So I recently got a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4. As we know, it's unlocked 100% without any special root methods or entering in codes into the dial pad. With that being said, I popped in an LTE Straight Talk SIM card, transferred my old number to the new SIM and configured the APN and for a long while it was working fine with no issues. Then out of the blue, I had no data. It absolutely quit without warning. I go to check the APN settings I had previously and they were gone. I had redone everything and saved the settings. However, when I go back out a menu, no Straight Talk APN. I did the same thing again....and once again no APN settings. Just the default T-Mobile LTE APN.
So I'm at a loss. It was working fine previously and now I cannot set APN settings. I have reset the phone more than once (reluctantly). Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated since I'm paying those bastards $45 and some change a month for service I cannot get. Also as a note, I can receive and send text messages with no problem. Calling number results in "you are not registered on a network," but I know the fix for that.

Sounds like your phone got black listed. Did you buy it from Tmobile? If you bought it from some one else it was either a stolen phone or the previous own stopped paying for it.

I had bought the phone from a local gas station owner (who had 2 other T-Mobile phones with him). It was working while he showed me the phone (he had gotten several text message and Facebook updates). He then reset it. I bought a Straight Talk SIM kit and went to work. I had working data until the next day. I had played around with some more internal settings, like updating the touch sensitivity and more. Everything was working until I refreshed the Wi-Fi antennae. Don't think that would have anything to do with the 4G/LTE radios or regular antennas. Overall, it was working, so I don't see how it could just magically stop.

If he bought the phone on a lease from T-MOBILE and never fully paid it off T-Mobile would black list it. Or if he sold you a lost\stolen phone.
You can contact T-Mobile or check the IMEI on one of those checker sights to see if it has been blacklisted.

You can check to see if you're blacklisted by visiting the T-Mobile website and using their IMEI checker. If you're blacklisted you would not be able to place calls. I will attach sample AT&T APN that works for me. I'm on Cricket and not StraightTalk but it may work for you.
For all who helped out on this post, THANK YOU! I figured what my issue was. SIM card is fine and the data settings work as long I don't configure the MCC & MNC settings. Changing the MNC from 260 to 410 is what caused my saved APN to disappear. Not sure why that happens, but if any of you have an idea of why, direct me to the thread that explains this or if you know, quote this reply. And another thing, I am able to send texts and make calls, but due to the location I was in, texts sent at half the speed of smell and making a call was impossible due the phone claiming I was "not on a registered network" even though ST is a network (duh). I have no service issues on my Note 3 N900A when I that. Anyone think it could be because AT&T's device antennas differ from that of a T-Mobile Note 4? Personally, I don't think they would since they are both GSM and operate on the same bands (I would think), even though the Note 4 has "newer" technology. Not really worried about data, texts or calls since I have Wi-Fi in said location.
Again, thanks to those that helped me out. And, again, if anyone has any ideas to the information said above, by all means give your say or direct me to where there is substantial info.

Anyone else on AT&T unable to get LTE? The APN settings that auto-downloaded are correct according to AT&T's documentation, but I'm only getting H+.
Your GPRS could be disconnected. I'd you use app advanced signal status you can look at settings Beyer to see if your set up correctly

Can't get LTE to work
I need some help. I have the new, unlocked, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and I can't get on the AT&T LTE network as well. Here are the steps I have taken:
The Setup
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that is on the LTE network with no problem
My AT&T account had a Lumia 820 device tied to my account (and old device of mine) and it worked fine for LTE on all of my future pones, including my S4
I purchased an unlocked D5803 Z3c from Handtec
My Activate Attempt
Went to the AT&T store to pick up a new nano sim card
I gave my new (Sony) IMEI number to the AT&T rep (stupid move, clearly) and they loaded it under my account
With the new sim, my Z3c could place calls and send/receive text messages
Data would not work
My Resolution Steps
I looked up APN settings online and tried several different variations
The HSPA+ Cingular APN settings worked, but left me without LTE service
I could not get the mobile.att.net APN and LTE settings to work
Reading Android Central and XDA, I discovered that others had this issue as well
Using forum advice, I called AT&T
The AT&T rep did confirm that my Sony IMEI number was registering as a "2G" phone, which is why I did not get LTE access
I put one of my extra LTE device IMEI numbers on my account
My phone still won't connect to the LTE network
I notice that even though they registered an LTE phone (and they confirmed it came up LTE), my AT&T account page shows an old flip phone silhouette
The rep noted that there was nothing else they can do...so I basically have to deal with it
I'm posting on XDA to leverage the wisdom of this crowd
I remain confident that this will get resolved, yet frustrated at the same time
I'm at a loss and wonder if I have to activate this nano sim in another supporting device or the like. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help.
No clue, but AT&T tech support confirmed that my IMEI is registered and my previous two devices were all LTE devices. I have no idea what's going on either.

