[Q] Would this even be possible? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really dislike the fact that the Note for has a very cool (I mean, it makes my slightly cool iPad look warm..) screen calibration. Is there anyone who'd even know how to add this to a Kernel for CM12? (not stock touchwiz) would be cool to warm it up a touch and get that eye hurting blue under control (I know it's not that bad for most, but I'm really sensitive to minute details like that.) Figured I'd at least ask. Also, I'm working on my first "custom" ROM. Essentially I want to bring back some of the helpful features that touchwiz offers within CM12. QUICK SOMEOME SCREAM! Haha I know the point of CM12 is to get rid of that, but the point of AOSP is to enjoy open source freedoms. So far I've gotten a few stock apps running as well as some other customisations

I know of many apps for that. The issues with apps is that they run on top of the system. A kernel tweak would give you optimized adjustments. Essentially setting the display natively vs actively updating it. I hope this makes sense. I had an app that did that, but the constant running meant that it inherently caused the system to be stressed more. (Now this app could do much better, and please let me know if it does, but the app I had used an unnecessarily high amount of RAM for what little it was doing.) In my mind it would be simpler to just warm the display up natively from the kernel. Also (Full credit to whoever did it) I would be able to post the ROM file already modified like that without needing to make that app a system app.

Looking for a nice LOCK SCREEN

I have rooted my phone and am using CyanogenMod 4.2.14.1
I was wondering if there are any interesting lock screens I could use. My criteria:
1. NOT the ones in the marketplace, have tried them out and don't really like any of them
2. FREE - this is a minor request and definitely not something I want to pay for (heck I've already paid $400 for the phone!!)
3. relatively easy to install. I managed to root my phone with SPL 1.76.007 which took a looong time and was difficult so I know my way around it. BUT, I am not willing to take any risks. I don't mind flashing something, but, that's probably the extent to which I want to take risks.
The screen itself:
1. Simple but with useful features, such as music changing ability, battery status, etc.
2. Some sort of password/lock code (not essential)
3. Background image
Thanks!
then stericson's lockscreen seems to be the one for you.

might have to dig around a bit to find the latest version
cmupdater
Have you looked the cmupdater themes? I am using the grey-white lockscreen and it is clean, sleek, and have gotten a lot of people wanting me to root their phones now....

How do I get the themes? I'm actually using this in the themes directory (of cmupdater): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377 to update my kernel on my phone whenever CyanogenMod is updated.
So, where can I get themes from and which one would you recommend.

boot into recovery and flash it on top of your rom
Thanks it worked.
Are there any other options? This one isn't bad but it seems a bit useless to me. Bit odd that you have to press a button to see the battery when it's right there on top!

Nope that's pretty much it. I know hero and eclair roms have a different lockscreen but they don't work for 1.6 roms. Only other option is to flash a hero/eclair rom or get one from the market. If you want one like the iPhone then get lock 2.0. Its not half bad.
I like having the battery button on the lockscreen. The battery on top gives some indication as to howmuch battery you have left but I like knowing exactly how much life is left in my baby lol

Thanks for the response.
Not unhappy with this one per se, but, it just doesn't do it for me.
Lock 2.0 is actually pretty good but I'm in Singapore and I don't have access to the paid market (which in the long run is a good thing!) and the free version has too many restrictions. I can't even add a background.
My main thing is I want a nice clock and background and battery display. This Stericson one does all that but it just feels a bit "meh" to me. Not sure why, not blown away ...Guess I'll survive!
If anyone knows of anything (theme or lock screen) to spice things up do let me know!
email me [email protected]
Does anybody know of a theme or something to make the default lockscreen
transparent??
use lockbot on the market, its pretty good. theres a free version and its still good

[Q] can't install apps

so i dropped my heroc the other day when getting it off the shelf so that i could create/port something for this phone, sense i was getting bored with my evo, and after i dropped it i picked it up and checked to make sure everything works but only thing that doesn't is installing apps
any suggestions for fixes besides replacing are welcome

If you really wanted to do something useful, you would get into improving our current driver situation. We have an open-source camera driver (which wraps the OEM camera driver) in the CyanogenMod tree, but it needs work, especially on the camcorder side (camcorder doesn't focus at present).
There's also still a lot of work needed on the GL side. We have the libgles_qcom.so file from previous ROM images, but it isn't 100% compatible with Gingerbread (missing textures in Quadrant, etc).
The YouTube player sometimes plays audio-only when viewing "HQ" videos. I suspect this is due to a missing video codec and/or related to the above GL issues. We need work done on various codecs.
There's plenty of work to be done in kernel space. The 2.6.35 kernel posted by s0be is significant progress, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Personally I would like to see more optimizations done on the kernel side because these will benefit all ROM images.
There are also various bugs in CyanogenMod that shouldn't be too difficult to fix, such as notification power widgets disappearing when changing themes. Check their issue tracker on Google Code to find some easy things to fix.
It would be awesome to see a fully-working 2.3.4 ROM image that was 100% AOSP and had completely working drivers. It would certainly make future development much easier and provide a nice base to build other ROM images from.
...oh, wait, that's right. You just want to "port" "tweaks"/themes/nonsense. Try fixing what we have right now before you give us more half-working junk.

