I live in USA but do not have social security number because I am a student, (I am not a U.S. citizen) so I can not sign any contracts with carriers. I really want to buy Moto X and use it with AT&T, do you know if they are planning to sell it for full price?

i literally just got back from the ATT store, they wouldn't sell it to me without an ATT account
The regular price is showing $579.99 on AT&T's web site. That is way too much for the phone considering the Nexus 4 is $350 and can be used on T-mobile without any contracts. If you really want this phone then I would say walk into a AT&T store and see what they can do. Even though you don't have a SSN there may be special exemptions for students.
That's really hard to consider Moto X over SGS4 Google Play edition considering the same price, and people say the camera is really bad
Will have to take a look at Moto X in store today

Look at the review samples or even the "photos" thread here in the X general forum.
You can sign the contracts without SSN, all you need to do is pay a $500 security deposit, they will return it to you within a year if you pay your monthly fee on time.

I went into my local AT&T this morning trying to buy one off contract. They couldn't get the transaction to process though so the manager called support and was told that Motorola/Google are not allowing the Moto X to be sold off contract at launch.
Yeah, they told me that they won't sell it off contract for the first month

i bought mine sort of off-contract. but, instead a month-to-month "contract". pretty sure it would be pointless to buy this phone outright from AT&T. it's entirely locked down to AT&T. until someone proves otherwise, i'm unsure this "GSM" phone will work off their network.
i could be way off...

unbelieveably it is vailable in Future shop, Canad off the contract. I got mine on the release day. Even the future shop sales rep was shocked that usually system would not allow him to sell outright at least for a month...

Not sure if you can get it without a contract, but I paid full price (I and under contract for another year and not yet eligible for an upgrade). I paid full retail, which in the store rang up as $540. Not sure why, since the web site shows $579.00, but I won't complain about saving $40.
BTW - the store I went to said they wont stock 32GB versions in store, they will need to be ordered online. I bought a black 16GB Moto X.
So if I walked into an AT&T store and buy their Moto X full price, will they let me unlock it to use it on T Mobile?

Trying to figure out if the at&t version will work 100%,no drops, on t-mobile network.
I saw a couple post saying that the tmobile version works on at&t and that the 2 version are almost identical *source needed*. But nothing yet saying it works the other way
Reason is I have a bunch of reward certificates and a gift card for Best Buy, I know the att version is a little more expensive $825 vs $770, but i have enough to offset the difference and still make it cheaper.
Why would you want the att version lol, cost more
No original box
No headphones
No download booster
No unlocked boot loader
I have the same question about whether or not the AT&T Note 4 will work perfectly the same as a T-mobile version on the T-mobile network. I don't know why no one has mentioned how much cheaper it is to just go set up a new AT&T account to get the discount at Best Buy. You could buy it for $300 minus the $200 trade-in promotion + $70 in sales tax. So $170, then you have $40 activation + $60 for one month service + $350 ETF after 15 days, then get it unlocked. So the total out of pocket cost for the AT&T version is $620. Why would you buy the $750 T-mobile version, which would be $815 after sales tax. You save nearly $200 after all is said and done. Am I missing anything here? I haven't seen a single person mention doing this on this forum or over at androidcentral.

What does have to do with anything? Ive been lurking around xda since the 1st iphone came out
Well as I said I have a bunch of money in best buy that it would make it cheaper. But, after looking around the att version forum, found out that the bootloader is locked. So im just going to buy one straight from t-mobile, once they get more in-stock
So what if its my first post? I've used these forums for years as a lurker getting info on rooting, starting with my Sprint Epic Touch 4G. I've read all the posts I can on the Note 4, and seriously just wondered why no one discusses starting a new contract to get the phone at such a steep discount. I'm not trolling anyone, although there seems to be way more uneducated/uninformed people on here than usual.

After 15 days into a new contract with AT&T, if you want to cancel your service, you do NOT have to return the phone. To fulfill your contractual obligations, you pay the ETF. That seems to be it. You are stuck with the phone after 15 days if anything goes wrong, and yes, you would have to send it to the manufacturer for any warranty claims. But wouldn't that be the same case if you bought it without insurance anyways?
Back to the original question though, does anyone know of any issues with using the AT&T version on T-mobile once its been unlocked by AT&T? It has band 12 support, but could T-mobile pull some sort of throttling BS for it being an AT&T imei?

It's NOT the t mobile version of the phone, it's their service for some reason.
I get REALLY slow speeds on my t mobile note 4, but when I used an AT&T sim card, LTE was really fast and no PROBLEMS. I can't believe anyone would even consider a NOTE 4 AT&T version....unless they like that $300+ 2 year contract deal.

They want me to pay for month of service plus deposit for the first month total is close to 900 dollars.
You need to find a corporate store. Call t mobile and ask them what is the corporate store in your area so you can buy a TMOBILE phone out right. Or you might be able to do it with phone sales.

