[Q] RUU Question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm about to buy an AT&T version of the HTC One to use on T-Mobile, the reason being is that that AT&T version supports the newer 1900 MHz LTE that T-Mobile is using in my area while the T-Mobile version of the phone doesn't. If I flash the T-Mobile RUU will that disable the 1900 MHz support? Sorry if this is a stupid question; I'd just like the T-Mobile firmware so I have WiFi calling, etc.

Nobody knows? Everything I've read says flashing the RUU would be safe, I just don't know about the radio part if it will disable the 1900 MHz LTE support.

it's not a simple question.
anyway asking this to HTC directly(htc support) would hep you

I'm pretty sure their answer would be flashing a T-Mobile RUU over a AT&T phone is an unsupported operation and will void your warranty. I guess I'll have to be the guinea pig
I won't have the phone until early next week probably, I'll post back what happens.

Got the phone, and it works perfectly
Here are the steps I took for anyone in the future who wants to use an AT&T HTC One in a T-Mobile area that has 1900 MHz / Band 2 LTE:
1. Unlock and S-OFF bootloader.
2. Change CID and MID for T-Mobile (TWRP and use MID Changer 1.01 or SuperSU + there is an echo/dd command.)
3. Flash hboot 1.57 <- Very important, earlier versions don't support the encrypted rom.zip that the T-Mobile Lollipop RUU uses. Save yourself hours of debugging and hassle like I did until I figured this out (Google was useless for this.)
4. Run the T-Mobile Lollipup RUU (or whichever version you want.)

What CID and MID? Is it just SuperCID and PN0713000? I have SuperCID (11111111) but my MID is PN07120000. Currently on hboot 1.61, radio 4T.35.3218.16. I want to get the T-Mobile RUU so I can get better reception (my dad gets one or two bars where I am, I get none), but I obviously don't want to brick my phone.
Edit: I'm running the RUU without having changed anything. I am S-OFF. It seems like it's working just fine, it went through "checking CID/MID" without a problem and is going through the process without a hitch as yet. I'll update once it's done.
Edit2: SUCCESS

Will changing the CID have any effect? It's not hard since I'm S-OFF but I'm just wondering. I'm still not getting a signal (for reference, my dad's phone is an HTC One X, AT&T variant, mine is an HTC One M7 from AT&T, m7_ul).

check your APN settings, and so you know you may be limited to just edge data service with t-mobile on the at&t htc one .. your missing the 1700 band that t-mobile uses in most of the country

Well, it seems like all the places I get 4G LTE are on AWS. According to the coverage map I should be blanketed in Band 2 LTE but I've never seen it connect.
Back to the old drawing board... I've seen some stuff about editing NV variables but none of the software seems to work; says it writes the variables but they don't stick.

Yeah the AT&T phone does not have the 1700 AWS Band radio so no amount of software / firmware flashing will help.

You've got it kind of backwards
I'm trying to enable the 1900 MHz band, the 1700 AWS band is working already (LTE Band 4 is 1700 AWS in the specs you copy/pasted)

I flashed the Developer Edition RUU and still nada on 1900 MHz. At this point I'm not sure if the phone just doesn't support it even though it says it should or if T-Mobile's map is way off or they've updated it before actually deploying 1900 MHz LTE.

[Q] Using 4G on Sprint HTC One when GSM is enabled

Hello,
I recently acquired from ebay a used Sprint HTC One M7 for cheap because the guy couldn't unlock it.
I followed all the tutorials and guides here, and got the phone unlocked, TWRP recovery and SuperSU flashed, S-OFF, and a custom rom (Viper) flashed on it successfully.
I am from France and my network operator is Free.fr. I used both the *#*#4636#*#* and the Mobile settings to enable GSM and the phone, SMS, and 3G data are all working properly.
However, my operator allows for 4G LTE as well and I would like to use it if possible, while retaining the use of the Phone itself (making calls, texts etc).
The way it works for Free.fr is that I have to login on their website, and enable 4G manually. The server will then check if my phone has 4G LTE compatibility and enable it if it does, but everytime I try it tells me my phone is not 4G ready.
Is there anyway to do this? A guide or tutorial out there perhaps?
edit: more info:
It seems I need 2600 MHz frequency for 4G to work with my operator, could it be that the Sprint version cannot handle this? Any solutions?

