Any chance some enterprising dev could get this running on our nexus 7's

That would be cool if they could, but I'm guessing this is deeply integrated into Touch wiz.

AOKP got this request recently.
Seems a Cornerstone build would be the only way out...which is unlikely.
I'm fully aware this would probably be quite difficult to port, and likely quite time consuming.
Having said that, I also want this. It makes so much more sense on a 7 inch tablet then a 5 inch whatever.
This works with a handful of Google Apps, no other apps. I don't see the point.

Running 2 apps at the same time. Seems like a great idea to me. It supports a limited amount of apps, but unlike Galaxy Note 10.1, you could probably hack in other apps to work.

Yes, but the Galaxy Note 2 supports all apps in multi-window mode...
This would be *nice* to have but I don't know how much easier it would be then to just multitasking between 2 apps now and having the apps full screen. I can see some of the benefits like watching a youtube video while chatting on Google Talk. There are some good alternatives such as popup video players and notepads that overlay on top of current app and typically are resizable and movable.
While it makes sense this would be better on a 7" then a 5"... it really would be best on a 10". 7" barely gives me enough breathing room for 1 app. Plus most of the "compatible apps" are simple things like a calculator and notes
Well it seems VERY useful to me.
It's better than popup apps in my opinion - more app options.
Overscreen browser is a great alternative for now
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
No, it's not.
This allows multiple apps to run side by side, Overskreen is just the browser. Also, it's not even compatible with Jelly Bean, so no one who owns a Nexus 7 can use it.

No, as I said, handful of specific Google apps. Read up on it. Will the list grow? Maybe? I'd have to guess it is a sdk used to support the function, is it worth app dev time to do it and possibly maintain multiple versions of their app?
more then google apps
Not just google apps can do this on the samsung note 10.1 .
samsng snote and lecture app
browser
vidoe player
picture gallery
polaris office
Photo shop (special note version)
I think there a few others that are on the samsung web app store. Samsung sbe adding apps to this.
Now for the bubble burst. The reason they work on the galaxy note is the new QUAD Core cpu and 2 GB Very fast ram .. samsung tried to release a less ram/power version of the 10.1 note with a higer res display. they backed the display down and increased the cpu//ram. this is also to support the WACOM S PEN..
I have been reading alot about the device because mine will be here Monday. So the above if from my reading and research. I can update you more mid next week.. I do not see a need for split windows on a 7 inch screen .. get the overscreen browser and try it.. JUST Does not work for productive work...
Hope this help make it more understandable... too bad samsung did not make the n7 . i give up because of the screen issues sent two of them back and will NOT order a 3rd...
Dude. Overskreen DOES NOT work on Jelly Bean. And it is just one app, vs an entire suite of Google Apps.
Also there's no need for window management.
Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor too, just less RAM - which isn't even a problem, it still can handle side by side apps.
And you're telling some weird stuff here. We are talking about Galaxy Note 2, which allows more apps, and works better. AND it works on a 5 inch screen, so it'll be awesome on a seven inch.
So yeah, please don't come back with your 'research' to tell us that you think that this feature is unnecessary.
i hope sincerely as a dev can make a mod for port this feature in future beacause it's very usefull even if work only with google apps it's better ,
anyone know if a moded youtube apps existing for play a video on background because i search since 3 month but not find ?
thx
I don't think there is one, sadly. Android doesn't support true multitasking
While i would love to have or port this it simply isnt possible, it requires a lot of changing to the frameworks and it would be hard to decompile all of samsungs sources and extract it.

Stock android not, but there are a few roms with cornerstone, i think mainly on 10 inch tablets.
Web os did this kinda on a dual core wish android would absorb that multitasking feature right now running multiple apps kinda is a hit and miss

System/app Dump?
Has anyone a copy of the 4.2 system apps? I would love to install some like the new keyboard, and I'm sure many others would love it too!
Quick Settings = FINALLY.
This is the one thing I could never live without from AOKP. I might actually not even need a custom ROM this time. I really like their implementation of it too.
I'm looking forward to the Swype like keyboard. I really like Swype, let's see if Google can do better

@knolly I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've always wanted that on a phone's stock ROM. After playing around with custom ROMs on my S2, I'm ready to just jump on a Nexus and stay on whatever Google decides to churn out right then and there instead of having to wait for custom ROMs to come just to avoid the poop that Samsung/AT&T likes to put on the builds.
Looks great, it looks like its consolidating jelly bean with all the features a big OS update needs
I wish for something like the leeks said where you could remove the OEM overlay (sense, touchwiz)

I doubt the "stock" browser will even be included in the build. I believe the only reason they kept it around on the Galaxy Nexus is because it shipped with it and they didn't want to deal with people losing their browser.

To be honest im not really thrilled about this. Chrome seams a little prmature to me. A lot of neat features sure but I regularly experience much better peformance on on the old stock android browser in actual browsing experience. Sure some benchmarks say its better but real world performance has been anything but. Just my 2cents.

