Hi,
A relative told me yesterday that after updating his Moto G to Lollipop (XT1068, retail, from UK, got the OTA a couple of days ago), is facing issues with the phone. I didn't have "physical" access to the device, but it seems that the problem is in the launcher. Whenever he gets into the homescreen he gets a "Unfortunately, Google has stopped" message (just Google, not google play services or google search). Also, if he clicks in the app drawer button, the app crashes and he can't get into it. As there are no icons in the homescreen, he can't launch any apps (although he can access the ones in the quick access bar or through the notifications shade).
I did a bit of research and heard about the infamous lollipop memory leak. Is that it? I can only troubleshoot it by phone, so I haven't checked memory management in the settings.
Have any of you had this issue? Any clues on how to fix it? My first idea is just install another launcher until I can get access to the phone to reset it, but I won't be able to do it until next weekend, and I would like do my homework by that time
Cheers!
Well, I managed to get my hands on the phone this weekend. The homescreen was inaccessible, as the "Unfortunately..." message was constantly on the screen. What I did was getting into the settings through the notification shade, and do a factory reset. This seemed to fix the issue, so I will leave this here, in case someone else needs it.

I've been using DROIDs since DROID 1, then X, and now Bionic.
I have the issue on my Bionic: I'll get a notification that an App has an update. When I select the app from my notification pane, it opens Android Market and takes me to the My Apps view. However, no apps display as needing updates. (Yes, I'm sure it's a notification to update an app and not the notification that an app has been updated (auto updates)).
I can go through all my downloaded apps and none of them show as "updateable." Sometimes it displays, that there are more than one (like 3) apps that have an update, but again, when I go to My Apps, I can't find any app that has an update - there is no update button only Open and Uninstall.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue?
Have you changed the LCD density at all? That gives me various problems. I always have to grab an older version of the market place to update.

I know what you're talking about. I've found when that happens, it's usually tied to a system app or a preinstalled app, such as Gmail, YouTube, or Zumocast.
Annoying.

I concur, I had the issue as well and updating the pre-installed crapware seemed to remedy the issue.
This has been happening to me as well, and it's not always system apps. Yesterday I had the notification in the morning, with no app showing up to be updated. However, I checked the market later last night, and Swiftkey X was showing up. (I had read that Swiftkey had an update earlier in the day, as I recalled when I saw that.)
It could be that the apps are sending notifications before they hit the market, or it could be that the market app has issues. I think it's the latter. I generally used to check the market for updates when I plug in the phone when going to bed at night, and I may start doing that again.
I hate the new market - since the last few updates (when it got its current new look, with books and movies) the market has been pretty crappy.
Same thing here. I get the notification, but there are no apps showing as having update available. If I go through the apps one by one I can usually find some with updates. I also have apps mysteriously disappear from time to time. I went to open Gentle Alarm last night and it wasnt there anymore, I re-downloaded it and it installed and all my settings were still there. Strange.
For some reason, it keeps changing from your default account to a secondary account. I have two Google accounts on my phone; one for personal and one for work. If you go into Market and then hit menu, accounts-you will notice it changed your default account. I haven't figured out why it does this-my OG never did.
Could it, in part, be due to applications that were set to auto-update?

This happened to me this morning, but changing the account showed me the applications that needed updating. If anyone knows why the account changes, I'd like to know!
got my brand new note yesterday, got a couple of issues though if anyone has any ideas.
the memo app doesn't seem to work, i get this error
the application s.memo (process com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo) has stopped unexpectedly.
the screen does not rotate into landscape when on the homepage, only when opening an app, and then not all apps. Very annoying.
When using my bluetooth headset, I can only make calls or use voice commands if I am logged into the phone. One the screen has timed out and turned off, I can no longer do anything, which rather defeats the point in a headset and voice control if I have to get the phone out and login anyway.
I installed the firmware update when prompted, but this did not change anything.
thanks
Well the rotate is because its down to the apps to have a rotated layout and some prevent it from happening including the home launcher however you could try a third party launcher which will allow this