Not if you buy it and have it shipped. You can just cancel the service before .Also you haev 14 days to use and try Tmobile
Yeah find a corporate store. I went to a tmobile inside my local shopping mall, and they told me they cannot sell me the phone outright, even though I am a tmobile customer, they told me some bs about they can't sell phones outright if it is within 2 months of release.
Luckily there are several tmobile stores around my area. Went to one and they sold me the last note 4 they had on stock.
PS: if you don't have a tmobile plan that they can link the phone to they will charge you $779 instead of $750
Failed to get one today, tried all three corporate stores in town. Two were out of stock and one wouldn't sell without a plan. I almost got the device at the first location. The salesperson was about to pull a phone for me when the manager stepped in to check on the transaction and stopped it so I walked out hoping to find it elsewhere.
I really need the device asap so I guess I'll get it with a plan tomorrow and cancel as soon as I can. Understand the desire to save devices for customers staying on plans though. It is what it is.

Yes you are right, I did not think of Swappa it's a good place too.
Swappa is another place you can get a Note 4 Tmobile phone.
I sold a couple phones there myself in the past couple years.
Stores are still low on stock so they have every right to reserve them for customers who are upgrading, opening new lines, or using EIP.
You'll have to wait.
I bought one at a T-mobile corporate store yesterday to use on AT&T. I had to buy a pre-pay SIM for 35$ (1 mo unlimited text/voice) in order for them to sell it to me. Wasn't a huge deal - small price to pay for a phone I can root/rom, especially given how locked down the AT&T version is.

I heard of people buying from swappa also getting a bad imei after 3 months... craigslist is the worst - never buy from them,
I have always bought them from ebay and then told tmobile I bought I straight out, and put insurance, then waited 2 or 3 weeks, and said something is wrong, it keeps rebooting, I reset it 3 or 4 times, and please send me a replacement for $5.... then when I get the replacement it has a good tmobile imei.... that is my trick...
I would buy it straight at tmobile and put the cheapest plan they have for 40 days, so u can have the sim unlocked, then goto whatever company u want,

When I bought my tmobile note 3 on ebay... I went to the tmobile store, and had them put insurance on the phone, pay $8 for that...
they asked where did u buy it, I told them on another tmobile store,
I play stupid and say, I didn't put insurance at the time of purchase, and my cousin said put insurance on it, told them that, and they see the phone in excellent condition and they put the insurance on the phone,..
wait 2 or 3 weeks, and tell them u have been having problems with the phone restarting on its own... let them know you already reset the phone 3 or 4 times during the week to see if it solve the issue. but that it is still giving you problems..... can you please send me a replacement phone..
once they send u a replacement phone, they charge you $5, and you send the old one back... once you have the replacement it will be a good imei that T-Mobile sent, and u will never have a problems with imei again.. then u can have the sim unlocked.
I bought 2 note 3's, mine and my wife in march, she still has the note 3... I sold mine for $400 to a co-worker the day after I got my note 4...
I have done that before with other phones also, whenever I buy from ebay... I leave the insurance on my plan. the phone is worth the $8 a month.
I bought my note 4 on the jump for 0 down and the installment plan for $31 and change, paid the taxes for $50 something. all I have to do is pay it off, and drop the insurance to $8 and I can have it unlocked after its paid off.

I went in to a Tmo store today and told them my brother is coming into town next week for Thanksgiving and I wanted to get him one for his Christmas present, which we exchange that day since we are all together. I told him he has Tmo, but that I obviously dont' want anything on there about it so he might find out early. He told me it costs about $10 more and I said that is fine. I said hell I'm paying $800 on his present, what's ten more. I had my AT&T version that I was going to take back with me. I pulled it out and said I bought mine today and love it so much I wanted to get him one too. They were very nice and actually gave me a T-shirt and some other stuff to give him as well. And FU AT&T...Tmo gives you headphones you cheap bastages. Now I'm just waiting for my unlock code and I'll be in business. Always be friendly and happy. I told them once "If you can't then I understand. I'll take him to a store next week. I just wanted to have the actual present on hand". They bit it hook, line, and sinker.
Got mine for my prepaid plan full price at BestBuy.

I ordered mine from Samsung.com and my biggest pro was the $425.00 discount for prior Note 7 owners. I also have a S8+ and from what I've heard the unlocked version doesn't have wifi calling but I might be wrong.
No real cons for grabbing the unlocked version other than native video calling will not work on the unlocked version. Promptness of updates from T-Mobile vs Samsung direct is also something to consider. I'm speaking from the point of view of a stock T-Mobile N8 vs an unlocked N8.

I dont qualify for the discount,. The dumb asses as Samsung just emailed saying the Unlocked version aint gonna ship until October, whereas my wifes T Mobile version will be Sept 14. Cocksuckers, maybe I should just order the T mobile version? BTW all in good faith on my side
pros are the discount but you can also buy the tmo variant from Samsung as well. I almost bought an unlocked one from Samsung but I found out if you buy the carrier variant from Samsung, Tmobile can unlock from the day you receive it even if its financed through Samsung. Now I am betting it will be like s7 and s8 to where you can odin/adb the unlocked firmware onto the tmo device to get rid of the carrier bloat.
now the unlocked normally doesn't mean that much to me because I plan on staying with TMO anyway but I really want a Deep sea blue when it becomes available so I need to resell the one o have. I would wait until the blue is released but I cant pass up the note 7 discount. since I can unlock the TMO device on day 1, it will be easier to sell when it comes to that point. I believe all the snap dragon phones are built the same just have different software per carrier. so If my TMO device is sim unlocked, I can flash the stock Verizon firmware and will look/work just like a stock Verizon device(lte bands, apps etc).

