nvm, further researching helped me figure out my rooting problem.

Hi xda
I have referred to this site many times for help but never became a member until now - I seriously need some help!
I recently bought a second hand S3 LTE which I knew was locked but as I had unlocked a few phones in the past I thought it wouldn't be a problem... until I encountered Android 4.3 and its bodyguard Knox. Searching on forums I found many other people experiencing similar problems but nothing conclusive that didn't involve using a Z3X box which costs about as much as I paid for the phone.
Apologies if this has already been covered in some form in another thread but I have done a lot of searching and a lot of hair pulling before coming to this stage.
So to cut a long story short I managed to successfully root the phone using CF through Odin and installed the version of SuperSU capable of bypassing it (downloaded .apk as opposed to play store which some people had said worked).
Next stage was to remove Knox, I installed NoBloat Free as suggested by someone in another forum and I basically removed anything with the word Knox in it and that seems to have done the job.
Now I just need to unlock the damn thing! While I have had some experience with rooting / unlocking a few android phones etc I really don't have much knowledge on the subject and pretty much forget it all in between phones :silly:
For the record I don't care about warranty, flags etc and am more than happy to downgrade if it means getting the phone working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
[A] Need help unlocking S3 on 4.3
Hi. The only way I know is via 4.1.1 ROM as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help-i9305/sim-card-unlock-samsung-galaxy-s3-gt-t2185866 (no root needed, just install the 4.1.1 using Odin)
I recently unlocked a stock 4.3 I9305 downgrading it to 4.1.1 first. It worked fine and then I restored a Cyanogenmod 4.4.4 ROM I had from another I9305 of mine. And then on CM I "lost" the IMEI (it happens), but I easily recovered it.

It seems that I have root for...most...intents and purposes, but not when it come to things like xposed or next app so fix. Now I'm running 1.4.4.B.0.37 On Xperia Z1s. Rooted using flash tool, note... Does seem to freeze at the reboot part when it tries to install busybox so I manually install from marke. I had root for awhile then saw on xda that you could "proper" root by updating threw ota. Tried and failed multiple times. I have a screenshot of the error from xposed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Figured Out
Well, i never gave up and figured out the problem. Even though i had the newest version through OTA, it did me no good to revert back to last version since thats the version you have to "proper" root. Sooo, i downgraded...again...to stock (C6916_14.2.C.0.159_TMobile.ftf) then rooted and it worked. doing installs and checking as i type but so far viper4android and xposed are g2g. now to upgrade to next version (C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf) for "proper" root. thanks and glad if i could help others with same problem. I think i will post a guide for z1s so others (seems to be alot of us) can have noob friendly guide. :highfive:
starting my guide...
I am starting my guide and wanted to know if there should be a specific area i should post it? Is the correct place here in the Q&A area? or in the Development area?
Ok, so here it goes:
I own a at&t galaxy s4 active , the day the lollipop ota came , I updated successfuly. THEN, I used KINGROOT and successfully temp rooted it.... HERE'S WHERE MY SCREWUP comes in- I DIDN'T flash any custom recovery, and while I was deleting some system bloatware, I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THE BUILD.PROP!! Now the phone will boot,, but not into the OS.
I know its a VERY dumb rookie mistake, I'm new to Samsung devices, I've always been an HTC guy, and I'm definitely not New to rooting , unlocking bootloaders, etc. But Never on Samsung devices...
So I'm pleading, if anyone can give me any advice on how to fix this, PLEASE lemme know, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

DON'T USE KINGROOT! Sorry to yell about it, but I can't stand that monstrocity. Unfortunately there are no lollipop firmware files, so you're going to have to follow my process detailed here to get back to working lollipop rooted:

There's no way to unlock this phone's bootloader so you can't have a custom recovery anyway
Hi all
I have been trying to root my phone but I think I bought the most annoying phone to root. I hit a wall on every direction so far, from what I can understand, rooting for the new version of android is hard enough but the active is somehow more difficult than the regular galaxy s5. I have been told to downgrade using odin but I will need to get the matching older version of baseband and kernel. I'm not sure if this is what I need or even where to find them. Have anyone rooted a galaxy s5 active recently? any suggestion would help.
Thank you so much.
nvm sorry for the post..... this phone has no hope..
I apologize in advance for my ignorance.. But after searching the forums and Google countless times, I am left confused as to whether or not it's possible. Many this I've read imply it's possible, yet I cannot find clear and definitive information.
Currently my S5 Active (g870a) is on Marshmallows PH2. Can I downgrade from this build on this device to a build which is able to be rooted?
Like I said, I've seen guides for downgrading but they often start referring to the regular S5, so that's where I'm getting lost.
Thanks
Yeah you can downgrade to OF3 by this guide. If you lucky you can find root with that.
