The default setting for CM11 is for the Nook HD+ to connect as an MTP device, not as a USB Mass Storage device like a flash drive. If you don't know what that is or how to access it, I suggest you search the web for instructions. There is no USB Mass Storage setting in CM11, so you must use MTP.

I recently upgraded from CM7 XRON to Classicnerd ICS and for some reason, I cannot access the USB Storage via CWM or through MTP in ICS. The only way that works for me is to boot up WebOS and mount the USB drive. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this same issue, or is aware of a fix for it? Thanks!
Make sure MTP is set under storage settings.
I also found I had to disable USB debugging under the developer options to connect to my XP PC.
I did both of those things, that is what is so strange. I am on Windows 7. Oh well, at this point I will just boot into webOS to access the sd card, just a pain to do that.
Use airdroid....no need of USB mounting....

I just had the same problem. Updated from Xronified CM7 to CM9. USB won't work in either mode.

I seem to have problems with certain USB ports on my laptop. One will not work at all while the other works fine. I always recommend trying an alternate port on your laptop/desktop if you think all your settings are fine in CM.
Hi all.
I'm using Nook HD+ with Dec 31 CM10 build.
Everything seems to be fine, except connecting to computer via USB. I expected Nook to appear as flash device (either 32GB flash or internal storage), but it does not do that. Android system notification area contains not USB-related messages, no messages at all. Do I do something wrong or it's desired to be so?

I don't know if it got fixed, but earlier USB mass storage was broken on HD+ CM10. You have to use MTP. Go to settings, storage, menu, USB computer connection and put a check in the MTP checkbox. Then look for portable devices with window explorer. It is not a drive letter.
Edit: I just tested the 01/08 version and USB mass storage is still broken.

Thank you for so detailed reply. Is this problem specific to Nook HD+ CM build or it's an issue of CM10 at all?

It is specific to the HD/HD+ version of CM10 because of how they had to set up emmc media to work.

As far as I could see this is also in CM10.1 not possible. The option (USB Connection to PC) is greyed.
Any chance that this could be work in future?

I doubt USB mass storage will work, but MTP works.

Is it just my feeling, that access via USB/MassStorageDevice is much faster than MTP?

Probably. MTP was created for music file transfers and is not that fast.

USB/MassStorageDevice is definitely faster. You are mounting the filesystem from the device natively in your OS. MTP pretty much just works with full file transfers. So where you could with MassStorage append to a file, or edit a large file quickly, with MTP, it has to download the file to your system, edit it, and then transfer the whole file back to the device.
The closest I have come (under linux), is to use jmtpfs which simulates a mounted filesystem and lets you do regular file operations, under the hood it basically does the file download/ edit / upload for you, still slow.
I really miss being able to do the mass storage device...
Hi,
First of all: I thought I could use USB mass storage in CM 10.1 before I installed it yesterday. Now I know that it is not possible right now and I have to use the MTP option. The problem here is that it does not work correctly and I don't know what to do. When I connect the P880 to the computer using USB I can access the P880 as "portable device(s)" as usual with MTP. Then I click it and it is always empty. I copy files on it which works just fine, but the next time I connect it to the PC the folder is empty again, although the files are copied into the /sdcard folder and they are still there (I see them on my phones Explorer). One thing to mention is, that I cannot copy folders onto the device which are already there (tried to copy "Music" folder and got an error). The error message then is: "Cannot copy Music\n The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected".
Does anyone have the same problem?
Did you check whether ADB debugging has been turned off before using MTP?

It was on, but now it is off and I still have the same problem. I did not know, that such a thing happens when USB debug is turned on. Why should it?
For me it works fine with the 24.04.2013 build from CM website. :-s Just flashed it and works perfect, try flashing the latest CM.
that was the problem of first nightlies. swapping two memory storage and in the case u didnt have sd memory card, ur internal memory would be empty. updating to latest nighly will solve it.
I am never able to connect my phone via USB after upgrading to CM. So I use wifi file browser and transfer files.
i have just installed CyanogenMod 10.1 when i connect nook to pc it does not connect to it ,and i cant seem to find any files i put on my sd card

CM10.1 uses a new protocol for connecting to PC's called MTP. And it make a difference which PC operating system you are running. The files do not show up as a drive letter but as a named section low in the file explorer's left pane.

thanks for that i plugged it into my laptop and worked ok
I've got a rooted GT-9295 running CM 12.1 Sept 18 build. When I connect a USB cable from my phone to my laptop, I get a "mass storage (UMS)" connection. I am then able to see everything on the SDCard, however I am unable to write to the card from my laptop. What is the solution for this?
Current stock CM 12.1 build is 2/14/2016 and I still cannot write to the external SDCard when connected as a USB device to a PC running MSWindows or Linux. This is inconvenient. Suggestions to resolve? Thanks.

SOLVED: The laptop OS is Suse Linux. Installing mtpfs on the laptop solved this problem allowing me to write on the internal sdcard and the removable sdcard.
Curiously, mtpfs is not needed on this laptop to write to an i9295 with a stock Samsung OS, neither is in needed to write to my Google Nexus tablet, Panasonic JTB1, or Motorola Defy+. Only to have write privileges on the i9295 running Cm12.1.
