[Q] Rooting the Note 4 w/o tripping Knox - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I stumbled across this video and I wondered if any of the experts here have tried this method to root the Note 4? It's not an easy method but I would be willing to do it if it doesn't trip Knox.

Thanks in advance!

huh. doesn't everyone use cf auto root to root their device? And no. There is no method to root the note 4 without tripping Knox.

Sorry but anyone who is here and has been has already rooted. The guy who posted that seems to only work on note 3 without kernel patch. Definitely not note 4

Other than having Samsung try to deny a warranty claim I have no need for it.

Why go to Samsung when TMOBILE offers the warranty for them and they could care less.

In my opinion, T-Mobile service is really bad so I don't use them. Coverage where I live is abysmal. I guess I could always activate a prepaid SIM for warranty service but as it stands now I would likely use Samsung for warranty service.

Short answer, no.
We all know t mobile don't check for root so why bother yourself with this
g3 soon to be NOTE 4
its all these IBone converts that are flocking to this phone..
They're so used to Apple telling them what they can and can not do, that they dont yet know how to handle the freedom of Android/T-Mobile..
i'm just going to assume you're directing that at someone else. i've been using using android for quite some time. there was no knox when i rooted my phone before.
i don't buy insurance from tmobile so they won't be the one that's handling my warranty issues if something happens.
Like the OP, I refuse to waste money on Carrier insurance, and my previous phones did not have Knox. So it remains an important issue if you are relying on Samsung warranty. It's clear that existing root will trip Knox. My question is - what is the chance that there will be a root that does not trip knox in the future. Is it worth waiting or is knox considered to be bulletproof?
Edit: and no, I never owned an iPhone, and all my Androids have been rooted so far.
From what I read nobody has been able to break the Knox that Samsung share this knowledge with Google.
If the phone died and no fault of your own, Samsung will not take it back even if Knox is tripped?
Im not expert but I think that Samsung has to have a way to remove " tripped Knox flag " or any phone with hardware failure and Knox flag tripped would have no resale value if, for example, usb port is replaced.

it IS too early to ask; the phone has been out for a few days, so if you're paranoid about rooting because of tripping Knox, you'll have to just wait around and see, or develop an exploit and share it with the rest of the folks who feel they need it..
I've given back a Note 2 and a Note 3, KNOX wasn't out for Note 2 but it was rooted. Note 3 had a counter of like 12, as stated above, T-Mobile doesn't check.

This couldn't be any more true. I've rooted every phone I've had with them that could be rooted and never once had them turn me down for an exchange or replacement unit. Hell I think I replaced my old one s maybe seven or eight times over the years I had it and I even stopped flashing it back to stock and just sent it back. Not like it's super hard for them to clean it all back up to stock.
I'm certain that when you return a phone to most vendors, they just throw it into the "defect" pile, and those phones either gets wiped and re-imaged, or they send them to some 3rd party who buys them cheap and does that on their own.
after spending many years as a director of sales for a consumer electronics company, I know how expensive it is to try and inspect/repair returns, so I cant imagine that Samsung/t mobile/att and who ever else even bothers to look at them.
If you think about the thousands of phones coming back as returns every day, handling them any more than absolutely necessary is a major losing proposition for these companies, and they only care about profit. When you return your rooted/knoxed/bricked phone, they NEVER repair it, you just get a new or rebuilt one sent out to you.
But hey, if you want to worry about tripping Knox or sending in a rooted phone, and that you will be in trouble/charged/punished for that, then you just go ahead and keep thinking that!:cyclops::cyclops:

[Q] Will returning Galaxy S6 back to stock trip Knox?

Hello I have just rooted my phone using the Ping Pong method but I am wondering if going back to stock will trip Knox since the only method I know of to do this is using Odin. I appreciate any information.

Pretty sure factory reset in settings can fix this.
Glad to hear that flashing back to stock using Odin won't trip Knox. And no Factory Reset doesn't take away root access as I tried that.
No. I've done it myself.
I've also used Smart Switch to go back to stock.

That's not true, any modification to the phone voids the warranty. I think burning the efues and permanently making Samsung pay unusable counts as a modification. Let's not fool ourselves, once tmobile realizes that knox tripped = no S pay they will check. I replaced my phone because of a loose home button after tripping knox but I was upfront about tripping it. The manager said he appreciated my honesty but they don't check it at the moment, but he as the manager knowing it was tripped could refuse the swap. You might be asking yourself why would you tell them that? Well I don't like taking advantage of a system until after it has f***** with me, tmobile has yet to do that.

