What happens with the calling features that makes you think you need a new phone.apk?
How did you root it? Custom ROM? Stock?

Try updating to 2.2, by flashing an sbf from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221 to update to 2.2.1.
i think i did that. i just might have used the wrong one.. any suggestions on which one to use?

Use the one specific to your country/service provider.
ok. issue solved. it was process.android.acore
a simple factory reset.
my dad had the phone and simply said the phone wasnt working. but its all good now. thanks all
I rooted this phone for the sole purpose of using Titanium Backup. If the boot loader had been broken, I would have flashed a ROM from one of the very talented people that cook them.
That being said, I now want to flash the stock 4.3 upgrade. When I click the FOTA Upgrade button nothing happens, just a button click, nothing more (sound and tact). So I unrooted the phone and deleted every trace I could see. I ran 2 root checkers and verified. Then I called Tech Line. They got into my phone to try and push the upgrade, but told me that being still rooted blocked it from happening. I ran the SuperSU unroot and rebooted and pulled the battery. Again I have confirmation from boot checkers. So it should definitely be unrooted. But I haven't let Tech Line loose in it again. :fingers-crossed:
Moving on...
I followed the instructions on the Samsung site using Kies. But Kies tells me my firmware isn't supported for Kies update. Really?!?
I followed the instructions on the Droid Magic site, I downloaded file OneClick_I537UCUBMI2.zip and fired up Odin. I have tried several different versions of Odin but none use .zip files. The phone does connect to Odin both in download and stock bootup.
Should I attempt to reformat the compression of the file to .tar or similar? Could I extract and run the lone .exe file in the .zip? Is there a switch to flip, or script to run, or app to install that will allow FOTA or Kies to work?
I would rather get the FOTA button to work, but I'll take any and all thoughts or suggestions offered.
I'm working on hosting the file unrestricted temporarily so maybe it can help someone. But it's kinda big.

It sounds like you have quite a bit more reading to do so that you can understand exactly what you are trying to do. That said I'll try to answer your questions.

Is TitaniumBackup the only root app you've used, have you frozen anything, installed any mods, or messed with any of the apps in your system/app folder? This will become important later.

It sounds like you need to uninstall BusyBox. Normally SuperSU will uninstall this but it sounds like you tried a different method of unrooting that may have left bits in your system and since you weren't technically rooted anymore SuperSU didn't know what it needed to do.

It sounds like you have the AT&T i537. This phone has a locked bootloader as you know. AT&T has required Samsung to lock down the i537 and will not allow them to release any firmware on Kies, this is why the software says your phone is incompatible. Basically AT&T is screwing us hard.

The website you linked to is giving you bad information. The MI2 file is not technically "Official Firmware". This is a pre-release version of the firmware that DesignGears was able to get for the community. This will become important below.

As you've stated, this MI2 zip file that you've downloaded has a single exe file in it. This exe file should be run from a computer and it will allow you to flash new firmware to your phone. BUT, as I mentioned above this is pre-release firmware. What that means is you will forever be stuck on this firmware, you will not be able to take official updates from AT&T or Samsung. If you're ok with that, then go ahead and flash your phone with the pre-release of 4.3. If you want the official 4.3 update you have a little work to do. Above I asked you if you messed with any of the files in system/app, this is because the official update file can be downloaded and can even be flashed but it checks nearly every file in the system/app folder to make sure that it is the original file. If you've modified anything in there, the update is going to fail.
I'm going to post a few links of stuff you should read, but there is definitely a lot more that you should be reading.
How to flash stock MF3 - this is most likely the firmware you are on, but this thread will tell you how to get it back to stock, the way it was when you took it out of the box. This should allow you to take the official 4.3 update if other methods don't work.
MF1 Pre-release (4.2.2) - this is a pre-release of 4.2.2, you should read this.
MI2 Pre-release (4.3) - this is a pre-release of 4.3, read this thread to understand the benefits and drawbacks of flashing this pre-release firmware.
Official 4.3 Update Thread - this tell you what you need to do to try to update your phone to the official version of 4.3. Currently there is to way to root the official 4.3.
SafeStrap Thread - this will allow you to flash TouchWiz 4.2.2 based ROMs on your phone. Again, you need to read before you do anything. There's actually a lot we can do even though our bootloader is locked.
I can't stress enough how important it is to read. Once you've read everything and you think you understand what you're doing, READ MORE. There's always somebody who's done what you're trying to do and someone has more than likely given the answers you're looking for. Read as much as you can and you can avoid bricking your phone and ending up with a paperweight.
Good luck and us know if you have any questions, everybody is here to help.
You mentioned something I had forgotten, I did install app quarantine so I could remove the samsung and att apps from my drawer. So i went back and installed active root and app quarantine and unlocked the apps. But it seems I must have also deleted /system/apps/wssyncmldm.apk and .../KNOXAgent.apk. I can't believe that I deleted them instead of renaming them like I normally would, but it seems that's what I did.
So I'm hoping that some of you can copy these files to a google drive or something so i can reinstall them. pretty please?
If all else fails, i have insurance so my phone might get broken in a fall while doing some dangerous house work tomorrow.

