This is my new Blackish Layers Theme, aimed to be simple and clean dark theme while still retaining material look. Do not Flash this in recovery or try to install the apks like a normal apk. You have to have a compatible ROM with layers support and be rooted. You also will need the bitsyko installer app on the play store for my installer to work correctly. Everything else you need to know is in the play store description Is still a work in progress so please report any issues or requests you may have in this thread.

Great work! Subscribed and running theme for the day. Will update with my thoughts later.
Blackish Theme
Looks pretty damn good! I am giving it a try! Thanks
Oh cool! You made a forum thread here, I actually brought up your theme in my ROM thread as I found the theme to be one of the cleanest themes out there.
There is a bug with multiple notifications making the Gmail subject names on notifications are black.
This theme is in my rotation now. I see the issue zephik pointed out. Thanks for sharing your work.
Yea I found a fix for gmail this morning I will have the theme updated tonight with fixes for gmail notifications and inbox notifications, thanks for reporting.

You guys aren't supposed to flash it in twrp. Your rom must have rro / layers support. Google about it.

In several threads I see posts and questions about dark themes. Including me.
I did some trial and error on my Nexus 6 with stock ROM Lollipop, rooted and TWRP.
Installed the Layer Manager of BitsSyko from the play store, created a folder on the internal memory and downloaded some layer apps
Then I installed with the help of the nice Layer Manager a dark layer Settings_BlackTeal_v1.apk and reboot.
Nothing changed, no dark settings on my Nexus 6. But I could change the background of the BitsSyko Layer Manager.
Second trial.
I installed two other layers: Framework_BlackTeal_v1.apk and SystemUI_BlackTeal_v1.apk. and reboot.
Now my Nexus 6 showed the colored bubbles and did not boot (boot loop).
Had to force a boot in Recovery mode and restore the back up with TWRP.
Conclusion
Installing a single layer app did not work on my Nexus 6 with stock Lollipop.
Installing more layers causes a boot loop.
When you want to try layers, make a full-backup first.
You probably need to flash another ROM than stock when using layers. (Available: Chroma ROM).
I think this trial and error could be helpfull for others looking for dark themes.
It would be appreciated when someone explains the meaning of that three characters 'RRO'.

Stock ROM does not support RRO/Layers, you have to use a custom one which supports it.

See what boysetsfire said. If you need a ROM that has layers support, chroma has it and I'm sure a lot of other roms do as well. You just have to go that thread and search for layers or rro

Great work Gmax!
I'm sorry, maybe I'm a dope. I just can't get this installed. I've tried the last two versions. Here is what I've done :
Download the apk
Install the apk
Open layers app
Select layer to install - I select the blackish v2.3
Install layers/preview
Layers app does not show me a preview but tells me it has been Installed
Reboot
Upon reboot nothing takes effect. I don't get it. What am I doing wrong?

Actually i dont have this device. My rom is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572705 for sgs. For porting this rom to vibrant i have just used latest milestone 5 release from sixstrings and added all mods from my sgs rom. There are no such mods that should brake GPS so if it worked on milestone 5 then it should work on this rom. For other things, u guys test the rom and tell me if they work or not.
p.s. I am pretty sure everything will work.
What's different/better/worse about this ROM when compared to other 4.0.4 ROMs like SlimICS and ICZen?
Download links are up in on. Pls give feedback.
Awwwwesome! Well be giving this a try in a little bit...downloading now.

Just flashed, everything went smooth. I really like the boot animation. Just installing my apps fresh from the market now. I plan on flashing the blue theme in a little bit, but I just wanted to run it as is first to see how it went. Thanks for the ROM.
First problem, the update me app just force closes.
Any mirrors? I can't seem to download this from my phone. Would love to test this out and compare to Slim.

Current release is based in m5, I won't be making a b35 based rom as it was a bit more buggy then expected. B36 build will have theme Chooser.

I have within these hours installed the resurrection remix 2.6.1 ROM, and changed kernel to CM 3.0.32, using the the AROMA installer.
I am quite confident that I specifically marked "Pitch Black" during my custom install, but when finished, there where only "Acromatic", "Holo-Red" and "System". So I downloaded and installed "pitch black perfect", but no luck.
Any help will be appreciated.

Ok, firstly you appear to have do e everything correct. This theme won't appear in the theme chooser app. The difference of this theme are not dramatic in appearance, its all subtle.
In the last version, for RR2.6 i found i had to flash it twice, couldnt tell you why! In addition you can wipe caches prior to flashing and again after? This could help with this problem.
Be aware that I have not updated for RR 2.6.1 yet and it will overwrite the problems corrected by west in the systemUI. I will be updating as soon as I get my laptop fixed, having major trouble with it just now

Ok, firstly you appear to have do e everything correct. This theme won't appear in the theme chooser app. The difference of this theme are not dramatic in appearance, its all subtle.