Yeah :/ the Sprint HTC One only supports the 1900MHz for LTE. There aren't any solutions afaik, unless you might want to do a hardware mod, and doing hardware mods on an One is near-impossible.. so you're out of luck.

Hi, could you share your experience of sim unlock the device?
my phone is on 1.57 hboot. I s-off it and RUU to 1.19 firmware. Android 4.1.2. Then I install latest TWRP and Super SU 2.0
Then I download the "sprint htc one sim unlock helper" , select sim unlock.
phone reboot. select " GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" in *#*#4636#*#*"
Now when I insert my AT&T sim card. it pop up to select carreir, I choose "AT&T", I also choose "GSMUMTS only" in network moode. Also set up ATT APN.
now iin Phone indentity, I could see my phone number,
But there is no signal for the phone at all...
Could you told me your way of doing the sim unlock? Thanks.

[Q] Sprint locked M8 har/kar edition in Europe S-ON

Hello. I've got a Sprint locked M8 har/kar edition. I have intention to use it in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately it came with updated software version and firewater didn't work. Rumrunner installation looks like goes fine - says me to wait 30 seconds, pray and turn on my phone. Did this twice and boths times my phone was actually turned on when this message appears. Bootloader stills shows me S-ON.
I did unlock via Htcdev, Root, TWRP 2.8.0.6 Unofficial. Installed the Viper. I think Ill try Bad Boyz aswell very soon.
Code:
ViperOne M8 2.4
htc sdk api 6.25
prl version 51101
kernel [email protected]#1
baseband ver 1.08.20.0612_4
build number 2.16.654.4 cl357420
Bootloader says
Code:
tampered
unlocked
M8_whl Ship S-ON
HBOOT- 3.18.0.0000 ; (((
RADIO- 1.08.20.0612_4
OpenDSP-v45.2.2-00542-M8974_HM.042
OS0 2.16.654.4
Now I'm stucked on getting S-OFF on my lovely device.. The problem is my phone doesn't want to hear about any sim cards, in this state.
I've saw something about sim unlock but I am not sure does it could help me as my sim works on any device. Or it's meant something else?
These frequences are used here.
Code:
2G capabilities
GSM 900, GSM 1800
3G capabilities
UMTS 900, UMTS 2100
4G capabilities
LTE 1800 ( still not in use at all)
I would like to beg for your help! I am stucked. I would purchase sunshine, if it's the only S-OFF option for me, but I am not sure would S-OFF unlock the device in order to work with any sim and am I going to have additional troubles with band frequencies or not.
Thank you very much for your kindness!

Thank you very much for your answer! I still have doubts is s-off 100% required to make my phone work on these frequences and other than Sprint network? My main target is to start using the phone, S-off is on second place 'for me. The second topic doesn't say anything about s-off, but I have still not tried it, because I am not sure do I have to flash this with TWRP or? If so, after reboot there will be installed program called terminal emulator in which I do the rest? Thanks again! ) :fingers-crossed:
p.s. A good question asked by a colleague - does imei unlock code (those who has to be bought) will also make the phone work on these frequences or it will only unlock the device but it still would be unusable because of band differences?
Is it required any sim be inside the device when using firewater or rumrunner? Is it a problem if it's inside?
Regards.