I've seen a lot of people having troubles with their Note after they've bought it, such as FC's, slowdowns etc, as did I.
The easiest thing you can do is perform a Factory Reset (Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset) which will reset the firmware to it's original state, but won't delete any data on the SD card. Just make sure you export the contacts to SD card before doing this. That fixed the slowdown problem for me, as well as some FC's in apps.
As for the rotation thing, the TouchWiz does not rotate on landscape, and some apps just ain't programmed to work in that mode. You could download some other launchers from Google Play, like the poster above me said.
My status bar keeps disappearing. It pops back up for a moment, every few seconds, but then disappears again. It's like the device thinks it should be in full screen mode or something. I first experienced it after installing ever note, which went to a full screen display after I logged in. I un installed ever note and re booted twice... the second re boot seemed to fix it. But it just happened again when I launched the xda premium app.
I also notice that it no longer says my name, just "my kindle", in the status bar... before disappearing again. Maybe that element of the launcher is stuck in a cycle???
Anyone else experiencing this or know a fix?

I'm seeing the same thing. But, I think it might be worth noting what I have done to mine that may be affecting it:
1) Rooted
2) Installed Google Play
3) Removed my ads (unofficially)
I found if I go to the kindle management page on Amazon.com and change the name of my kindle, it does push it down to the kindle. However, it loses after some time again.
So far I have not rooted... just side loaded GMail and Google maps. Amazon cs was not very helpful...told me to swipe down and hit sync, but the problem is that I can't access sync or any of the tools in the status bar

OK, the root was what I assumed was causing it. If you haven't really modified yours, then it might just be an bug. Perhaps an update will fix it.
Anyone have a completely stock KFHD and noticed this?
Did you get the OTA update?
I had no problems stock and running fine rooted now with Google apps. Might want to restore to stock and test each app you install.
I did a cold shutdown and power up, and so far its doing better. I'll see if it decides to act up again. Fingers crossed.

I think it will do it again for you...I'm having the same problem. I have _not_ rooted, but I have installed Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Mail, Google Maps, and Google Play Books...along with the Google Framework and Google Login. I just noticed this behavior today.
Yesterday I was able to get the Google Framework working with my apps by installing Google Framework and then reinstalling all of the apps that started not working. I'm wondering if it is having Google Framework on the KFHD. I needed Google Framework to get Google Drive working (which is working quite well now).
Be nice to get the status bar back. When I shut down (not sure how to do a reboot), the status bar shows up. Then after a while...it goes away again.
UPDATE: It seems that after I shutdown and restart the notification bar is fine until something tries to write to it. So whenever I get a new notification, it seems to crash the notification bar. I did install USAToday last night. I've uninstalled Google Framework this morning and I'm getting the same behavior. It would be nice to know what is causing it.
---------- Post added at 02:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:35 PM ----------
I uninstalled in the following order:
1) Google Framework
2) UsaToday (since I just downloaded it last night)
3) google Drive
4) Google Mail (when I uninstalled this my notification bar _magically_ came back and has been working ever since.
I don't have time right now, but I will probably reinstall everything to see if I can reproduce the issue and then see if running GMail fixes the issue. I noticed that something was doing a notification which caused the bar to disappear. I wonder if it was some issue with Gmail.... I'll report back later tonight...unless someone else with the issue can verify things.
I'm having a hard time reproducing the error. It hasn't recurred since yesterday afternoon. It may be noteworthy that the last time the notification bar disappeared, I opened GMail to send something and the bar reappeared. It has remained since then.
Go figure... I wouldn't worry too much about it being a Google framework issue, though. At least a few people have reported the same problem on the amazon forum.

I went through a factory reset today, and redid everything I did previously. The only difference is I did not install the GoogleLoginService.apk as I had before. Thus far I am not experiencing any disappearing notification bar. Things have been writing to the bar all morning, and I have opened every app on the device without an issue thus far. I'll report back if it decides to disappear again.
Well it is happening on my kfhd as well. Guess I will have to do a reset as well but rather not to tell the truth. Maybe unregister and reregister or is that the same thing
Update: just went into gmail and after closing, the bar is back! WT.

