Question regarding Google Backup - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Totally out of the ordinary question but was just wondering. I have flashed many Roms on this phone and every time I do a clean install of a ROM I go through the setup and then get to the screen that says "restore from backup". But it is not recent, it only shows me a backup I did before I modded the phone and installed a customer recovery and ROM and its from 2 months ago. Anyway to fix this that anyone would know? I'd appreciate it

try disabling the back up option then reenable it. i always flash dirty, and dont lose any data or apps

Yeah when I dirty flash of course things just stay but if I go from ROM to ROM or do a clean install of a ROM it doesn't give me a backup option aside from 40-50 days ago... Any ideas anyone?

Has there been anyone who read this and could help?

There's already a thread on this buried somewhere, but no there's no known fix. My best guess is that it doesn't work on non stock roms.

Looks like the ROM isn't installed well. Please revert back to stock, and install the ROM again. And hey, please download the ROM again. Sometimes even downloads can be bad, not just installs.
Revert back to stock using the Odin 1-Click back to JH7 then attempt to re-flash.
But - I hear some complaints about DG's latest Cognition build so I would poke around there before deciding to re-flash to see if there are still any issues.
Two sources for that fc that I have found:
1 and least likely is a bad flash. Go back to stock with odin and then reflash the rom. You will have to do this anyway so no big deal.
2 the only way i have encountered this bug is from resorting system data with titanium backup. Only restore user apps unless it its the same rom build as it will always cause nasty bugs and fcs
Just my two cents though

Reflash from stock.
That happened to me the first time i flashed my phone on day one. Went to recovery and wiped user data and problem solved
i think its something with the titanium backup cause
it only started saying force close after i restored all apps + data...
anyway thanks everyone

Yea... I've had that happen before - you should be able to safely re-install APPS ONLY - sometimes things get corrupted (especially for me Launcher Pro) when I tried doing a TiBu backup/restore.

[Q] HELP!!!!

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.
If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

I tried that, too, not all of my apps restored, and my data would be gone on them anyway

[Q] Why are old apps already installed after fresh wipe and ROM install?

Hey guys,
I'm new at posting in the forums, so I apologize if I have put this in the wrong section. I read a lot of posts, but this is the first time i have posted a thread, ever. =P
Anyway, I have a Rooted White T-Mobile G1, I was running the somewhat recent build of Roalex's COS-DS ROM, and it started to get really sluggish and I was having a few other problems. (I love that ROM, and he has done a great job, I just felt like a change.) So I went to install Ginger Yoshi 1.4 after doing a nand backup, SD Wipe, and SuperWipe. Once i finished installing the ROM, I rebooted my phone and it started fine and everything. Then it asked me to choose which home I wanted... Which was confusing, considering it was a fresh wipe. I should only have 1 Home launcher on there. I realized that I have several apps from past times. (as in, a WHILE ago. I haven't had these apps for over a month easily...) I tried another wipe and install. Still to no avail... I did some searching and I couldn't find anything that could help me. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to explain in some detail. Anyone have any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know this rom, but nowadays many roms have a backup functionality included and they are backing up the old (g)apps, flash the rom and re-install (some of) the old apps again.
"Some" because normally there is a list of apps to be backed up and re-installed. If your launcher is on that list and the rom has a different one pe-installed you then have two.
If you want to be sure to get a "clean" installation, use
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
Or flash ohsaka super wipe before flashing the rom.

Sorry, I should have specified, the "SuperWipe" that I mentioned above, is Ohsaka Super Wipe... I have flashed it many times, and reflashed the ROM many times as well... Still having the apps installed. The wierdest part of it all, is that they don't seem to be using my sd card space OR internal space, almost as if they are somehow from the EXT4 partition I have, and they never got erased... The odd thing is, is that I never figured out how to move stuff to EXT, so there shouldn't be anything on there...
My guess would be that these "old" apps were downloaded originally from the market. If you are registering the phone with the same account you were using before, the market will download and install all the apps again from the market.