In order to SIM unlock your own phone you need to be S-Off. I don't know if unlock codes will work or not and from what I read Sprint tells you it has to be on a Sprint network to send it an unlock code. I suspect the person that sells the unlock codes would be able to tell you if they can unluck the Sprint variant of the M8. When I unlocked mine (I'm S-Off and follow the instructions in the Bad BoyZ thread) I wasn't able to get the 2100 band to work until I followed the steps in the Enabling 3G (UMTS) in all the countries thread in general.
To me if it were a matter of spending ~15 euro on Firewater or ~10 Euro on an unlock code I'd do Firewater. S-Off is easy with that and the SIM unlock took about 2 minutes after that. That route also gives you the ability to enable to 2100 band if you need it.
Hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for your clear answer! Unfortunately it's all about the money ( i don't have). Today my bank informed me that my account is closed due to no recent activity and the money i was waiting to receive are gone.... paypal - 0.01$.
I have installed Bad Boyz Rom with my current hboot and radio, which looks absolutely the same as the touched one from bad boyz(I've got the red text). The phone restarts after 1-2 minutes maximum. When i start supersu says no library installed do i want to install and after this restart... So i flashed ViperOne again. My question is - does the hboot makes this problem and if i flash to his touched hboot is it reversible afterwards? Would be there problem to use other roms with same hboot&radio?
I think the problem could occour from supersu and the rootings privileges it needs. I have used a toolkit for rooting while i was stock (it installed superuser). May be my rooting is not that good or something is happening.. ViperOne has no problems.
Thank you!
I unlocked my phone but as written before you have to be s-off!
There is no way that you can use your phone without S-off, and if this not worked:
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Then sunshine will:

Sorry but ~USD25 is the price to pay..and there is no way around it.

AT&T to T-Mobile question, HTC One M7

If I'm currently on AT&T and want to give the phone to my wife who is on Tmobile......
And I have S-Off, CID 111111, phone rooted and all that good stuff.....
And I have ARHD 81.0 installed.....
Do I need to do anything special in order for the phone to work on Tmobile, or can I just select Tmobile as my carrier when doing a clean install of ARHD 81 since CID is 111111, it would work on Tmobile wouldnt it??
Thanks

it will work as a phone, question is the data and MMS
the APN settings will have to change and theirs a good chance she would be stuck with Edge (dialup speed slow) Data. Where I'm located only a t-mobile phone will get 3g and 4g and the AT&T phones get Edge data service from T-mobile.
The AT&T phone is missing a radio band necessary for T-mobile high speed data

[Q] Trying to painstakingly make my Unlocked M7 work on Verizon from T-Mobile

I understand that Verizon LTE allows for GSM phones now. I've upgraded to the M8 so I decided to give my friend on Verizon my old Unlocked M7 (his phone broke and he has a Micro SIM card, specifially a LTE one from Verizon.)
Background info:
When I upgraded to the M8, I kind of just left my M7 abandoned on a dusty shelf (I know, what a terrible person I am.); SIM card still inside of it and everything. The first problem I ran into was that the IMEI of my M7 is still apparently financed... Specifically on my T-Mobile account. I don't know why. I got it from some guy who had used it on AT&T and it worked perfectly. I assumed the IMEI finance thing was some kind of a false positive seeing as even with my old SIM, it has no service. Unless T-Mobile is really screwing me over (which I read is a problem with Unlocked T Mob phones).
I went ahead and popped my friend's SIM card in and it could read his number and all the APNs and what not (I assume that's all stored on the SIM?), but, alas, there was no kind of service. When searching for service, it only found T-Mobile and AT&T networks.
After many hours of tinkering with it to get S-Off, I decided I would change the CID to VZW__001 and the MID to PN317000 (each, respectively, the CID and MID for Verizon HTC One devices). I assumed that if I gave it a Verizon Hboot with a Verizon radio img that it might get service. After I did that, I ran a the stock Verizon 4.4.3 RUU and it failed to do something with the system (I dont rememeber what the error was, but I'm guessing the System partition was rejecting it due to it being for Verizon phones or something). Then, finally, at the end, it got to the rcdata part and failed and came up with an error that said something like "something error: 54 partition is too large". I tried to reboot only to find that I had soft bricked it. From there, I flashed the firewater hboot for the Verizon M7 variant and it fixed the soft boot, however, after flashing the newest TWRP for Verizon phones, it seems there was no OS that would boot despite the fact that something was taking up about 1.2GB on the system partition. I attempted to flash the unofficial CM12 for Verizon variants and it kept failing to mount the system partition, which was weird because it wipes just fine and you can even repair it (as long as you do it before trying to flash the ROM). Now, I decided I would flash the TWRP for the Unlocked variant and download CM12 for M7_UL. It installed fine and boots fine. Up until it gets to the point where it shows the homescreen. Launcher3 stops responding and the phone immediately restarts. That's where I'm at now and I'm unsure if the phone will ever even work on Verizon. I feel like my phone is having an identity crisis and can't figure out what the hell to do with all these mixed carrier signals. In it's heart it knows it's an Unlocked phone... But it knows why it must become Verizon. Yes, I just personified a cellphone.
Anyway, is all this futile or is there actually a way to make the damn thing work on Verizon LTE?

