Ok so in the spirit of sharing... I'll share how I solved this for the benefit of other noobies...
I downloaded Samsung Tag writer onto your galaxy phone and followed the instructions - just tap the dead cradle on the phone and the appropriate data will be written onto the cradle's NFC tag.

CD writing blues!

lately my cd-rw/dvd rom (combo- matshita ujda770) has been giving me some problems.
it reads CDs and DVDs perfectly but it has stopped burning discs.
it makes ticking noises when i try to write a disc. it has stopped recognising blank rewritable discs although it recognises blank CDs.
i have tried reducing burn speeds till 4x but still had no luck.
is there any software which can tell me where the problem lies.
nero gives a "track following error"
NTI gives "hardware error"
can any softeare tell me if the lens is ok (i've tried cleaning that too)
please help me! (or just tell me how much does a new dvd-writer costs for a laptop acer aspire 5500z)
thanks a lot!

Step 4: Restart the computer
If problem persists, remove and re-install your CD Writing software(Nero), if issue is still not resolved, then there can be an issue with the optical drive itself. How old is the drive ?
sorry friend,i did all what u said but still i have the same problem.
my drive is 1 and a half year old.
but i still have doubts because it can read perfectly
btw thanks for ur help.
dumped that cd drive and got a new sony g520a dvd-writer for my laptop today for us$75.
All right mate, even i wuz about to advise you to get the lens changed
even thou laptop optical drives are more expesive then desktop ones
i doubt putting too much efford into fixing one would pay off
there are two lenses on a cd/dvd writer one for reading and one for writing. Just a fact i wanted to share
i think i must have screwed up the "writing" part of the writer!
by the way thanks rohit, rudegar and scousemartin for helping me.
one more thing.
now when i burn dvds using my new writer (using nero)
the buffer level (not on dvd drive but on hard disk) is always less than half utilised whereas the buffer on dvd drive is at 100%
this burner should write a dvd at max 8x but i get a max of about 6x.
is it any problem?
my luck is so screwed up.
today the new sony g520a dvd writer stopped recognizing dvds and is not burning dvds too. although cd read/write is fine.
its been just 3 months and this happened again.
i always write on sony media.
Damn, you have no luck
Reminds me of the days when i decided to stop burning discs altogether, buy 4 Seagate 500Gb hard drives and get them in a raid5 array... I had the same kind of issues you have : readers breaking too often, beloved discs unreadable, important data lost...
Hard drives are way safer (get a raid NAS), and cheaper per Go, and faster... i will never burn discs again i swear.
RAID can b a good option, but it's not always feasible to buy 4 500 GBs of HDDs , that too for a laptop. It's not that its gotta b your hardware (DVD writer) on fault. Can b operating system issue as well.
Uninstall and reinstall your burner application(Sonic, Nero), if you are usin' one. Try system restore, if this thing started lately.
Trust me, small simple things work wonders sometimes. Moreover it's NOT RECOGNIZING issue, check and reinstall the drivers, as well.
Good luck, mate.

Anyone knows how to change Notes SAVE PATH ??

Hi,
I already did my research on this topic using the search function provided.
However, I can't get anyone giving the correct solution.
So,
Did anyone here knows how to change Notes SAVE PATH ??
I tried to change the registry in :
(HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Notes) from \Internal Storage into \Internal Storage\Notes
HOWEVER,
everytime I saved the new registry, and DO a soft reset, it always revert back to the original condition, and sometimes, the registry value is "\Internal Storage\Notes" BUT when I save new notes, it was saved in the root of internal storage (as usual).
Please help me to find solution for this one
Thanks so much guys...

omg....please accept my sincere appologies for my ignorance and for my feeble attempt to help in resolving such an important issue.
i solemnly promise to never, never jump and try to help without:
- reading the question (you so gracefully reedited after my answer) at least 5 times.
- searching the forum for similar problems.
- researching and learning all the wm manuals.
sarcasm aside, did you tried "my method"?
please note (pun intended) that even if i did not "get" yr question (but i did!), i certainly didn't deserve the slap. usually here we answer with a "thank you but this was not what i meant". try this next time...
and for the record, i do have all my notes in internal storage\notes as i said and with the simple method i described. no registry editing needed.
i also checked the registry and it is still showing "internal storage" and not "internal storage\notes". the path is not reflected in the registry and i do not have an explanation for this...
and here is the proof that i did understand yr question and that my simple, no registry editing, "just use the program settings" method works. look at the path and at first note....
sir... I'm sorry beforehand if I sound rude to you... and if it did, please know that I never meant to
Ok, back to the topic, I did actually tried your simple method, by going to 'Notes', and Options, Save to: 'Internal Storage'... but this eventually gets the 'Notes' to save its new files at the root directory of 'Internal Storage'.
How could you get that kind of setting to save your notes at 'Internal Storage\Notes' instead ?
Could you direct me and give me a guidance on how to direct newly saved notes files to 'Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes' ?
Once again, I would like to say thank you for your willingness to try solve this matter with me
When you're in notes theres a folder drop down list on the top left, you can add a notes folder there and it will put it in Internal Storage, I got mine in Internal Storage\Notes as well but can't get it working trying Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes

glad i am not the only one....that's the way to do it, nothing to add.
maybe is not recognizing more than 2 levels..."Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes" is a 3 levels path.
to the OP: glad to help when i can!
FOR KIEN & KUKURIKU :
Thanks so much for the kind explanation you guys have given.
Eventhough I can't save notes in 3 level path, but at least Im happy enough to save in internal storage\notes.
Thank you guys

[Q] S Memo / S Note tempates

Two questions for the Galaxy Note experts:
1.) Where are the S Note & S Memo templates stored?
2.) Is it possible to create own S Memo and S Note templates?
I've looked and there doesn't seem to be any obvious (and easy) way of adding new templates - which seems a really strange oversight by Samsung.
Hopefully someone will be able to say how it can be done simply and I'm a pillock!
it looks like...