Well the reason it couldn't be that, is that I actually don't have a data plan. I always skip sign in, and then enable WiFi. So the apps wouldn't be able to download until after I was signed in to my account. Yet, they are there right when I start :/
This is a very odd, occurance. Haha. Thanks you two for your responses though.

All my apps are FC'ing

Hey, I was using Beast 7/1/13 and it worked great,
used pimp my rom, voodoo sound, semaphore manager, rom toolbox lite
after i installed the new beast rom my apps suddenly force closes... everyone one of them.
the first error i see is,
Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped.
I have no idea what to do!!!
wiped/formated everything and resroted the rom with the nandroid backup from before the update but everything still keeping to force close and that message is running everytime
EDIT:
googled my issue and someone said the fix is to wipe the contacts storage, i did and it worked... so if there is an admin here, you can close this thread!
That is a common failure when switching Roms. Sometimes you can destroy your filesystem with restoring the app data too. So flash again and this time restore apps without the appdata.
Before you reflash you can try to delete those app data. Everytime when i got this it has helped. I never busted my whole filesystem. Let me know if this works for you too.

First of all thanks.
How can i delete the app data before re-flashing/ re-flash without the app data?
And by the way, it's weird... I thought that when i upgrade from 2 builds of the same rom it should work fine... :S
I think i understood what your saying... your talking about clean flashing and then using titanium backup to get my apps back?
you're welcome.
i don't know the beast rom. I use Elites 4.2.1 Beta.. (btw did you tried elites rom? Do you know how it is compared to Beast?)
but my way to get the app info is long pressing the app on the app drawer and when it gets to the homescreen i move it to the app-info panel. That'S the easiest and fastest way.
Normal way would be settings --> apps ---> tap on the app you want
once there you hit "delete data" Sometimes a reboot is needed. Or try it 2 times. Or if the first didn't work do it again and then reboot.
This shouldn't happen when you just update your beast rom. But sometimes it does on the Elite roms too. Not often but it happened. The biggest screw up was when i changed from ELite to Cyanogen mod.
right i talk about clean flashing and Titanium Backup you just flashed the update rom without doing 3 wipes right?
#
if yes the best way would be to do a clean flash again. And than if you got problems with your backed up apps try what i have said. Are u using Titanium?
cheers

Don't know elite roms... you got i9000 right?
I was just upgrading builds so i didn't do a clean install... now i'm kinda mad about myself for not backing up my titanium as often as my titanium backup as often as i backup my nandroid... i think i'm gonna backup all info, do a clean install and restore everything without the data... hope it'll go out well... learning my lesson i guess
Edit: another thing that comes into mind is restoring my 27/12 titanium backup backup (XD) and then working my way up from there..
Edit 2: My whatsapp says that my internal storage is too low while i got 800mb free... :S and now after clearing the data in titanium backup and re-working it it fc's again.
Edit 3 and last: I ended up doing a clean install and learning that i should backup my titanium backup more often since i now have to restore from 27/12

How can i do that since i rooted it and who would i take it to?
Return the device back to stock. Then take it to where you got it from.

Just do a factory reset and go to Samsung.com and get them to start the process.

I had the same issue this morning. I have SS installed and also X-Note, Verizon ported rom, and Knox Raid 2.6. GPS was working but would continuously run because it never got a lock.
How'd I fix it? Well I deleted each rom slot and reinstalled the rom. I did this one by one, rebooting and testing each rom as I re-installed it. It turns out that after I uninstalled and reinstalled the Verizon ported rom, the GPS signal was able to lock on all, even my stock rom slot running X-Note.
I thought it was PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for a rom to modify settings like this within safestrap to where the changes you make in one rom could bleed over into the other rom. I thought that was the purpose of having SS rom slots.
But...you learn something new every day. I hope you don't lose too much info, but this is what got me back up and running.

So i only have 1 rom slot now. i have installed a bunch of diff roms. so your saying i shoudl install all that i have installed and look at the gps setting?
i can get it to work if i use the gps test app in the app store. but after every cal i have to re run that test app to kick it back on. such a pain
You may not have to uninstall all of them. Just do it one by one and test each rom. I would start with the newest rom because that's more than likely the rom you were on when it stopped getting a lock.