[ROM][4.4.4][Unofficial] AOKP TF701T [06-27-1014][Nightlies]

Just wanted to share an unofficial build of AOKP for our TF701T's I did for myself.
Special thanks to Team AOKP for their wonderful rom!
Disclaimer: You flash it, you break it, you fix it. I will be update the builds weekly or so as new features are added into AOKP regularly.
Flash the same as any other rom. Use current Banks Gapps.
Known issue: I have enabled the glcomposer in the build.prop because the overall smoothness and battery life is greatly improved. However, because ASUS hasn't updated past 4.3, there may be occasional graphical glitches. You can disable the glcomposer by removing the one line in build.prop containing glcomposer in it BUT do try as it is first and see the difference for yourself. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and the graphical glitches are very small and barely noticeable.
Examples of where to see smoothness include: Scrolling homescreens. Swiping pages in App Drawer. Swiping pages in the widget drawer. Swiping away notifications while on homescreen. Swiping down notifications and quicktiles while on homescreen. Swiping to Google Now page in GEL launcher.

Excellent work. Very fast. No graphical glitches so far that i can see. Lets of options.:good:
It's great to see another ROM option for the tf701t! I just tried this out. The graphics really are quite smooth, and I love all of the customization options. Alas, as with cyanogenmod and cromi, Bluetooth functionality is severely diminished -- a mouse barely moves the cursor at all and a keyboard has severe typelag making it unusable. Any idea what's going on thereand how to fix it? I'm happy to be a guinea pig.
Awesome, glad to see other people trying this out!
I will post weekly build updates as often as possible.

Im amazed how smooth it is. I guess this shows with this tegra4 theres still room for improvement which is a good thing.
It's very nice. The camera doesn't crash, and I the current version of Netflix doesn't crash. With some roms I've had to use 3.0.

Not a mouse, but I had another bluetooth keyboard, so I paired it up and gave it a try. Worked perfectly fine with no typelag :/ The one that doesn't work is a combo keyboard/touchpad. I don't think xda will let me link to a product on amazon, but it's a "tp cromeer" branded case with builtin bluetooth keyboard/touuchpad. Made for the N8000, but it fits the tf701t quite nicely.
Any idea why just this one device wouldn't work?

I actually have a mini combo keyboard touchpad I can try tonight.
My guess is going to be some sort of silly device incompatibility though...
I dont have any problems with this inexpensive bluetooth keyboard.
I do find though. I dont know if its possibly the kernel or android itself or if too many apps are running in the background. Input in general and reponsiveness is lost completely until reboot. It starts to lag all input I think. Like touch sensitivity etc. I wonder if anyone else has found this on to be the case on this device. Not sure if there is some app thatll restore it by killing processes possibly. Another thing I notice is that Android is running tonnes of threads. Compared to the few that run on linux. 600+ on android. Less then 100 threads on Linux usually depending on the distro. This rom right now has 900+ threads showing in htop. But it is still smooth as butter. Maybe thats not a big deal then.

It happens on all roms, but it would be a very subtle thing. I dont see it really as a problem. Just something that requires a reboot.

Yes -- I know exactly what you're talking about I think.
On any ROM I've tried, it happens. A fresh reboot always clears things up, but after running a few apps (and / or putting the tablet to sleep overnight perhaps?) the whole system lags a bit. General stuff, like switching programs and running apps like Tapatalk and Engadget (for example). I'm forced to kill apps manually, and that sometimes does the trick.
One thing I tried out yesterday that seems to be helping -- give this a shot too: in your developer settings, you'll see that you can restrict how many background processes are running. Currently, I have background processes limited to just 2 at a time (and also "strict mode" enabled)... and I have to say, I'm noticing a difference! Might take some more testing to see what the pros and cons of this are, but if it just means that I don't have background processes piling up on me, this might be a workaround?
Aside from that, has anyone tried Greenify with good results?

Honestly guys, I don't see this issue using this AOKP rom...I've left it for a few days no reboot, and I don't see any slowdowns/lag.
On a brighter note, I have a new build ready to be uploaded tonight.
I messed up some merges for battery/charging and was struggling to sort it out the last couple days.
All good now.
New build will be up later tonight.

Apparently can do some of those changes in Xposed. I don't use or recommend Xposed as it breaks a lot of other things. Most logcats we see with problems show Xposed as the culprit. Xposed should only be used with stock as it breaks a lot of rom mods.

