My droid bionic is stuck on flash mode mode almost dead is there anything I can do

Put a positive and negative from a micro usb cord in the back were the battery is connected and keep the battery in, it should show it is charging as long as the positive and negative are in the correct spots, you can then turn it on into fastboot mode and with the cord like it is battery levels shouldn't matter, but you will need another micro usb connection to the computer to flash an fxz file, make sure if your on job m you need a 98 job fxz ROM to flash. Then follow the fxz flash procedure

[Q] Droid 3 bricked wont charge

So i bricked my droid 3, cant get it to charge, it just boot loops. It wont charge in recovery mode either. Is there any solutions to this, i cant get into clockworkmod recovery of course otherwise this would not be a problem. If anyone could help i'd b so happy. Until then i will be cutting myself with a rusty butter knife in solitude.

What were you doing when you bricked it?

i must have flashed a bad steeldroid 3 rom now just bootloops

Well, then you kinda gotta either buy another battery and pray it has a decent charge or a TBH factory cable.

I tried to root my phone but it froze during the root stage (using Pete's root tools v1.06). Now its bricked.
Background:
D3, recently upgraded OTA to 5.6.890
Tried resetting by holding power button and x- doesn't turn on at all.

thanks for the help, this is what i feared. I guess i was just hoping for some fantastic alternative. I read somewhere that a verizon store could charge my battery, not sure though. What is this TBH factory cable you speek of. Any idea where to get one.

well i read into it, and ordered a TBH factory cable, it was a good bit cheaper than another battery. Thanks to anyone who even took the time to glance at this post. I will post again if and how i get this beautiful brick functioning again. Looks like the cable is the ticket though

If you have a spare USB cable that you don't care if you never use it again:
Cut it in half, and strip the sheath from the cable on the end that usually plugs into the computer
Cut the white and green wires off (or white and blue)
There should be two remaining wires, red and black, strip them so there is just the actual wire (the metal strands)
Now look at your battery, there will be four notches, in it, one will be marked (+) and one will be marked (-)
Fold the wire inhalf from the red wire so it is a bit thicker, and just twist it a bit so it hugs itself, SLIDE THE RED WIRE INTO THE SLOT MARKED (+)
Fold the wire inhalf from the black wire so it is a bit thicker, and just twist it a bit so it hugs itself, SLIDE THE BLACK WIRE INTO THE SLOT MARKED (-)
Use some tape to make sure the wires don't touch each other and are secured in place, then, plug the USB plug into your computer
the battery will start charging, it will take about 2 hours to fully charge, it is almost impossible to overcharge the battery as they have a built in overcharge protection circuit.

Congratulations! Your battery is charged! You can now do stuff that you need a charged battery for.

does it have to be a phone usb or can it be any old usb, im using an old printer usb. will the battery get warm, beacuse i tried it once for a hour the checked to see and its still dead. trying again double checking my connect and tape jobs.

Well, I'm cleaning off my rusty butter knife and putting it in the drawer. There is no more reason to cut myself, this brick be a phone again. Thanks so much for all the help from everyone. Fix it by using the usb straight battery charge trick, then used rsd to flash the swu recovery files(after many failures, then worked with no change in what i did). Anyway i feel i can breathe again, i'd smoke a bowl with everyone who helped if i could.

Charged the battery enough to RSD the files back. Radioshack didn't have any extra batteries or external chargers nor did Verizon. The assistant manager told me to go on Ebay for a battery. The link above saved my life essentially.

Nope, can be any USB cable that has the power wires and a plug that plugs into your computer.

It depends, if the battery is VERY flat, and you have pretty much nothing else plugged into your computers USB ports it may get warm - or if you put it in the wrong slots on the battery.
The flatter the battery, the more current it will require to charge, especially initially.
The less devices on your computers USB, the less of the current coming from the internal USB hub is used. Each power on a computer is rated for 5v @ 500mAh, but there is generally only one polyfuse for all the USB ports on the computer, meaning if you have 12 USB ports in total on the computer you could probably draw 5v @6Ah from a port - not that I would ever recommend this.
The more current, the more heat.
If you put the wrong wires in the wrong slots, it shouldn't matter, the batteries protection circuit (and the polyfuse in your USB controller) would save most mistakes. Generally, the batteries IC will prevent them from providing more than 1A at the batteries current voltage, and using more than 1A, as well as preventing them from going below a minimum discharge voltage (generally around 3.6-3.7v), and a maximum overcharge voltage (4.2v)

Step1, Open the zip with the xml and partitions put them in a folder named XT862
Step 2. Turn your phone on, Hold both Volume buttons while turning on press Vol - until you get to AP Fastboot then press Vol +
Step 3.Plug the phone to your computer by usb while in AP fastboot mode
Step 4. Open RSD lite and select the phone, and the file to flash is inside the XT862 folder you just made, Select the XML file, i believe it will be the only file you can select out of that folder in RSD.
Click START and in about 5 mins your phone will be as new on the latest firmware as of the time of this posting.

