HI Guys
I received a mail from a friend to look at a website www.3coffer.com
They offer PDA's, Phones, PC's, Laptops, etc at amazingly low prices (an Apple powerpro for 250 euro!). It seems to be a Chinese website and maybe our Chinese friends from this forum can check this and if this site is scam, then we should spread the word or try to remove the website.
There are millions of websites out there that sell stuff, are you going to post about each one of them to see if it's spam or not???
You really should tell your friends to stop too. It's like those n00bs that like to forward all their friends about virus warnings. Because of those people forwarding those emails, the email spread further than the virus ever could!!!

Hi,
I am Wen. Alot of you know me for either working on XDA's front page or WMPoweruser.
Well I am looking for someone that would be willing to work for one of my sites.
The site is new, and I just made it last night after being bored.
The site is a general phone site, so can talk about any phone news, which means your job is really easy.
All you do is:
Find 10 interesting news anywhere in the web about phones( I like smartphones more than dumb phones, but either works)
Write about it.. with good English and grammar.
Post it or schedule it to post the next day 1 hour apart.
This job isn't hard, and you will get paid for it. And if your good enough, you will either get a raise or I will find a bigger higher paying site for you, but only if you work hard.
What are the benefits of being an editor. Well you get to review phones(right now, I have the Palm Pre, Pixi, Motorola Droid, Devour and more. all to review). you get free things(right now I have the Jabra Stone, and Jabra Halo).
You can have all that if you work hard enough, and this job doesnt require much.
My pay can be discussed if you PM me.
BTW you might want to know that site you will write for:
MobileBlab
Its only 24 Hours old
A couple qualifying questions...is this US-based equipment? How do you anticipate to have the editor experience the technology first hand so they can write about it. I'm sure that you don't want someone to write about things second-hand. I mention this because you cannot steal photos and stories from others without subscribing to their site or network.
you read sites and write news... i dont need a reviewer just yet. and yes usa
Which is the same thing, you should not be stealing stories from other sites or write about news second hand. You've got to be able to put up stories that don't exist elsewhere, especially in the digital world today. What you need is underground sources that can feed information to your "editors" to put out stories. The only way to take second-hand information, from stories that already exist on the web, and use them to your advantage is to aim your site at a specific section of the market. Even then, you need permission to run the story and pictures.
A perfect example is Tmonews.com. They take stories and just publish the ones that are relevant to T-Mobile users. A generic phone site won't catch on.
I DO, however, have an idea that will catch on because I'm not seeing it elsewhere right now and it would be the perfect time to market the site. PM me if what I say makes sense and you're interested.
I am not quite sure what your saying because all the sites do that.. its not called stealing unless you dont link back to them.... Engadget is the biggest example alot of their news are from other sites.. so they just link to them and use the news.
So... ya.
But I will PM you to see what you have to say

I'm not a news follower but rather a tweaker/tester kind of guy. I share my discoveries with the rest of the world with nice tutorials.
If you need someone to write easy-to-follow guides or to review phones (I tried every platform but WebOS and Nokia's), then I'm your man. You can see samples of what I write on my blog (blog.nicolasbouliane.com).
UPDATE: By the way, you won't get many visitors with copypasta since most people refer to a single site for these news (generally Gizmodo) and won't like reading the same stuff a day later on another blog. A simple description with a referal (à-la Lifehacker) will do the job for anything that's not original content. You should instead try getting visits from Googlers looking for a specific topic.
I would be very interested in this type of position. Where would I need to submit a sample of my work? FYI, hiring a woman with tech knowledge is very chic these days
So you girls really do exist!
Really, a female.. great ill PM you... now I need One more.. and If I get more than 1, I have more than 1 sites... I have http://theandroidfeed.com and http://mobileosnews.com
count me in I'm pretty there when it comes to phone news
what do I have to do generally
I still think you should be more specific in your market.
Answer this question: Why should I go to mobileblab over engadget, mobilecrunch, techcrunch, cnet, wmexperts, or coolsmartphone?

well engadget, cnet, == iphone bias and I know when I read a phone review site I get tired of those biases personally
taking a look at mobileblab I think it has potential but that's just my opinion of course...gotta start somewhere

Very true, but that was the same question that was answered when Engadget and Mobilecrunch linked stories to my other site....
Engadget doesnt post as much news as my other site does.. and ya, thats why I have a regular reader base, because the readers know this.

