Hello,
I just installed Android Studio for the first time. It seems to want to use JDK 1.8. The latest version of Java is 7.
QUESTION: Why does Android Studio use such an old version of Java?
Thanks in advance.

Java 7 is reported as :
$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_76"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_76-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.76-b04, mixed mode)
The platform is version 7. The release of the software is 1.7. See more about the way java is numbered here.
Where did you see this "The latest version of Java is 7" ?
Just download the latest java and select it in Android Studio.

I think the source code for Android on Intel would be much more helpful, though i can't say how much it differs from the original android source ( https://android.googlesource.com/device/generic/x86/ ) repository, since i couldn't get it to check out & build properly:

Why doesn't Android studio run on Android? I think Google should support Android OS because tablets can be used for Android development. Is there any way to run Android Studio on Android OS?

Technically there is: running a chrooted Linux environment (most likely Ubuntu) on the tablet and accessing it trough VNC. That will sound a little difficult to handle (maybe use a mouse and a keyboard?), but that's the only way possibile as now.
Ciuffy's SM-G900F CM 12.1 spirit hath marked this way.

You can't run Android Studio on Android, but you can use an app called AIDE. You can build complete, functioning Android apps with it. Support is iffy, but it's worth the ten bucks to be able to develop anywhere.

After installing the latest version of Android Studio yesterday, Secunia PSI detects now on an Android Studio folder this allegedly outdated version of Cygwin (see below). How can I have this security hole fixed and still use Android Studio? Thank you for your time!