Galaxy S6 Active- Any Root Methods?

Is there ever gonna be a root for ATT S6 active? These ads are driving me insane!
I'm considering returning the phone if no root is ever going to come back even though I love it.. I still have my LG g3 but at least its rooted and ad free! I've tried to search the internet and haven't really found any concrete word on it.
The word is all over XDA. You're phone has a locked bootloader and can't be rooted. Thank AT&T, not Samsung.
BTW, per the sitcky, questions shouldn't be posted in the General section.
Edit: It looks like a mod has moved it to the correct location.
You might get it, but you probably won't. I'm on an at&t note 4 and....yeah.
you can't root it, but package disabler pro will do what you need to disable any bloatware. The only downside (beside that bogus fact that you can't get root on your own device, which is pissing me off as I write this), is you can't tether with an unlimited plan, whereas if you could root you could.
Yeah, that and you can't get adaway, or viper audio, or customize many things. I am pretty disappointed that there's no root, but I love the phone itself so I am just going to keep hoping.
When can we look forward to a root for the galaxy s6 active?

Galaxy Note 5 rooting

Good evening folks,
I'm thinking about purchasing a Galaxy Note 5 but I want to make sure that I'll be able to root the phone without creating issues. I currently owned a rooted Galaxy Note 4 that I absolutely love because I was able to get rid of all the bloatware. I will like to be able to do the same for Note 5. Can someone please help me with this? I am looking forward for your response. Thanks in advance.

Who is your carrier? The note 5 is "rootable" but it will stop samsung pay from working for forever, and depending on the carrier could disable your phone.
I will be using T-mobile. I dont really care about samsung pay. I dont think I'll ever use it. How do I root the phone?
There are a lot of methods of rooting the phone but I would like to know which one is the easiest way to do it. Thats pretty much the only thing thats holding me back from buying the phone.

If your interested in t-mobile rooting go to t-mobile section. It's extremely easy. I've rooted in minutes. There are only 2 kernels available but work extremely well.

Is there any Custom ROM with Knox enabled possible?

Our work place uses knox for office email configuration.
As we all know custom ROMs are built for better performance, usability etc... Is it possible to build any custom ROM which does not trip knox and still knox compatible?
no.

It's impossible.
From what I gather there is a physical fuse inside the phone that blows the moment you flash anything that isn't official.

So looks like the answer is No and I have to stick with official ROMs.
I was about to ask the same question, BUT I have to point to my last phone, the S7 where this was possible.. so why was it possible on the s7 but is not on the note 9?

Probably because Knox is more mature and secure and has added Enterprise features as customers demand it.

Oh I did not know it was possible on S7. Do you have any name of developer who did such custom ROM without tripping knox? May be we can ask him/her
If it was to trip knox root install then unroot n enable knox, its a dangerous way as we may stop using note 9 with office email if reenabling knox fails by any chance.

Did your S7 model have a locked bootloader? If so, it could have had a root method like SamFail on the Note 8 snapdragons. Either way, rooting on the Exynos will end up tripping Knox like others said.
Idk about all the bs I'm reading here.
1- the "E-fuse" isn't physical.
2- yes if the ROM can support it. Knox features are working fine on my note 8 running oneui 2.5 custom ROMs. Sure the knox is tripped but there are ways to hide it from the apps.

Well it is! (Although very early Knox used a 'resettable' warrany bit, later Knox used eFuse) - eFuses (an IBM innovation) are 'designed to fail' when an electric flow physically shifts purposefully weakened traces of conducting material:
eFuses can be made out of silicon or metal traces. In both cases, they work (blow) by electromigration, the phenomenon that electric flow causes the conductor material to move. Although electromigration is generally undesired in chip design as it causes failures, eFuses are made of weak traces that are designed to fail before others do.

As such, even Samsung cannot repair without board replacement:
The Knox Warranty Bit... is a one-time programmable bit e-fuse, which can only be turned from 0X0 to 0X1 (i.e. tripped)...
... there is no way to revert the Warranty Bit and Knox won't work on this device. The only way to get the device back to its original settings is to replace the PBA (Printed Board Assembly) on the device; hardware replacement will be required.

Yup, even Magisk (current builds) adds props to spoof 0x0 Knox from v12.0.
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/changes.html#v120
Some Knox features will work with custom software / firmware, but often Samsung Pay and other features won't. PW