Are you having the same issue? Do you see the cartoon sketch of a flip phone in your account as well?
What you have to do is give them the imei of an LTE capable phone. It absolutely does not matter that you will not actually be using that phone.
If you already have an LTE phone, just switch your SIM to your z3 when it arrives. It is absolutely unnecessary to call AT&T with your new IMEI. Anything AT&T tells you to the contrary is flat out wrong.
Issue resolved!
Bottom line...do not give these clowns your Xperia IMEI number.
When they entered the IMEI number it flipped my data plan from a grandfathered unlimited plan to a pay-per-use plan with no LTE (why they couldn't figures this out last night, it beats me). He was talking about my wife's plan and her unlimited data. I then noted "mine is unlimited too" and then said it wasn't. You can only imagine how things went from there.
The unrecognized IMEI number automatically switched me off of my plan.
They have me on a temporary 3GB plan, as the support rep couldn't get me back on the unlimited plan. They have to send the change to their back office team and it will take a week to get it back.
My phone now has the 4G icon versus H+.

Nope, it actually still shows my previous LTE-capable phone.
I actually also initially had this issue ; I was sitting in the AT&T &T store on the phone with tech support until the sales rep realized my phone wasn't showing up in the system as an LTE device. He input a bogus LTE IMEI for me, after which I restarted my phone. It's been working for me since then
Whelp, I guess I'll go to the AT&T store again later, then.
So everything that is claiming to have LTE ----> Do you have a 4G icon on your phone or LTE? I am in US, went to ATT store ---they entered an imei of a Samsung Galaxy S5 and now it shows 4G. If you go into mobile networks preferred network mode it says 4G preferred/wcdma/gsm. I am assuming this is just due to the UK software version not being the same as US...

IMEI problem rectified, they reverted it to my previous phone's IMEI. Now displaying 4G. Sweeeeeetness.
It's just silly that AT&Ts LTE is tied to the IMEI in their system and not simply having an LTE capable phone.
I ported a line to use with my Z3c and gave them the IMEI of an AT&T HTC One so that LTE would work, but they would only send me a micro sim because according to the IMEI that's the sim I need. Tried to tell them I need a nano sim but the gal on the phone said she couldn't send one, I'd have to go to a store pick one up.
If you are going from an LTE phone that uses a nano SIM card to the Sony Xperia Z3 compact, it is not necessary to contact AT&T. You will need to manually add the APN settings on your Sony Xperia Z3 compact. Here is the path to get to the APN settings..
Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > press + to add a new APN
Enter in the following settings listed below
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
Save the changes you made, select the APN you just created and reboot the phone. Everything should be working from there.

So I do have the 4g icon in my status bar. Does this mean that LTE is working fine?
The only reason I am asking is because on the MY ATT page I do only see the silhouette of a flip phone.
Edit: My phone automatically downloaded internet and MMS settings when I first booted it up. Is this what others are doing?