Now my whole battery is down The phone is niether booting up nor going to Fastboot....
When i connect my wall charger to phone it goes to Fastboot and something like this appears :-

Cannot Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
On pressing VOL UP + VOL DOWN and inserting the charger it goes to Boot Selection Menu
BUT none of them work

I tried to charge the battery through "cut a cable" method but it didnt quite work......

Hi,
My best guess is that the battery died while you tried to do an FXZ recovery. If that was the case, I think I found a possible fix. Still there are a few other things to be weary of:
Did you:
Try to FXZ to anything other than 246 coming from 246?
Try to upgrade the stock ROM from 905 (GB) to 246 (ICS) without first FXZing to 905?
Try to upgrade to 246 from 905 or anything before 235 by using the 246 FXZ?
Any of those could have bricked your device. Keep in mind not to do those things as you read through this possible fix.
A little disclaimer: This idea is my best guess for how to fix your problem, but I take no responsibility if it breaks something or causes a problem. Please only proceed if you've FXZed your phone before and understand what I'm talking about... If you've been on an ICS Leak after 232 or on the ICS OTA, NEVER flash the 905 FXZ! If you haven't been on the ICS OTA or a Leak after 232 DO NOT flash the 246 FXZ! These instructions will most likely wipe your phone's internal storage/"SD card".
I suggest following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625 ( It's for the Droid RAZR so I'm not sure it will work, but the phones are very similar, so I'd try it. ) Stop at this point:

I strongly suggest that you let it charge to 100% first. Then, if you were at one point successfully on 235-246, flash the 246 FXZ ( Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952040 ), if you never flashed anything post-232 flash the 905 FXZ ( Found here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B26Hj6_2TMNTZ256eV9QbWpBSTQ from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771993 ). BE CAREFUL HERE! Let it finish completely.
This should return your phone to stock. Upgrade to 246 if you used the 905 FXZ and you should be all set. I'll leave rooting to you. Also make sure that if you try to flash Hashcode's 4.2.1 JB you do so in Safestrap 3.05 or higher ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391875 ) and do so in ROM-Slot 1 or you'll have issues ( Looks like he had to make a work-around to get it to boot that requires it to be in ROM-Slot 1 ). Do not flash his 4.2.1 ROM without Safestrap.
Let us know how it goes, and remember to thank vel0city for that post if it works ( I'd appreciate a thanks too though, ).

I'm not sure the battery will charge while bricked (could be wrong) . When that happens you need one of the factory cables that will power the phone regardless.
Can also get a charge from somebody else with a bionic.

As far as I can tell you're right Drunkula, normally a special cable would be required to charge the phone, or as you suggest charging the battery separately of the broken phone. The thread I linked to however ( by vel0city, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625 ) is a manual work-around to bypass the requirement for a special cable. Although that thread refers to the RAZR, I would imagine the same could be true of the Bionic.

Buy a factory cable or factory cable adapter from team black hat. It works just fine. You will be able to fast boot the phone back to stock

I would not recommend this option. While it may work, it's very possible that it may damage your phone. For those that disagree or don't understand why I would say this, my reasoning is that USB provides 5 Volts at usually up to 500 mA standard, while a battery would provide at max 3.7 Volts at a higher current. This is simultaneously giving the phone too high a voltage ( BAD, can cause permanent hardware damage! ) and possibly not providing enough current ( The flash could fail, and you'll be stuck again ). There is also the possibility of shorting ( inadvertently connecting ) two pins/terminals/connections in the phone with the wire from the USB cable.
In short: I strongly suggest not directly connection a USB cable to the phones battery terminals.
I apologize to paradoxed for the blunt response, but the inherent risks outweigh the possible benefits. ( Note to shubhkirti1997: it sounds like your phone is "soft-bricked" which in my understanding means the software is not working correctly ( So it may be possible to fix it without gutting it ), attempting to interface a USB cable with the battery connectors may make it "hard-bricked", as in the Hardware is broken, and no amount of flashing or software modding/fixing will fix a hard-bricked phone.

