Ive downloaded and im using the twrp image, which is working absolutely fine through the Xperia Recovery Manager app (unfortunately not free in the Play store) but a good app to have on your ZR's... I renamed the FOTAkernel image and renamed it to twrp.img and placed it in root/system/data/media/0/twrpxperia folder and flashed through the app.. Works abolutely fine without anything else being done... Massive thanks to you all for this..

Yes mate, confirmed working... To test i wiped the cache/dalvik etc and flashed resurrection port including gapps etc...
set the phone up, wiped and flashed again with xenius9's latest build before flashing back to validus.. All working as it should.

i don't understand how to do it. a youtube video tutorial would have been better

Thanks.. How do I revert to original??

If you have used flash tool to flash a stock rom image, follow the procedure to flash the stock rom. When you get to the page in which you select the components to flash, deselect everything except for FOTAKernel, and flash.

Can I use this method to stock rom?

Thanks!

I know it's all based on personal preferences but I was wondering if anyone can give me their opinions on which in their point of view is better? This version of twrp or the current version on cwm. I have done my research on the two but was wondering in the case of the Atrix which do people prefer.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
If you have a lot of files and folders (like I do) you will love the ability to easily browse files in TWRP. In CWM pressing the volume key is a nuisance.
Being able to name the backup within TWRP is also very helpful.
I think CWM is simpler. If your touchscreen breaks you can still flash ROMs.
For the average user TWRP is probably the better choice. I have used it for a few months with no issue.
Thanks a lot
Thank you very much atrix4g18! :good:

CWM? You just flash it. Select the zip like it was a ROM. You don't need to wipe anything.

Just installed with CRW, works like a charm. Thx for the help!

I don't know if there is any huge change from previous recovey...but i feel as a user that is full wipe make this time critical (not ver much). in browsing zip for flashing it always go to root menu...where previous recovery stay on that page where i left. and the lockscreen very much anoying to me....

[L3] [MOD] CWM recovery for e400 [CM/MIUI/SDMERGE]

Hi to all!! I've done a little modification to the original CWM to add support to the secondary partition we use in every CM/MIUI etc...
All is done! Now works without an error of mounting "/sd-ext" due to an "unknown volume type!!" in recovery.fstab.
I also included the recovery for the SDMerge and also a linux script. Sorry, but the archive is too big to post it here on xda so i had to upload it on 4shared.
Requirements:
1) Rooted phone (obviously!!)
Instuctions Windows:
1) Download the package from 4shared
2) Extract it in any folder you prefer
3) Make sure you have USB Debugging on
4) Run "CWM-Installer.bat" as administrator
5) Hit enter
6) Wait, if it takes too long simply disconnect the device and reconnect it immediatly.
5) Enjoy the new recovery!!:victory:
Instructions Ubuntu/Debian/Mint:
1) Download the package from 4shared
2) Extract it
3) Make sure you have the sdk properly installed with adb (if not check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100673 )
4) Run the script by typing
Code:
./CWM-Installer.sh
5) Enjoy the new recovery
The script is for stock roms but it works well even on CM or CM-Based ROMs so don't worry if you get errors, it's normal.
If you want your old recovery back you can open the CWM-Installer.bat with an editor and replace this
Code:
Files\adb push Files\recovery.img /data/local/recovery.img
With this:
Code:
Files\adb push Files\[COLOR=Red]CWMrecovery_orig[/COLOR].img /data/local/recovery.img
or if you want the recovery for the SDMerge just replace:
Code:
Files\adb push Files\recovery.img /data/local/recovery.img
with this:
Code:
Files\adb push Files\SDmergerecovery.img /data/local/recovery.img
And then run the script again.
Feel free to post comments!!