So I decided to change my boot animation on my d959 with T-Mobile latest update. I've done it before and never had a problem but this time when I boot up it starts the animation and then just freezes there. Since I'm on D95920m and T-Mobile decided to get rid of download mode I'm not sure this one is coming back.
I have tried everything on XDA I could find but without download or recovery o don't think there is much that can be done for it. Does anyone have a suggestion or am I stuck rebooting hoping it will get past that point just once.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53728658
Im not positive on this but I think if you change the setting on the top left to" emergency " you don't have to be in download mode. This has worked great both times I've used it.

Thank you for the suggestion but it didn't work.
I downloaded and tried bot kdz from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
It made it further but errors out. I have attached a couple screen shots as to how far it goes. I'm thinking the computer is suppose to tell the phone to go into download mode, which is not there thanks to T-Mobile, or emergency what ever that is.
And what so odd is the g3 comes boot loader unlocked.
It's like the devs for the flex struggled to get the OS to boot then during extensive testing it booted and they said "Hold the f up don't do anything else. It booted. Box it up and ship it out before the GS5 hits the market"
Yes, it seemed a little rushed. Lucky my wife loves me and didn't kick my butt to hard about it. Ended up getting a Nexus 5 and to be honest I like it more. Always liked stock Android and everything just works. Would have liked to have had a bigger screen so I may join jump and get the Nexus 6 when it comes out. Thanks again for your help.
Have u tried looking at the device manager and changing the phone to just adb had same issue and changed driver to adb instead and was able to flash back to stock am now running my own version of stock modified with g3 apps
This is what my phone looks like now
And what i mean is change the drivers under device manager to adb drivers for the phone and u should be able to flash stock back to the phone

Wow that's amazing you even ported dialer and other system apps? My ROM on the note 2 had ms ported and it took weeks to get everything working. What all did you have to modify? Do you plan to release it that was a lot of work to not share especially as busy at work as you've been.
Also, you need to get with playfulgod seeing how you also ported the g2 modem to your flex based on that baseband.... or possibly you just changed your build.prop to show like you have a flex. Do you think we are idiots?
Like maybe you're running this ROM and taking claiming you made your own?

There hasn't been much talk around here about the download booster since G900AUCU2AND3 was the latest firmware about 6 months ago. You'd have to downgrade back to NCE and do some other tweeks before you can get that running without losing your GPS or Camera. There is a guide somewhere around here for that. So on lolipop right now, no.
And that nova launcher tweek doesn't really work either like some people claim. It only unhides the feature but doesn't get it to actually work.
I had it working on 4.4, was just wondering since like you said theres not been much talk.g900v has it so maybe port it from there?

It worked in XDK but that was based on a g900f rom which is why I assume it worked. Perhaps I'll need to do this to get it working again. I'll try to look into it but I have so much on my plate I can't promise anything yet.
Ahh download booster is in AllianceROM which I'm running right now. So this seems to be the case. Just wait patiently. It'll find its way back eventually

This Link was the original guide to install Download booster. I'm sure there are updated methods to installing it, so you should search for those. (I followed this guide, but had some issues so I just stopped using it.)
Anyways, follow the guide all of the way to the end. Then open up Rom Toolbox Pro, or similar app. Locate RTBP's app manager, then go to the Settings.apk, tap on it, then go to "Advanced Freeze"
Scroll down until you see Download Booster, tap on it to Enable. (It is disabled by default.)
Reboot phone and it should work... for a little while. For whatever reason mine keeps turning off. I guess I should have used the files that were updated for 4.4.4.
Common sense would indicate this (but I'm lazy) but if I had to guess, Just download the 5.x version of the files indicated in the guide above and then enable download booster in the advanced freeze menu. It will probably work then...
Hope this helps.
P.S. I'm pretty sure you won't have to downgrade. But if you do, I suggest that you refrain from doing so. In the end, it will only be an @$$ pain.
P.P.S If someone wants to smali these files on the 5.x firmware for AT&T I'll see if I can edit/recompile them for download booster. After that I will need the 5.x Download booster.apk and I will try to write a more comprehensive guide.

