Stock ROM & Cyanogenmod lost/cannot read the SD card - Motorola Droid 4

I've had 64 Gb SD card in my Droid 4 and it has worked quite well.
Then I installed CM12 to my phone and after that neither the stock ROM nor CM11/12 cannot find the aforementioned SD card anymore.
I've wiped both ROMs off and replaced them with my stock & CM11 backups. Doesn't work.
But the strangest thing is that Safestrap's File Manager can find that SD card and I can use it there just well (flash & copy files for example).
So what gives and how to get rid of that? Should I wipe my phone totally blank and start from the scratch again???
Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance everybody involved.

SD card likely has some corrupt files or file system, may need reformatting

OK, thanks!
Forgot to mention that if I place the same SD card to my Samsung Galaxy tablet, to my Android TV box or to my computer, it works without any problems. So that's strange indeed.

[Q] Sd card appears damaged and reboots phone

Recently i bought an 8gB class 10 sdhc card. Put it in my phone it was working fine. I copied all the files from my old card exacty as they were mounted the card again and the phone says the card is damaged and reboots all the time.
I put it in a friends samsung galaxy3. The card worked fine and all files were there. So obviously it has to do with my phone.
I'm using gingerdx the latest version with stock kernel.
I'd appreciate all the help you could give me guys. Thanks in advance.
try to format your sdcard (backup fist)
don't perform quick format..
still can't try format using phone..
then make a partition..
on developer forum we have a [guide] how to partitionning sd card
Nothing. I tried what you said I even reflashed my rom and worked it with no extra apps but phone still restarts when i try to move an app to the card.
I don't know if it's significant but i noticed that: I went in cwm and tried to mount sd-ext and I always got an error. Tried to format it again error.

do not perform any activity in cwm regarding sdcard it is not compatible, even format sd ext it will give you a result of damage sdcard for some rom or your current, resulting to reformat your sdcard, now backup all your files to pc,reformat your sdcard through your phone, unmount sdcard t then erased sdcard, then back your files...Hope it help...
Go to advanced in cwm and go to fix permissions. See what that does for you.

Guys thanks for all the replies. Nothing seems to be working though, phone keeps rebooting. Might just be a faulty sd card, but that would be the second in the row.

[Q] SafeStrap 3.0.x, multiple ROMs, and installing to SD card

Hello,
I've been patiently following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804665 for the past several months. Thanks to the selfless, hard work of Hashcode, dhacker, and also sylentprofet and jarveson (and apologies to anyone I haven't credited), the recent builds seem to have arrived at a level of functionality and stability that I'm thinking of trying to install my first custom ROM (I've already had SafeStrap 3.0.x installed for months).
My question is the following: I understand from the above thread and from Hashcode's blog that now the external SD card will be used as the default storage location. I was wondering what happens when an app is "installed to SD". From my previous experience on an original Motorola Droid, I know that "installing to SD" would move some files to a special directory on the SD card. I was wondering if this would cause collisions if the same app was installed under multiple ROM slots using SafeStrap.
Thank you for entertaining this newbie's question.
Actually the way I understand it is there is still the internal storage and external SD which are the same, but the internal storage gets partitioned separate from the rest of the storage so if you install an app to the SD card, I think it just goes in a regular folder. The system thinks the /system partition is in the regular storage for it but it actually is tricked to the internal storage.
I hope that makes sense.

Thank you very much for your response.
Is this regular folder on the external SD card? If so, does it mean that this regular folder will be shared by the ROMs in multiple slots if I have the same app installed under the ROM in multiple slots?
Thank you again.

If it's on the external SD then yes it is.
I had the same doubt when I recently started using ROMs on my Droid3. This thread helped me a lot.
I have lots of apps in my stock ROM that I've installed before rooting it. Do I have to install it all again on external SD? If yes, do I have to use a new flashed ROM or the stock ROM?

On minimoto I noticed it was using the exact same sd configuration as stock, perhaps because its stock based. On CM10 the external SD card is the default /sd card but you can still access the internal sd.
Regardless of how the sd card is configured you'd still have to reinstall apps when going to another ROM. I recommend using Titanium Backup then its quite simple to restore apps on another ROM. For SD data you could just manually copy and paste the folders from the internal to external SD.