Yes, you are getting LTE on your phone
LTE = 4G in Europe
4G = H+ in Europe
3G
etc
If you do a speed test, you will see that you are getting LTE speeds on your phone
Problem here too. I just went in to get a nano sim. The guy hooked up my number from a note 2. Does not show data. He said I needed to put in my IMEI number from the box. I didn't from recommendations on here. The problem is that I didnt have a rebutle sp? Because I really don't know how it works. He said if my note 2 was lte, it should work. I don't know what the heck to do

I would try again, maybe try to get a different service rep. The IMEI from an AT&T Note 2 should work.
My new xperia z3 compact (D5803) receives text messages and calls very intermittently. I'm on AT&T US, stock firmware.
- If I am using the phone (or have very recently used the phone, say within 30 seconds) then most calls and text messages come through fine (though not always).
- If I leave the phone alone for more than a few minutes, text messages or calls almost never come through - though occasionally I get a text message many hours after it was sent.
- If someone leaves a voicemail (because I didn't answer the phone, because the phone didn't ring!), I don't get a notification until I open the voicemail app and manually sync.
- I can make a phone call or send a text message with no problems (texts arrive immediately).
I don't have any of these problems when I put my SIM back into my HTC One M8.
I've tried the following to fix this:
- I went to the AT&T store and had them give me a new nano SIM. It made no difference; same issues.
- I factory reset my phone. It made no difference; same issues.
- I updated to the US version of the firmware. It made no difference; same issues.
- I put the SIM into a second, until that point unused, xperia z3. It made no difference; same issues.
Given that I have exactly the same issues after changing both the SIM and the phone, I can only think it must be some kind of compatibility issue with using AT&T on this phone - except I see that many other users of this forum are on AT&T and aren't having the same problems.
I do notice that I don't have the best signal in my house (usually 1-2 bars) so I'm wondering if maybe that could be related? As I say though, my HTC One works fine, as do all of the other AT&T phones in my house.
I think my next step will be to go and buy a T-Mobile prepaid SIM, just to see if that works, but does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? All in all this is getting pretty frustrating, because I LOVE the phone, but right now it's unusable for me.
I would suggest reading this thread below. It should give you some tips on how to resolve your issue.

Thank you for trying to help!
I probably should have added that link as one of the things I had already tried. To be specific, my APN settings are:
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http: //mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
---------------------------------
I'm beginning to think it *must* be a signal issue, even though all the other phones in my house are fine. I have the "Advanced Signal Status" app installed, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for to see if there's anything fishy
Don't forget to download the Internet and MMS settings for your phone. You go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Internet settings and download settings for Internet and MMS
Thanks again for the suggestions.
Sadly, it's still not working. I'm pretty sure I had already downloaded those settings, but I did it again anyway (seems you can just download over and over). I even reset the phone after that just to be sure, but the problem persists.
I have the same issue and I live in Sweden....
Im having the same issues. I restart the device and then come all the missed calls and missed txt messages.. i really hope theres a easy fix to this soon.
So, I switched my SIM from AT&T to T-Mobile and it fixed my issues. It seems that the either the poor AT&T reception in my house or some other strange incompatibility between the phone and AT&T was the problem.
Either way there's obviously some kind of issue with this phone - my guess is that when connectivity with the network is poor, the phone maybe times-out and gives up. Perhaps Sony will fix this with a firmware update at some point. In the mean time I would suggest that other folks having this issue maybe go to a part of town where they know reception is very good and see if the problems happen there.
So after 2 days of of testing, a new nano sim card and several phone calls to ATT I found temporary fix. Change your Network mode to WCDMA (preffered)/GSM. While this wont give you LTE it will prevent the missed phone calls and txt messages and at least you have HSPA+ . The problem is the LTE connection to ATT. The connection either drops and or prevents phone calls /texts from coming through the lower HSPA + or 2g bands... Not sure why this is. Hoping that when the Sony Store models start shipping on Nov 2nd they have the same issue and Sony will send out an update to fix the connection issue.
I'm on the US ATT network with the same problem as well. After trouble shooting I have come to agree with you. I'm really hoping Sony sends out an update.
Is this a problem on Tmobile USA with Z3 Compact also?
same issues!
I have two Z3 compacts (US version purchased direct from Sony) on my family plan with the same issues of not receiving SMS or calls when connected to wi-fi, and occasionally cannot receive SMS or calls when not connected to wi-fi either. I am always able to send texts and calls, and MMS/LTE always work (I am usually e-mailed when my phone isn't working and I get that right away). Whenever the phones aren't receiving calls, it rings once and goes to voicemail, which tips us off that the phones aren't working.
If you are also getting this problem, please get on AT&T chat and ask them to escalate/forward to their manager. We've got to get their attention. Additionally, I was told that "Okay so since the phone is unlocked our service is not guaranteed to work at full capacity, also I can not submit a case due to it is not an at&t phone. "
Yep - Same problem over here. AT&T in Northeast USA.
AT&T tried everything they could (resettings connection, etc) but again also said that it isn't guaranteed to work because it's an unlocked device.
I'm doing a system repair on the phone from the sony desktop application. Hoping it will fix, but not hopeful. Now sony says they want to have my phone in for testing. :/
I'm hoping they realize soon that this is a bug, and not a case of a broken phone.
Same problem here on cricket (AT&T) in Houston. Just disabled LTE. We'll see if that fixes it like it did for the other guy. Sony needs to get on this.