It totally depends on the hardware it is running on. I can barely use Chrome (and dont) because of my limited hardware. A phone with 2gb ram and a quad core should make for a very buttery experience.

It's not to any extent unusable or "slow" but my native browser just rips! Idk maybe its psychological... the biggest place that ive noticed it is not in page renders but in actual usability of the page. What I mean is that they seam to render in about the same time=fast but on chrome I'm unable to selct links and there is usually some delay before I can scroll around or zoom where as on the native browser I can be halfway through a page load and already selcting another link...

Yep...Chrome isn't nearly as fast as it was on PC..
Controversies,controversies everywhere :what:
I mostly prefer the stock browser myself, still use flash quite a bit (though i guess that it will probably be somewhat if not entirely broken on 4.2/Nexus 4).
But for other tasks i've preferred Chrome, especially with the syncing of pages and the fact it seems to handle pages much better than the stock browser did, especially in regards to forum attachements, download sites, etc.

Hi
I am new to android. I switched from iphone 5 to moto x. I got the fone yesterday and having some serious problems. Scrolling especially in facebook is very laggy. Browser is ok but facebook app is terrible. Its not the same case in iphone 5 where its buttery smooth. So my doubt is, is the fb app lags same on all android phones or just the moto x? even i will get ocassional hiccups on twitter. Is it normal. Can it be optimized by tweaking any settings? I love the phone but this thing sucks
Thanks
can't help you. i get no lag in scrolling in fb.

I generally don't care about facebook notifications because I'm not a terribly active user. Most notifications are a few friends that post way more than they should and I could care less so I turn them off. Because i dont need the notifications, I generally always greenified it.

Trolling?
Sent from my XT1058 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Welcome to android. Scrolling in third party apps is rarely smooth on android. My iPhone 5 is flawless in that regard. It's because on android, app developers don't have to follow strict standards like on ios. Tweaking will not really help with the Facebook app. Source: tweaking both android and ios for 2 years.
You will notice quite a few android users will flat out deny any lag in an effort to defend their purchase decision. Just something I've noticed.

I had tried stream app for facebook and its nice scrolling is a bit smooth and some features are missing. I will try the beta app as suggested.

What exactly were you expecting when you went from iOS to Android?
Lag, stutter and crashes are a daily occurance on Android. Fanboys will deny it online, but if you've ever used an iPhone it's instantly obvious.

only lag or stutter i get with the moto x is in the chive app and xda developers app. These are app related not android related. Moto x has been publicized as one of the best android experience to date for partially these reasons. Apple will always be better though. One phone built for one software. Even though the latest release for apple really screwed up how well older devices worked.

And yet you are here
I just came from an iPhone 5 and am using the Nexus 5 now (soon to be owner of the Moto X), and I can tell you that I have had no lags on my Nexus 5 at all. Just because app developers dont code their apps properly, and manufacturers insist on slapping their phones with bloated skins, doesn't mean the OS itself sucks.
And the fact that android stands up to iOS in smoothness, when iOS is NOWHERE close to Android in terms of functionality is a testament to Google and their OS.
And no I am not a fanboy by any stretch of imagination. I regularly switch between iOS and android phones (albeit only the top end ones) and have an iPad mini as my tablet right now (which I got after flipping my nexus 10)

Not sure what phones you are using, but I haven't had these issues since my sgs2... Since then, it was only minimal lag and stutter... Until the moto x. I have had 1 rrb since I owned this phone (2 months) when it lags and stutters it is so limited and or imperceptible that I don't notice.
I'm no fanboy, I've used iOS extensively and it is a very very smooth experience, yes, more so than on Android, but that is to be expected considering their iron grip on the entire system.
What's funny is the way Apple has designed their os to hide the existence of app and system crashes. There is a setting in iOS that is a debugging/usage statistic report that gets sent to apple, if you have it enabled and then read the log you will see what's going on behind the scenes.
One of my employees and I were talking about this, he has an iPhone 5 and I asked him if his phone ever crashes or if apps force close, he said never. I then asked him if you ever are in an app and it just randomly goes back to the home screen, he said yes, and it was a common occurrence. He thought it was him pushing a button or something... Anyways, I explained that this was the apps force closing, it's just that Apple has cleverly disguised it, unlike Android which tells you point blank.
But I digress... I asked him to go to this setting and see if it was enabled, it was and so we looked at the bug report. There were over 2 dozen app crashes, Facebook and bluealien (reddit) were the main culprits, but also safari and a few others. All completely unknown to him because if the sly way Apple coded their os.
What my point is, is that even iOS is not perfect, and I found that there were more crashes on any iPhone 5 vs even my sgs3 and exponentially more than my moto x... Apple just hides it very very well.
Tldr: Apple hides the existence of os/app crashes, they happen more than anyone knows.