Cnet, just watch their comperison videos.. Iphone never losses.. but not much Engadget.. but Gizmodo does.
Hello, my name is Tom-Helge.
I have a case going on the Neowin forum that i want to share with you. And this post might get a bit long.
I'm gonna explain this to you in the best possible way, so i don't sounds like i'm crazy or anything like that. But the whole case is a mess and it stinks fanboy from an admin a long way.
Let me explain you why.
Ok, the day for me 2 days ago (12.12.2012) started out with commenting on some articles about Apple requiring 30% revenue from Microsoft in SkyDrive and Office 365.
That was all fine and nothing wrong with what i was saying.
Then i suddenly got a personal message from Neobond (one of the admins) witch said that i had got 2 of my comments removed and got a warning for that, because i said some users was idiots. Witch i found very strange.
Because when i went back to see what kind of comments he had removed from me, then it was the comments where i said Apple was the idiots because of how they are and because of some of their policies, not the users as Neobond claims.
I called Apple for idiots because of their 30% revenue policy that is my own opinion. I didn't say anyone was dumb, stupid or idiots because someone liked Apple. I said the way Apple is going is idiotic.
Here is one of the comments i wrote to a user that Neobond removed: If Microsoft is removing SkyDrive or Office 365 from iOS because of this 30% revenue thing, then i recommend you to find someone else to use that isn't idiots.
I think it was that comment that triggered Neobonds actions. But if you read closely, you will see that i'm actually calling Apple for the idiots here because of the 30% revenue thing (witch again is my own personal opinion).
Then i asked Neobond if he could explain to me on why he then removed my comments when he clearly are lying to me about calling users for idiots.
Then he just replied and said No. Basicly he refused to give me any explanation at all on this, witch is rather strange coming from an admin.
Then i asked why he wouldn't explain it to me. But he didn't say anything after that for a long time. Then i got angry and said that if he didn't answer within 6 hours to me with some explanations on why he did remove my 2 comments and gave me a warning, then i would bring this case further with the other admins (he was clearly taking me as threatening him by saying that).
3-4 mins after that, he just removed the whole conversation about this. Then i wrote him a personal message and asked why he removed the conversation.
4-5 mins after that, he banned me from the forum.
Is that the way to treat their users on the Neowin forum?
To just give their users a big ass "f*** you" finger because someone said something one of the admins didn't like personally?
I wouldn't mind the warning and the 2 deleted comments if he actually could have explained to me with the truth on WHY i got that warning and got those 2 comments removed. Also that he could have provided some evidences on what i was saying, right?
This is not a good way to treat their users. And absolutely not a good way for Neowins image.
He is rude and childish the way he is. So i got a ban on wrong accusations.
My original account name is 'Tom-Helge'. You can see my profile here: http://www.neowin.net/forum/user/352710-tom-helge/
If you look at my profile, you see that i have the whole 30 comments after 2 of my comments was removed since 2010 when i registered my user.
Take a look at those comments i have and tell me how much of a troll / fanboy i'am as Neobond claims i'am.
You simply don't find any bad comments there, not by a mile. PERIOD.
Now it's true that you might find some posts here on XDA-Developers from me where i bash or talk bad about Apple long time ago. But i have never got a warning or got banned for it. Because the moderators / admins here are way better than the admins on the Neowin webpage.
If a moderator that actually owns an iPhone (yes Neobond told me that he had an iPhone) is going to mess with their users just because someone says something negative about the brand he loves / uses, then he better get another job to do, seriously (it stink Apple fanboy a long long way by the way he told me he uses an iPhone and the way he talked to me after he removed the negative comments about Apple).
I have now been trying to contact Neowin it self of some of their admins for about 1 and a half day now without getting any responses back. So my patience is over.
Now i just want to know what you think about this whole case?
Is this the right way to treat their forum users?
Have any users here seen any similar reactions from any moderators or admins here on XDA-Developers?
Now someone might come here and say he's an admin and he's always right. Well, try to tell that to the moderator here on XDA-Developers that was about to perma ban me like 1 year ago or so, because he though i was saying many bad things (that made me break many rules here), while in reality he mixed me with another user.
He did apologize to me after that. So everyone, even as moderators or admins can do wrong things.
Now, don't take me wrong, i really like the Neowin webpage, but when some of their admins is treating their users this way, then this case deserves to be heard everywhere.
If this post is placed on the wrong place, then just move it to the right place if any mods can do that then. I couldn't find any other places to post this.
Greetings from Tom-Helge.
EDIT: I added a poll with a simple question.

