built-in Microphone not working, water woes - LG Optimus L90

Dropped my phone in water.
thought everything was ok till I made a phone call and now the microphone doesn't work.
Any Ideas?

for anyone interested I opened it up to see how hard it may be. (i followed part of a youtube how to remove screen) found the board with the microphone on it, disconnected the ribbon cables and tried to pry it off lightly. It didn't want to let go. Figured I needed to use a heat-gun or blow-dryer with a plastic pry to get it off. As I didn't have the board I needed yet I decided to scratch a little on the microphone (probably did nothing). Popped the connecters back on and put it back together. turned it on and It started working.
May be it needed some air? May be the connectors were not engaging right? IDK but I'm confident I can replace the charging port and microphone on one of these because they are on the same board. The screen isn't that much harder either.

!
hi!
unfortunately i had the exact same experience but in my case the mic never fanctioned again.
Since you did it, can you please tell me which one is the mic...? is it the round thing on the oposite side of the speaker with the 2 spiral connections on it or am i ...scratching the wrong thing ??
thank you in advance man

[Q] X1 big problem - 3.5mm- known + an unknown problem = damage

Hello people!
I still have problems with my xperia x1. I don't have money to buy another phone so I'm using it and would be ok if the case looked good (and if in my country i would find cheap parts) and it wouldn't had so many issues.
I think you didn't understand much from the title, basicly is another thread about known xperia x1 issues + 2 unknown.
So, by now
1- cracking case, scratching easy case
2- phone sometimes turn off when slide opened/closed rough. Can live with that
3. keyboard problems
4.headset problems
4.1. : all the time headphone icon showing on screen
4.2 : sound is not clear, is blured, so I have to pres on the phone in the area of the 3.5mm jack (i mean i have to press on the case in that area) or if i have the mini usb pluged in like charger and moved it back and fw i get an improvement, or by moving the headphone jack against and finding a right position, at firs I thought is form the headphone;s jack but i guess it was the connector chassis on the main board.(the headphone jack was very tight inside and stiff, so the problem wa not from the inner conectors)
4.3: together with 4.2 problem another probleam apeared. when I insert the headphones, sometimes and more and more often, the phone would start DIALING the last log from my call log (e.g. dialed/received) automaticaly. This realy pissed me off. I had to move around the headphones to avoid that, or turning off my phone network. I searched but I guess I am the onlyone with these 2 above mentioned problems (4.2 and 4.3)
So, because i bought this phone as a bargain (60 USD) as a faulty and repaired it, and had no waranty and not being scared to reopen it again, and most of my "quality" of not searching on the internet first, but trying to fix it by myself I found myself writing here a lil bit disapointed of what i did.
I opened it, tried to see wich conector is loose, then tried to put some peace of film to put pressure on the 3.5mm conector, it didn.t work.. then somehow the 4.1 problem apeared. I didn;t got this problem only once in 6 months and i solved it bak then easily with the help of my stilus. Of course I didn;t knew what was causing it. So I tried again with the stilus but this time it didn't work, and I panicked..15 minutes of pain...me trying to solve problem no. 4.2 and 4.3 and got 4.1 wich was there to stay...
started to twist the screwdriver inside rough, put pressure on the small conectors inside and outside,,and then...after pressing on the low conector i did it. It disapeared. So I was like evrika!!! I solved the problem and realisesd what was causing it. Someone else here wrote the same thing in another post, and did exactly like me, or me exactly like him
What it happens is: when headphone not inserted, the conector is touching another conector, and so this means the OFF position. When inserted - the tip og the headphone jack pushes against the conector, detaching the connection making the ON position. So when i pull of the headphones i get the ON state wich meant that there was conection (I pressed with a screwdriver and bend it there so it would alway make a conection).
BUT somehow, I didn't let it, and torn that litle piece , so know I am back again on headphones because I have no conection. So I did a conection and now it's ok but I can't use my headphones anymore + and now my 3.5 mm conector is dead.
Replace? How? Where I can find a 3.5mm chassis? It has 5 soldering conectors. I hope to replace it, and I hope that with this ocasion I will solve the 4.2 and 4.3 problem
Any clues on getting this part? Or a compatible one? Or a better one?
LE: so if you encounter problem 4.1 just insert the stilus in there and move it at the end of the hole or take a cotton bud and clean it with some alcohool, it might be dirty.

no more x1 users here?
my X1 have hard-keyboard, scratching problems.
I'm using it more than a year but never had 3.5mm jack problems.
before giving some serious damages you should give your device to HTC or SE repair service.

thanks for photos! just fixed my 3.5 mm jack

I just dismantled my 4x HD!! And replaced the headphone jack!

