Picture size too large - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Whenever i take a picture or a video, the size of it is too large. I took a 80 second video today and the size of that video was 180MB. Normal image size is of 2.5/3 MB. Previously i've used Samsung Galaxy S4 and there was an option to reduce the image/video size.
I searched the settings but i didn't find any option to reduce the image size or the video size. There are 3 options: HD, Slo-Mo and Ultra HD and mine is on HD.
Is there any option from which i can reduce the image/video size. If yes, then tell me please.
Regards

As far as I know, the only way to reduce the image size is to switch it to widescreen, that'll drop it from 13mp to 9.7mp. For video, the options you mentioned are all we have. Maybe try a different camera app?

Yeah... I never understood this, but IIRC the Google Camera app allows lower rez captures.

If you can access build.prop, you can activate the "hidden" Motorola camera features.
Change the <ro.build.tags=release-keys>
to <ro.build.tags=test-keys> in build.prop.
Once you do this, you should see a ladybug icon when you swipe to camera settings. There you can adjust image and video resolution and therefore, size.
(The whole post is there somewhere in the moto G forums. If you'd like a more detailed explanation, search it up there. Cheers!)

Samsung Omnia - camera settings and compression size?

From other Samsung omnia forums, I have found that there is no way to save the settings in the camera, but only change them every time I enter the camera and take a picture. In particular, I would like to change the contrast, sharpness and sharpness to +1 (default is 0) and have those settings saved permanently - is there any way to do this?
Most importantly, when I save the picture at its maximum resolution, the file size is around 1mb. Other forum members have stated that Samung's software compresses the file and reduces the overall quality. Typically a 5MP camera should have a file size alot larger than 1mb - has anyone figured a way to have the camera not compress the file so small, thus increasing the overall picture quality?
Thank you.

Droid Turbo Picture File Size

Is there any way to change the megapixel setting the camera shoots? Some of the pictures I take could have smaller file sizes.
When you open the camera app open the settings by placing your finger on the left side of the screen and drag it to the right. Then you will see the settings menu and select the rectangle with the L to chose from widescreen (15.5mp) or Standard (21mp). Those are the only options I am aware of with the stock camera app. The Lenovo one mentioned here is much better. I use version 3.6.7 with the call/sms/contact etc permissions and the popup and the QR-scanner removed This is a good explanation of the different sizes.

Capture Super Resolution Images on mate 9 (upto 68mpxl)

Guys I tried out a camera called camera super resolution and another app called camera super pixel to capture high resolution images. Camera super pixel is able to capture upto 40mpxl (can be set to different resolution by given options in settings).
The other app i tried out is an old app developed by dept. of image processing in The Czech Republic. It was tested on the nexus 5 and app was released at that time, unfortunatly the app has not been updated or maintained, but it works fine on the huawei mate 9 running on emui 9.1. By changing the configuration I was able to get 68mpxl images. The app is simple and ideal to capture non moving subjects (landscape, macro, portrait, products etc.
The technique this app is Super-resolution algorithm and it is a mathematical algorithm that combines multiple low-resolution input images and creates one image of higher resolution.
*note: the app might crash if you try to increase the resolution factor more than 2.3-2.4 (tested on mate 9)
*You can set the amount of images needed to capture to create the super res image
*Note: After capturing, image processing needs a little while to process the photos (roughly around 30 secs to a minute) and might use 1% of battery to run the algorithm
*The app usually captures a normal 12mpxl image too and saves in gallery
* There are no controls, just settings, capture button and exposure control using volume buttons(+/-).
**Since im a new user I cannot post the app related direct link here, google for camera super resolution android zoi.utia.ca

Camera Settings

I don't now if I'm just blind and keep missing it or it just doesn't exist. But is there anyway to turn down the resolution of images taking. I don't need to take 49mp shots every time.
in camera setting you can active, or not , 48 mp option, after, you can adjust / select image ratio, i think the size is not the same. Correct me if I'm wrong
ratio is all I find, I usually take pcs on the smallest setting like 640p since not really taking pics of anything supper important all the time. but all I see is ratio as well but no image size option
you don't have "48mp ultra hd" ? just below "ratio" ?

yeah it gives 48 and 48 ultra nothing else besides ratio

Question Stock camera low resolution pictures

Hi all, I noticed that jpeg pictures taken with stock camera, even at 108mega pixels are not so large, the are around 4mb. I also have gcam installed and the ones taken with it are 44mb.
No way to increase stock camera quality?
Using stock camera the image file size is approx 36 Mb when selecting 108Mb camera on my S21U (SM-S998B).
Selecting HEIF format reduces it to 30Mb.
Yes, mine to. But if selecting 12mp the image become 4 mb

Dear jacopastorius, JPEG is a low-resolution image format. If you want a high-quality image, you should try png, which is used for high-resolution images.