Okay, so i gave it one more shot, wiping all there is to wipe... No luck. BUT!
1) as you noticed, I am NOT using the ROM which this theme is designed for, so that might have an effect.
2) As I rebooted my phone, I have a pin-lockscreen (not the sim-lock) which appears as the very first thing after boot screen. And that was what i would call pitch black. Then in a blink of an eye, the "system"-theme kicks in and changes it back to before i rebooted. (That is, if the thing I see really is pitch black-theme and not the standard "before-custom-android"-theme.
Thanks for your quick respond Tony!

Directions:
Download ROM and place on SD card:
DOWNLOAD
Download stripped firmware ftf file and place on PC (if coming from Android 4.2):
DOWNLOAD
Boot into recovery (Don't know how to do this? Stop now and go read).
Create a backup (I shouldn't have to specify this, but sadly I feel it's needed).
Wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache.
Flash ROM zip from recovery.
Power off device from recovery (if coming from Android 4.2, otherwise go to last step).
Use Flashtool to flash the stripped firmware ftf file (if coming from Android 4.2)
(Don't know how to do this? Stop now and go read).
Reboot Device and Enjoy!
Tips:
Gravity Box seems to cause issues with reboots through advanced power menus or from recovery. This is not a ROM issue, but related to Gravity Box.
IF YOU MUST HAVE SONY MEDIA APPS THEN PICK THEM UP HERE AND INSTALL AS NORMAL APPS

No idea on official KitKat. I've seen serius screenshots and I honestly don't think there is too much cosmetic to get excited about. I've been playing with my nexus 7 lately so I have not focused too much on xperia progress. The n7 is why I put together this package. I like my devices to have similar setups and I'm running the n5 launcher on n7 as well...

many thanks for answer and sorrx for my bad english
hi,
thanks for this rom, impressive of speed and pleasir to use but... ^^
For now (1day + of use) some little issues, not very importante.
1- Probleme of reboot with Gravity box (like you have said in OP) but same issue with xposed reboot option, i reboot my phone with Elixir 2 widget and all work but sometime phone don't boot, he play the boot animation but never start... sometime the phone start, sometime not :/
Expl: i made a backup with recovery (TWRP) and when finish, i restart the phone but nothing, block on boot animation...
strange... have you an idea, solution ?
Question:
I'd like to know if it is useful to install xposed modul "sony 4.3 Bug" or not ?

I use advanced power menu module. Reboot works, reboot recovery works. Any time you use recovery power off instead of reboot. If you ever get stuck in loop then hold power+volume up until you get a single vibration then release. It is gravity box that causes this issue so you may want to address it there.
Sony 4.3 bug module only fixes icon overlap when installing apps. Not a huge deal...

Straight to the point, here is a flashable ZIP of the emoji set from Android 6.0.1.
Pulled from Nexus 6P 6.0.1 factory images.
Tested on Moto X Pure Edition running Android 6.0.
This may or may not work on versions prior to 6.0.
Test at your own risk. And it you do, MAKE. A. NANDROID.
What this replaces/updates:
/system/font/NotoColorEmoji.ttf
/system/font/NotoSerif-Bold.ttf
/system/font/NotoSerif-BoldItalic.ttf
/system/font/NotoSerif-Italic.ttf
/system/font/NotoSerif-Regular.ttf
EDIT: Added updated Google Keyboard 4.1.23104.2431559 (arm64) which displays all emoji selections. This was taken from the 6P factory image and de-odexed. This is for ARM64 devices only!
EDIT 2: Added ARM variant of Google Keyboard 4.1.23103.2419427 for devices that are not 64-bit. This was taken from the Nexus 5 (not 5X) factory image and de-odexed.

So you have to use Google keyboard to view these emojis?
Another confirmation of it working on 5.1.1. Only works on the Google Keyboard for sending. I can look back at old texts and now see the emojis. I honestly don't care too much about emoji, but my brother and a friend wouldn't stop using them, so thanks for this OP!

I'm using a Note 2 also, running a lollipop 5.1.1 rom, and I also get repeated force closes. Someone on this thread has a Note 2 and the AOSP 6.0.1 keyboard they're using crashes for him and me as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/aosp-keyboard-android-6-0-1-r3-t3266333/page2
I wonder what it is about the Note 2? We're all running different roms but the common element is the Note 2 device itself.
The weird thing is this:
I've been using the modded Google keyboard from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/mod-google-keyboard-updated-ios-9-1-t3232213
I uninstall it and then install these new Marshmallow keyboards (this one and 2 others that have come out around the same time). All result in keyboard crashes.
Here's the weird part: I remove the crashing keyboards and reboot. Verify it's gone, no longer in system/app, not in the manage apps list. When I try to reinstall my original keyboard apk it asks if I want to install an update to the existing app, which is weird because the app no longer exists! Clicking on install eventually results in the not very helpful "App not installed" message. Attempting to reinstall the apk using terminal emulator gave a little more info "Invalid URI". I assume restoring my nandroid backup would sort everything out but I can get my old keyboard back by copying a copy of it's installed folder (which I had saved) back into data/app (I never installed it as a system app), manually reset permissions of the files and subfolders and change owner to 1000 - System and reboot.
I have no idea what part of the system thinks the new keyboard is still installed.
Thanks for this. Working fine on my S6
So if I'm on stock MM MXP , do I flash both keyboard and emoji set?

