Anyone out there installed Novacom on any of these Windows 10 preview builds? I've tried running the JAR file that's out there, but I run into an error:

I've been running it on Windows 10 with no issue at all. Are you using the 64 bit versions of novacom and any drivers as well?
I got the same thing for W8.1, had to find novacom 64 bit installer, not use the universal one. I'll see about diggin up a link.
EDIT: Found it: http://www.reverendkyle.com/index.php/articles/161-universal-novacom-driver-installer-fixed
Do no use the universal one as the download files have been removed from webos's servers so it can't download/install anything using the universal installer.
All I get from URL above is a load of Chines characters in notepad file! - How do I get the zip please?
Edit: Answer very simple - install WinRAR!!

I have novacom installed on my Windows 7 Titan 32 bits. I am ready to forward file to anybody who wants to also send me something. I spent alot of time and money to get it so I cannot give for free. just a token and you will have the file fowarded to you.

You're an IDIOT... If I was a mod I'd ban your ass for such a pathetic statement. Your don't belong on XDA
Hi, I've encountered the same problem, but i've saved a file several year before which works perfectly : novacom-win-64.tgz. I've search to find some place to download it, and i found it today on media fire (unfortunately, I've not the rights to post an url). I've downloaded it and it's the exact same file (a tar.gz). Once uncompressed, you have a .msi, and when you double-click on it, there in nothing to say it's ok, but when you launch tptoolbix, it works

Well it is actually more windows related problem I believe. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version and I can't get DDMS to work. The 0.5sec popup says that it can't find the JAVA. It is searching for it in C:/Program Files/Java, mine is/was installed in Program Files (x86). I reinstalled JAVA installing it to program files, but the problem hasn't fixed. Any ideas? Is there a way to run ddms under 64 bit operating system?

I just edited the .bat file to explicitly state where I wanted it to find java.exe.
It makes some very specific assumptions about where to find it.
I'm not at my home machine right now, but as I recall there was a second .bat file that looks for java.exe. I changed that one. Seems to be sourced by several different .bat files in the tools folder.
Will try to do that on my own, but if you find some time and be kind enough to post the instructions, I'd be really happy
Will report back if I manage to do something about it.
Hi Just wanna share the info regarding unlocking WP7, sorry if this posted in XDA already, but in case somebody want to try this unlock tools... here it is..
Microsoft allows developers to unlock their device for sideloading their applications for testing purposes using their marketplace account. Creating a marketplace account requires yearly charges of 99 USD which is difficult for new testing developers to pay for. A groups of developers have released a new Windows Phone 7 unlocker tool which provides the ability for anyone to unlock a WP7 device without a Marketplace developer account. The developers claim that this tool is completely safe and reversible for the phone and the app even allows you to relock the phone. Just download the exe,run it when your phone is connected. Thats it..Your phone unlocked. Here is the download links,

Congrats to the developers of this tool, the chevron group consisting of Long Zheng, Rafael Rivera and Chris Walsh. Follow their blog for more details on this project.

when i run the program and go through the check list and hit unlock i get a message that says the program has stopped workin help
1. Did u download and install the thing from the link to ms?
if no then that might be part of ur problem
2. Do u have Skype or any other app like that running on ur machine?
If so then u need to full close out of those apps. Make sure there process's are not still active. U can do so through task manager.
3. In Zune when ur phone connects does it say ur name or guest?
If guest then u need to hit the button below the phone image to set up ur phone to be the main user.
4. Did u sign into Zune?
If no then sign in. I was signed in when it worked for me.
I hope that helps troubleshoot ur problem.
Also try re downloading the unlocked app. If it was zip/rar it might of unpacked incorrectly.
1. Yes, I verified that because I can access the editor and Application Deployment (by searching for it..)
2. Only MSN, but that was switched off.
3. Will have to check, but I think it's the name of the phone.
4. Yes, I tried when signed in and out.
I will try booting in safe mode, maybe that helps.
I'll get back to you.
I have Win 7 64 bit as well and got all the same errors.
I then tried it on a Win 7 32 bit machine, with all the same settings, and no problems at all. Unlocked within a second.
Thankyou.

seems that this tools dev has been temp stopped
tryed to dl the cerv from the link bellow

however its just goes to a 404 error page now
managed to dl the tool before the shutdown but seems to require the cert to work on a x64 machine
any ideas?
post from chervon bellow
Code:
ChevronWP7 Dev Team: “Earlier today, we were contacted by Brandon Watson, Director of Developer Experience for Windows Phone 7, to discuss the ChevronWP7 unlocking tool.
Through this discussion, we established a mutual understanding of our intent to enable homebrew opportunities and to open the Windows Phone 7 platform for broader access to developers and users.
To pursue these goals with Microsoft’s support, Brandon Watson has agreed to engage in further discussions with us about officially facilitating homebrew development on WP7. To fast-track discussions, we are discontinuing the unlocking tool effective immediately.”
Hope you already downloaded the software (^_^)
You will find it here.

lol you beat me to it. make sure you extract the cert file from the zip before you attach to an email. just select the cert wait for it to download then select it again when you see the little shield next to the attachment. Then it will ask if you want to install the cert. do it and your set as far as that part of the process is concerned.
If your having issues with it in win7 x64 try changing the exe's compatibility to xp sp2 or sp3. i think i set mine to sp3 on my win7 x64 machine.
also make sure when your phone is sync to unlock your phone so its sitting at the start menu.
it worked! thanks montecristoffon for uploading of the cert file and and hackmimic for the guide.
Cheers!