But do you think this post shouldn't have been posted or?

But there's always two sides to a story so I can't really judge. None of the admins at XDA are douchebags though.

@OP....plain and simple...once you sign up to any of these privately owned forums and agree to their terms and condition, you pretty much are at their mercy. Unless you pay a fee and expect to receive a service in exchange for money (which in that case is called a bilateral contract)....you are being a allowed into someone's house and you batter behave or you'll be booted out just like it happened.
Us SMs and Admins do our best to make sure everybody adheres to the site rules but if at any moment we feel that a member has crossed a line...banned he would be and don't really have to give any real explanation. Doesn't happen often but that's the way the cookie crumbles....
Ta OP...wish you the best and next time follow the Admin, site, Mod's suggestions.
Cheers,
M_T_M

There's a reason that reputable sites like The Verge and Android Police are referencing it from evleaks twitter account. evleaks has been in the game for a long time and is rarely wrong about anything he posts. It's usually a safe bet that if he puts it out there, then it's going to come to pass.

What i'm trying to say is there is something wrong with that leak.
Maybe we'll have a white nexus 5, maybe not (most certaintly yes), but the inconsistency in the image is visible.
I would not say verge and android police are reputable sites.
These guys just follow the standard blogging information dissemination of re-posting the same info/stuff everywhere.
That being said I'm definitely getting a white nexus.
It is NOT a fake.
Look at the official black render from the Google Play Store page, it have the "issue" about powerbutton and camera too. It is simply an error that comes from LG/Google

Not sure why you say they're not reputable sites. They've got a history of fairly accurate reporting, a few "sources" that they can identify legitimacy from, and they tend to pass on things that common blogs gobble up and spew out. Despite all the leaks of release dates as an example, I saw no indication from either of anything until the evleaks post, which many including other sites like Android Central and Engadget use.
Add to that the Google themselves left a message to the Android Police apk teardown team in the code of the latest Google Play Store release before it went live. Watching the G+ Nexus community post blog after blog talking about "unofficial" this and that, with no coverage from sites like Android Central, Android Police, The Verge and Engadget shows that they don't tend to simply post whatever is floating out there, they take their time to vet it.
Like any news outlets, of course they've been fooled a couple of times but overall their accuracy, as well as tact in reporting make them more reputable in my eyes.
And black Nexus 5 for me please, though I will admit that it is the first white phone I've ever even remotely thought of getting.

Show me a more reliable source of information on this phone than Android Police, @evleaks, or The Verge.
None of these sites have ever claimed to know "facts", they simply put the information out there with a disclaimer to "take this with a grain of salt".

Remember last year when Google was going to announce the N4 and the event got cancelled because of the giant storm in New York? They invited The Verge's Editor in Chief personally instead and announced it there.
Anyway, kind of brings me back to my original point. Many reputable tech publications across the board follow the evleaks twitter. Head over to his and look at his followers, you'll see many tech giants in there. Take a look at this article that talks more in depth about Evan Blass (evleaks) and you'll see why he's someone that the tech industry pays very close attention to.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...rview-with-evan-blass-the-man-behind-evleaks/
Well not to rehash this.
I think what I said was misinterpreted.
There certainly are many reputable sources (industry insiders, distributors, manufactures, people closely connected and etc) out there and evleaks is definitely one of them. When it comes down to exclusives, breaking news and leaks these kinds of sources are generally very reputable because they're in the heart of it and in the know.
However, these blog organizations are just outsiders who just quote reputable sources - in this case they basically just posted what evleaks wrote. In a sense all they did was "retweet" what evleaks. Saying what the other reliable guy say doesn't make you, yourself, a reputable organization. That rep comes from the own content you produce and the way you vet information.
When it comes down it, these blog sites are just all following the same sources on twitter or whatever. Most people here probably follow these same sources as well. These are not exclusive sources who only give your organization exclusive information - this is free information that is posted for all to see and it's just being passed around/circlejerked by all the blog sites and even xda right now.
As for the content these blog sites actually produce. Well the way these blog editors review products is cursory and superficial at best. Whenever, I watch a review posted by a blogging site I can tell they haven't dug deep enough and that's because those guys aren't real industry experts or even "power" users. I'd love it if these guys actually would dive in their products more and even disassemble the products to check the quality of the internal components. I know alot people who use a product heavily or for a particular purpose/industry would really love and appreciate that.
That's where I'm coming from and that's my two cents.
Now back on the subject.
I really hope they do simultaneously release both colors.
I always hate it when they release the white version 3-5 months after.