Creating a S-Note template form a PDF file
When I imported pdf files, I just started Snotes, the app, not a new note, and under the menu picked import. Choose the pdf file but if you get the box that asks what to use to open it, ignore it, click on the screen with your pdf, make sure the file is selected and choose done up at the top. you'll magically go back to the snote screen with your pdf document showing. In order to save it, you'll have to at least make a mark and then can erase it so the save option will be available. When it's the blank you'd like to save to use each time, you can name it and save it as it is. Just be careful that whenever you open it to start a new blank, you need to rename the changed document so it doesn't overwrite your blank form. If it's helpful, when you're ready to save the 'template' open the menu and choose set as shortcut. That will give you the fresh template on your home screen. I put several running notes on my home screen that way and a blank 'template' - an Snote the way I like it set up. Just be careful not to overwrite it as I've accidently done a few times. Now I have extra blank copies.
On the Note 10.1 Samsung added the "import-template-function" with the firmware-update 4.1.1
Maybe they'll update the N7000 too.

How can I open a samsung note file on my laptop?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (model: SM-N950F) since may 2018.
The screen failed recently just after updating Bixby. But I don't think it's due to this update.
May be an electrical problem? But before sending back my Note 8 to fix the screen I have to backup my datas.
With an almost all green screen and a password to enter as to unlock the phone, it's quite an impossible mission.
But I just did the job today and succeeded to backup my datas on my pc laptop with the Smart Switch Samsung Software.
I have professional "Samsung Notes" and it's urgent for me to find them back for work.
The problem is how to open the sdoc.snmm file in the directory SAMSUNGNOTE (from the backup stored on my laptop).
I renamed the file as a zip one and opened it with Winzip which can now display 3 files as following:
SDOC.BK, SMARTSWITCHBACKUP.JSON, et SSMDUMMYVALUE.XML.
SDOC.BK is the bigger one. Almost 97% of the total 3 files percentage.
I think it's this file which contains all Samsung Notes I did with my S pen!
But how to manage that file? I red on other forums that we can read the Samsung notes files as PDF files from a Windows PC.
But the files would have to be first exported in PDF format from the Note 8. And as I can not read anything on my screen Note 8,
I can do nothing from the Note 8.
Then, is it possible to open that SDOC.BK with a specific software? Or do I have to change the extension BK into PDF?
If you could help me to find a solution it would be great!
Regards,
Eric (from Paris!)
If you ever figure a way to do this please share.

It's a little late and I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter anymore by now, but I'm pretty sure those are proprietary formats. Renaming them won't make it able to read it. I think the only way is to export them from the Notes app, unfortunately.
Have you tried Samsung Notes app for Windows? Maybe that helps...

Hello
I tried to get the samsung notes application but the download link failed. I chatted with US samsung support. They say that this application is no more available since january 2018 as they have bugs to fix.
8 months later it still being "off"!! It must be very big bugs! If someone succeeded to manage his samsung notes with a Windows 10 PC it would be kind to share a copy of it. Please note that the french samsung support was not aware of this problem as the software download link was "broken". They added this was a Microsoft problem as the samsung note software is distributed by and for Microsoft corporation. By the way, the customer is invited to find a solution with Microsoft not with Samsung! What about the samsung engineers working to fix the soft? I do not understand this way to give... "no solution". It's not serious for a such big Company like Samsung! Thanks for your attention. Regards Eric
I installed Notes for Windows on my new Notebook 9 Pro in April this year. Synchronization ensures I can open and work on the Notes both on the Note 8 and the Notebook 9 Pro....
Could be that there is no windows Notes app for non-samsung or non-pen equipped pcs.
If any of you are still wondering, use this link filext.com/file-extension/SDOC . upload your .sdoc file, from that click the text.dat one at the very end then copy and paste to a word document or something. You will need to edit it but at least you can still keep everything you typed. For pictures it is the one with .JPG . Sometimes the text is saved as JPG, in this case press the one that says .spd which is like another file, then click the very first one (think it ends with .page) then you can copy the text which they will show below. Hope this helps since it helped me recover quite a couple of .sdoc notes.
This link, from my Android phone, works to push the Samsung Notes app to my PC Windows account:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/samsung-notes/9nblggh43vhv
Trying to install the app from the store directly from the non-Samsung PC had failed.
The Samsung Notes Windows 10 app can sync your notes between your phone and your PC.
I hope that helps.

I know it's super late, but I was just having this problem. I found an older version and it is working great so far: https://www.xda-developers.com/get-samsung-notes-windows-10-app/