^^^ This. For people who have a good head for electronic devices, this would be an easy task - but for someone not well versed in electronics, this could be disastrous. A single misplacement of the wires when inserting the battery could damage either battery or phone or both permanently.
jedi's advice is sound - charge the battery externally (I bought my BIONIC from CostCo, they provided an extra battery and an external battery charger) using an external battery charger, or borrow a friend's battery, or buy an extended battery (should come with 50% charge, which is around 65-70% capacity of the stock battery).

I really try very hard to respect the rules on XDA and don't make self promotional posts for TBH, but it's hard sometimes not to especially in view of the litany of items you suggested there. You can purchase a $10 Factory Adapter and never be concerned about the issue ever again for any Motorola device regardless if it has a removeable or non removeable battery or no battery at all!
And we will never be out of stock again...trust me!

Lol, I wasn't even thinking about it from the perspective of self promotion. I just knew an earlier post had suggested getting the Factory Cable already.
Until you mentioned it, I had forgotten that you guys had made the adapter too. Going to buy one *right now*.

I bought a droid bionic on ebay (seller didn't mention that the software is corrupted) now tired to install ICS using RSD 5.7, it installed correctly, but the phone boots up and gets stuck on the "Droid" screen. Nothing happens from there. I can go to AP boot and/or recovery but can't do anything about it. Please help !!!! Searched the web for two days but no solution. I loaded the following file with RSD, downloaded from different site and tried atleast 5 times.

Try to factory reset the phone, you can do that by booting in recovery mode.

ok guyz i after all restored my droid bionic back to its state..........

i took a red neck USB charger and charged my battery for about 1 hour it it got booted up
then i flashed ics using RSD lite 5.7

I know that this thread is pretty old, but my question lies with my droid bionic being hard brick. What I read from the OP wasn't a hard brick and appeared only to be a soft brick. My issue is that I accidentally flash the wrong firmware into my phone following a post about turning the droid bionic into a global phone that I could use any sim with from any network. it was working properly but had some issues with the data network. back to the topic. I flashed the firmware using rsd but since it was the wrong one my system crash and no longer boots at all, the battery at the time was almost 100% so i know it wasn't because of the battery. I even made sure that I check with a battery charger I bought for like 5 bucks. My question is, is it possible to un hard brick the phone and restore it back to working again? I read around about using the JTag method but couldn't find too much detail about the subject. and each article relating to hard brick phones were specific only to that phone. I've search all over XDA to find out if there are any threads concerning this issue and even posted my own in hopes of finding a solution to this issue.

Problem? I had about 5% battery, was charging via my laptop when the most recent OTA update came in. I began to install, as it was installing the phone lost charge and turned off. Now the phone will not turn on and when plugged into the wall simply displays the bootup screen.
All attempts to load into safe mode have not worked
Attempts to have my computer recognize the phone does not work
I came here seeking a less conventional method to repair my phone and some sort of diagnosis.

It sounds as if your battery is just dead, You should plug it in to a charger and let ti recharge for a minimum of 3-4 hours. After this time attempt to power it on. If it fails to start attempt to boot your phone into the bootloader. If you can get in to bootloader you should use either fastboot commands or the program RSDLite to reinstall the firmware. If you can not get the phone to boot into bootloader due to battery issues you may want to purchase a Factory Adapter from TeamBlackHat, this will power your phone directly from the microusb cable allowing you to install the necessary firmware even with a dead battery. You can get an adapter from them a shop.teamblackhat.info.

Let it charge a good while. Even with the dead battery u should be able to get into fast boot tho. Hmmmm weird.

[Q] Droid 4 Jelly bean failure

I updated to Jelly Bean and now my phone wont charge and it comes up in an ap fastboot flash failure, but I haven't done anything to it besides update it. When I plug it into a wall charger it shows the flashboot, while plugged into my computer it just has a green light, not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Droid 4 won't turn on, but recognized by computer?