Thought I'd share what I've just done! I (rather stupidly) was listening to music while working on my car - the only headphones I had to hand had a big size (6.35mm) headphone jack, so I had an adapter in there too. Al this meant a rather large lever poking out the side of the phone. I'd obviously bent down to do something and wrenched the socket to one side. The 6.35mm adapter had been bent over and broken... and when I tested the phone I found the socket was broken to - only working in one ear
I went on line and found this guide to dismantle the phone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGD64_g-ssE
Actually nothing to it! Except Even though I do have a very small set of screwdrivers the screws used on the phone are really small!
I bought a new headphone jack from here for £20.08 delivered : http://www.etradesupply.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lg+p880
And it arrived in the UK in less than a week from the US!
Out of interest the headphone jack can be removed without any of the other circuit board connectors, or the board itself being loosened.
It also houses the proximity and light sensor, I did put it back together and find the proximity sensor was constantly reading 'near' (using the hidden menu 3845#*880# )So I quickly opened it back up again, removed and replaced it one more time. Now it works great, I must have had it badly placed
Well, at least the video was not published in vain
Nice work!
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for decribing this.
I guess I have to replace my jack, too, since it doesnt hold my headphone strong anymore and sometimes the electric connection of the headset mic gets lost.
I have found the jack for about 5$ incl. shipment at DX:

I got the ETrade one. Also I think parts4repair.com sell parts for the p880.
The little arm you can see poking out actually bends and doubles back under the socket part. I found my screen wasn't waking up when I moved the phone away from my face, I just opened my phone back up and padded it out (between the socket and the sensor part) with a little shim (card etc, I actually cut off and used a little piece of a lens cleaning fine cloth) and now the screen wakes perfectly for me! That was my biggest gripe (apart from huuuuge lag when the browser opens!) and i no longer feel I need to ditch the phone!
Don't lose the little square rubber part that the sensor part sits in! And I recommend using a tiny flat-head screwdriver for the phone's screws, the posi-head screws are so tiny I couldn't get a good fit, and it's all too easy to ruin the tiny screw heads.
on/off button doesn't work.
Anybody know how to fix the on/off button. ?
I'm really pissed, I've had the 4x only 6 weeks and don't think I overused it.
button placement and size isn't that great to start with.
I flashed Arararagi vanir 4.3 and it was running great too.
I've never had any problems with the headphone jack, have my phone for about 4 months now

The on/off button? buy a broken 4x?
I took mine apart a few months back to clean the inside of the screen.
Had to send it back to LG as had a few issues regarding call quality and the screen not coming back on when you take it away from your face - Just got it back and they replaced a case and a lense? Not sure what lense though.
It also said Software update - They sent it back with ICS

they probably even permanently locked your bootloader, if it was unlocked your "phone not turning on when moving away from ear" problem was sensor miscalibration that you could've fixed easily.

No. it was new when I bought it.
Had it for 6 weeks before the power button stoped working.
just used it everyday, rooted it, a few roms, then daily use.
i expect something like this from a cheap chinese knockoff, not an LG 4x. i had a star b92m where the screen became unresponsive.
next time I'll get a SONY XPERIA Z.
The 4x has been in the shop for two weeks already. .
OverVoltage on the headphone jack =(
I believe is overvoltage, I connected a plug from my radio for louder music(as I usually do) but wasn't working, and tried moving the connector on the radio and instead of plug in input from radio, I plugged in the output from the radio, a sound came from the radio and that was it, no more sound signal from my P880, I love this phone, I'm so angry about this.
So I checked with earphones and nothing, just noise, no volume up or down, and the headphone mode is turned on all the time, do you now a site where the earphone jack flex can be delivered to South America, Bolivia? and if you have some other suggestions or solutions specially for taking out of headphone mode, I even can't make calls! thank you in advance
The two parts places I have used are I have used are etradesupply and parts4repair. There's probably lots of others out there. Not sure where they ship to though

Replaced digitzer- no vibrate

I replaced the digitizer on my HTC VIVID. Everything powered on, connected and was good to go.
However, I quickly realized it would not vibrate at all for any function.
Does anyone have enough experience to point me to the right direction on what to look at first?
I'm guessing the obvious. something happened putting it back together.
Thanks for any help.

