Flashlight/Camera Bug Back in 5.1 - Nexus 5 General

Remember the bug a while back where if you turned on the flash, it would time out in a minute or so and turn itself off? And then you would get the "Cannot connect to camera" bug and couldn't use the flash or camera until you rebooted?
That was either in the L dev preview or 5.0.0, i don't remember. It seemed to be fixed in the latest patch prior to 5.1, though.
Sadly, it appears to be back in 5.1. Is there an open bug for this?

Oh gawd

FWIW, I have never been able to duplicate the problem on my N5, either with 5.0.1 or with 5.1. Just now I turned on the flashlight via the quick settings shade and left it on for over 10 minutes. It stayed on all that time, and after I turned it off, the camera is working fine. I don't know what to conclude, but I'm glad I'm not experiencing the problem.

Also was there with 5.0.1
Sometimes the flashlight worked, but most of the time it behaved the way as in OPs post.
Annoying, especially since Xposed also doesn't work with 5.1.....used the Wanam Torch module the whole time.

Yeah Wow and I thought I was the only person with this problem I thought my flashlight LED blew out the first time it happened because it wouldn't turn back on until after I Rebooted.

yup, had the problem just now..

The bug is NOT because of Android.
The bug is that one of your APPS is poorly written, it is using the camera HAL and is not releasing it properly after use, as only one process can use the camera HAL at any given time.
Such culprit apps are usually video call apps (e.g. Skype), instant photo-sharing apps (e.g. Snapchat), flashlight apps, or a poorly written 3rd party camera app.
The timing out is likely to prevent you from burning out the flash, as it's main purpose only involves a brief flash, not continuous use.

Wrong, faced it on Day 1 when i was in 5.0, it was a clean flash of factory image with no user apps installed.
In 5.1 so far i haven't encountered that bug.

Didnt experience it before 5.1 but now do

It did it on the developer preview also
Sent via tapatalk from my cataclysm'd Lollipooop Nexus 5

I had this bug from 4.4 and still happening, im used to it not a big deal. Just dont keep flash on longer then 10 min.

Not using any of those things you mentioned.
And what you call a prevention from burning out the flash....I don't know man, since when did "having to reboot your phone because the flash would never turn back on after it turned off by itself" become a feature?

So you're telling me.. When I drop down the notification page and toggle "Flashlight" and it goes out it's the "APPS" Fault. Which is the built in notification area?

I've never had a problem regarding this, fortunately.

Don't comment unless you have useful input for the developers - commenting just spams everyone on the list, meaning many will un-star it. Just star it instead.

Have this bug on clean install of 5.1
Pretty random in nature

I had the same issue and I solved going in the development option and I switched on the Awesome player option.
Seems it works. I had for 2 minutes the flash light on without problems

Initially I didn't think I had it....and I don't on a fresh boot when no notifications come in. Then I had the flashlight on and an e-mail (Gmail) notification came in, and I couldn't turn off the flashlight. Before 5.1 had it stuck on every time if the screen timed out, at least that is fixed (I think).

I have no idea why this worked, but it did. 10+ minutes, no timeout!
this has been the most infuriating bug I have experienced going all the way back to making my htc ozone run on gingerbread.
has been present on every variation of lollipop I could find. my flash light would time out in 2 minutes or so.
Thank you so much!

CM10 Bug Thread

As poeple keep aksing the same questions over and over again in the official CM10 thread I tought it might be a good idea to have a dedicated bug thread. I will try to maintain the first post as good as possible. It should give you an overview of bugs and workarounds.
Following are known bugs with workarounds:
Slow charging bug
Restart phone with cable pluged
Battery drain on wifi
In advanced settings of WLAN don't choose the option to keep activated always the wifi
Apollo chrashes
Clear cache and data of appollo app in "manage apps" menu
Noise during Call, muted mic
Use a CM Rom for the new bootloader
Following are known bugs withouth workarounds:
Voice/Video call in Gtalk doesn't work (FC)
Panoramic photo mode chrashes somtimes
only continuous autofocus in videocam
notification bar isnt able to be tranparent, even with themes
no CRT on/off animation
non selectable pieces in enrgy-switch-widget
Bluetooth is loosing connection
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter
No face unlock
HDMI output is rotated by 90 degree
Fixed Bugs
Screen turning randomly turning on (CM 1105)
Headset button works. This concerns those who use a proper Android headset that has a button for answering calls and pausing music. (CM 1105)
Other things to know
No LED Notification. This is actually not a bug. It is a feature which is not implemented yet.
Voice/Video call in Gtalk doesn't work (Gtalk gets FC'ed).
There is already a post maintained in another thread (can't tell which one) with an exhaustive list of known bugs, but I've only got these (as far as I know), gtalk and no audio in call.
screen randomly turning on. happens much more with wifi on, like constantly, but now i changed to 1105 nightly, so ill see if this is gone or not.

The Parnoramic photo mod can't save picture
(1104 + CWM 6.0.12)
Datetime zone (solve in 1106)

I don't think it's a sdcard problem as I do not have any issues with the sdcard. Sometimes I am able to shoot Panorama fotos. Somtimes I am not.