I have a stock Droid 4 with a mugen power extended battery. Last night I got a vibration that felt like a Facebook notification on my Droid 4. I pulled it out of my pocket and tried to turn it on, but the screen remained black. I tried holding the power button to reset it, but there was no response. I tried plugging it into my wall charger that usually works with a usb cable that also usually works, but even after an hour, there were no signs of life. I tried plugging in the cable to my tablet, and it charges just fine. I've used other cables and chargers, still no luck.
I tried plugging in into my laptop with the cable I normally use for charging and my laptop picked up that a device was connected. I looked in My computer to see if I could access the phone internals, but I just saw a drive letter with motocast, and 2 other drive letters that told me to insert disks in to them. The motocast drive letter had what looked like motocast system files, but that was it. I had an SD card in my phone, but no drive letters that came up when I plugged the phone it let me access it. When I went to safely remove it, I saw in the device manager that it correctly identified that a Motorola XT894 had connected to it, and I safely removed. I've tried doing a soft reset, holding the power down+vol down button for 10 secs, but that does nothing. There are no lights at all, not even when I plug/unplug it from the charger.
I'm planning on going to a cell phone repair place today to have them remove and troubleshoot the battery ( I don't have plastic torx and I'm afraid of short circuiting the motherboard)
I feel that there is some hope for fixing the problem or at least data recovery since windows recognized my phone and I could at least get to the motocast folder on it. I do wonder why my phone is able to be recognized by my computer but still show no signs of life otherwise. Any ideas?
I love this phone, but it sucks with this happening around the holiday season.If it can't be fixed, I'd at least like to get my data off it. Please help!!
Is there any way to fix this? Would physically removing and reinstalling the battery work? Do I have any options for file recovery off my phones internal storage, especially since it seems windows recgnizes that my phone is connected?

UPDATE: Got it to power on and boot normally once. Enabled USB debugging when I had the chance.
Got back from the cell phone repair place this morning. He said the battery was definitely bad, drawing zero amps. He also said he was getting weird voltage spikes throughout the board, and I think he said something about the PCMI power management chip being bad and that the phone was done for. I told him that I could plug the phone into the the computer and it recognized it. He said my best bet might be getting a battery off eBay that would power my phone long enough to get everything off of there. I asked if it could also be USB cord related as I tend to have horrible luck with them. He said it could be and that the reason that I was able to have the phone recognized by USB but not charge is due to different pins communicating during USB connection. I'm including these details so you can gauge this guy's expertise. He did go from saying the phone was done to suggesting a new battery/USB cord, and I was able to power it on after using said cord.
I went and bought a new USB cord and plugged it into my inverter I had in my car. To my surprise after a few seconds, the phone was showing the charge screen with the battery at 70%. It still wouldn't boot up so I kept it plugged in for about 5-10 mins. Eventually it did boot up. I immediately went in and enabled usb debugging. All my data was there. For a brief bit the date and time was off, but even that corrected itself. I played a song from my music collection on my SD card to make sure that was OK. The song played, and shortly thereafter it looks like the phone powered back off as it had originally done. I hooked it up to my computer and my PC started installing new hardware, it said something about xt894(my phone) a couple of disk drives and a CD ROM drive, and something about adb. The furthest they got were as unknown devices, so I disconnected them and reconnected them a couple of times, eventually the install icon went away. It still recognizes the phone and even recognizes there is a storage device with the phone in the device manager menu, but it still says "please insert a disc into drive (letter)" The drive with just motocast is still there, and I think there was another CD ROM that was recognized, said to insert a disc same as the drives. I threw it on my wall charger for a few minutes, but it still wasn't powering on. I then realized that charging it could exacerbate the voltage spikes the guy was talking about, and I didn't want to risk it especially after seeing all my data there, so I unplugged it.
I do have the battery that the extended battery replaced. It had to be pretty much tied to a charger, but it did work if only for less than half an hour. So there is the option of using that to temporarily power the phone.
My new questions are:
Am I at risk of further board damage if I charge/power on the phone? What about charging the degraded but functioning battery?
Now that I know I have USB debugging enabled and my computer still recognizes my phone, how do I go about backing up the contents of my internal storage?
Could this all be effectively solved by just getting a new battery? What about what he was saying with the weird voltage spikes and PCMI chip?

Have you tried it without the extended battery. That could be the culprit of all this going on. If your original battery is bad get a new one and charge it. I had the same problem with a battery till I bought a new oem battery. After I charged my Battery I had to go to fastboot to get device to boot with a fastboot cable. Then while connected to that cable I backed up my contacts. Then while still connected to fastboot cable I flashed stock firmware and started all over again havnt had a problem since.

I'm waiting on an OEM battery to arrive. I was able to save everything off my SD card that was in the phone, so I am increasingly hopeful. Do you have to go into fastboot if your phone is stock? What is fastboot even?

AP fastboot mode is where where you flash stock while connected to rsd lite via usb or fastboot cable. It is part of bootloader. You hold down all three buttons to get to boot menu scroll down to ap fastboot then hit the vol. up button then connect to computer after you have rsd lite active. then flash stock firmware. If you get a battery that doesn't charge have them send you an other one that has happened to me a few times but not many. Remember when you scroll in boot menu you only have a few seconds to pic what you want to do or the device will try to boot.

