[Q] Recording videos at smaller resolutions - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I bought the X2014 recently because my old S3 was stolen.
One of the uses of my old phone was to record videos of some classes that I attend and help to manage.
With my S3, I used to record the classes at 480p with H.264 encoding. The file size of a 3h recording was a little more than 2GB.
The features that I'm missing from my old phone are:
1 - The ability to continuing recording onto e new file automatically after the 4gb file limit is reached (so I don't need to check the cam all the time).
2 - The ability to record at 480p or even 720p without having a HUGE file like I'm getting on X2014.
My classes are about 20H long so it's fine to save some space at the expense of (some) quality.
I tried messing with the Camera+ app but just configuring the video size was not enough to improve the recorded file size.
Can you guys help me about these problems?
Thanks a lot!

Have you checked out the Google Camera App?

I've checked that I can make videos at 720x480 (instead of 640x480). And that kind of fix one of the problems
Then, with the google video and an old video from my S3 I've tryed to compare the properties for both. I think that the most important properties are:
X2014
Format profile : [email protected]
Bit rate : 5 959 Kbps
Width : 720 pixels
Height : 480 pixels
Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 30.000 fps
Minimum frame rate : 24.437 fps
Maximum frame rate : 30.100 fps
S3
Format profile : Basel[email protected]
Bit rate : 1 518 Kbps

Height : 480 pixels
Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 30.000 fps
Minimum frame rate : 14.995 fps
Maximum frame rate : 30.000 fps
I don't know if these properties are relevant to the case nor if I have some way to fiddle with the Bitrate...

You could try the Cinema FV-5 app, it is intended for a more profesional use but you can tweak lots of parameters of the video being recorded.
Hope it helps!

If you would use google, you can find everywhere hw decode possibilities of Tegra 2. It supporsts only baseline profile with 1080p and baseline, medium and some hightprofile of 720p video, but no all high. It depends on settings when you encode the video.

Right, the playable video is [email protected], but the not working one is [email protected]
Either
-reencode the video to [email protected] (I think even [email protected] should work)
-redownload a smaller video
-or get tegra 3+ ^^

Gom video converter. Make sure u use bitrate and resolusion like the original video. So u will get video with same size ,resolution, and quality :good:
uh..
the best our o2x can do is playing High Profile 4.0 720p
1080p must be baseline

Can't play H.265 Main10 videos (10-bit HEVC) with HW decoding

Hello everyone,
Just got my OnePlus3T (128GB) (OOS 3.5.4) and I am very impressed with the speed of this device
Sample Videos: http://jell.yfish.us/
3MB/s 1080p H.264 High and H.265 Main work just fine system wide.
But when I try 3MB/s 1080p H.265 Main10 (10-bit HEVC) video,
the video plays with a lot of framedrops in SW mode.
In HW mode, if video doesn't have audio, it will play but with wrong colours: http://i.imgur.com/31SDDEM.jpg
If the video has audio, then the phone freezes for 4-5 seconds, then hard reboots. (The video in question had HE-AAC 5.1)
I tried the above with VLC & MX Player, and I tried all the different combination of settings.
EDIT: With the leaked nougat build, HEVC Main10 video works perfectly (even with HE-AAC 7.1)

Utkarsh Gupta

Use spmc to play the files. Latest is 15.5.3 worked on my phone but my main media consumer is my android box and all HEVC 10 BIT files okay without a problem.

Anyone try 3rd party 4K recording apps for the Le S3 or S2? for higher bitrate 4k?

Has anyone tried 3rd party video recording apps to get higher bitrate 4k video recording on an LE s2 or S3 like the X626?
I know these do 4k recording out of the box, but bitrate is low , probably no more than 35Mbps.
There are 3rd party apps....free with limited recording time....
Cinema 4k
Lumio Cam (switch to pro mode) free but limited recording time...
Wondering if the above apps can do at least 100Mbit 4k recording mode at 30FPS.
Anyone? Thanks

My S7 would do this if I just copied the raw file across, I had to export the slow-mo from the phones video editor and copy that across to have it play in slow mo on PC
EDIT -Doesn't seem to be the case with the P30, just made a Slo-Mo and copied it directly over and it played in slo-mo on the PC fine

The P30 Pro must have just created a corrupted video file.
During playback of your slow-mo vid on your phone, press the burger menu (3 dot button) on the upper right corner; then at the bottom, there is an option saying SAVE SLOW-MO FILE, just click that and save the video
Although this does (once again) highlight the irksome reality of Huawei's slow motion only being 240fps and not the 960fps claimed... *sigh*