I tried the unregister/register and it didn't help. I realized that I did not install Gmail this time either, another difference from last time. Perhaps its the culprit?
I have a very good feeling it is gmail. I did not have this issue until after I installed gmail and the notifications started to come in.
That is when I started to see on instances the notification bar disappearing. Going back to the original carousel, opening gmail seems to have fixed the issue. In the play store, it says that it was updated for 7" tablets (most likely for nexus 7) but perhaps not having the proper support for the KFHD7. Uninstalled gmail and everything is back to normal.
It has been two days since my status bar disappeared. After opening GMail, it reappeared and has stayed without any more problems (knock on wood).
So... don't despair, GMail can work with the fire!

my kindle is rooted
this happened to me today after i installed accountsandsynsettings apk and allowed gmail to syn opening gmail has returned the notification settings. oddly it was when i got an email at two 2am that i noticed the notification bar disappearing tried shutting down the kindle then turn on but will not fix . but since i open gmail its back.
It definitely appears to be caused by Gmail. Just turn off notifications from Gmail in the app settings and you will no longer encounter the issue.

I had the same problem. I went into "Settings" and there is a section to manage Notification settings. I just turned off notifications to apps I didn't need and the problem stopped. I didn't go as far as figuring out which App was responsible but it seems that certain apps can screw it up.
Same issue. Playing with different scenarios. Worst case I will re-install from scratch.
Again, Gmail is a sufficient cause.. there may be other apps as well, but if you disable Gmail notifications it will most likely solve the problem

Thanks man! I did exactly as you described and my notification bar is back. What is causing it to disappear?

Amazon and google not playing nice. Gotta remember that you are sideloading it onto the KFHD.
Hi,
I'm having a weird issue when I'm in the recent apps screen. I'm not sure why, but as you can see from the photos, there is an ugly message showing up saying: "couldn't load widget" that specifically only appears when the there are apps present in the recent apps menu. I've had the google search app disabled since I upgraded to 5.0.2, but the message keeps showing even if I re-enable it. Further more, a family member also has the z3 compact and I can see that the google search bar doesn't appear on his phone in the recent apps menu even if it is enabled, so in his case the rrecent app menu on his phone doesn't show any widget whatsoever, regardless of whether he has the google search app enabled or not.
I'm no phone expert so I thought the best place to go would be the XDA forums, so I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out how to make this ugly text go away. The only thing that I tried to do, without any results, was to wipe the cache partition.
Thanks
It's just a guess, but I see some mini-widget icons I do not recognize from my phone. Perhaps it has something to do with those?

These are just some additional mini-apps that I have installed. I doubt they'd cause something like this though.
Anyone?
I have a tmobile note 8 and ever since I upgraded to Android 8, push notifications are coming in delayed and all at once at random times. Take outlook for example, an hour might go by and then all of a sudden dozens of notifications hit all at once. I checked if maybe battery settings were messing with outlook but it is not blocked and my phone is in performance mode. Seems like my phone is going into a deep sleep and not doing push notifications as they come in. Any idea what is happening?
Same thing happened to mind after update. But seems to be resolved now. I think I went into Apps then pressed the three dots in the up right corner and chose reset app preferences. I also messed about in the notification menu somewhat prior to that.

Factory reset. A good practice after a major software update.

Disable the GOOGLE app in app manager. It should ask you if you want to go back to the factory app. Just agree to this. This is assuming you checked to make sure Battery Manager wasn't turning off your app or the data saver wasn't killing your app data access. If you have done these things and your app notification is still delayed it is being caused by the GOOGLE app. Listed as "Google" in app manager. Hope this helps someone else.
UPDATE: I should have mentioned for a permanent solution and to allow you to continue using the GOOGLE app you can go to the Google Play Store, find the installed GOOGLE app, click uninstall to revert to the factory GOOGLE app, once uninstalled click the three dots at the top right and Uncheck the Auto Updates to the GOOGLE app. This will allow you to retain the factory app functions and should resolve this notification issue at the same time.