Make a backup before you do anything
1) Just follow the link I posted earlier, with exception that the files come from a more recent ROM (i.e 5.0).
2)Be sure to copy/install them to the correct location.
3)Then use whatever app that allows an "Advanced Freeze/Unfreeze" and Unfreeze the Download Booster.
*****Example*******
I have Rom Toolbox Pro, so I would open it. Then tap "App Manager." Then scroll down to "Download Booster," tap on it, then tap "OK" to enable.
Then I nav to the corresponding folder, rename old files to "services.jar.bak" and so on, Then paste/move/whatever the new files into the directory.
*****End Example*****
Once again, I should point out that I have had issues trying to use this. The booster would randomly crash, and other times it would just disable the Activity completely, I'm not sure why it did that though... So I just gave up on this until I can find the updated files.

I have the notion to agree with this statement. My Idea was to take a peak at these files and then add the necessary lines to the AT&T packages, to help ensure compatibility. Then bundle in the DB.apk and viola! (Or, at least in theory it should work... right?)
I just need to find the files in the first place. If you can somehow provide a link the the VZW files, I can try work on it... no guarantees of any kind though.

I had some issues with rom toolbox, so i replaced the services.jar with this one https://www.dropbox.com/s/vziudszmba2l9zm/services.jar (I did backup the original) and rebooted, planning on finishing the process with rom toolbox on boot, but i got stuck at the AT&T logo screen until the battery died, i'm not sure which file you were referring to, but i either used the wrong one or you need to activate download booster immediately after replacement of the file, either way i'm going to have to reflash so anyone else be advised. Didn't have a backup sadly, worse things have happened though.

One of the reasons why AT&T has the download booster disabled is because it's not fully compatible with their software. I got mine working a while ago, but had issues with private mode, hotspot, gps, and camera. It just made the phone too unstable, the reason why the original poster as well as the others from that thread got away from it. It worked best on NCE, but after upgrading, there were too many issues that were never resolved.
Hi, I bought a s5 g900a from at&t with android 5.0 about 6 months ago in USA (i am from argentina). Everything was fine untill one day it started rebooting, not in loop, first once a day, then 3 or 4 for times a day, and finally almost every time I opened an app it got reboot.
First of all I want to say that I never installed any 3er party app or any rom, I just had the most common apps like fb, tw, instagram, etc. So I decided to do a factory reset thinking that would fix the problem, but It didnt, after factory and cache reset I used the phone for about 5 minutos and rebooted...
So, second attempt, I looked in sammobile for offcial roms and found v5.01... installed it with odin, no luck, still rebooting...
3er attempt, new rom, now v5.1.1, same problem, it worked almost a day fine and then it started rebooting. Right now my phone is completely useless, it keeps rebooting very often. When I installed the roms I had some problems, I got de "custom" message in the samsung screen, and some others, but I could fix them. My phone is now with android 5.1.1 but not working. Any ideas??? anything else I can try? can it be a hardware problem?
Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry for my lousy english
I notice you say that you got a 5.01 lollipop update from sammobile for the att sm-g900a. Could it be you have mistaken the device I'd and flashed another firmware not compatible with your device. Also sammobile does not have a firmware file other than the 4.4.2 for the att variant. Yet if you did flashed an incompatible firmware and managed to get it to boot, it would mean we might just have a way to switch firmwares. As for your random reboots it might be your phone has some sort of malfunction. Try the guides posted here on the forums restoring your device to 5.1.1 att official firmware. Also please post the exact files you used from sammobile for flashing your device.

You are right, I didnt get the roms from sammobile, only the 4.4.2 to try a downgrade, but didnt work, I dont remember where I got the other files, but they are suppose to be at&t version.
Right now I have installed android 5.1.1, I installed it through odin with the file G900AUCU4COI5. The phone works for a while and then reboots. Now it doesnt have any app installed, its clean and it is still working bad, It also gets too hot and sometimes before freeze it makes a very wear noise!
Yeah it seems the most logical explanation here would be the hardware going bad. As that would explain the device becoming hot from no usage. Try using another battery and taking the SD and Sim card off to se if it becomes stable, other than that you might need to have it repaired.

I already changed the battery and the phone is with no sim and no SD, but still not working. I guess the only explanation is that it is a hardware problem.