Thanks! So, a separate partition on SD Card would be a waste of "space", since the ROM's doesn't share acess to this partition. I've only tried with CM10, I'm going to try with MavROM and Minimoto, but i'm almost sure that I'll end backing all up with Titanium.

Sort of kind of. Basically this would be useful if you want to share apps and their settings between the custom and Stock ROMs installed on your phone [may be odd on an app by app basis depending on a few things but a good number *should* work [I dont use external SD as it eats the battery and is MUCH slower than using the /data partition so haven't tested this], so following should be close if not 100% correct
You would in stock ROM set your apps2SD app up [I DO NOT advise you to use the sdcard function found in manage apps>app area instead you should be using an app like Link2SD that actually creates a partition on your external SD and formats it to EXT3 or EXT4 [suggest using EXT4]. This way things like widgets still work whereas they don't when using the built-in android function [this happens as android uses a folder on the SDCard [which is FAT32 by default] and file permissions needed to run Widgets and some code can't be copied as needed on to a FAT32 partition so by using an app that partitions [or the recovery can do this but you would still need an app to manage which apps are in this partion] the SDCard app instead actually formats part of the card to the EXT 3 or 4 File system so it is the same as the /data partion so Android can copy EVERYTHING and nothing is affected and broken.
So you open your SDCard app manager in Stock ROM and format the External SD [THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING RUN APPROPRIATE BACKUPS BEFORE PARTIONING [move them to a computer and back if you dont have enough internal storage to absorb your data]]
When that completes open the app again [usually needs a restart first to mount the new partition before continuing].
Once you get that done open the Manager app and select the apps to move to this new partition.
CUSTOM ROM: Now once that is done boot in to safestrap and either setup a Custom ROM or change to it's boot slot. Next boot in to Custom ROM and install the same SD Card App Manager you used in Stock.
Next, once you open it it should say it found a partition and ask if you want to use it if it doesn't and just lists the app view the settings in the Manager app and HAVE IT SETUP AN EXISTING PARTITION. DONT PARTITION YOUR SDCard AGAIN [or all your newly moved data will bite it].
Now restart and allow it to boot back in to the Custom ROM again. Once this happens all the apps you moved to the SDCard partition should magically appear and be usable.
SO LONG AS YOUR STOCK AND CUSTOM ROMs ARE THE SAME VERSIONS DONT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE ICS ON THE SAFE SIDE AND JELLYBEAN AS A CUSTOM ROM IT WILL MOST LIKELY CAUSE ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS

SD Card Will Not Mount

I have tried flashing several ROMs over the past few days. However, for some reason the SD card is no longer recognised. When i go to Settings/Storage "SD Card" is just greyed out and clicking "Mount SD Card" doesn't do anything... it can see the SD Card has 7.56GB of total space, but it doesn't appear to be usable.
As a result of the system not recognising the SD card, i cannot use the Camera or apps like Evernote, which insist on having an SD card present to launch.
I have tried:
- Flashing and reflashing different ROMs (SuperNexus, Slimbean, etc)
- Changing SD Card
- wiping cache, data, system, and reflashing
- Downloading mount apps from the Play store
Nothing works...
Would really appreciate help in fixing this.
Many thanks!

emmc brick i believe. this happened to me as well. the only fix is to have it serviced by samsung. try to see if you can download and run the emmc brick bug from the playstore.
Try to install a stock Rom (GB or JB, doesn't matter) with PC Odin.
This will give you a clearly defined state.
If you get error messages when installing PC Odin please post them here - then we can analyze it (and get hints if there's a chance you bricked your device).
If the installation is completed without problems and rebooting into the OS check your sd card again.
i think hes not talking about the internal storage.. infact the ext SD.. first flash a stock rom... then mount the SD card.. check if all works fine. if yes then move to CM rom.. this usually fixes the problem
i think u need to get another sdcard n check it out !

