Hello modders,
I am considering buying the Xperia Z because I really like the device and software.
However after my first hands-on experience, I have discovered that the c6603 model, sold by our carrier (T-Mobile CZ), seems to have LTE disabled. Although the service menu does show all the supported LTE bands, when I go to Settings-Mobile networks and try to change the enabled networks, only the following options are available:
- WCDMA only
- GSM only
- WCDMA/GSM mode
The question remains, how this is controlled and what can be done to enable the search and support for LTE networks.
Is this stored somewhere in some carrier settings file? Is it carrier specific, so that with some operators, this is enabled automatically, for others it's disabled? Can we change it somehow?
I am not feeling quite well about these options being disabled per-carrier.
Thanks.
I think flashing unbranded firmware will work for you.

I found in the UK, the option was missing on my UK Phones 4U firmware (350).
I thought it was some mods initially, but after applying the Greece FTF unbranded update (434), i got it back, even whilst running the same mods.
I flashed the UK 434 FTF update, and it's missing again, with the same mods.
These are only stock mods, status bar menu icons, reboot mod.
I will re flash the Greece Unbranded FTF and confirm if it's still missing, if it is not missing, for some reason, the UK unbranded FTF's (350 and 434) have it missing.
I flashed the .434 Nordic ftf and the LTE option is there. It wasn't on the original 3 rom.
I can't notice any difference at all that its a Nordic ftf and not a uk one, so I'll stick with this.
if LTE option is missing, it's only the option concealed but LTE is still there.
the culprit may be /vendor/overlay/com.android.phone-res.apk. try delete it after rooting.
otherwise, just ignore it and dial *#*#4636#*#* to enter what mode and you can see LTE options there.

This is controlled by your vendor's customisation of the ROM, I am guessing if they have removed LTE, then they do not support it. Therefore not sure why you would want to add it back, because you will not be able to use it. Because once your vendor supports LTE, I am certain they will send you out an update.
My phone has LTE, my provider has LTE. But I had no LTE on my phone, until I changed the plan I was on. And I couldn't force that on, because the vendor blocked that.
In addition as stated here any generic ROM should give you the phone/ROM in all it's glory, provided your vendor has LTE
Did you choose the correct setting in mobile network

I bought a Phones4U unbranded XZ a few days ago, with a T-Mob contract, and it DOES have the option, it had on when I was on 350 and it still has it now on 434. Perhaps it's related to the APN settings that the carrier sends you OTA? Obviously T-Mob is part of EE which has 4G so that could have done something.
I don't understand why your XZ doesn't have the settings though.
Are you sure you have the Z supporting LTE? There is a LTE and non LTE version on sale.

This was my next question, is it possible that the UK firmware reads the SIM card first and then 'knows' wether your current network is able to run LTE / 4G, if it's not, it only allows you to select the most appropriate setting, in my case GSM / WCDMA
Im on o2, not 4G, but the option was still selectable on my old Xperia V, and the Greece Unbranded Xperia Z FTF.
Have you tried a non 4G SIM / network in your phone to see if you get the option or not? Or could you...just to rule this out? If it is most likely APN related, then am not fussed, as soon as O2 has 4G, i should be able to utilize it
Cheers

Again only if your provider has locked this part out of the sim card, pretty crap if they did because this can be easily be controlled from within the network. Because when you scan it should show all networks around even ones you can't connect to, if not they have locked certain bands on the sim
Hello,
I just bought an LG G2 Verizon, software version VS9803AA and Android 5.0.2 from USA. I'm living in Romania, East Europe and using the phone on Vodafone. The phone gets full signal from the network, but no data. I've tried all settings, new APN and everything, but no succes. Still no data.
Near the signal bars appears an H symboll, but nothing under it and when I open Chrome, it tells me I am offline. Wireless works great.
Can anyone help me with a suggestion ?
Maybe if I root it and change the software, the problem will dissapear ?
The problem is that I don't know how to root and flash another ROM on it.
Thanks,
Mihai

You don't. CSC codes are specific to Samsung. What are you trying to do?
I did not know this. I need to connect my nexus to an American wifi network. I'll explain ... I have a camera that has an American firmware and then generates a wifi network that is not seen by the devices that are configured for the European Union. This European union because wifi networks have limitations. I have to be able to set up my nexus as if it were sold in america. samsung in changing the CSC in the nexus?
Then you'll need to exchange your current Nexus 6 for a US model since there is no CSC to change. However, I am surprised that you're not able to get the device to see the camera. I have an international S4 (GT-I9505) in my possession, and it has never had an issue with picking up WiFi here in the US. In fact I used it as a daily driver for a year until I got my Nexus 6.

Check advanced settings in wi-fi to set region if possible. Gear icon or 3 dot menu top right in wi-fi.
Let's hope he has the option to set a region, but exchanging the camera for a European model or his N6 for a US model is likely the only way he's going to resolve his issue. Either that or he needs to find a way to force the camera to use a particular channel. Based upon this his camera must be transmitting on a frequency Europe doesn't use.
Doesn't really make sense since WiFi standards are international aside from the channels that are allowed to be used on the respective frequencies.
European WiFi standards usually allow for more channels than their US counterparts (on 2.4Ghz only 1-11 in the US and sometimes also 12 and 13 in Europe). With 5Ghz there are some more complicated differences in the ranges of channels supported by either region/country.
The wifi hardware in your N6 should be impartial to and independent from the region you're using it in as a client (or: the channels you're trying to use). Those rules only apply for hosting a wifi network on your device itself (as in: a hotspot).
Are there other devices you can test your camera's wifi with? Because to the issue seems to be of a different nature.
Hey guys,
OK so here's the deal, I bought a Huawei p9 from offer up, the seller was up front and honest with me and told me that it would not get cell service with his carrier, he had tmobile, so I thought it was probably just user error, well I have a SIM with att and tmobile, and I tried with both, however it does get service and works but loses it in a matter of minutes, looks like when it tries to switch from 3g to lte and won't get it back again unless I go into mobile network settings and change from automatic to manual but then doesn't get any better than edge and it doesn't even work when I try to call out or data, the model number is Eva-l09 and I live in the east coast US, I did a little bit of research and found that this is a p9 from Taiwan, I've tried rebranding it from c636 to c432, no matter what Rom I installed custom or factory, same thing... Am I screwed? Or is there a way to enable the correct bands?
Hi.
My phone's model is SM-G780F. CSC was set to MID when I bought the device, but since it was taking so much to get OTA updates, I downloaded a Firmware and flashed it. My CSC changed to TUR and I can't see the 4g+ Icon (the one for 4.5g network) ever since. I don't know any other method to check If I'm connected to 4.5g network but I'm sure my carrier offers it where I live. Also, I noticed that there's a new opption to use 4.5g network in mobile network settings for me; so I tried to activate it and I saw no change in the situation.
I was thinking of changing CSC again (my phone is rooted), but I saw that after most of the available cscs, there's the word "single". Now, I'm not sure if it means that those countries have single-sim phones or it's safe to change. (E.G. BTU has the word single after it, but TUR doesn't).
I appreciate any help or suggestion. Thanks In advance
changing CSC just to get faster updates is not worth it. the countries who receive it first change all the time.
you will have to wait no more than 3 weeks longer than the first recipients unless there's an issue Samsung wants to address.
you can also see the downside in having the wrong frequency bands for where you are now.
switch back to your original CSC if you can, I've heard Sammy will be making it more difficult from now on (Android 11) to change, is it really worth the hassle ?