It may be a fake rendering, but the information itself may be real. Evleaks has always been dead on with his stuff in the past, so I think his leak is credible.
I figured since we turned this forum into a Questions forum with up and down voting for each answer, I'd ask:
How can we make the XDA forums better?
No answer is too outlandish...be creative. We're listening!
Maybe you think we have too many ads, or maybe you think search totally sucks. Perhaps you want more theme options, or you want more ways to learn development. Whatever your idea is, we want to hear it!
Do something to get rid of the elitism that permeates so many forums here at XDA. This drives away new users who would otherwise want to participate in the community. It also drives away old users who used to participate more.

Guys, please stay on topic
I would like, to have some sections, where people can learn modding, learn how to do proggraming for type of stuff we do here on xda.
usualy, someone post some amaizing tool, but it would be even more amaizing if there is separate section for developers who want to learn, deep inside of android system, how to mod it, code some useful software for it, etc
in these times, where all manufacturers are locking bootloaders, or completely ditching bootloader, so it can be unclocked, it encourages lack of experimentation android was before, because people have locked phones and xda forums isn't popular as it once was, there are no more amaizing things, and even if you want to try to make amaizing thing, you can't because there are no resources to learn android. manufacturers, make everything more locked, android is becoming iOS for some reason.
so basically, i would like to have section, like on stackoverflow, but to be focused on android modding, and questions people ask, how they can learn it. (as stackexchange android enthusiasts suck, and it's just that, enthusiasts, but not developers, programmers who want to learn and ask qusetions)
that would make this community useful, for developers.
usual questions, like Q&A is okay, but just want separate section, where real professional people look. (just look, at Q&A, full of regular people who have no clue, and not even read guide, all those questions can be solved with existing guides on XDA, and even if can't, then phone is hard bricked, or question is just trash, and that me, and i believe many others, programmers, professionals, drive back from it, we need quality questions where programmers can look for to help fellow programmer.
and, with this, upwote and downwote, it would be a good idea, as, in those special programming threads, programmers would be able to see most useful answer.
with all people bashing here, this became some low quality, chat forum, i wish we can make it more quality focused, but still noob frinendly, so it have sections for noobs (existing Q&A), and expert section
And what @Jaxidian complained, this would be solution, as sometimes experienced people don't have patience for noob question (they just say "why you don't search first before posting"), those people who answer that way, just wish they could answer and help someone more experienced struggling and not answer same questions from noobs that don't research before posting. (if someone is noob, he becomes even bigger noob if he ask for something that has been asked milion times on same platform)
my 50 cents
A 2-7 day waiting period to post for new members would discourage one thread wonders looking for a quick fix here rather than simple doing a Google search(s).
Help dissuade spammers as well.
Those with a sincere interest would suck up the wait...

Or limit the forums new members can post to just Q and A subforums.
My observation is that in the Q&A forum regularly - almost daily - the same problem (e.g. data recovery for bricked device, rooting device, bypass FRP lock) is presented by different users and asked for a solution proposal: in my eyes a nonsense.
My recommendation: The Q&A forum should have sub-forums for this.
Also, I do not understand why 2 Q&A forums exist, namely Q&A and Q&A->H&T. Users do not distinguish between them.
Please bring back the XDA Labs app.

I think that's an interesting idea, but nothing will make a new user more upset than a waiting period. In 2021, people expect instant access and quick gratification. If we were the only phones community, I would agree with you, but if I was a newb and registered then had a waiting period, I'd say "screw it, my problem is important. i'm going to reddit/AndroidCentral/somewhere else"

That's not going to happen unless a team of developers steps forth to fully take over its development.