Quick update:
I installed a stock ROM using PC Odin, as suggested, and happily my SD card and internal memory showed up just fine. I then reflashed CWM and installed Supernexus 2.0 and everything has worked fine ever since. Thanks again for all your help!!!
Glad to hear it.
I have a similar issue.
Ever since this one morning when I turned my phone on (it was shut down) it won't read the internal sd card on my phone. I have tried restarting but it still doesn't work. When I open music it says 'SD card not mounted' and when I open photos it says 'Storage Space Full' and it closes the app. However, my storage is nowhere near full and this has never happened up until now. PLEASE HELP

Nook HD 10.2.1 Can't access external SD

Hello,
It's my first post here.
I have a Nook HD rooted with 10.2.1. We I rooted the Nook, I made an external copy to the PC of the stock rom.
All was OK, until I tried to upgrade to cmw 11.
It gave me an Status 7 error and was imposible to upgrade.
Then I went back to the 10.2.1, but now the external SD Card is not mounted. I can't format it from the Recovery menu.
I can't read it from the Nook. I tried 3 different SD cards, but always the same.
The recovery CMW is 6.0.3.6.
When I try to format the SD card from it, it says "Error mounting /external_SD!"
When I enter the Nook in normal mode, the SD Card can not be activated. It detects the SD Card, bau can't do anything.
¿Any idea or help?
Thx!!
UPDATE: I have boot into normal mode, downloaded de Recovery CWM-5 (Recovery 6.0.4.6), and installed it from the internal memory.
After that, I succeeded on installing the CM11-M6, but still the same issue.
Can't activate/access/mount/format the SD Card, from the Android "Activate card" or from the recovery menu "Format" or "mount".
I also formatted it with SDFormatter, but nothing changes.
The SD card it's ok, as I can write/read from the PC.
I have 3 of them: Samsung, Sandisk and Trascend. None of them is recognized, and before I had no problems with them and CM 10.1
Well,
I think is finished!
I had a problem with Google apps, and installed them again, but I had at the internal memory the 4.3 GApps, and I didn't take care of the version!.
Instead of the correct GApps for the 4.4, I installed the previous one.
After installing them, I always have now "unfortunately, Android Keyboard (Aosp) Has Stopped"
So I have no keyboard!!!!
As I can't use the external SD (It doesn't work), I tried to download from the CM11 Nook the correct GApps version, but I have not keyboard to write the internet address!!! I can not indeed write the wifi password!
I have then tried to install ADB, but I can not see the Nook under "adb devices".
I'm in the point of sending the nook to the recycled bin!
Any idea of an easy solution?
Many thanks!
Dang lots of trouble. I would suggest just sticking with CM 10.2.1 for now.

Hello,
That's what I want, to go back to 10.2.1.
But the Recovery 6.0.4.6 dos not permit to install the 10.2.1, only 11.
I would like to download to the internal memory the Recovery 4 (6.0.3.6), but as I don't have keyboard (wrong GApps installed), can't write the web address. And the external SD card doesn't work too.
The only solution I see is ADB, but when I plug the Nook HD to the PC, nothing happens. There is no change in the Management console of Administration Devices....
Don't know really what to do.!

Did you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item 1a there? If you did, what are the results?
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using XDA Premium HD app
Thank you for your response.
I did what you said, making a bootable CWM as your 1a tip, but nothing happens.
The external SD card is like death.
The Nook boots on the normal CM11 mode, and never on the Card Boot mode.
But I have made some new advancement:
I realized that I can connect the Nook and the computer through Bluetooth!
So I sent to the Nook the correct GApps for the CM11, and reboot in recovery mode, installed it from the internal memory, and now I have keyboard again.
The situation now: I have the CM11-M6 installed, Recovery 6.0.4.6 and GApps gapps-kk-20140105.
But, the external SD card doesn't work. The Nook detects it, but can not activate it.
If I enter the Recovery mode, you can´t mount or format the SD card.
I have saved at the PC the Nook Stock Backup I made before rooting the Nook.
If I copy that folder to the internal memory and make a Restore BackUp, do you think that the SD card problem should be fixed?
May be the SD card problem is related to the Nook partitions. I read something about that but don't remember where. But don't really now if the Restore Stock is going to fix the partitions.
I don't want to make another step without consulting you!
Thanks!

I doubt it is a partition problem causing the SD read issue. But getting back to stock may help. It could just be a glitch with CM11. You might also try cleaning the SD contacts and blowing out the slot with air.