Flash the font if you want to see the new emoji set instead of blank or crossed out boxes when someone uses them.
Flash the keyboard if you want to use the new emoji set (You'll also need to flash the font zip to use them.)

I'm not sure how the layout on those devices are for system apps, but on Nexus and Moto X Style and Pure it's as follows
Code:
/system
--/app
---/GoogleKeyboard
----GoogleKeyboard.apk
-----/lib
------/arm (or arm64)
-------libraryfile1.so
-------libraryfile2.so
You guys might have to move the library files from "/system/app/GoogleKeyboard/lib or lib64/arm or arm64" to "/system/lib or lib64" depending on your device's architecture.

My existing keyboard has the same structure you show above. There is no lib folder in my /system. This package uses the name LatinImeGoogle, same as my existing google keyboard. I just found an empty folder called LatinImeGoogle in data/lib-app. I wonder if that's causing any of my strange behavior.
Hi.
This theme permanently adds the number row to the Swype Keyboard. Doing that it also adds two left\right arrow that allow to move into the text, and it allows the secondary character to be always present on every Swype theme:
- version 1.1 tested with the version of swype 3.1.2.3 (27/07/2017 in the Play Store). It should work also with older version, but i didn't tested. The version 2.0 of the theme is compatible with the version 3.2.2.3 of Swype (tested on 01/11/2017).
- It should work with a lot of languages, i've tried only italian and english (confirmed dutch and german from other users).
- This adds the number row and you can't remove that. In order to remove the number row you have to unistall the theme: advantage of this, you'll get the secondary character using the number row with all swype themes.
- Added the left\right arrows.
For details see this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-swype-row-t3297733
See the attached file for the result.

I can't seem to get it to install. This is my first time with Substratum, so I may have some fundamental error. But, installation proceeds smoothly, but then ends with:
"The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name"
I tried uninstalling, which acts like it works, but installation again gives the above error message.
This is on a rooted Samsung Tab S3, with the Samsung Substratum add-on. Substratum is 815. Ideas, please.

It's the theme that gives error, or the substratum app? Also, if you get the error you shouldn't be able to uninstall the app, because it shouldn't be installed..

First, thanks so much for the original Xposed module and now this "fix" for Nougat. I didn't realize how much I needed it until I became stuck on a Nougat tablet and had to function without it.
This may be info overload, but this is what I'm seeing. I hope you can diagnose. I believe the error comes from Substratum itself, since it says your theme cannot be installed. Don't think I ever get to the theme. In order of events, I get the duplicate package message on first installation, so I figure there's some remnant of the theme so I uninstall it, which seems to work (I know: doesn't make sense if it was never installed). Then I try to install again and same error message.
I'm pretty bad at posting IMGUR pics, but here's an attempt to show you what I see. I select the theme checkbox on the right and then press the "paintbrush" icon at bottom right. It then shows options to install or uninstall. First I install, error; then try to uninstall, seemingly good; install again, error. I've also included a screen shot of the notification that says the theme compiled with no errors.
Should I select, or not select, the "toggle overlays" switch?

So, you get error installing it. Try uninstalling the app (not from the substratum app, uninstall the Swype row app) and then try installing it. It's enough to check the check box of this theme.

Still no joy. I tried uninstalling (via the system app remover) the theme. Retried installation with the same result.
Next, uninstalled the theme, Substratum itself, the Samsung add-on. Rebooted.
Installed Substratum 815 from the Play Store. Launched it and installed the Samsung add-on. As expected, it showed no themes. Installed "SwypeRow_Theme_1.1.apk". All good so far. Substratum shows the theme available.
But installation yields the same failure. I notice though that the system notifications show successful compilation and installation. I've also included a snapshot of the Substratum system settings in case there's some clue there. I appreciate all your help!
I don't know a lot about substratum. In the xposed thread there was an user that was using the Samsung add-on, he said that he did a lot of install-uninstall things before getting all good. Maybe try asking him.

I'm glad Nuance/Swype fixed the numbers + secondary idiosyncrasies, but those arrows that @robertogl adds in his mod are very very useful.
I never could get Substratum to work on my rooted Samsung Tab S3, despite help from the author. So I could never implement the Swype theme. With the advent of real Xposed for Nougat, I reverted to Swype 2.2 and re-installed the old Xposed module. Victory!

@robertogl I know you've moved on to a theming approach, but if you're ever inclined to update the Xposed module, you'd have one happy user here.

I've study the new Swype and I think that an xposed module should be easy to create. Probably easy like a substratum theme. I hope.
I'll think about it.

Trying to apply theme on latest Swype version gives error. See attached txt. Thanks for your efforts

Probably yes, but I don't know when I'll have time for that.