Ok, because you didn't qualify for the discount, it's just weird you're willing to pay full price (and lose $900+) and stick with Samsung. For the TMo deal, the downside for that is adding and keeping a line and having to resell the 2nd phone. If you're keeping to lines anyway (you can port one of your numbers to the new line and cancel the current one where it came from) and you wanted 2 phones anyway. The only downside in your case would be paying in full for 2 phones and waiting a few months to get the second phone's refund (prepaid card) to come in.

Ive currently got 4 lines on my simple choice unlimited plan. Two of the lines are "free" when they did the promo last year, I only pay tax on each of the two free lines.
Its my understanding that to get the BOGO Note 8 from tmo , I would need to buy one on EIP and ADD another line for the "free" note 8 to my account?

Yes, that's correct. Is anyone using the "free" extra lines? If no one is, maybe cancel one of them now, add the line for the promo, then cancel it once the prepaid card comes in. If all 4 lines are in use, I'm not sure if what the line limit for Simple Choice, but I believe you can go up to 8. If that's the case, add a fifth line and cancel it once the prepaid card comes in. The downside to this is you might lose the bill credits for one of the free lines, but $10 a month extra is less than $930 for a free Note 8. Since you're buying 2 Notes anyway from Samsung, just get the 2 Notes on EIP with T-mobile and and pay them off in full once you receive the prepaid card (you can pay one off WITH the prepaid card so you don't have to worry about how to spend it), or keep them on EIP if you were planning to finance with Samsung.

The two "free" lines, If I cancel one, then the other will be charged as normal, that was part of their promo terms and conditions. Or I could just cancel both. However, the lines are useful for me , since one is also used in a Tab S2 international version for voice and data. I remember their prepaid card shennagins, it took T mobile about 9 weeks until I got mine when they did that promo to pay off my ATT contract back when I joined tmo a few years ago. I had to pay ATT about 800$ or so, then after 9 weeks I got a mastercard from T Mobile. Luckily I had the cash at the time to pay off the ATT termination fees , else it would have gone into collections. Left a bad taste in my mouth. As did T mobiles last promo, in respect of the two free lines I got. It took them 6 months to fix billing issues, meaning I was charged $40 per each of those 2 free lines for that duration before credits kicked in. Was terrible. Hence I dont trust T Mobile nor their promos anymore.
I currently have my account and bill the way I like it. Hence getting the phones from Samsung and leaving T Mobile and their devices EIP, JOD shennanigans clear LOL

Yeah, at this point it's up to you whether it's worth all that time and effort to get a free phone.

The bootloader is the same locked one on all the Snapdragon models. Unlocked means carrier SIM unlocked, so you can use it with any SIM card that fits.
I ended up saying screw it and ordering an Exynos version because I hate not being able to customize an expensive piece of property that is entirely mine.

My wife got her note 8 two days ago. I like it but I have a Pixel XL and have all my custom stuff on it. We were both victims of the Note 7 fiasco! She went iPhone 7 I went Pixel. She hates her iPhone so jumped on the note 8... Bouncing all over the house all happy again. They offered us $400.00 off if we turn in a phone like I have a Galaxy 5 I can still keep my pixel and get the note 8 so I might just do it.
I know if you pre-order from Samsung you get the headphones but are there any deals if you pre order from Verizon? I had to do it through Verizon. I hope some deals will come out for those of us who did it through the carrier.

You get the headphones too. On the day you activate your phone you open the shop samsung app to fill out the form.
***Side Note, you could have bought it at Best Buy, still do bill pay and get a $200 gift card on top of the headphones.
I have a emoyee account with Verizon so I can only order through the app or customer care.

As in you work for Verizon or you get a discount because your employer gets that discount? If its the first, I totally get it.
Best buy with verizon only has a $100 off promotion with verizon... sprint has the $200 off.
Verizon also has a bogo deal, BUT you have to activate a new line for it. For a free $1000 phone, we opted for that, and when we pay off my note 8 from last year, we'll cancel the spare phone line.
The bottom line with our s7 edge tradein was $650 with contract monthly payments for 2 Note 9 base model phones... a hell of a deal!

Are those headphones wired or wireless? T-mobile states that they're wireless but the model number appears to be wired, I believe. So which is it? Anyone know for sure?
Does anyone know if i pre-order and do the BOGO deal can i swap one of the phones to another account? I want to do this deal with my brother who is on a different account. I have no problem keeping a new line open for 24 months but will i be able to swap one phone activation (just the phone) to another account. I spoke with a rep and they said it was only within the same account but sometimes they do not have all the correct info.
Anyone know?

I work for Verizon. You should be able to as long as you keep the line open.