I tried three different cards from 3 brands. They all work perfectly at the computer, but not on the Nook!
I've not tried to blow air in the slot... i'll do it
I think, if that doesn't work, i'll try to go to the Stock Backup.
Thx
How can I restore the saved backup?
I have copied the backup folder yo the internal memory. After I boot into recovery. I choose Restore, but directly it says that there is no file.
Is there any special way of restoring the stock backup without using the sd card?

Yes it has to be put in a special place for CWM to see it. CM and CWM use different spots for the backups. CM uses /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup and CWM uses /data/media/clockworkmod/backup. Notice the extra 0 folder. You will have to use your root file manager to be able to put the backup in the correct location so CWM can find it.

I have no success!
As I'm using CWM, I have to place the files at /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/.
I have some questions (I've tried all possibilities, but without success)
1. I have a saved backup folder (named with the date I made the backup) with .tar archives, etc. Do I have to place at the clockworkmod/backup the .tar files directly or the backup saved folder?
2. I can't find the /data/media/clockworkmod/backup folder.
I have a clockworkmod folder at /storage/sdcard0/clockworkmod. It seems to be the same as /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod.
That clockworkmod folder is at the sdcard folder, with other folder as Alarms, Android, DCIM, etc...
At the folder level where are folders like bootdata, cache, mnt, root, etc, there is a folder named "data", but is empty, and can't write inside it.
Is it that one where I have to place /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/??
3. Can't find a folder called "media".
4. I have installed your file NookHD-CWM-6036-for-internal-memory-rev2-(03-08-14).zip as Recovery.
But I have read at your tips, that for restoring the Stock, you have to use NookHD-emmc-stock-recovery-rev0-(07.21.13). I have done nothing with that file... Is for your information, in case I'm doing something wrong.
5. As information also, when I enter the Recovery mode (6.0.3.6), there is always a message "Warning: No file_contexts".
6. Another thing!! I think that the Backup I'm trying to Restore was made with a previous CWM... that one for the CM10.1 (may be it was CWM-Recovery-2).
Could it be the problem?
Thanks again!

In order to access the /data folder you have to be using a root file manager (try root browser lite from Play Store). That is why /data looks empty without one.
Do not use the clockwork folder in /sdcard. It must be the one in /data/media.
That stock recovery zip is for restoring stock recovery. You only flash that if you want internal CWM replaced with stock recovery.
And under backup should be the folder that was created when you backed up. Usually a date. The .tar files are inside that.
Don't worry about the last two items.

Wow, I'm sooooo noob!!
I had already installed ES3 file explorer, and didn't find the Root User mode. Now it's activated and really can see the data/media folder.
I'm moving now the backup folder to the media folder and in some minutes I post the results (I see that It's very slow and the backup is 2gb size, and will take at least 30minutes to transfer)
Many thanks!!!
Welllll....:crying::crying::crying::crying:
I have successfully restored the Nook to the Stock Rom.
But the problem with the SD Card persists.
I bought a new SD Card, and now I have 4 different brands and sizes cards.
And with all of them I have the same issue: Damaged card. You have to format it. And after formatting, always "Damaged card"...
:crying::crying::crying:
I think is a hardware problem. Something is broken...
Thank you anyway for your help!!!

SD Card Not Detected?!?! HELP!

Hey,
So I was running Exodus Android 6.0 5/12 nightly, everything was fine until I decided to flash XOSP unofficial by Vatsal.
I made a nandroid backup in TWRP (2.8.7.0) and flashed it. Didnt really like it so restored the backup and it said it failed.
So I thought it was no big deal and decided to clean flash exodus. It took a really long time to factory reset and when I booted, my external SD was not recognized. Flashed different roms, nothing. But when I reboot and then go into twrp, the sd card is recognized and I can access the files on my laptop; however, once I try to copy and paste them on a different folder it fails.
So I tried formatting it; didnt work. It still shows nothing.
Any suggestions? Thanks
I had a similar problem, in my case the sd card was broken. I was able to see files on it with a card reader but I can´t copy, paste or delete something.
I have a similar problem :s
I guess I gotta buy a new one then...sad..