The OEM battery I ordered finally came yesterday (no thanks to USPS). I tried multiple chargers and outlets with a good cable, and still nothing. I have another non-OEM battery arriving tomorrow, hopefully this one was just a D.O.A battery.

It was probully a dead battery. It sat for to long. If you had a fastboot cable cable you wouldn't need a battery to flash it in rsd lite or just to see if it would boot. There was this one time I had to order 3 battery's just to get one that worked. Sometimes they been sitting for to long being the device was made in 2012.

So your saying if I had a FastBoot cable I could boot my phone without a battery in the phone? Would it wipe my internal data/OD?
Update: I have had a BIN-TEK battery charging for several hours, still nothing. Good cord and charger too. The only other options I have is the extended battery that crapped out on me but powered on briefly, or the puffed out factory battery it replaced. Things are looking bleak

It is so you you can get to fastboot mode so you can flash. It is usable with a low battery or no battery at all. When you first connect it to computer it will automatically start booting. Here is a link for one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K...boot+cable&dpPl=1&dpID=41ep3FoxgHL&ref=plSrch
If it boots to your ROM when you first connect it then you have battery problem. If it does not boot to rom then you should leave it connected and flash stock firmware from fastboot mode witch you will need rsd lite to flash. If it boots after that then it us just a battery problem. If nothing happens then you probully need a new droid 4. Remember once you disconnect fastboot cable device will go off. So don't disconnect until you are done with everything being that you don't have a good battery.

I have a fastboot cable now. Haven't tried anything yet but I plan to today. I've looked around XDA for firmware If I need to flash stock firmware, I found several versions for the Droid 4 here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-4/general/droid-4-xt894-firmware-mirrors-2015-t3004048 how do I know which firmware is correct?
Also, am I good to disconnect the fastboot cable from the PC as long as I am NOT in the process of flashing firmware?
I have ADB debugging enabled on my phone, and last I checked my computer recognized my phone, just couldn't access internal files on my phone. (Had "Please insert disk into drive x" message) Any options there?

You have the right index get the one says
4.1.2 - VRZ_XT894_9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-8_CFC.xml.zip just in case you need to flash. just connect cable and see if device boots if not flash the firmware with rsd lite. never umplug cable unless you want the device off because when cable is is pulled the device will go off.

I connected the fastboot cable without a battery in the phone. Held power button, computer detected it. Said it had found an XT894 and Motorola Network drivers or something like that. Said my installed hardware was ready to use. Noticed in device manager and network connections that Motorola USB networking driver #3 was installed. Under My computer, didn't see any new hard drives. I have RSD lite and the firmware you told me to get. RSD light shows my phone model, imei, software, ect and says that I am connected. But there has been no activity on my phone's screen. No Motorola logo, no menu's, nothing. I would feel more comfortable if I could pull my data off before I flash the phone as I have read horror stories of flashing gone wrong. Is there some way I can access my phone's memory since the computer recognizes it and backup my files before I flash?

When the device is off just connect the device to your machine and it will boot to your rom thats it. It will do it automatically. No need turn it on yourself. If it wont boot then something is wrong with the rom. If that happens and you were running a custom rom and not stock go to safe strap if you had it installed and use that to boot back into stock rom slot. Now you have two scenarios you can use. Do the first one I wrote first. If you Have safestrap installed then do that if it wont boot. Dont forget to have to have the drivers installed for the device on your windows machine. On windows based systems you have to have the drivers installed installed before using rsd lite. Just in case I forgot to mention that.

Sorry for the lack of updates, been busy. Anyways, I got adb installed, plugged in my phone, did adb>devices, didn't show up.I got the newest version of Motorola device managermanager and had it update. Plugged in my phone again, computer said it found an XT894 and Motorola USB networking device, told me to restart my computer. Restarted, tried to see if adb detected it, nothing. It shows up in my device manager under networking devices, it even says the location is an XT894. But adb still doesn't see it.
The weird part is that RSD can see my phone too along with device manager. I'm planning on flashing to see if I can unbrick my phone, however I want to try and backup my files on there just in case the flash wipes my phone.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is safestrap If you had it installed before you bricked the device then you could try booting to safestrap and then mount device in safestrap and copy and paste all your internel sd stuff you want to keep. If you did not have safestrap installed then make sure you have correct drivers for device installed and try the adb command again and see if it reads. I'v been in your situation thats why once a month I now back new stuff up. When I had the s3 I bricked during bootloader unlock. Took me three days with an image file to get it to boot. Then I reflashed the stock and didnt need the image file any more. That was long time ago. i learned to back my stuff up after that. I just thought I would mention that just so you could have a food for thought. Also data will be lost is another reason to back stuff up.
