There are 3 Different Parts to Install Lollipop-->
1. Unlock Bootloader > 2. Install PhilZ Recovery > 3. Flash Lollipop 5.1
#1 Unlocking Bootloader---> Go to This Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ser-roms-recoveries-kernels-mods-how-t2908298
1. Download Universal ADB Driver installer from here.
2. Connect your phone and run the Universal ADB Driver installer. Click 'Install' button and a warning should pop up. Just click "Install anyway" and it should look like this:
3. Download ADT Bundle from here for Win-32 Bit and from here for 64-Bit . If you are unsure which version of windows you have just download the 32-Bit one.
4. Extract the zip file in your C:\ drive like this (You can install it wherever you like but this tutorials assumes this location for simplicity). Add adb and fastboot to system path by following this tutorial . This will allow you to run adb and fastboot commands from any location on cmdline.
3. Switch off your phone. Now, Press POWER BUTTON VOLUME UP button for about 5 seconds. A menu should appear. Note: VOLUME UP allows to navigate the menu (move down the menu). Press VOLUME DOWN button for selecting/choosing fastboot. On your phone, it should say something like
Code:
=> FASTBOOT MODE...
Connect your phone to the computer if it wasn't already.
4. Open CMD
5. On command prompt, Type:
Code:
fastboot devices
6. Now, Type the following commands:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot format userdata
fastboot reboot
Now, your bootloader is unlocked.

Hey guys,
So i'm sure this is probably already out there, but I wanted to give everyone my method of success with rooting the latest version on Android (5.0) on our N5. Here it is:
Prereqs: You'll need to have these downloaded first
TWRP - Download to your Computer
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hammerhead/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-hammerhead.img
SuperUser v2.19 - Download to your Phone
http://click.xda-developers.com/api...ainfire.eu/593/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.19.zip
Platform Tools - Download to your Computer
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390355257214632011
Steps
1) Download SuperUser v2.19 to your phone.
2) Turn off your phone, and reboot into the BootLoader by holding Power + Vol (-). Wait until you see the Green Android Robot.
3) Plug your phone via Micro USB to your Computer.
4) Download and Extract Platform Tools in a "New Folder" on your C: Drive. Give the folder an easy name such as "N5" or something similiar
5) Download and Extract the TWRP recovery image to the "New Folder". Rename the "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-hammerhead.img" to "Recovery". NOTE: It may ask you to overwrite the exisiting recovery image (if applicable). Select Ok/Yes
6) Open your Command Prompt (Windows) and type the following: (You can copy and paste if you'd like)
* cd..\..
* cd c:\(Your New Folder)
* fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6) Let TWRP flash to your phone (Should take no more than ~10 secs).
7) Toggle your phone to "Recovery" by using the Voume Up/Down keys. Press the Power button to select/confirm.
8) Once TWRP has loaded, press the "Install" icon, followed by "Zip File", and proceed to the "Downloads" folder that you have the SuperUser v2.19 zip downloaded.
9) Select the zip and confirm by swiping at the bottom.
10) Reboot back to the "System"
11) Done
_______________________________________________________________________________
I tried to be as clear as I could with this write up, so I hope this makes sense. It really is straight forward.
Although I'm definitely not the one who came up with this method or files, I wanted to share what worked best for me to Root my N5 running the 5.0 OTA.
If this helped you get root back or makes sense, give a "Thanks".
Take it easy...
Thank you for posting this. I tried three other methods to get root back before this, and none of them worked. This one did the trick without any problems at all. Thanks again!

What part are you stuck at?
For me, I needed to erase cache for the TWRP to stick. Otherwise, when I rebooted it was gone and was using the default recovery.
Use the command:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
before
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
if you have the same problem installing TWRP.
I used chainfires auto root for the N5 (stock lollipop Boot loader). Worked great. Just download to a PC put phone into boot loader and run the bat file. I can't link but a quick google will find it for you.

Good find. Didn't happen to me, but i'm sure it may to others. Were you all set afterwards with Root?
Personally, I'm using the autoroot from chainfire. Works like a charm, no custom recovery is needed (I have the stock recovery).