My guess would be something did not get hooked up properly. I would suggest taking it back apart to validate connections are good and no messed up connectors. I just replaced a digitizer 2 weeks ago and the vibrate worked fine.

Rodger doger. Thanks for the response.
Yeh, I figured that was the obvious, but was hoping I could locate someone who'd had a phone vibrator issue (just sounds ****ing kinky right), that would be able to tell me something specific to look at, like how it's connected, etc
Someone's had to have experienced this before.
Still hanging on wating.
Help is out there i know...
B
Just got this:
"Thanks,
The vibrator can be found directly under the battery terminals on the back of your phone.
The vibrator simply plugs into these two prongs. Usually, the vibrator is simply not plugged in all the way. Now if either of the two connection terminals on your phone are missing, or damaged, then the vibrator will not work at all at this point.
Start by breaking your phone down from the back, and check this connection. Sometimes you can get to this part with a small stick like a tweezers or small screwdriver to check if the vibrator is plugged in properly.

No service after waterdamage

Hello,
My note fell into the water last night and it was a pain in the ass to fix. I kept my phone in a bag of rice overnight to soak up most of the water. Today I took it apart and removed the remaining water and put it back together. The phone finally works again! Yes, it all works except for the service.
When I unlock my sim with my code everything works, but I cannot call or be called because there's no service, even though whatsapp etc works fine.
Can anyone help me with this?
Also: sometimes it DOES work, but the signal is very weak. Sometimes I can call and be called and sometimes I cannot.
You might have disconnected the antenna while taking it apart. Check for bent connectors etc. You can also check the external antenna - remove the small black rectangular sticker on the right side of microsd slot above the battery. You can insert a thin copper wire with a piece of aluminum foil connected to it - you should get some reception. If you don't and you internal antenna is properly connected then the water might have damaged some electronics. It can get expensive.
Be careful and don't hold me responsible if you mess up your phone any further. And good luck.
I'm not sure. I'm still getting a signal every now and then. Is there a video on how to do this by any chance? And do you have a picture of the antenna by any chance so I know what to look for?
Sorry, can't be of much help here, never had to open my Note. But I remember back in days whaen I messed around with my Touch Pro 2 and HTC Desire it was a common issue. Nearly every time I got the phone back together either phone signal or Bluetooth were gone and the reason was always some bent copper connectors that didn't stick together when all the parts were back in place. These things are fragile. Sometimes had to clean them as well. Google for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 disassembly manual, I'm sure there will be one with decent pictures somwhere online, it'll help you locate the internal antenna. If there's some weak signal sometimes it's a good sign and looks very much like disconnected antenna, you may check the external one to be 100% sure.
Edit: the antenna is a thin copper sticker somewhere on a flat surface of the chassis, either on the side or around the camera or something like that. It's often painted in the color of the chassis to prevent it from oxidation. There are several - phone, bluetooth, probably wifi and maybe GPS (dunno). It's usually possible to follow where it leads to and find connectors.