Are you sure? Afaik, Verizon is CDMA and will only works with CDMA phones.

What do you mean by financed? Is the IMEI clean or is it blacklisted? If the IMEI is blacklisted your phone will never connect to a network again.

Is your old SIM still linked to an account? If your carrier gave you a new sim for your M8 they probably disabled that one. If not disabled that could confirm your IMEI is blacklisted

You can not convert a GSM HTC One to a CDMA variant, there are some hardware differences and not even the same partition table. On aa M7_U or UL you can only use M7_U or UL MID (starting with PN071)

Same here, 1 step closer to a hard brick --> do not flash firmware from an incompatible variant on your phone.

Verizon variant doesn't have the same partition table. /system of a GSM variant is partition mmcblk0p35 and CDMA variant /system is mmcblk0p37. So you are flashing /system in /data. Use only rom compatible for you variant.
Now, I decided I would flash the TWRP for the Unlocked variant and download CM12 for M7_UL.

It installed fine and boots fine. Up until it gets to the point where it shows the homescreen.

Might be caused by your twrp version (refer to cm wiki)
Maybe because your partitions are now corrupted, should restore your CID/MID and flash a full M7_UL ruu at this point.
I feel like my phone is having an identity crisis

I wonder why....
In it's heart it knows it's an Unlocked phone...

Not exactly. In its heart, it knows it's an M7_UL and no amount of flashing stuff will make it a M7VZW
Restore your phone with a M7_UL RUU and bring it to Verizon and see what they will say about GSM phones on their network.

Your M7 is GSM and Verizon is CDMA, not sure if it should see any network with a Verizon sim card and afaik, sim card of CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint only are for LTE connectivity only.
Same again, if your phone is a M7_U/UL only use a M7_U/UL recovery

Verizon uses GSM for LTE phones, the only problem is (and I just figured this out) that Verizon decided they don't want any phones that didn't come from them... so doing what I'm doing is never going to work since it isn't a Verizon branded HTC One (I'm guessing that's why they made subtle hardware changes, those bastards). However, their phones *should* work just fine on other carriers (cause other carriers aren't whiny babies that don't want unbranded phones on their network).
That bit about there being different partitions for Verizon is prolly the reason why all this doesn't work.
Screw you, Verizon, for being so over protective of your devices.
Screw you, T-Mobile, for never properly taking my old M7 off my account (They were probably butthurt that the phone was bought from a 3rd party).
Guess I'm just gonna have to sell it as an awesome MP3 player.

Yes they use GSM signals for the LTE but it is also well known that they have to put the phone on their network for it to work. Also the Antenna in the device has to be able to use their signal bands. Mainly as GSM is only a secondary antenna in the device. The fact that it was not taken off your account has nothing to do with it. If the 3rd party didnt pay their bill then the phone gets blacklisted. Nothing can be done there.

Flashing Roms For Other Carriers.

So I am under the impression reading around on here that even if I SIM unlock a sprint M8 and try to use on T-Mobile' network it wont work. Or maybe to be more exact it doesn't get 4G ect, and will be super limited. Well someone told me that is because of the ROM being carrier apecific and since they M8 is the same for all carriers you can flash a T-Mobile ROM on a Sprint M8 and it will work just fine. Is there any truth to this?

No it is not. You can only use cross variant stock roms if you have super cid and s-off too. Still i would suggest you to look for more clear answer but as far as i know if the cid and mid of your phone doesnt match with the software version you want to flash it wont do any good.
It's my understanding that you must use a Sprint compatible ROM, even if you are Super CID and SIM unlock for use on another carrier.

Never do that .. Even though you can flash tmobile rom on sprint , BUT NEVER FLASH A RUU . flashing a gsm ruu on cdma device will brick your phone .
Flashing t mobile rom doesn't unlock it or make it work with tmobile .
AFAIK Domestic sim unlocking is not possible for sprint variant.
