Good news on 360 videos... - Samsung Gear VR

Word on the street is they are close to implementing something called "cube mapping" on 360 videos. This will dramatically improve image quality and focus.
Can't wait.

[REQ] HDR Photographs

Is there anyway we can do what apples doing with their camera to take HDR photographs, the only the reason i cant see this happening is capture speed. basically it takes 3 photographs; one underexposed, one taken with normal exposure and then another with overexposure. then finally puts them all to one photo. I think this could be done on our phones. Unfortunately i don't have the coding skills to do this. otherwise i would work on it. I hope other people will think this is a good feature.

welcome to the game apple
Pretty much any time Apple announces a new feature, if you aren't already using it or know it is in the base Android, just search the market for it. It will already have been done.
Vignette also has a pseudo HDR mode
camera 360 market link
Thanks guys, I'll check out camera 360
just tried camera 360 - great app, but the HDR is simulated, I wonder if anyone has done a real HDR app that actually takes multiple shots?

Doubtful, as taking three shots would have to be VERY fast as the spatial location of the camera could not move between them or there would be artifacts introduced into the image from movement (phone or subject).
Highly Distorted Reality is silliness anyway, what is it you're really looking for? Pull out shadows? This is a phone, not a real camera...
it would be nice be native on Android camera app.. or probably CM

That is exactly why it's simulated on the android app, as scote noted above
It just would not be feasible with the camera we have.

A friend of mine does HDRI photography, and other cool effects.
Are crApple's cameras really that much faster/better than our cameras that they can do it? I doubt that.
i imagine its simulated as well, or it takes 3 images and crops it and pieces it together the same way the d2 does with the panoramic mode.

No, I know exactly what HDR is.
Could it be that the HDR shots are a lower resolution?
they could effectively be doing something like "progressive scan":
sensor line 1 takes an overexposed image
sensor line 2 take a medium exposed image
sensor line 3 takes an underexposed image
sensor line 4 takes an overexposed image
sensor line 5 take a medium exposed image
sensor line 6 takes an underexposed image
etc

Ha, sorry, I took this "Highly Distorted Reality" as your definition.
Point was, linking to pictures that people make with Adobe products throws an unrealistic expectation of an example of what a mobile device can do. Even though you listed those as examples, some people would be confused by true post production vs. a quick picture filter.

Instagram Story Camera Quality on Turbo

Hello good afternoon
I bought the maxx bike about 3 days ago, and it's an excellent cell phone, except for some things that are not optimized like the performance of the battery, which is solved with greenify.
I come from a motorola G1 and Alcatel idol 3, and I am astonished that the video recording on the moto maxx is inferior or similar to the one of these cell phones, I still can not find any app that will benefit you :/
Find an app that really took advantage of the photos, like the bacon camera or the HDR snap camera, but I still can not find an app that makes me satisfied with the video recording :/
Do you recommend any app for video recording?
A query, I occupy many social networks, and I just realized that when I try to record a video in stories is really horrible, it seems recorded in 240p, you know why that happens?
Edit: Here I found people with the same problem https://www.reddit.com/r/droidturbo/comments/57yy4p/instagram_story_camera_quality_on_turbo_1/
Greetings and thanks.
Your answer is in that thread:
I had the same experience with the photos as you described. Videos just look like garbage. FYI I just found out you can upload from your camera roll if you swipe down while in the story camera. I’ll test the quality and see if it is better when taken with the normal camera first.

I have been uploading from the camera roll and have been getting much clearer uploads compared to shooting in the app. I only use the main camera so I can't comment on the selfie camera. I imagine the app just is not optimized for the og turbo's camera. Maybe it will get better but I might have a new phone by then.

That is known, thank you.
But currently the application has the option for live videos and just the rear camera looks horrible in this, while the front looks like you should see.
He sent several messages to instagram but received no response on the problem; This is precisely why I do this query here.

Are you running a custom ROM -- if so have you tried OTHER camera apps which are available? For instance, I have one of the Moto G cameras running on my Moto Maxx. There are others. Do they all have the same issue?

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Google Pixel 2 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am particularly interested in low-light videos of both devices and the audio quality. From a few samples i could check on YouTube i suspect problems with the noise suppression at least on the XL. Trying to assemble examples in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/77mmk1/pixel_2_xl_video_samples_low_light_and_audio/

Yes. Cinema 4k for me is the best. Open camera is also good but has no noise reduction. Cinema 4k has really good noise reduction. Filmic pro isnt worth it for me. The quality is just mush compared to what you get on Cinema 4k no matter what color profile or bitrate you use.

The sequence settings and export settings are scary when you first try it out but you learn a lot over time when you use it. I just cannot recomend any free or super cheap softwares. I love this, auto focus works good.
Its quality too.
I recently test my new Pixel 2 , with Filmic pro, and the OIS works excellent, the zoom is very soft and accurate, also works the mic gain slider, and all the features of the app.
For record videos in a concert, Filmic pro is the best, you can monitor the mic gain, and control it with the slider.
Video of Pixel 2, is a great upgrade from Nexus 6p.
