Hello,
My HTC one got stuck in boot loop after i tried to update to Lollipop OTA. (the phone is official, never modified it). Red exclamation with error : Can not mount sd card...
The only solution that worked for me is :
- unlock bootloader (htcdev.com)
- installed TWRP (with WinDroid_Universal_Android_Toolkit)
- installed MIUI rom
The phone is working fine, but i want to turn back to official Rom and update to lollipop. What i have to do ?

"can not mount sd card" error is normal, its always displayed when entering the stock recovery.

no it wont work, that guru reset is too old and will boot loop on your hboot when you try to update, follow these instructions, exactly the same for your phone:

sorry, you need the M7_U recovery file not the UL, 1 sec.
in fact, easier way, do this instead:
download the OTA, select install later, plug your phone into the computer and pull the OTA off the phone to your computer desktop, its in the downloads folder on your internal storage.
open the OTA, its just a zip file, inside is another zip called firmware.zip, open that zip and take out the recovery.img, flash that one, thats your stock recovery.

go is settings --> about --> software info.
can you take a screenshot of your software version and post it please.
Looks like you have not flashed the right rom. Im pretty sure it will say 6.09.401.11 but it should be 6.09.401.111 hence the "variant version" error.

You're right. It's 6.09.401.11
What should i do now ? reflash a new backup with TWRP ? Which one ? I'm sick and lost with all theses files/versions.
Thank you in advance.

firmware and software version must match so you must flash the 6.09.401.111 rom not the 6.09.401.11. There is nandroid backup here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/backup-100-stock-6-09-401-111-twrp-t2992871
so reflash twrp
restore the nandroid backup of 6.09.401.111
then flash the 6.09.401.111 stock recovery (available at the same link)
and then take the ota update from 6.09.401.111 to 7.19.401.102

looks like you have flashed the 7.19.401.2 stock recovery instead of the 6.09.401.111 stock recovery....
---------- Post added at 09:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 AM ----------
btw you can use the recovery packed in the ota update.
download the ota update, select install later.
when download is complete plug your phone to your computer, copy the ota zip file from the download folder to your computer. Open the ota.zip (best achieved with 7zip) you'll find another zip file inside called "firmware.zip". Extract this file from the ota.zip to your desktop. Then open the firmware.zip file with 7zip, extract the "recovery.img" file and flash it to your device. Reboot and try to install the ota again.

Good day all
I have been running CM 10.2 on my One for some months. Recently its started playing up so ive decided to go back to stock.
Ive googled the process. Fastboot works OK and see's my One connected OK.
Im having issues figuring out what RUU I should be downloading. Initially I went for RUU_M7_U_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.2
After a number of minutes it failed and said something like it cannot use this on my phone. My phone is a UK purchased unlocked device. Can anyone point me at the correct RUUI should download?
Looking at the fastboot screen I can see that my OS is 2.24.401.8
hboot is 1.54.0000
Please, any pointers to get a stock OS installed and my device booting again.

You can flash this (compatible with your firmware, CID & MID): http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-401-8-zip/
if you want to receive OTAs, you'll need to select "stock recovery" (which will overwrite custom recovery).

If you have unlocked bootloaders then download twrp or cwm and rename to recovery put the file in the fastboot folder.
Then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
this will flash the custom recovery.

Do one thing install a custom rom like ARHD etc. and then S-off your phone using rumrunner.
This is going to be one of those jobs that just fails and all I end up with is a bricked phone.
I am a mac user and was using a windows XP VM to communicate with me phone using fast boot... When I try to push a recovery image XP fails badly and reboots...
I can't boot camp my mac because I'm running without a CD drive and boot camp needs a CD drive before installation.
Any tips on how to get my phone sorted using a mac?