Not working MMS
Yep I have tried all of the above solutions and nothing is working. Changed APN multiple times, factory reset, switched SIM, called att, went into the store.
Like above, ATT came to the conclusion that unlocked phones are sometimes not compatible with their service and there's only so much trouble shooting they can do.
I have ATT in san francisco, and it's looking like I'm going to return the Xperia z3c. Shame it's a great phone besides the MMS issue.

Confirmed that this worked on my wife's z3c. She wont miss the LTE anyway since she is always near wifi and when she isn't 3G is definitely good enough. We streamed spotify for an hour today on country roads on her phone on 3G. No issues.

sorry to hear you guys are having such issues...
My z3 compact on att works flawlessly. I swapped my nano sim from a iphone 6 i was trying out straight into this.
Att did mention something about some settings they had to flip in the back end when i switched over to a nano sim from the sim i was using in my lg g3. If you guys loose all hope have a buddy with an iphone on att and use his imei and let att configure the sim for that phone then swap the sim into the z3...could work because i know it does for me
Same issues here. I have a new D5803 on Straight Talk (AT&T). I live in the mid Atlantic. It seems I don't receive calls/texts when I have 2 bars or less. Not sure about LTE vs. HSPA. I always have Wifi on so not sure if turning it off would make a difference. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE! Hopefully a firmware update will save us. Has anyone contacted Sony?

Thanks for the info, but this isn't a viable solution! I shouldn't have to keep Wifi off to ensure I receive my calls/texts!
As stated in the title/subject line, I have an unlocked AT+T Note 3 that I'm using with Metro PCS. I'm using the SIM card which was previously in my Metro PCS Galaxy S3.
Now, 1 week after I began utilizing this phone I moved across town and for the past month I've assumed that was in a 'NON Metro' area... rather there just wasn't a good signal here. However.... it turns out my neighbor has Metro and low & behold his service is excellent! I was shocked at how he's always got a 4G signal when I'm not even able to connect to the internet AT ALL. And boy have I tried everything! When I initially moved in, my ISP dropped the ball and failed to transfer my internet service.... it took almost 2 weeks for them to connect a coaxial from the BOTTOM of the telephone pole to the coaxial from my house... anyway, I was so desperate to get online I tried absolutely everything.... FAIL! Although.... on ONE occasion I did have a website page load halfway then 'timeout'.
I've manually and automatically input APN settings. The apn settings are the T-Mobile APN settings that automatically generated when sim was inserted (I dunno if that is even the correct term to describe APN settings...).
What am I missing? Or not doing? Should I be changing anything via hidden menu? This is making me insane..... any advice would be truly appreciated!
Thanks ..... in advance from the Crazy Nurse....

