So I tried to sell my thrill, after having chosen the atrix after a day or two of comparing them in hand
I got one call that really made me angry
I was lowballed all the way to $320 for a pretty much brand new thrill [every sticker still on phone, a few minutes talk time, very careful and very cautious testing as to keep the phone in mint new condition]
The guy said "No one cares about LG"
and "no one cares about the thrill"
I asked why he wanted it, and he said "his wife"
I told him it was ridiculous to sell it for $320 when new inspires [HTC] sell for $250 and new atrix sell for $320, and why in the world would I sell a phone that is only a week old and dual core with a 4.3 inch screen for the same price?
He said it was stupid and that if he wanted to spend more he'd buy an iphone 4 for $340, to which I told him the iphone 4 won't even be worth $250 when the iphone 5 comes out. he then replies that's what 3gs is worth and I'm pretty much laughing..
then he starts saying, he doesn't care, and the best phone anyways is the sensation, the only phone worth buying is the sensation
to which I say the G2X is better than the sensation in everyway and that the thrill is a lot like the G2X...
anyways, he got really mad that I wouldn't take $320 for the phone new. I told them that on ebay they are $410 buy it nows and he said 'no one cares about ebay, ebay's dead"
anyways..funny..very funny.
i know someone will buy it eventually. i'm only asking $370 for it brand new with the car charger case screen protector etc
I would have laughed in his face and told him I was going to post this on the internet for the WIN!
LOL funny story though
Do you have his number? i will sell him mine for $320

Why would you guys sell it while you're still in the 30 day return window? Definitely worth at least $400 at this point on Craigslist, but you can buy it for $450 new without a commitment so you shouldn't expect to get more than that.
I bought mine for $330 and using with H20 wireless from craigslist

according to him, yes.
mind you I don't sell on ebay, always get burned
but according to him, ebay, the biggest auction site in the world, is dead.
he's crazy, I actually got a few offers today and no one lowballed the way he did, I should have the thrill sold tomorrow
hate to see it go, but I can't justify having both the atrix and thrill. will come back later if the lg gb or ics upgrade is crazy good or if a really good rom is at least stable.

Craigslist is the new ebay
ebay is over run with retailers sellung products at a 10% mark up over what you could buy it for elsewhere , taking advantage of unsuspecting fools that do not know better....that and overseas sellers (which i buy from frequently)
you have me tempted to sell mine for real... .$300+ for a $50 investment is almost too good to pass up....and it sure would give me some extra cash for my vegas wedding come 11-11-11

Looks like someone made quick work and already posted a Nexus 7 from Google IO on E-Bay. $600 for those who can't wait!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nexus-7-Tab...-2012-Android-4-1-FAST-SHIPPING-/150846459594
they can keep it, there is no way i will pay triple for that tablet
Someone else also posted for $1500. Another individual is selling his pre-order copy for $400. The ways people think of making a quick buck...smh
some people are just desperate to make some quick buck. I would keep it if i were them.
Capitalism at work. Don't hate the seller, pity the buyer.
I just found one on CL for 999, LOL.

Why? With the money they earn they could buy a new Nexus 7 with plenty left over!
$400 seems reasonable. After taxes and whatnot my 16gb is 300ish. Throw in shipping+insurance and a little money for their trouble and that's not so bad for someone in a country that can't buy these. If you're somewhere you can buy them I don't really see the point of buying from ebay/CL/etc
cheap in USA?
the current exchange rates is USD-1:AUD-1
It is $250 in oz and only $200 in the USA!

Can I simply sign up for the cheapest contract, get the phone at a discounted rate, pay the ETF right after, and walk away with a discounted phone?
I'm 6 months away from ending my contract, and my current phone has been really messing up a lot lately. I'm really strapped for cash at the moment, and I really can't wait 6 months for a new phone. I could buy a phone on Ebay, but a few years ago I got ripped off on there, so I would rather leave that as a last resort.
The phone is $600 brand new from my carrier. I really can't pay that for a phone at the moment. Signing a 2 year and getting it online would cost under $100 including activation fee. That's without any rebates. Just immediate discounts I believe. Plan is $60. ETF is $200. That's about $400 total with room for any taxes once I cancel. On ebay it's about $400-$500 new.
Could I do this instead of paying the $600 full price? Or am I missing something?

You're missing the fact that your phone will still be network locked, whereas buying it from the MANUFACTURER and it's dealers gets you an unlocked sim,and such phones maintain value longer
Also the carrier has a right to charge you full price if you cancel service in under 30 days and don't return equipment.

I'll be on the same network though, so that shouldn't be a problem right? I also don't mind paying an extra month. That would be about $450 total. I just don't want to be paying $600.

The savings won't be worth the hassle. I'm predicting more like $500 if you do it like you say.
But then,I'd advice you to read through your networks return policy, especially through the fine print. Like AT&T I know won't return your security deposit, another charge.

Yes. When your phone is the one tool you depend on for most of the day, and considering the price trends on phones, it's worth the investment. In any case, I didn't come here for opinions on my personal finance.

I have 6 months left? Not 60 days. And because I've set aside money specifically for this purpose. Non-contracted phones in the $100 range are obsolete, and I'd end up spending more money anyways. I know what I'm doing with my money. I didn't come here looking for the Suze Orman of smartphones.