1- just use mac versions of fastboot & adb, i believe you can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
(or google for them)
2- do you care about having your phone "out-of-the-box"? that entails much more work. Can you live with an UNLOCKED or RELOCKED bootloader, and possibly the TAMPERED sign?
3- if you don't care about ^^ (2), then just use the Guru Reset ROM, i linked before.
get adb and fastboot working on mac, then in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> enter recovery
adb push <name of guru>.zip /data/media/0/
then in recovery choose "install" and select the Guru Reset ROM.
Ok so i reloaded the recovery image. Rebooted and hey presto Cyanogenmod 10.2 loaded again. Phone is now working BUT I would still like to go back to stock.
With that in mind I followed your instructions above and tried to load the Guru zip on to the SDCARD. The ADB process finishes and it says its copied the file over but I can never seem to find it whe i load the recovery and try to install from a zip file.
Questions. Am I right in thinking I can continue to load the Guru zip to attempt to get back to stock?
What am i doing wrong?

if your phone is booting up again
just copy the guru.zip to the phone storage from your mac
no need to "push" if your phone is booting up
To confirm, I am now copying the zip over.
Is there a chance of me bricking the phone again or will the Guru zip return the phone to stock and allow OTA updates?

yeah the Guru reset was designed to put the phone back to stock
it uses an Aroma installer .. choose Stock Recovery to be able to receive OTA in the future. but you won't be able to flash any custom roms or Root with the stock recovery
that seemed to do the trick. phone is back stock.
after initial setup t imediately downloaded and installed a small update. rebooted and then asked to download another 4.3 675mb big update. that one seemed to reset the devce to new again. after setup the 2nd time i can see it didnt work as the phone was as if i had just completed the guru install...
thoughts?

did the second update give an error or just didn't take ?
Essentially, my aim is to just have a stock phone with no root for the time being.
So, ive gathered the best way for me to do this is to be able to receive an OTA, install that and then everythings all good.
Forgive my lack of knowledge, im currently running what is a stock rom, with stock radio etc for my phone, but its rooted and so can't receive OTA's. I've read through the large post about getting back to stock and there seems to be no RUU.exe's or RUU.zips for my phone, all i have found is two possibly nandroid's but im unaware if these will work (also something about ruining my touch screen?). The mentioned nandroids are
"M7 CWM Nandroid Backup CID O2___102 3.62.206.1"
and..
"M7 CWM Nandroid Backup CID O2__102 1.27.206.1 2013-03-30"

Option 1:
download this CWM backup.
Flash latest CWM recovery and make a backup of something (it's only to generate the backup folder) then push the CWM nandroid backup to that folder and restore your phone. When restored, you'll need to get rid of CWM and flash the stock recovery instead to be able to install ota updates which can be done by downloading the ota (if any) without installing it. When the ota download is completed, go in your /download folder and extract the stock recovery from the ota and flash it over CWM. Then apply ota and you'll be stock
Or
Option 2: You have s-off so change your cid and your mid if needed and use any M7_UL variant ruu to convert your phone to stock WWE or dev edition. This is easier to do imo.

Thanks a lot for the reply, in regards to option 1, after restoring the nandroid backup, and then flashing the stock recovery.img, what ota do i apply? should my phone receive one in the settings menu -> software updates? or do you mean manually downloading an ota, and flashing it through the stock recovery
thanks

IF there is a ota update available from 3.62.206.1 to X.XX.206.X then, download it from your phone (settings --> software updates) don't install it now, just download it, when prompted to install just choose to option to remember you later. When the download is completed, go to your /sdcard/download folder. The ota.zip should be there. Extract the ota.zip. Inside is another zip named firmware.zip. Extract it and copy the recovery.img to your computer fastboot/adb folder. This is the stock recovery for version X.XX.206.X. Flash it over CWM and after install the X.XX.206.X ota previously download (if there is any available)
Obviously, you don't need to extract the recovery image from the ota if you can find the stock recovery you need somewhere else. You'll need one that match your sw version 3.62.206.1. Sometime a stock recovery that closely match your sw version will do the job.
or again convert your phone to an international sw would be easier and more profitable. Changing CID is simple as i.e ''fastboot oem writecid HTC__001'' and there is a simple graphical tool to change your MID if needed which you can find here. Then flash the ruu.zip.

okay, i installed the stock recovery, and then attempted to flash the ota, it went to recovery, loaded all well, then at the end, a red triangle appeared above the phone, i tried to reboot the phone, it rebooted and now has frozen on a white screen with "htc One" then, "beats audio" at the bottom in blue, the bootup screen essentially, any ideas? let the battery drain?

hard reboot using power + vol- . What is the sw version of the ota? Maybe your phone isn't stock so thats is why the ota installation aborted. You can flash cwm again and restore the same backup gain if your phone don't boot.