Was your S3 an unlocked model like your Note 3 or was it the metropcs version, metro had the white one which is a cdma/lte and later on they had the black/blue which is gsm/lte .
On your note 3 did your data work before you moved? Do you currently have talk and regular text working?
If data was working before you moved try going to your settings, connections, more networks, mobile networks and have both mobile data and data roaming checked on next go to network operators, click on default setup and then click on automatic if its on automatic already then click on manual, it should take a couple of minutes after that choose T-Mobile and after all that turn off and then back on. Hopefully that's all you have to do because the next step would be call customer service and have your line refreshed and then do the steps again.
@440bro 's apn is one of the other apn's you can also tryout.
yup...
Yeah... I don't have that line 'extraid'...
Neighbors S3 is an unlocked AT&T as well.... she gets exceptional service...
I got pretty good data before I moved... and yes, talk & text work... however.... If my phone isn't in just the right spot it'll roll directly to voicemail without ringing... and on rare occasions it'll say 'no mobile networks' when I'm texting..... If I wave the phone around in the air it'll send the text. (if anyone saw me flapping my arms around they'd probably call to have me committed, lol)...
Also, when i go in under the operator settings as you suggested, I'm unable to change it to manual... rather, when i select 'manual' it states that it's searching but after a few minutes... after nothing happens it'll put itself back to 'automatic' ...
Thank you very much for your help...hope I can figure it out !

Have you tired a Hard Rest?
I had a unlocked At&t note 2 that started doing the same as your note 3 but I was flashing different rom's and mistakenly flashed a different modem and it went down hill from there, eventually I sold it for parts.
I recently got an employee line from metro and nothing was working, no talk/text/data but I contact customer service and asked them to refreshed my line from there end and a couple of hours later I was up and going. That might help you too.
The very last thing you can do is to try a new sim card which costs $10.00+ tax. Depending on the store you go to they might want to charge you to activate it but just let them know that you can activated for free by calling customer service.
So I put my SIM in from my g3 (which was T-Mobile and getting great lte) and phone was working fine then for some reason reverts to 4g and no lte. Check my account online and my phones imei shows up as an old blackberry which downgrades my plan automatically.
I can stick SIM back in old phone get lte, switch again and it reverts. Called and customer service can't seem to help. Anyone else with T-Mobile note on att having issues ?
I have been having a different issue. Every couple of days, I would loose all T network connection as the APN "ATT Phone" would become unselected for a as of yet undetermined reason. If I select it, everything works just fine (include LTE) till it unselects itself a day or two later. I cannot determine the cause.
If I look on my account it shown some "dumb" phone whereas I used to have a Note 2. I do get LTE. I use these APN setting, which seem to show up as default when I press the reset on the APN menu:
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410

APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4

See if these are the setting your SIM selects. If not, you can try unselecting "ATT Phone", change it and select it after saving. But perhaps you need a new SIM which T should be happy to give (or maybe it is a couple of $) you if you visit a store and say you lost your phone and the sim.
Thanks for the input. Yes I have tried deleting apn settings and adding the ones like you listed. It didn't help. Get 4g but no lte. Went to att they pretty much just said too bad it's not our problem cause it's a T-Mobile phone.
So far no issues running it in Manhattan for a couple weeks - I can't tell the difference between this, my OnePlus One, and my old AT&T Note 3 - all using the same AT&T SIM.
I did get some slow data speeds while in Williamsburg last weekend, but my wife's AT&T iPhone 6 had the same issues so I don't think it was a phone issue.

Oh okay. I don't know why mine is having this issue. Have used several T-Mobile phones on att without issue
Sorry to say it appears the Note 4 is polled or "phones home" and immediately shows it's non-approved IMEI. When I change the SIM from my T-Mobile Note 4 to my ATT Note 2 the MyATT page almost instantly changes from BlackBerry7100 to "Smartphone". Not sure what to do because it'll surely cost my LTE speed.
I've been using a T-Mobile Note 4 on AT&T since the week it launched without these problems. I have a feeling I'm jinxing myself or that it's only a matter of time before it does happen. What's weird to me is that on the AT&T page it shows I still have my old LG G3.
Are you guys using custom ROMS or Kernels or anything? I have pretty much rooted from day one and froze a bunch of stuff and immediately got rid of the Carrier IQ.
Well let me chime in. I never got lte on the note 4 until I got tired of slower speeds haha. I had an iPhone so I went to at$t to get another sim card but brought my s3 so they wouldn't know of the note 4. Problem I think was putting it straight into the note 4 and not settle into the s3 first and get all required info. So I was without LTE for a while until I decided to try again for it. So I called at$t and told them I was not getting LTE on my phone 5s so they changed the imei # to the one for the 5s. Still didn't get any lte so I went to an at$t store when they said to pick up a new sim. I used the iPhone probably for about an hour and got LTE. So from that point I put the nano sim into the note 4 and now I've been getting lte for over two weeks and great signal coverage. On my account it says I'm using a dumb phone but when I go into upgrade options it says I'm on an iPhone 5s.