@Cobmaster, could you make similar recovery specifically for data2sdext on stock rom?
I already create similar mod based on this tutorial and it works flawlessly but lack of support from recovery (i.e can't backup/restore from sd-ext)

Are you talking about e405? Or you want a recovery modded to support the partition table in stock rom?
I think I can but I need more specs of the partitioning you use for the sd. I need the specific "/dev/block/mmcblk***" of the partitions in the sd. Nothing more (and a little bit of time obviously!).

it's for stock rom in E400 (E400 and E405 shared the same partitioning system though).
it's the same partition structure created by CWM recovery :
swap -> /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
ext4 -> /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 -> mounted as /data
vfat -> /dev/block/mmcblk1p3
thanks again for your effort

Here it is, to flash it use my script replacing the recovery.img with the one attached and report if it works or not.
Btw, are you sure that the "/data" partition is ext4? Because if it's wrong the recovery doesn't mount it.
Very sorry for the very late reply, I just had the time to test your new recovery (I had to create flashable zip for it since the script didn't work) and it work perfectly.
Now we have alternative to increase data partition without having to edit apps like gellmar's StockMergE400, means it will be compatible with all stock-based rom :victory:
Thanks again @Cobmaster :good:
Don't worry about it. It's very pleasing to see that it works.

How to dualboot KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop on Nexus 5

This is a guide of how to dualboot KitKat and Android Lollipop on a Nexus 5. This will allow you to test out Lollipop while keeping a stable ROM to run as a daily driver. I am running CM11, but you can do this with any KitKat ROM, even stock.
REQUIREMENTS
Nexus 5
Root
Unlocked bootloader
MultiROM
A brain
At least 1 GB of free space (I recommend 4 GB though)
1. Setting up.
I'm assuming you are already rooted if you are planning on doing this. If not, follow this guide to root and unlock the bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211
1. After verifying you have root on your phone, download MultiROM Manager off Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tassadar.multirommgr&hl=en
2. Install and open MultiROM Manager and install MultiROM, Recovery and the patched kernel.
Here is what the following is...
MultiROM: This boots before the system and gives you the option of what system you want to boot. When you select the system, it then hands it off to boot. This will not overwrite your current ROM, but make a backup to be safe
Recovery: This is a custom TWRP recovery with options to install a secondary system
Kernel: This will patch your kernel with kexec-hardboot patch which is requires to dualboot in general.
2. Installing Android Lollipop
1. After you install and verify that MultiROM is installed on your phone, download the Android 5.0 flashable zip from the downloads section at the bottom
2. Reboot into the recovery and go to Advanced> MultiROM> Add ROM
3. When you get there, set ROM type to Android and select "Dont share" for kernel sharing and then press next
4. select ZIP file and install "N5_L_PREV_LPX13D.zip" you downloaded earlier and flash it.
If you wish to not root L, you can go ahead and reboot your phone into Lollipop (The first boot will take several minutes). If you do want to root, go on to the next step. Your primary ROM won't be touched as your primary ROM and its root status won't be affected when using MultiROM.
3. Rooting Android Lollipop (optional)
Rooting is completely optional and is not required for it to run. You need to install root if you do plan on using root apps or busybox on Android 5.0.
As of the LPX13D build, there have been changes made in the bootloader that will prevent SuperSU or root from working. If you want to root on the LPX13D build, you will need to flash this bootloader: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2jkx7a/
1. Download the SuperSU zip in the downloads section and save it to your phone.
2. Boot into recovery and go to Advanced> MultiROM> List ROMs and select the L ROM you installed earlier (unless you renamed the zip file or the system name, it should show"N5_L_PREV_LPX13D")
3. Select flash zip and flash the SuperSU zip you downloaded.
4. Reboot and you should now be rooted.
Updating Android Lollipop
As of right now, there are issues if you try to do a dirty flash from DP1 to DP2 (These are issues with Android L and not MultiROM). These issues include home button not working, quick settings pulldown not working, no lockscreen when there is one and data issues (at least with Sprint). If you are coming from LPV79 and updating to LPV81C or LPX13D, it is recommended to do a clean install to avoid these issues. If you are doing a fresh install, you don't have to worry about this issue
Android Lollipop Bugs
These are issues with Android Lollipop and not MultiROM
-The issues stated above when certain things don't work after a dirty flash
-During the inatial setup, the phone may freeze and require reboot when trying to connect to wifi (seems like a new bug with LPV81C). The phone will say Connecting and show a white box before it freezes
-Some apps will crash or be buggy (this is to be expected though with the transition to ART)
-More bug reports can be found [Here]
-A list of apps that have issues with working with Android L can be found [Here]

Strange. I didn't have that problem but I will look in to it. I recommend going to advanced> MultiROM> list ROMs and perform a wipe of the cache and dalvik of your L system. I was able to download without problems and the internal storage worked fine. Also, how much space was there on your phone before doing this

Yeah, you need a kernel that has that patch included to be able to use MultiROM. There are a few of them if you look around.