Actually, considering the price trends on phones, you are way off. If you are really strapped for cash, but can pull enough together for a phone, I would suggest a Galaxy Nexus. You can pick one up for $350 brand new, even less used. It will easily be good for another 2 years, and you can get yourself on prepaid when your contract ends and save a ton per month.
When you say $600 I am assuming you are planning on getting the GSIII. Not worth it in my opinion. Best thing out right now? Probably. A major upgrade from a GSII or Nexus? Nope. With technology how it is right now..the latest and greatest isn't going to be that much greater than the other options.
---------- Post added at 08:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 AM ----------
One more thing...check with your carrier before doing this. Most carriers won't let you start a new contract for 6 months after paying an ETF.

How so? Market prices for good conditioned phones seem to level off right above $100. And this happens far down the line. Sweetspot seems to be in the $300 range, so $400 for a new phone is more than reasonable. $600 is not so reasonable. This is from the prices I've seen on CL or Ebay.
And no. HTC One S actually. And for me, it's definitely the best thing out right now.

You'd have to keep your phone 60 days to qualify for ETF. I wasn't referring to your current contract. Also, phone companies aren't stupid, and neither are their law firms. You will end up paying in full,or incurring a loss. There's a reason nobody is trying it.

As this thread doesn't have to do with mobile devices and instead service plans and carrier issues, moved to Off-Topic.
Quite frankly,to be putting this much effort into getting a HTC one S isn't worth it at all. If you have $300 to pay etf then you have enough to afford a one S,new and unlocked from your carrier you seem to despise.

Tried it once when the iPhone 3g first came out. It ended up costing me no less than if I had paid retail price. I think they have that all figured out.
Not to mention the hell it will wreak on your credit score.
Yeah, for the money you're actually talking about you could get a Nexus, a Sony Xperia Sola or U, or a number of other phones.
Just for the fun of it I checked out eBay to see what people are asking for the Nexus 6. And I must say I am honestly shocked. The phone is selling for higher overhead than the iPhone 6 Plus was.
Most auctions on eBay are already eclipsing $800 with some as high as $1000 for the 32 GB mode, and these are the ones with the active bidding. I have to admit, for a brief moment, I thought to myself "Hey I could make a quick $300 and then just wait until they are in stock again. Than I realized that even though it would be fiscally advantageous, I just cannot bring myself to give up on the opportunity of owning a brand new Nexus device. I would miss out on playing with the new features and finally having front facing speakers, something I have wanted for what seems like ages now. Not only that but I feel that in doing so I would be taking advantage of all those that were not as lucky as me.
I am just surprised at how much this phone is going for. If you got a pre-order, would you give up the opportunity to use the device for $300+?

No. I need a phone
Well to be honest, if I find out before I receive my pre-order that it doesn't work on Verizon for some reason, I'll probably sell it on Ebay.

I'm pretty sure that was shill bidding. Others had a buy it now price at $800 for the same thing and that listing was still being bid up with 2 days to go.
So i'm thinking about selling my nexus 6 on a facebook community buy/sell.
I usually give my devices to my family, but its not needed this time so i'm after some opinions on how much i should be asking for.
The phone is 3-4 months old, i lost the reciept recently but its around somewhere... 32GB, bought outright, so unlocked from any network, in perfect working condition. etc, there's just like maybe, 5 to 6 tiny little dints in the screen from keys in pocket :/. You literally cannot feel them, nor see them when the screen is on and takes certain angles to see them when screen is off (thats the only thing wrong with the phone, which i plan on telling on my post). I paid $876 AUD, do you think i could ask for $400-$500?
Opinions? If you were going to resell, what circumstances would you lower the price for & if you were i, how much would you ask for?
amazon is selling the n6 brand new at 399 for the 32gb version, so your $400-500 would be considered a joke, especially a device with a little bit of damage.
@rhystagram,
Your best bet is to go to Swappa.com and look at recent sold prices.

But Amazon is still selling it for much cheaper brand new. Most prospective buyers will look on Amazon first to see what prices are for both new and used.
What local retailers sell them for brand new means nothing when it can easily be attained somewhere else for a cheaper price.
I normally give people hell on those Facebook groups for asking entirely too much for a phone or tablet. Especially if it is used with even the slightest damage.
For instance, a woman was trying to sell a Droid Maxx for almost $400 USD claiming it was new and never pulled from the box, but her pictures clearly showed otherwise because of the damage on the phone and the fact that it didn't have any of the factory protective film on it anymore. The device in mint condition used only goes for about $150.
Basically, it's better to be fair instead of thinking you can charge top dollar for it. Much less troubles in the long run.
Good luck.

I agree with checking eBay or local buy/sell/trade sites for prices to get a feel for how much it will cost.
Note this, however: Amazon Australia does not sell the Nexus 6 that I can find. It is true that there was a Prime Day deal today in the states for it (pretty sure it's over now), but Prime Day is only for the US site, not for the international versions.
Plus $500 AUD is $368 ish USD.
Mate. Put it on Gumtree. You could likely get around 400 to 450 bucks for it if it is indeed in the condition you say.