And yes I'm using a nano sim not the usual micro sim
So on Monday ATT decided to deactivate my sim card because they believe my phone is incompatible with their network now. All my bars went to 0 with an x on it and I couldn't do anything on the phone. I went to an ATT store, got them to give me a new activated sim and I put it in my phone and all my bars came back.
My phone says VoLTE again too by the signal bar area. I also tested a text and it went through fine. I received a phone call and while it works fine, it sounds like junk now. Like it is no longer actually using VoLTE like it always has. My phone doesnt seem to have any data however, when it should have LTE just fine. I also cannot make any calls, even though it says VoLTE on the phone, it just re-routes to ATT customer service instead of going through with the call.
When I go into the network area in settings it says no IP address either. I looked and my APN is set to nxtgenphone, Preferred Network Type selected on LTE. Before ATT deactivated my sim card LTE has always worked fine, and LTE should still work fine. It is only the 3G network being shut down. Also given the fact I have the VoLTE icon the phone is apparently connecting somewhat to an LTE network.
So does anyone know how to fix settings to get data working again? Is it just an APN that needs to change? What is everyone else doing with the network shutdown and has anyone else had issues like this?
I had the exact same issue, your issue is in fact APN settings I'm having them as well. Try deleting your current APN and putting in a new one. Once I got a new sim my APN reset I could call but no data and no text. I have half of the APN information in place and have data and basic text, but once I input the MMS port the APN data disappears still trying to figure that out. Not sure if anything I typed is helpful but at least you know your not alone with a mi11 on ATT and it can work

Thanks for the reply. I tried deleting the MMS port and also the proxy just now and data didnt come back. I will try searching around for more APN info for how phones are supposed to connect now and see if I can find anything.
It looks like from what I could find that it is due to an IMEI whitelist ATT has, blocking data connection on any device not in their whitelist. The solution seems to be to root the phone and change your IMEI to a whitelisted model.
While my phone is rooted my IMEI is not cloned I definitely would not share my IMEI with ATT. When I got my sim card yesterday I had the attendant activate but I did not provide my phone so he did not get the IMEI from my phone. If you got a sim and they input your IMEI that could be a problem possibly. Just a suggestion to try and get a sim activated at a store without your phone.
I had also heard that most ATT MVNOs were not having the device whitelist forced on them yet, so I went and tried 2 different ones yesterday. Both failed to get the phone working on their network with their sims.
Before I went through the hassle of rooting (and most likely losing payments) I tried ATT again anyway. I used their online customer service chat and the first person I chatted with said he could help me with the lte data problem and the IMEI issue. I was skeptical, but he actually did fix it all up. He just needed my sim ICCID and my phones IMEI1 and he submitted the info to their backend people for adding to their system. It took almost an hour and a half for it to get added, but overall it was a pretty painless process and I was browing the web most of the time while waiting in chat. I now have LTE data again, VoLTE again, and "5G" too (which ATT 5G is really just one or two more features than normal LTE and is no faster in speed and uses LTE data bands). I attached a screenshot showing the data and VoLTE working on my phone. The first signal is ATT, the second is TMobile (which has always worked and never had an issue, their 3G network shutdown is going on for another 4-5 months)

Happy you are back up and running and I'm glad that you found someone at ATT to do the fairly easy work of getting your IMEI cleared. Lots of people have been worried about devices not working on ATT because of this whitelist issue glad to see there are workarounds just wish ATT didn't make it so convoluted.