Sent an e-mail a month ago. No response. Maybe I will call too. I wholly agree that there should not be hoop jumping for native 1440 or even 1080. Ridiculous!
I agree with you but when the Nexus went 2k, i knew that it only meant that we would get it in time. Its just googles way of saying they are in control and they say when users get that option. For what its worth, even on 1080, you tube stops 1/4 of the way and stops loading for a while. Ive always hated this about youtube and has forced me to go Vevo for music videos.
For me, bandwidth on AT&T here in Honolulu sucks so bad that streaming YouTube above 720p is impossible (in fact I frequently see buffering at 720p in some areas of town) so I really could care less BUT I do think that those of you who have better bandwidth or want to use the device to its fullest potential on WiFi should have the option. If I'm on WiFi chances are I have my Note Pro or Macbook Pro with me so I'll reach for those devices instead and watch at 1080p or higher.
Wasn't long ago that HD quality video was new to YouTube so surely in time things will continue to improve.

I don't know you guys but I fixed it for my friends' Note 4 and LG G3, also for my Galaxy Tab S and my S5 and all of them had the issue for the last month and the instructions once worked stopped working about 1 month ago.
Follow the instructions on this link and it should work.
Forget about the Root part (Steps 2 & 3), I did it skipping all the root related stuff, and it has worked on ALL the devices that I've been trying for the past month and hadn't worked. All of them now have the 1440p option except the S5 that it gets up to 1080p.
The only one so far that didn't work was a Sony Xperia Z3, but I just sold it yesterday anyway.

Really? I don't know what to tell you, like I mentioned before, it worked for all the Samsung devices I tried plus the LG G3.
Only thing I forgot to mention was that after step 4, where it tells you to go to Play Store to update, before going to the store I opened YouTube first and entered the credentials then I went to the store and followed the rest of the instructions exactly as they appear.
Try it again and see if that helps.
Just an update.
Today I read that there was a new Youtube version, the one that finally has Material Design, so I went ahead and downloaded from here , installed it and I still have the 1440p option in my Galaxy Tab S and 1080p in my Galaxy S5. I'm waiting for my Note 4 to arrive today, first think I will do after setting it up is to do this procedure, if it works I'll let you all know, but I don't doubt it will work as I did the same to my friend's T-Mobile Note 4 and it worked as the first try as I have mentioned already.

Awesome. Super easy fix. Did it today. Just change build prop android version to 5.0 and then Uninstalled the youtube app. Then installed youtube version 6.0 (material themed) and BAM. 1440p option is there. I'm rooted on Dynamic Cat 3.0

Just made the switch to the browser that comes with the tablet, realized that chrome on the tablet is very laggy for what ever reason. Anyone experience this?
Yes.
Chrome is laggy on this hardware, I'm using samsung-stock-browser.
Try these tips to make Chrome Browser quite a bit faster on Android...

This made it faster on my computer, not faster on my tablet.
Still laggy on my tablet. Surprisingly, I'm totally fine with the stock browser. It performs way better than Chrome.
Will definitely try the above linked page to see if it helps. I use stock browser for web sites I need to keep cookies/pw's for logging into, Firefox in private mode through a VPN for everything else. Google is too darned nosy for my tastes. Remember if you log into GMail etc even through a VPN Google has your IP address so don't use Google for a search engine or they still know who you are.
Yes i use Chrome + Chrome samsung support library

Chrome was really slow on Touchwiz.
Switched to CM12 and now its is super smooth and fast.
No more scrolling lag or stutter

Really?!
Either Samsung have pushed an update since when I switched to (first CM11 and now) CM12.
Or it is due to the different processors the Tx05s have compared to the Tx00 wifi-only versions.
I heard those LTE versions somehow have more optimization or horsepower than the wifi versions...
Chrome runs pretty fast for me. There's a few hiccups here an there but not too bug a deal. If you have a low-end tablet it may not even be good at running Chrome. Try Chrome Beta and tell us if it goes any faster. I use that at love it. What do you mean by laggy? Is it sloe to respond to touches or load pages? That may be your internet connection slowng Chrome down

Maybe try installing this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.deviceextras.samsung&hl=en
I'm not even really sure what it does but the reviews claim it speed things up.

In my opinion who have good performance whit chrome have Tab s T800(snapdragon) and who have bad performance have T805 (exynos). Because is impossible that everyone have different performance whit the same tablet.

It's not impossible for different people to have different performance with the same tablet. It happens often and not only with browers. I like Chrome because it's easy to sync my bookmarks which I have hundreds with my desktop, laptop and phone. But it is laggy on my tablet so I often use Dolphin instead which runs very smoothly and supports flash.
True on that one. Chrome can run differently depending on how may apps you have, how many are open, WiFi connection, and evenbbatyery life. Chrin cab be a bit laggy at times if there's multiple apps open or your low on space.

I do not believe. In my notes 3 Chrome runs very well always. My Tab s (T805) chrome, always turns bad, even with the tablet just formatted.
if someone is good and other is bad, there must be something underneath, or have different yardstick, or there is some version of the tablet that runs better, and others in which turns worse.
i use chrome simply because i have all my bookmarks and history from browsing on pc..