Magisk Manager Redesign

Okay, here we go...
Hey!
After about a month of endless cycle of try & scrap designs I think I'm ready present my redesign of the Magisk Manager. At this point I have covered every main screen that you (user) will come in contact with, now it's time to start implementing (or rather rewriting) code from the old app to the new one.
Don't get me wrong, I'm far away from from done; but! I have a sneak-peek of what's to (hopefully) come - considering John will ultimately accept my pull request, lol.
Rationale:
I'm an android (app) developer by occupation and I use Magisk almost every day. I love my work and everything I do, so I decided to help John with a redesign - so the app is less generic and additions (as far as features go) are easier to implement with less of a boilerplate. I have no idea if anybody would even care about the redesign so I would love to hear your thoughts!
At work I'm kinda more appreciated as a developer than a designer so I was never actually allowed to design any production app.
Structure:
The apk is work of about 10 days and roughly 40 commits.
It's mainly written in Kotlin (yey!) with a help from databinding, which makes everything much cleaner.
On top of that I use a "framework" which is actually more of a anti-boilerplate collection of libraries (jetpack wrapper) for all Android stuff - such as activites, fragments, viewmodels and interaction between them. (Can't post links since >that's whatchu get for mainly using reddit< I guess.) Nevertheless bye bye recyclerview and viewpager adapters, bye bye littering code with animations and other UI stuff.
Warning:
Few of my friends reported that the app is marked as malicious by Google Play Protect, maybe because it contains johns original package name + "debug". I know what it looks like, new user, no posts, malicious app warning. Meh. It's not, build it from source, inspect it on GitHub if you don't trust me.
Also it contains Manifest permission for connecting to the internet - this is not implemented yet and does not connect to anything. Everything you see is offline mock data or your own installed apps. Again, inspect source if you don't trust me.
It might crash on APIs<21 due to some unresolved xml setters and usage of vector resources. I'll fix that once everything else is done, don't mind that.
Some visual bugs might occur, refrain from reporting it please.
This is just a preview. DESIGN PROTOTYPE

Well, tell me how you like it!
What really bothers you in the new redesign that could be changed for the better?
What do you really like?
And yeah! almost forgot. I was wondering if redoing preferences would be better or worse. Do you prefer standard (support library-based) or entirely custom (with the super fancy dialog ripped from Android Q that you can preview while selecting Dark Mode in settings)?
I really like the redesign of the app. You should definitely get in touch with the Magisk dev to take it up a notch and implement it in the official app.

Thanks I appreciate that!
I was trying to but he seems to successfully ignore all of my PMs here or on Reddit. I can only imagine how much spam is he getting so I don't blame him

The whole app does not work yet see OP. This is just a design prototype.
Hiding will be probably somewhat tricky, I have no idea how will the new code features reflect in john's hiding mechanism.
Check PM mate, sent the code for your download to be a word link :good:
Honestly I feel in love with the design. I think John should adopt the design. You and John together can make some more modifications and bring this design (or improved) into official versions. Nice work bro, highly appreciate it.
Looks really nice, very in keeping with the new oneui. The newest official is really dated looking with too much advertising. Looks like a dang NASCAR lol I themed 6.0.0 for myself and just used that apk since pure black or pure white
Hi i just install the app on my rooted pixel 1gen running android Q i like the design but i dont know why i cant see the modules and should i uninstall the original magisk app ?

I know @topjohnwu doesn't really enjoy the app development part of Magisk, so having someone improve on it is likely gonna be appreciated. But, you absolutely have to make sure that you do not break features like hiding the Manager... That is a key feature that has taken a lot of work to implement and has to work.

Sorry I just meant the links etc on the home page.
I use adaway and haven't seen an advert in years ?? this is my effort on v6.0.0 (pic) no previous experience in android at all, so not too bad ?

I think "should adopt" sounds like you'd force him to do so. That's not what I'm trying to do though I can only propose and it's completely up to him whether he accepts it or nah.

As far as I can tell, the hiding mechanism relies only on renaming package name within the system so the app should be just fine. Reflection that is used within my version will probably not be touched.
But I'd be sad to scrap the whole work if the hiding does not work - nevertheless if it pulls through with the community (and it seems like it) I'll make my absolute best to make the transition as seamless as possible. That's why I created separate module which can be built alongside the current version for (hopefully short) transition period.
My intention is of course not to break sh*t, but to improve on design and functionality of current app. Would be really d*ck move to do otherwise, I think.
I just did this in art app, changed the green header/footer colours to black and white and put radio buttons instead of checkbox. The colour scheme looks a little more like the oneui. You could maybe get a hex colour picker and get the proper colours and do it more professionally. Keep up the awesome work by the way.
Omg this is fancy as f**k
If this would also allow us to use AROMA like on flashfire am i totally in! Great Redesign!
Oh damn, this is beautiful redesign! I love it very much.

I would guess he's probably taking about the social media links at the bottom of the main screen. Which are not actually advertising anything but linking places to access support and updates.