No Audio after screen replacement

Hi,
I really need your help as I have no idea what to do.
After 1 month of using MI5 Pro Ceramic black I have broke my phone,First the touch worked and there was only vertical lines on the lcd in the spot of the shatter so I could operate but due to my stupidity and of force touching the broken glass these vertical lines started to cover all the screen (Everything worked well on the phone..Sound,Camera and etc..)
So I ordered from Aliexpress LCD + Touch screen for about 70$ (Included DHL Express shipment)
When I got the screen I started to disassamble the phone.. Got everything out,Took out the broken screen and pasted the new screen on the frame (Must say all these aliexpress screens are really bad,0% protection on the screen,Not sure about the LCD quality yet but glass is horrible..Started to scratch even before I used it)
Anyways to our point..
Started to assamble back everything.. Powered on the phone and Yay! Phone is working but...
No Sound,Firstly I checked settings and everything..Ran CIT test and everything that belongs to audio giving force close..
Calibrate Speaker PA test results : State-Get impedance failed!,Speaker Vendor-None
Vibration- FAIL no short and no long
Main mic speaker Feedback,Simulation call test,Front mic speaker feedback test,Top mic speaker feedback test,
everything when I enter it giving FC with that details :
"IlegalStateException:Unable to retrieve AudioRecord pointer for SetParameters() blablala...
Headphone mic feedback test (Called on an uninitialized AudioRecord)
So in short..
No Speaker,No Mic,No headphone Mic..
Now my question is what I need to do from now.. Its not firmware/software problem for sure as before I disassambled the phone everything worked well..
My first guess was the problem is on the Sub PCB but then I asked my self..If the USB-C is working and WiFI antenna giving full signal it means the Sub PCB works so what the hell is the problem? I really hope its not something in the PCB it self as it means throw everything to garbage.. ;<
Hope to hear suggests..
I thought to order the MI5 32GB Black version take out the Main PCB put the Pro Main PCB and put also the ceramic back cover but that I would do only if I know that the problem is from the sub PCB but if Headphone mic doesnt work (Which the Main PCB take care of) then its probably in the Main PCB??
Please help!
you didnt damage the pins on the press connector? is the press connector on the ribbon cable flush / fully inserted ? Are you sure you didnt kink the ribbon cable?
I haven't pulled a mi5 apart, but can only assume its like every other phone i have.

The problem is that far as I understood of how the mi5 built and from how I saw it looks like..The Speaker located in the Sub PCB cover,Vibrate connected to subPCB,And all the SubPCB connected with the cable to the main PCB and I checked it connected good and no any damaged pins from what I was able to see..If there was damaged pins then the phone wont get charged as the USB-C wont be connected as it located in the SubPCB however it does work.. So I really have no idea what cause it..
Also the Headphone mic doesnt work in the tests..Anything related to Audio giving that FC with "AudioRecord" error..
I really must to know what causing it so I will know what to do ;<
Little update,
Just connected a bluetooth speaker,No any sound nothing..
Hi everyone! My MI5 has the same problems, no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can not play music, video offline and online video (Youtube, Facebook, live stream ..). It was happened when i replaced brooken screen. The first time when I turn on, evetything ok, I can play music through speaker, but now everything has gone..! Plz tell me how to slove this problem! Sorry for my poor E!
Hi, I ended up on buying the phone again... It's impossible to fix that problem as probably you did what I did and didn't place the motherboard correctly so a little bent probably happened and that cause to the problem.

Hi there! Care to elaborate a little more? I have also the same problem. I was replacing the rear camera module while the module I had received was broken to begin with. I hadn't really figured this out initially and I tried several times to attach it and test it, perhaps move the flex and retest, and at some I remember I found out the vibration was not there, but didn't pay attention to it as everything was open, until I found out the camera module was faulty in the end, and subsequently discovered also the whole issue with sound/vibration/key backlight etc. Instead of buying a new device, I was thinking to try and fix it, but still I'm a bit unsure about what the problem really was. From what I could figure, I didn't do anything different this particular time the audio/vibration didn't work, with respect to the previous times I attached and detached the motherboard. But is it definitely the board itself and not its flex connecting it to the sub-pcb? Could it be the sub-pcb itself or even both this and the board? In case I buy a new board (perhaps together with a sub-pcb just in case) to replace it which part should I watch out for, not to damage it again. Sorry for the many questions but you seem to be the only source of info for this specific problem.

Hi sorry for late answer,I barley visit xda these times..
After I bought the MI5 again this time in the 64gb version I tested the old 128gb motherboard (The main one) and still same problem with Vibration/Sound (While all sensors work camera too)
Which means its not the sub-pcb problem,Its the main motherboard for sure,Now what cause it?
In my opinion when I pulled of the motherboard to put it on the new screen I insert it in a bad way which made it bent a little and probably the place I bent is where the audio and all the stuff goes on..
I'm pretty sure we cant really do something about that problem as problem related to motherboard it self are usually not fixable,But if you find something I will glad to get a feedback to test on my own bad motherboard so maybe I can back to the 128gb version ;| but I doubt it..