Are you running the official lollipop release? It should work with that. Delete the app, and try again.
Just put your phone in bootloader and run cf-autoroot from windows if you dont want twrp.
I have twrp but its not working like that

Had the same issue and needed to flash the updated kernel from chainfire : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655047375
Why are you trying to do this the hard way? Just use chainfire's autoroot.
It works perfect and it's literally one command
fastboot boot CHautoroot.img (or whatever the file name is)
cf-auto-root is the way
I agree, just use cf-auto-root. You should be good to go in no time.
Just for FYI, if you already have unlocked bootloader, it won't wipe your data, if you are concerned.
CF-auto-root roots N5 without modifying your kernel. I believe, if you flash the SuperSU in TWRP, it would modify the kernel. It's nothing bad, but if you want to remain "stock" and don't want to reflash stock ROM later to get the OTA, just use "Full unroot" from SuperSU app and you are stock and ready for next OTA.
I have encrypted the storage on my Nexus 5. Will CF-Auto-Root wipe my storage?

Ok so the method was to unlock bootloader, flash twrp and flash magisk zip.
The other way was using temporary cwm for intel devices using T2 option. What this does is that it gives you a temporary CWM session which can be used to flash magisk zip.

Thanks for the temporary recovery method though. Thanks a lot.
If you are in M-preview-1 and don't want to lose your dat/apps you can follow this guide, after that, you'll havw M-preview-2 installed and a rooted device.
Firstly, you need to have a pc with adb working. There are several wyas to achive that, but I presume that if you are already in M preview V1, you have it.
Then, you need to have an unlocked bootloader, again I assume that you have it.
======Skip this is you have adb and unlocker bootloader===========
In any case, in linux there is a very trivial way to get both things (probably in windows and mac is more or less the same):
In a terminal:
sudo apt-get install android-tools*
Then plug your N5 to your computer with a usb cable (depuration mode enable), check that everything is working fine:
sudo adb devices
Then;
sudo adb reboot bootloader
sudo fastboot oem unlock
Then reboot
========================================================
Again, if you are not coming from M-preview-1 I do not recommend this method
1. Download M-preview-2 from this page.
2. Download twrp from here.
3. Create a folder, move twrp to that folder and extract M-preview-2 to the same folder (no sudir, all the files in the same folder), extract again image-hammerhead-MPZ79M.zip in the same folder.
4. Download Despair kernel in your device.
5. Download SuperSU beta 2.49 in your device.
Now, we are ready to flash everything:
6. Open a terminal and cd to the folder where you keep everything from previous steps.
7. Plug your device using a usb cable
8. Type the following commands in the terminal (if you are not in Linux, use the same commands but without "sudo"):
sudo device (just to check that adb ·see your device)
sudo adb reboot bootloader
sudo fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead-HHZ12h.img
sudo fastboot flash boot boot.img
sudo fastboot flash radio radio-hammerhead-M8974A-2.0.50.2.26.img
sudo fastboot flash system system.img (this step takes a while)
sudo fastboot flash cache cache.img
sudo fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.1-hammerhead.img
9. Reboot in recovery (just using the vol up or down and the on buttom).
10. Flash Despair kernel
11. Flash SuperSU
12 Wipe Dalvik and cahe (just in case)
13. Reboot

Of course II'm still testing, but it seems that there is not new bugs (yet).
All I did was edit flash-all.sh, removed the '-w', then run it Anyone who has flashed the first version will already have the tools installed.
I wouldn't recommend using alternate kernels as they won't be designed for preview 2.

Yes
I just did a clean flash via fastboot manually. Booting now. I ain't got time for issues.
Is there a reason the OP links to TWRP 2.8.6.1 instead of the latest version (2.8.7.1)?
Anyone else having trouble flashing the despair kernel? I'm getting assert failed: getprop("ro.product.devices") (Status 7) when trying to flash. I tried sideloading and got the same errors followed by E: Error in /tmp/update.zip. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. Any ideas?