What did you have on?
If you left it with wifi on it kinda makes sense it charged really slowly... if you believe that wifi is that enormous battery drainer everyone says it is (since I flashed v30a BB I have a battery life very similar to what I had with CM7, which was pretty good).
Flash light in photo camera is not working for me even when set to flash on.
With other camera apps it works. Can someone confirm?
My phone having randomly BSOD's.
Phone won't wake after sleep, have to take out battery. I have noticed some others have reported this in CM10 thread..
Bluetooth often does not connect to my car handsfree right away and often I have to turn BT off then on again on the phone to connect.
Bluetooth calling often gets cut off mid-call or briefly interrupted by waterfall noises.
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter. Also the viewfinder lags a lot.
Whenever a new nightly is flashed on, it tends to disrupt the Bluetooth settings and force me to manually delete and repair.
The touch buttons don't light up during a notification when the screen is off (they used to in CM7).
Caller id, hidden number not functionnal in phone parameters / additionnals settings
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
Would help a lot if all of us shared the ROM version because some bugs are ROM related.
With 1107:
No face unlock
No full size panorama
Only continuous autofocus in videocam
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter
Other bugs are not important to me so far.
Camera flash works for me,you need to turn that in options, works in cm and 4.2 camera

got the same problem. Really annoying.
Only solution i found is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674661
But i really don't want to do it, upgrading to the newest nightly and checking if the problem persists.
Edit: Updated it per CM-Updater (the one in "About the phone") and it's working great now, no random lightening up)

5.0 doesn't work well

So, I successfully clear the cache, I even clear the storage data with Google service and play store etc, and the phone runs smoothly for a while.
Until some app are updated, the whole phone goes crazy again, especially my camera. If I launch the moto camera (not any other camera app) and turn it off. All my app in background would be shut down, such as bluelight filter, every time! I have to reboot my phone, to make it turn back to normal, but at certain point, the phone would go crazy again with that camera issue!
I guess it is the problem with the incompatibility of 5.0, and in fact some apps do! I uninstalled a lot of them, but the issue goes on. This is my second week with my brand new moto x, but everything so far make me love my first moto x deeper!
Anyone can help?

if I remember correctly, I have no problem with 4.4.4. The camera issue is that something stopped the twist launch first, than I have to launch it manually, but soon the camera shut down by itself, and all my apps crashed, and relaunch.

"Can't connect to camera" - Nexus 6 error with Lollipop 5.1

My Nexus 6 is unable to start the camera. The google camera app hangs when it starts and nothing shows up. Earlier the camera used to open but it lagged a bit when HDR was on. Now the camera isn't opening anymore. The other apps like Instagram that use the camera are also not able to open it. The app opens up and hangs, nothing shows up just black screen and sometimes the message "Can't connect to Camera" appears. This issue came after 5.1 and I also had buzz launcher installed once but then I removed it. The phone is less than 7 months old and I bought it online from Flipkart (Indian e-commerce site).
What I've tried:
Forced stop the app (Google Camera)
Cleared cache of the app
Booted in recovery mode and wiped cache partition
Factory reset the device
Nothing worked for me, I tried these steps one by one and then tested the camera but it is still not working. Please help me with this, I paid a lot of money for this phone on my own and it feels really bad and annoying that the camera isn't functional anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You could try a different camera app.
Camera FV-5.
Camera is a nightmare
Here's my issue with the camera:
I've been on lollipop for a while and I haven't had a problem with it, until the camera decided to take a vacation on me. When it comes to taking pictures, the phone crashes and an icon shows my battery is dead, this happens on a full to half life, so I'm not sure what it's trying to pull here. I've cleared and cleaned the phone, my last option is to reset, though I have a feeling this won't work, since I'll still need the latest android update, so I'm back to square one.
The latest issue Is when it comes to uploading pictures, the phone crashes with the same error sequence.
And the finally issue is the sound the device makes sometimes with the camera. Which is curious because I am careful but it looks like I'm having issues from different sources. I'd like to rule out the software side first.
For the time being, I've disabled the camera completely.

From the Google product forums it looks like a failure of the camera app to close properly after use.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!category-topic/nexus/using-the-camera/aY0X1QiGuhY
Either by use of a 3rd party app that uses the camera or the flashlight. Also it seems that using face unlock can cause the issue.
That being said, and you've reset the device... Have you tried the camera right after the reset (without 3rd party apps)?

Yes, I tried the camera just after the reset and it did not work. I think the OS should be responsible to handle the apps and how are they being closed. Google is not working upto the mark on this. I still need help

Sadly, it seems like you have 2 options, sucking it up and installing another camera or RMA the device.
I wish that wasn't the case for you, I'm disappointed too. I love this phone.