L does sdcard differently

Strange. I didn't have that problem but I will look in to it. I recommend going to advanced> MultiROM> list ROMs and perform a wipe of the cache and dalvik of your L system. I was able to download without problems and the internal storage worked fine. Also, how much space was there on your phone before doing this

I had about 11gb of space before doing this. I just wiped cache and dalvik but still same issue, no files in sdcard folders and can't seem to download anything

Just wondering, what is your baseband version. I'm just thinking if it may be a firmware issue for some reason. Also try ES File Explorer to see if your files show up in it because my files in sdcard appeared with it

I am using ES Explorer but no luck
My baseband is M8974A-2.0.50.1.13
When I tried to take a screen shot, I got an error saying cannot save screenshot, storage may be in use. Any idea what the deal is?

Are they empty if you try to open them in KitKat? Also it looks like your baseband is out of date. I have the baseband M8974A-2.0.50.1.16. I recommend updating your baseband to see if it fixes it. Also what is your primary ROM

It's not empty when I open in KK.. I'm running SlimKat
I'll try updating my baseband and see if it helps. Thanks for all the suggestions!

If all else fails, I recommend just trying to reinstall MultiROM and the patched kernel and remove and reinstall L. Also select CM11 when you install the patched kernel since the CM11 kernel should be compatible with slimkat

Yeah I think I'll just try starting over.. Nothing seems to work. I basically don't have any access to storage when on Android L as my secondary. I can't even take photos lol it takes a pic and can't save anywhere

There have read people in the Android L thread that have had this same issue. That's why I always thought dual booting with Android L wasn't a good idea.
Got some help from the multirom thread.. Followed the below and it worked fine. Had to reinstall Android L afterwards tho.
1. Install terminal from play store in Android L ROM.
2. In terminal: "su" *enter*
3. In terminal: "restorecon -FR /data/media/0" *enter*
4. Wait.*
5. Reboot.
*If it doesn't boot anymore, delete Android L as ROM, and flash it again trough multirom.

Slimkat is AOSP/stock kernels.... Not CM11/caf. ?

Thanks for the correction. I don't use slimkat so I thought it was using the cm11 kernel.

go into recovery and "push" (adb command) for example a new os or working framework and copy it to your system partition.

Okay, so this is what it says.
Symlink: Some symlinks failed
E: Error executing updater binary in zip.
Used TWRP from RR rom v5.4.0 and got the same error.
I also tried flashing with old Twrp. It didn't work.
Fixed for Rom zip

I checked: my zip upload is old script-updater
TO fixed:
- download script-updater below and rename it by delete .zip
- Use 7zip on your PC to open rom zip and follow path:
omni-5.1-20150330-dogo-EXPERIMENTAL.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\
- Replace updater-script in zip by: Drag new updater-script from Explorer to zip
- Done!
Sorry for my fault!

Its all okay, mate. Its how things progress.
Also, thank you for providing the steps for the fix.
I tried them just as you mentioned (exactly word to word) and this is what i got.
Formatting /system
Mount: failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system at /system: device or resource busy
Symlinking
Symlink: some symlinks failed
E: Error executing updater binary in zip
Tried with some variations and still got the same message.

I tried it, again.
Checked that the system is mounted and flashed the Rom.
This time its able to extract the system but some symlinks still fail and the error is still the same (E: error executing UPDATER BINARY in zip)
I deleted the extension (.zip) from the file you uploaded before using 7zip to replace it.

I'm not sure if it was my mistake or TWRP had problems while installing.
I flashed TWRP 2.8.5.0 (Uploaded by you previously) and tried flashing again Omni 5.1.
This time it worked.