I'm still transferring my nandroid backup to my PC and haven't tried yet, but it's possible that the kernel won't flash on preview 2 because it's not yet updated for preview 2. As @TonyHoyle said, it's probably not a great idea to use one until they've specifically been updated for preview 2.

can u explain more detailed?
Flashable zip for multirom
flashable zip to use with multirom, please ?
As TonyHole suggested, just remove the -w; basically this will do: (you can do below on a command line as long as you are in the extracted TGZ file and in the hammerhead-MPZ79M folder/directory)
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead-HHZ12h.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-hammerhead-M8974A-2.0.50.2.26.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot update image-hammerhead-MPZ79M.zip
This works for me no issues as data is left intact but everything else is updated ; suggesting NOT to do this from an Android L to Android M Preview 2 and do a proper wipe
This will rebuild the ART app optimize on reboot
OP: Next time make a guide for doing STOCK update FIRST ; save the kernel and root for a SEPERATE post or a seperate section in the post
Hellscore kernel works great
Clean flash
I don't understand why any one would do a dirty dirty install with a preview no less

I am Unable to flash through twrp too.

same here , volte isnt working in this version
got the solution ,
flash stock reovery first , then put stock rom in root directory of phone and rename the rom as update.zip
then from default file manager of phone open that firmware , then you will see update option , after that it will get installed

I don't see the S3 on the list, I think I'm supposed to download the Le 2(Qualcomm) but the version is 5.9. The person who post this thread said he has problem with 5.9, is there anywhere I can download 5.8, which was installed on my phone before I root it.

don't download dev lab version.. It has **** ton of chinese apps that you cannot uninstal.. go here http://forum.le.com/in/eui_list.html. download which version you prefer (16s is stable nd 19s is buggy) download it.
for stock recovery-
rename the rom to update.zip and flash if it does not work unlock your bootloader and instal TWRP
for TWRP-
1) open the rom with winrar -> go to META-INF -> com-> google ->android -> open 'updater-script' using notepad ++
2) remove first 2 line of code and save
3) go to twrp. (if it asks pwd cancel and swipe wipe-> advance dalvik, data, system, cache, ( internal storage if twrp asks for pwd)
4) connect to pc, copy the edited stock ROM to LE2
5) restart enjoy
(or)
if le2 is not shown in pc
4) go to advanced -> adb sideload-> swipe to start adb
5) in pc copy the rom to adb folder -> start command window there ->type this
Code:
adb sideload S2_X526-OS-OP-IIXOSOP5801910121S-5.8.019S.zip
(or the name you assign to it) restart
Errors i saw
A) Status 7 Error
1)wipe-> same as above -> flash @codeworkx sir's 19s bootloader from http://eu.host.erwanleboucher.fr/?dir=codeworkx/lineage/s2/bootloaders
2) thank him
3) instal ROM
B) FAILED (remote: Partition flashing is not allowed) in TWRP
1) open your installed rom. allow OEM unlock indeveloper mode
2) go to fastboot mode
3) in pc adb folder
Code:
fastboot oem unlock-go

Erm, "Chinese dev" doesn't mean anything really. Don't you have a thread link, a github link, or anything in particular? It's almost like saying "Here an app", without really saying where it comes from. Kinda risky... Especially if it isn't the "Chinese dev" that shares it.
EDIT/// NVM, just was the source link... Sorry for that, was refreshing the wrong one...

Yeah just edited my comment, wasn't looking at the correct page... Gonna take a look, might wait a bit before testing.
I went to the source OP provided. It's 30 pages of people saying thanks...so I bit the bullet (after unlocking bootloader).
It works. Just flashed Magisk 13 beta using TWRP provided by OP.
SafetyNet passes with Magisk Hide. Cheers!
it work for me, thanks

When checking your link, I can't really see if everyone managed to test it correctly, Google translation shows some icky stuff in terms of device bricking.

I'm in the same boat, I like that it's done but the fact it isn't open-sourced and is provided by a sketchy Chinese version of a fake Oneplus site (take a look at the lack of SSL for example), I think I may hold off..
Thanks for sharing though OP, hope this might spark what we need to get the official version!

Maybe you need to delete recovery-from-boot.p from your system folder, and the twrp will be permanently

If I had OnePlus 5 I would have resolved the problem inside the twrp, but no device is impossible for me. A complete recovery will soon be released.
The recovery-from-boot.p is the file that restore stock recovery when you reboot your phone (It is in all android firmware)

did you restore your backup, after reboot . If yes, just uncheck boot when you restore and you dont need to format anything when flash recovery or kernel because these thing boot before system . For me twrp work good for me, the only thing is that i have flash supersu and when i want to switch to magisk, i delete all root on supersu app, and then impossible to boot on twrp, even after flash it with bootloader . The trick is to flash stock recovery from folder and then flash twrp .
Thanks