Many thanks for the response! It sheds a little light indeed. I also ordered another phone to replace it as the cost of the motherboard seems to be equal approximately close to a new device. I'm with you, in the same view, I also once placed the motherboard quickly in the chassis without the screw that holds it together, in one of the 50 or so attempts to try and make the camera sensor I was replacing, visible to the OS, and this looseness was the unfortunate one perhaps (?). I too don't expect the sound to work again. I just wanted to double check the issue was not with the sub-pcb, which I did thanks to you. For sure I have no hopes for the mainboard to work again, but still, what keeps me from being certain it is actually the sound card that is the problem, is a very similar case I saw In a foreign forum, and also clues from my device which support the argument that the mainboard might have entered in a kind of diagnostic boot state due to a hardware fault that was apparent, where either some components are not initialized during boot, or their HW resources are taken over from the diag. ports and irqs that are enabled, in which case the issue can perhaps be fixed. For sure whenever I find a good deal on a new motherboard I will replace it, to keep it as a secondary phone, as I liked it quite a bit, but It would be interesting to see if this hypothesis holds or not. Anyway thanks again for the response!
Hi,
I've bought used mi5 with broken screen. After LCD replacement I've found that that phone has problem with sound. Exactly the same as in this thread - no sound, mic, vibration, led buttons light, plugin earphones without notification's icon, can't play music, video offline and online video (Youtube).
Someone already did LCD replacement on this phone and probably done something.
But what I discovered on this phone that problem start when battery charge aprox more then 60%.
I did flash one year old ROM via fastboot ( just to verify if it not the ROM problem) and after that everything was fine ( battery level 50%).
I did hardware test - passed 100% fine.
But when I did charge till 100% the problem come back.
That's really interesting finding... Can you tell me the same steps you did like which rom you flashed and all of that? I will check it with my dead phone maybe if I will have the same thing like you we can point on something...

Exactly same problem with me, just replaced the rear camera and the problem occurs
No sound, no vibration, nav led not working at all, playing video not working
Even playing sound via bluetooth speaker not working too
I believe there is something wrong with the mainboard
can anyone point out which part of the mainboard responsible for the lower board?
The lower board works well though, I tested it using other mainboard

For me the problem was that after the screen replacement (It may also apply to you after you replaced the rear camera..)
When I put back he main motherboard it wasnt sat properly,I put it beneath a small plastic holder and when I closed everything and screw and all..Problem appeared and when I rechecked motherboard I found out it got bent in the right down side and that's probably what killed all the sensors, sound and everything..
Of course that what happend to me..There is plenty of other reasons that may cause to what you experience..

I believe the chip or something similar, that control the sensor, led, vibration etc, was broken because we put it the wrong way
now we need to find which chip it is and replace it
which part of the right down? near the signal cable?

If you just checked and saw you put it wrong as I did,On the little plastic which made a little bent then I guess you lost..I would just buy new motherboard on aliexpress or just give up and buy a new phone..
As you cant really know (I mean from our side..) if its a chip related there or if its the bent it self which made problem on the connection on the board it self..
And yes I was speaking about the right side near the signal cable where you need to install the motherboard from that side where there is a little plastic like holding the motherboard..When I did the reinstall by not checking I put the motherboard on that plastic and after I closed everything and all screws got back I discovered that problem..

yeah, it means it's the same mistake as mine, that little metal thing that hold the motherboard, I forgot to eject the sim card tray and when I pull my main board it was stuck, got a little bent from there
Just wonder if anyone have the schematic for mi5 mainboard, since I'm curious and want to find a way to repair it
Not because I'm in despair of needing a phone, this MI5 is my secondary phone
Just because of the curiousity, that's all

found the schematic here
https://data.dendik.id/Data/Schematic/Xiaomi/Mi5_SM.rar
now on the journey to repair this stupid mistake, lol
any help from someone who are an expert in this thing will be really appreaciated