Dear jpneves1978,
an xap file is an xap file before and after download. If you do not have any spec program assosiated to xap file type like "Tom XAP Installer" than Windows by default will recognise it as some kind of compressed file pack, what it realy is.
If you have winzip or some other zip program installed it might assosiate the program's icon and link it to every kind of compressed file pack.
My suggesstin for you to try download and install the programs directly onto your phone, if you are usiong a kind of ROM what has xap install feature in IE9.

When you download the above files they are saved as zip and not xap.
What i did is upload them onto an ftp server and from their changed the file extension from zip to xap then downloaded them onto my computer.
quite a pain but that worked for me.

Thanks A Lot Dude For Bringing All Together.
It really is scary when I read posts on topics as basic as file types and file type association and what to do with xap files or zipped files and messing around with tweaking phones.
If XAP's are not associated with an installer like Tom's XAP Installer then right click the xap file, select Open With..., go to Choose Default Program, select Tom's XAP installer or whichever installer you use, and confirm the Always Use box is checked...click OK.
Thanks for the XAP post magdan83!

Is there a way to use Nokia Navigation without internet connection?
SOLVED:
Looks like since the latest update to v2.0 you can use it fully offline.
That's correct Rosetti but you may need to go online to search a destination and can then navigate offline. Better than HTC Locations isn't it? And FREE!

install direct new version from Store (dont use old XAP files)... just change store to Nokia and install Nokia apps... if app close during start, change phone name from HTC to Nokia Lumia in registry. dont forget uninstall old version first from phone
- go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ Platform \ DeviceTargetingInfo
MODeviceName: HTC Surround change to Lumia 800
- OemName: HTC change to NOKIA
latest version:
Nokia Maps v2.5.0.0: http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=c0109837-574e-469b-a08b-dca621bde3ca
Nokia Drive v3.1.0.3206: http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=b5382dbf-0923-4195-b68b-f93b7ee76fe9
Nokia Transit v3.3.411.0: http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=5e41c972-de66-47f0-95bf-06eb115b3e48
unfortunately Creative Studio in Store now is only for WP8
Locations is now available for HTC WP7 devices for offline navigation. You can use Wi-Fi to download maps for many (most) regions around the world. You must connect to a charger to download.
The description is "Find your way with directions or voice guidance. You can download maps to your phone for offline use, or search and browse online maps when you're connected."
Current version is Locations_v2.1.0.0.xap
Rename files to:
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.001
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.002
ie take .7z from end of filename

Yes, extra with a compression program WinRar, Winzip, 7-zip
Then deploy using a .xap deployer such as XAPDeploy

Connect USB, fire up Zune, then deployer and load xap
Having a free GPS app like the one in Lumia phones, was my only reason to have an unlocked ROM. Now i think i'll keep my actual ROM (XBmod-Yuki). Congrats to HTC for having this app available to all.

Depends I what you want.
I prefer to have an .xap that I can load if/when I change to a different rom. I don't always want all .xap apps installed right away.
Downloading a file this each time from the marketplace would take considerable time.
That's why I went to the effort of making it available
is many tools to download xap from marketplace to PC....
i also suggest one...
It works, just need to decompress to get the .xap.

why not install xap file with XAPDeployX? XAP install via IE is only for HTC devices with DFT custom ROM....
did your phone unlocked (Chevron or interop)? did you have .net Framework 4 and WP SDK installed on PC?
did your Zune running and synced with phone when try run wAppStore on PC?
P.S.
my advice: use Nokia Drive 2.0 if you can use this app.... is much better than Locations....

Long story short...I have a legit Windows Phone Developer account and I want to unlock my Lumia 920. I know the unlock tool is part of the WP8 SDK, but the only problem is that the SDK requires Windows 8 64-bit. As of now, the only Windows 8 install I have is on my Samsung tablet, so I can't install it on there since its not 64-bit.
Is there a way to just get the registration tool without installing the 1.5+GB SDK? Or is there a way to do it from Windows 7?

I think the zip doesn't work but not because it needs a zune connected phone. Instead the issue is that the tool is probably missing some common files or something like that. It asks to connect the phone to the computer and points at a potential problem with the windows phone passthrough service (although there is no problem because the device can be browsed perfectly fine).
I wish I could at least install a XAP to my WP8 devce on Windows 7...Is THAT even possable ?

Sorry for bumping this old post, but I had been having issues registering/unlocking my Windows Phone 7 Lumia 710 recently to develop.
Using Windows 7 SDKs, the registration tool with it just wasn't working - I was getting the good old "Error logging into the App Hub. Please check your Windows Live ID and password and try again" message.
Even contacting Windows Dev Support couldn't resolve this - apparently its a known issue theyre working on just now!
Long story short, I found this thread - and tried the zip file you linked and it worked! I was able to register my phone through that file instead of the registration tool that came with the SDK. So thank you very much!
Worked for me too. Thanks a bunch !!