Third N910T replacement; something stealing app focus

I'm about to receive my third warranty replacement for the numerous problems I had with my Note4. Most of the problems are fixable (camera, GPS, etc), but one problem is bad and I don't see a simple solution.
Something seems to be intermittently stealing the focus from my app (I believe). So, if I'm watching YouTube, it randomly pauses because it thinks I've switched apps. If I'm recording video, it randomly stops, because it thinks I've switched apps. If I'm playing a video game, it pauses while I'm playing until 'I return'. If I go to the app-switcher, sometimes it closes randomly before I select which running app to switch to.
I actually bought a new SD card (64GB wasn't really doing it for me, anymore, anyways) but the problem persists. The phone does seem better behaved before all my apps repopulate (although there's not much to do on the phone before the apps are back), so I suspect it's an app, but I haven't heard anything about this sort of problem on any website or forum.
Lastly, the problem may have started around the time of the StageFright patch in August, but a lot of apps also updated around that time.
I'm stock 5.0.1 without root (maybe in the future), although I always disable T-Mobile bloatware like DT_Ignite. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks - And sorry for the late reply (I don't remember getting a notification about a reply). I'll try your suggestion if the problem comes back.
It appears to be a problem with the Samsung Techwin app for their video cameras. For others, the app would just randomly pop-up during phone use, making the problem easier to diagnose. For me, it would just steal focus.
I uninstalled the app & things are back to normal.

Very cool you found what was giving the problem. I'll remember this fix as well, another tool in the toolbox!

LG better fixes these issues in the Marshmallow build, or I am saying godbye to LG...

Touchscreen Issue: This thing has been persistent from the very beginning. After struggling for months, it has been mostly fixed with the last update. But double tap to wake is still a 50/50 chance, most of the time it's 4 taps to wake.
WiFi Issue: I have come across may complaint across internet about wifi issue for LG G4, ppl suggested several solutions but none really worked. Wifi connection suddenly drops, and also takes a considerable amount of time when waking up from sleep. It gets very annoying when I am on a voip or hangout call.
No it's not my router or my phone. Because it's the same on my home and work network, where other devices just work fine. Also I don't have any of those issues on CM12.1 rom. CM is quite nice on LG G4 but having to be using it on CM is not an option, as I lose the camera.
Besides I didn't pay the money to purchase a flagship device to use it on a different rom.
So, that's it. LG better fixes it on the Marshmallow, otherwise Good Bye LG.
Update: The WiFi is much better since I uninstalled Xposed. I am guessing that some xposed module had something to do with it. Can anybody confirm?
No change in the double tap to unlock though. Funny thing is that it works perfectly with CM.
Sorry to hear you are still having issues with your device. My only issue is the double tap to wake/sleep, but its something that I can live with. I never had an issue with wifi on any network, work/home/neighbors, ever.
Have you tried any of the roms supplied by our great devs or are you on stock?

I tried stock rooted debloated, also stock-based xtreme rom. Always having these issues.
Hmm..... Thats weird, My G4 has been runing good since I first purchased it in september..... Guess I got lucky.
I feel the ops pain, because I've had the WiFi issues a few times, and the tap to wake is 50/50 at best. I'm also growing tired of waiting for updates from LG or Tmo.
The poor 5GHz wifi support kills me. Only device in the household that has that issue. Other than that, though, I've been pretty happy with the G4.
I purchased my G4 a month ago and don't have those issues. Double tap works fine and my phone uses 5g WiFi at home. I wish you luck op.
As far as the WiFi is concerned, I have the same problem. Using WiFI Analyzer, I can see that all available wireless networks near me drop to 0 every minute or so, and then start back up. My wife also has a G4, and her device does not do that. I'm wondering if there was either a bad batch of WiFi radio chips, or poor connections to the mainboard for a group of these.
I think the tap to wake issue is because of that other stupid "feature" that I'm sure not a single person uses.
You know the one where when the screen is off, you swipe down from the top of the screen and it shows the clock? My phone often mistakes my taps to wake as swipes and tries to activate that instead (I can tell because the notification led comes on when that is activated).
Is there any way to turn that thing off? It is completely useless. It would be one thing if it showed the notifications but no it just shows the clock

I agree with you on... that is probably the case. A completely useless feature, which also doesn't work half the time.

Did you just root, or are you using other apps that uses root access? Did you uninstall or delete any system app?
It's very unlikely that rooting would break the camera. Try unrooting.. Super Su has the option to unroot in its settings. If doesn't work you may have to do a factory reset.

I thought it was the app being supervised and I didn't check the camera app recording. I later installed apps for root like xposed installer to obtain snapprefs, but the problem continued to appear. After the download of a few apps and mods for root. I downloaded instagram and I was still not able to record videos. Finally I opened the camera and it was the same problem. I unrooted my phone and the video recording is working. I will root again and only test the camera app after root and after each app and mod I added before. I did try the factory reset and no luck.

Since you already got twrp up and running, I can try MicroMod777's stock rooted debloated rom.
Never had problems with my H811 even installed different ROMs from LP to MM and back. Never had hardware issues.
My only problem with the h811 is the stupid gps not shutting off and killing the battery, fixed by app ops
I'm stock everything and my notifications have basically just stopped working out of no where. I've tried every solution there is on the web to fix it except a factory reset - is this what it comes down to? Do I have to factory reset every few months just to keep the phone running normally? That's not really ideal.

It's your phone... Those problems don't exist for everyone.
