First I want to apologize for the double post (post in General)
I used odin to get froyo on the Captivate. That worked fine. When I try and root 2.2, the phone froze and now it won't get out of recovery mode. I have tried every combination I can think of to reboot the phone short of throwing it down the street, but I cannot get out of recovery mode. I am also unable to use the power button (ok key?) to select anything. I can use the volume keys fine for up and down.
One of the errors says:
"(Unknown error: 0) ensure_root_path_unmounted++
ensure_root_path_unmounted (/mnt/internal_sd)
ensure_root_path_unmounted ret 0
unmount(/mnt/internal_sd) attempt 1 (unknown error: 0)
Install default apk-files. finished.
Mind you, I have already tried to put the rooted 2.2 files on the sd card, but still to no avail. Any suggestions? I am really hoping this phone isn't rooted.
So you have a european firmware? Which one is it?
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
I just fixed it. Reinstalled the firmware with Odin and it's working fine now. Thank you.
dude how did you do that.. I have the same friggin issue and I can't fix it. I'm stuck in recovery mode all the time, as soon as I plug the phone in to charge, or plug it in the computer via usb, or push the power button, the damn thing goes into recovery mode and stays there. I can use the volume buttons to navigate up and down through the options and if I hold the power botton down long enough the phone will turn off and back on again. But if I press the power button once (as in select an option) it doesn't do anything. I tried every single option out there to get into download mode with the battery out and usb in and volume buttons then put bat in....etc nothing works. I need to get into download mode
anyone?................

What he said. Plus, I have had it happen sometimes that no matter what I always reboot into recovery. At that point I just adb reboot download and re-flash.
ok thanks. I know I said I have tried everything before but I wasn't completely truthful. I did try ADB though, but I don't think I was doing it right. I downloaded the SDK thing and started a command prompt from "start menue, accessories, and command prompt" but when I type the command "adb reboot download" nothing happens and the command prompt disappears. I don't have much experience with ADB, is there anyway you can give step by step instructions on how to do this? I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
I found this thread on here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517874" but still didn't help me much. Everytime I type cd c:\Android or any other command I get The system cannot find the path specified.
Here's what I do. After you download the sdk. There is a folder called tools. I copy that to c:
Then opencommand prompt and type,
C:
CD tools
adb reboot
Or, adb reboot download
Of course make sure your phone is connected via USB.

thanks I'll try that when I get home. I think this might take care of the problem, because I did keep the folder on the desktop and did not move it to C: folder. Although when I plug in the phone via USB, I still can't establish connection between phone and computer, but I will let you know how it goes after I get home tonight. and I did find some stuff about ADB through google so I might be able to do something with it tonight.
Thanks for the help though
Download odin one click, remove the battery, open odin, replace battery, hold down both volume buttons, and plug the usb cable in. That should get you to download mode unless your 3-button doesn't work.

Hi, so I did all that heres a copy and paste of what I did and results I got

operable program or batch file.
c:\android-sdk-windows>cd tools
c:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb reboot download

I guess it can't be done because the device is not initiated to begin with

Find the tools folder in the SDK you dowloaded and extracted, I found a shortcut to it scroll over the tools folder, hold the shift key and right click on the tools folder then choose open command window here.
When the command window opens type the command ADB shell then hit enter, then type adb reboot download then hit enter with your phone plugged into pc. This always works for me. You can always change the path by moving the folder directly to your c drive but this will work for you for now.

Adb recovery adb download ....on and on.....
My wife seems to have corrupted her internal SD card, absolutely no idea how. She was bone stock, not even rooted. I could not get stock to even boot past the boot animation, so I tried one of the GB 1 Clicks and boogs KJ3 kernel to get CWM, now I can boot to the launcher, but it bootloops from there. I don't want to format the internal SD until I can get her pictures from it if possible, so my question is: is there a way to get the pictures off, if they even still exist? I have tried mounting in CWM and all i get is a lost directory, now I can't even mount USB storage.
Boot into recovery, then use adb to pull from /mnt/sdcard
Don't need to mount with adb.
Just tried this, I get an empty directory. Tried using adb shell and still showing an empty directory. Any other thoughts, or am I going to have to reformat?
Ouch....I think a format is in order.
sorry man
Well I got it to boot with the kk4 1 click and it runs, but the gallery is empty, so I assume I'm hosed. Any thoughts on cause, she says that earlier she got a message in the notification area about removing her sd card (she has no external, just an internal)?
Try this
Set your screen timeout to the max. Reboot y your phone. Keep touching the screen, don't let it go to sleep. Keep doing that as you pull everything from the phone.
About adb
If you don't set a destination folder in your command, it won't pull. If she's on 2.1, you don't use the mnt part. Place a folder directly on your c drive, so that it's address path is c:\your folder name
This makes your adb command
adb pull \sdcard\ c:\your folder name
Do all of this without letting the phone go to sleep. Maybe it will work for you.
Adb pull /sdcard c:\your folder
Forward slash on phone, backslash on pc.