It was the OTA my phone received in settings -> software update, I flashed the stock recovery from my pc from another OTA, and then went ahead and installed the one my phone found. Now it seems to be stuck on boot. Alright, I've got into boot loader I'll try flashing CWM, restoring and then see what I can do, thanks a lot
Hi, I'm trying to revert my HTC one to stock ROM. I'd previously followed a tutorial on flashing it to GPE, but I can't find (or more likely don't have the smarts) to get it back to a stock ROM..
It's a 3 UK model, H3G__001, and I have been having trouble finding a backup, but have found a RAR file called M7 TWRP Nandroid Backup CID H3G 001 2.24.771.3 .rar from the HTC1guru downloads page.
Trouble is - I don't know exactly how to restore this file, and despite my best googling efforts, I'm stuck.
Can anyone help with a step-by-step ? ( Sorry I hate to have to ask )

This is the link to the guide. The 4th post is the one which concerns you.
Also, i would suggest that you use this RUU from htc1guru instead of the one you chose:

The one which u downloaded was TWRP Nandroid. But the guide doesnt explain the TWRP Nandroid as well as CWM Nandroid. So, ive given u the link for the easier method

Easy way back to Sense rom is flash the developer RUU here

Ok. I downloaded the linked CWM zip and renamed it ruu.zip for convenience, but when I try and fastboot flash it, I get :
C:\sdk-tools>fastboot flash zip ruu.zip

(bootloader) zip info parsing...
FAILED (remote: 24 parsing android-info fail)

Should I revert to using the linked one in the article ? I was thinking the zip you linked would be a closer match ?
If I go down the route of flashing the dev RUU - will I need to do anything else post-flash?
I couldn't find much evidence of this being a working option on a retail phone - but that may be old info....

you can't flash a nandriod backup like a rom
you have to copy it to your phone's clockworkmod/backup folder then restore it from recovery ... same for the TWRP nandriod .. it must be copied to TWRP/BACKUP/YourPhoneSN/Dateofbackup
Like I said lock your bootloader and the Developer edition RUU is your easy out

Ok. so I relocked the bootloader, and grabbed that DEV .exe updater.
Sadly, it reboots phone into the silver HTC logo, then checks, and starts to update and then crashes. Rebooting and rerunning produced the same results...
I'm on Win8 - would it be OS related ?

If I powerdown then back up - it boots back into my GPE fine.
The Nandroid backup I have is a .rar file - is it ok to unpack and repack as a .zip or can I just push the rar ?
Also I can't seem to now unlock my bootloader again - if I run the flash unlocktoken, the screen asking if I want to unlock does not reappear as it did the first time.
Man, I'm scratching my head a lot - sorry for being a dud.

first boot to recovery and do a nandroid backup
and then boot the phone back up
then unrar your TWRP backup (that you downloaded) to your pc to a folder called nandroid
you then copy this to the location TWRP/BACKUP/YourPhoneSerialno/Put nandriod here
now reboot recovery and in TWRP choose backup .. nandroid should be their
restore it

Magic - that's the phone booting back to stock - worked brilliantly cheers !
Now to try and get the stock recovery etc back lol.
Thanks for your help bud !
Ah turns out it's not quite that simple. Android wants to get OTA updates but when the phone reboots to do it - it enters twrp recovery.
I need to get the stock recovery back also - so I downloaded what I think is the right version of recovery.img but when I try and fastboot flash it - it fails.
Would I need the phone back unlocked for this? And if so - how do I go about it now?