Yeah, your right.
Appreciate both of your input, but now adb won't even recognize that the phone is attached in the stock kk4 1 click, even in recovery. Like I said the gallery is totally empty and my USB storage on the about phone shows that all of the storage is available, so I'm gonna guess it's all gone. I'll try flashing one of the custom kernels for kk4 just to give it one last try, but I'm not holding out much hope here.
How are you trying to connect to your computer with adb? All you have to do is turn usb debugging on and plug in. open a command prompt terminal. Any of that sound familiar?
There should be a "my files" app you can explore the sdcard that way.
Pictures are in DCIM/camera folder.
the stock 1 click did not have a usb debugging option. Got it to work connecting with samurai 1.4.3, but the directories are showing empty or nonexistent.
Studacris,
You must have been posting while I replied. I've used the my files app and it shows dcim as empty. Now, my wife has decided she's gonna give up on the phone since this was her warranty replacement after her first 1 completely bricked after our daughter played with it. Never could get that one to even boot, although, I've found that this one won't boot to download with a jig, have to use the battery pull, vol +/vol -, insert usb cable method.
Thanks again for the attempts, but I think it's a lost cause, so I'm giving up.
Flash it back to stock and get it replaced again.
I tried to load the advanced menu mod and the phone wont go past the startup screen. I can get into TWRP but I don't know how to get a rom to the SD card when it wont mount. Funny, I've been doing the ROM thing for 4 years now and have never used ABD so I don't know how that works or if that's what I need........can someone please point me in the right direction for getting a ROM on my phone so I can flash in TWRP?

Bootloader was unlocked long ago via HTC Dev. All-in-one wasn't out when I got the phone ...... I just downloaded that, but when I try to ABD sideload it opens up a CMD prompt that says C:\Users\myname\desktop\HTC is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Also when I enable ABD sideload in TWRP on my phone it hangs at "Starting ABD sideload feature..." and never does anything.
Try push instead of sideload

Sorry, I don't know how to Push, can someone give me quick instructions?? or point me in the right direction........XDA has become so huge it's actually a mess to search..........I appologize in advance.
Type "adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/ROM.zip" replacing ROM with the EXACT name of the ROM file and including the .zip piece on both ends.

Download these files: http://d-h.st/RvD - call the unzipped folder with the four files 'android' or something and put it somewhere, either directly on your c:\ drive or on your desktop
Download a rom and put it in the folder along with those files you download
Select 'install zip from sideload' in recovery on your phone
Hold Shift and right-click on the folder and select 'Open Command Window Here'
Command:
adb sideload name_of_rom.zip
once it reaches 100% it should begin to install on your phone automatically.
Or you could
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/
this will put the rom on your sdcard and you will need to flash it normally. (you don't select 'install zip from sideload' for this)

Ok let's make this easier. Go to where your ADB/fastboot files are, shift right click on empty space and select Open Command Window Here. Then type push name_of_rom.zip/sdcard/
name_of_rom.zip should be changed to whatever file name your ROM is that you want to install. If sdcard doesn't work, try /data/media

Are you right clicking on the folder and open command window here?
Reboot your computer...
Shift+right-click, Open command window from folder
Go into fastboot in your bootloader and type
fastboot devices
If your device appears then go into recovery and type
adb devices
If your devices doesn't appear then there's something wrong with your drivers/adb files or folder
If it's found then just do a push or sideload...
The only thing I can think if it doesn't work is buy a usb otg cable and put the ROM onto a usb and flash it through TWRP that way.

After rebooting for a cyanogenmod update which failed to install, my phone will not boot into Cyanogenmod - only clockwork.
I have precious data on the phone that I need to extract, mainly pictures.
ADB only recognizes the phone as "offline" and I cannot pull any files from it.
Any suggestions? Thanks a lot guys.

Do you have a nandroid backup on your phone?
Also is all your drivers properly set and updated on your cumputer? Can you post a screenshot of Windows devices manager with the phone info?
Are you using the original usb cable? Some usb cables only have GND and 5V pins (no data). Also be sure to use usb 2.0 and a usb port directly from your motherboard (not in front of your computer) and don't use any usb hub.
Well I got it recognized by ADB now.
What is the file structure like in order to pull files from the phone?
What commands can I use in ADB to pull the main sd directory?

maybe you can find here

Thanks man. That helped.
If anyone ever finds themselves in this situation, make sure your SDK packages are updated to the latest Android OS version. This is why ADB was recognizing my device as offline.
Also, running the command adb pull /sdcard/ C:<somewhereonyourPC> will pull all the data from your HTC one.

oh nice to see adb pull /sdcard/ C:<somewhereonyourPC> was the right syntax
For the sdk packages you should always make sure it is updated before doing anything to the phone. Same for drivers. An ''adb devices'' and ''fastboot devices'' won't hurt before messing with the phone to make sure everything set correctly.
Now I presume you'll be ok to flash your rom again?1

if you can somehow blind navigate your way to recovery then you can just pull the contents of the internal storage to your adb / fastboot folder on your computer.
adb pull /sdcard/0/ ------- (thats a zero)
or
adb pull /sdcard/0/Music to just pull your Music folder etc, change to Pictures or DCIM etc, the first command above will pull everything.

Was thinking about that, but it's hard to get to recovery. The guy who changed the screen somehow damaged the buttons but when I connect the phone to the laptop, I get an bip, that the phone is connected.
But the problem is that I get an uknown device notice and when I wan't to update drivers, I get an error. Is it maybe the problem USB 3.0? Should try with USB 2.0?
Hmm...will go mad .)
Any idea?