you can either re-unlock the bootloader with the s-off method (guru bootloader tool) to flash your stock recovery or pack up your recovery.img in a firmware.zip and flash it in ruu mode with a locked bootloader.
To use the guru bootloader tool go to this page: http://www.htc1guru.com/guides/guru-bootloader-reset/
save the zip on your sd card, boot in recovery, select ''install'' and choose the guru bootloader tool. This will open the aroma installer. Chose to unlock bootloader. be careful not turning back s-on with the tool. The tool only work with s-off phones.
edit: oh wait! just realized you are on twrp 2.6.0.1. The tool is intended for 2.6.3.3, not sure if it will work...

Ok. The guru tool ran - but I definitely chose unlock bootloader but it hasnt worked.
Can you clarify the RUU flashing business for the recovery ? I figure if I can get the phone to get itself up to date, I can factory reset it to get rid of any odd lingering mods?
does a firmware.zip need anything other than the .img file in it?

Hello.
I'm having an issue with my phone and I really can't fix it. I've tried for a few days before posting here.
I have CWM installed, but I first had TWRP. It's an HTC by Telus, Canada.
So, the problems:
I can't factory reset since it will give me errors like "error mounting /data" and "error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure"
I can't even acccess the sdcard, it will say "E: Can't mount /sdcard" so I definitely cant install a new ROM
I had installed CM 11 but it will never go pass the logo (I'm assuming it can't since sdcard is unavailable)
I tried installing via ADB sideload and I get "* failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)' *"
I'm desperate I have no idea what to do and where to start.
Thanks
P.S. : I don't remember how to output all the information like version-main and stuff, I'd do it with pleasure if someone points it out. And it's S-ON
Ok, issue fixed! A proper RUU worked fine to reset my phone, all good! Still don't know what was the initial problem but now that it's solved I'm happy
the command to post your output is fastboot getvar all, remove serial and imei before posting.
after you have done that, stay in fastboot mode and type fastboot erase cache
the flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 and see if you can get into it.
once in goto - wipe - advanced wipe and select everything in the list, including internal memory and format the whole phone.
you will then have to push a rom of your choice and flash it.

can you check the file size of that RUU you downloaded please, in properties on your PC, it should be 1.5gb, ive just tried downloading it myself and it says completed but its only 148mb, when I tried to run it I go a similar error to what you are getting, just means there is a problem with the site at the moment and will be fixed shortly, you'll have to wait until then to grab the file, just keep trying until you get the full file size.
Last time this happened to this site a few weeks back, he said some hacker in Canada was sending a back door reset to his site every few minutes.
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 PM ----------
found another download site with the same file that you can try and grab it from instead: http://androidruu.com/getdownload.php?file=M7/RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_TELUS_WWE_4.19.661.8_R_Radio_4T.24.3218.09_10.26.1718.01L_release_351500_signed_2.exe

you wont need recovery to flash an RUU, just relock your bootloader, plug your phone into the computer and run the RUU, and no that file is no good, that's why you are getting the error, although it says its complete, you only have 50% of it, delete it and try the other site linked below, androidruu.com

You can use Rom.zip from ruu
When you run ruu see temp folder in Windows it contains some long number named folder that contains rom.zip
flash that zip in fastboot

It happened when i was trying to flash a stock recovery img, so that i could update my htc one m7 with the official update from the phone "OTA_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_EUROPE_7.19.401.2-6.09.401.11_release_4217922wykl17vamtts1919.zip"
I cant do anything from the bootloader, beside i have my" Unlock_code" from past and can get that working allright, even that doesnt unlocks my phone anymore.
All though im able to use my phone, i want to update to the latest version.
So anyone out there in the big world, who can help me?

If you want to update your phone, why are you trying to unlock its bootloader? Do you have re-locked your bootloader with a custom recovery installed? Unlocking the bootloader will wipe /data/preload folder and preventing the ota update to install... I do not really understand what you are trying to do here because you are not giving much information about the actual state of your phone...
Is your phone running the stock rom?
You have relocked the bootloader with a custom recovery?
please post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (remove imei and serialno before posting)

i was trying to update it so i flashed a stockrecovery on it, else i wouldnt be able to update my phone with the OTA it gave me because i had a custom recovery on it before.
All i want is to update my phone with the stock rom, and then unlock it , so i can have a custom recovery again.
i messed it pretty good, so i have no recovery on it now i guess.

i was trying to update it so i flashed a stockrecovery on it, else i wouldnt be able to update my phone with the OTA it gave me because i had a custom recovery on it before.
All i want is to update my phone with the stock rom, and then unlock it , so i can have a custom recovery again.
i messed it pretty good, so i have no recovery on it now i guess.
Its TAMPERED, RELOCKED and S-ON
my "fastboot getvar all" output is:

i can do flash unlock_code.bin, then it just deletes everything and im starting a fresh htc. In bootloader it then says tampered and relocked + s-on, it wont unlock it and even that it is locked, it wont update it to the newest official OTA update (7.19.401.2 / 804.78MB).
When it tries to enter recovery it isay: TAMPERED, RELOCKED and Security Warning , it just goes in the bootloader and not recovery.

do you have a custom recovery installed ?
if so, the only way you can unlock the bootloader is to flash the stock firmware to put stock recovery back on, you cant lock or relock the bootloader with custom software on your phone.
Stock firmware here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473395871
i had custom recovery, but i flashed stockrecovery on it. Must have bricked the recovery somehow, because now i have no reecovery. If i try to flash the recovery i get this, no matter if i try to flash custom or stock recovery:
D:\adb>fastboot flash recover recovery_6.09.401.5.img
target reported max download size of 1514139648 bytes
sending 'recover' (12570 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.519s]
writing 'recover'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 2.767s
maybe because its locked, and i cant unlock it.

yup, beacuse your bootloader is locked, only way to fix it is to flash the firmware, is there anything on the phone internal storage that you need to keep, pictures, musci, documents etc ?

with the phone in fastbootUSB mode and the zip in the same folder as adb and fastboot on your computer, issue these commands:
ps: its easier if you rename the download to just firmware rather than M7_UL_Firmware_6.09.401.11
fastboot oem rebootRUU (case sensetive) phone screen will go black with silver HTC logo
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (first time it might say failed: please flush again) so issue the command again
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
make sure it now says successful at the bottom - this is important
if so then,
fastboot reboot-bootloader
if not report back here first
when you get back to the bootloader, try and unlock it again, you may have to go back to HTCDev site and get a new unlock token.

ok follow these instructions I laid out for someone else if your looking to return to stock, they are exactly the same for your phone as your on the same firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59273464&postcount=4
ps. you dont need to lock or relock your bootloader to update, you only need locked or relocked whilst s-on to flash firmware or run an RUU.

use firmware for when you have problems like you did earlier or if your s-off, earlier RUU's are only if your phone is S-off and saves all this messing around, its full firmware and rom in one package, if you were s-off, then we could of just flashed the corrisponding firmware to an RUU, ran the RUU, you'd then be 100% factory stock, just boot and update from there.
theres a bit more to it than just stock recovery, your rom has to be 100% stock, no root, no custom kernals or anything like that, no removed stock apps.
trouble is, when you unlock the bootloader, it deletes a hidden folder (data/preload folder) its HTC's little way of say, now you've unlocked, you can never update with us again, that backup will put all of that back on your phone.

try it, but I think you'll have to follow that whole post of mine that I linked you too, superSU modifies system files to root, so the OTA may error out.
if it does error, you'll have to start from here "what you need to do is flash TWRP 2.8.5.0 from here:" and follow every step, you wont need that firmware that you downloaded earlier again, just dont lock your bootloader.

same files for your phone, have a look at the version main on your fastbootgetvar all on the first page 6.09.401.11 that download is the same version main, M7_UL_TWRP_Nandroid_6.09.401.11_(inkl._preload-Ordner).rar and this part means it contains the data/preload folder (inkl._preload-Ordner)
