[Q] How to transfer files without a rom? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I did something really stupid and formatted my whole phone, so I can only access TWRP and Fastboot! I need to get a backup from my pc on the phone, but I wonder how? I can't push files via fastboot and TWRP's MTP mode isn't recognized by my pc
Any ideas how to get any file/rom on my phone?

Twrp will recognize otg drives. You can push via adb in recovery as well so long as your drivers work.

Do you mean USB-OTG in the "mount"-menu? Twrp doesnt seem to be able to activate it...

Yes. Try connecting with the phone off then boot into TWRP. You should be able to use adb though, check your drivers.

When I try to turn the phone on while connected, a weird 3D battery appears and it refuses to go into fastboot D:

That sounds like the charging screen. Adb push/sideload should work. Reinstall your drivers and make sure all other phones have drivers removed.

Im having this same issue, after trying to flash android revolution on my unlocked/rooted rogers One, it froze on the successfully installed part and I had to wait for it to die to try to restart it.
I cannot boot into recovery or connect it to my computer in any way, ./adb reboot bootloader doesnt work it says cannot find device.
When I vol down + power the bottom lights just blink and the phone does nothing.
Any idea on how I can reflash the phone?

I have this same problem as well. I also believe I have bricked my HTC One (ATT) and I tried to flash the stock boot.img but when connected to my computer, the phone is completely empty with no download folder, apps folder or anything like it was on stock. I'm on TWRP Recovery but how to I reinstall the boot.img and fix the phone and put it back into factory settings?

[Q] Cannot push file to phone -- stuck in recovery/bootloader - Help Please [SOLVED]

Ok, so, I made a bonehead move and flashed a rom that wasn't for the sprint htc one.
was able to get recovery back on the phone by using the command line.
I installed the android sdk and put google usb on there, reinstalled htc sync for those drivers too, still my pc doesnt see the phone, but my phone does show fastboot usb, and I can fastboot reboot the phone. When I goto adb push the zip file, it says error: device not found -- same thing if i try to sideload.
I have the rom, I just cant get it on the phone
fastboot commands work...is there a way to push a file using that (like I did with the twrp file)?
or another way?
thanks!!

If fastboot is working, then so should adb in recovery. Can't really understand why it's not, are you sure you have the correct recovery? maybe check the Sprint forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-one

I have twrp 2.6.3.0 touch recovery, which appears to be the right one. Its like the phone recognizes that it's connected, but the pc doesnt (tried my mac too)...except that when I go into command line, fastboot commands work fine -- so the pc must see it...and when I plug the phone in, htc sync launches, but then says no device is connected -- so it recognizes the phone enough to launch, but then nada.
i've uninstalled drivers and reinstalled them and they install fine. this sucks

do you actually use sync manager? i recommend uninstalling HTC Sync Manager, just keep HTC Drivers.
as far as i know, there are GSM and Sprint variants of TWRP, so you have the Sprint one right?
and remember, fastboot will only work in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, and adb will only work in a ROM or RECOVERY, it will not work in bootloader.
i reflashed recovery with one that is for sure for sprint...now adb pushing the file...i think its working.
will report back when i know for sure

From what I could read, the only way into the phonr now for you is the fastboot. You are able to get into fastboot. So theoritically you could flash a custom recovery again and save your phone, provided your computer recognises the phone.
So, I beleieve there is no point in trying to look for a diifrent PC. Your PC should be fine. Make sure you are connecting the phone to USB 2.0 port and not to a 3.0 port. Use the standard USB cable that comes with the phone and not any cable. Uninstall all HTC software inluding drivers and wipe your computer clean using something like Ccleaner. Restart. Download and install latest HTC Sync Manager. Dwnload latest SDK package (64 or 32 bit depending on your PC). Use the latest fastboot/adb files to ping your phone and see if it works. If it works, then I beileve you know how to flash a custom recovery. Please keep us posted on your progress.

[Q] 5.1 OTA update

Was running stock 5.0.1 with a decrypted boot.img. Rooted, unlocked, modified build.prop, TWRP, Franco kernel. Lost ability to connect to a PC, so I can't update manually (that's for another conversation). So I need the 5.1 OTA. I unrooted through SuperSu, flashed stock recovery and stock kernel. Did a factory reset. For some reason, my build.prop stayed modified.
The OTA will download, but fails to install...simply saying "error." Any advice on what could be preventing the OTA from installing?? I was hoping this update would fix my device-to-PC connection.
Thanks

Thanks for your help. So if I have stock rom, stock recovery, and stock kernel, why would the OTA fail? I thought unrooting and factory reset would have and put everything back to original. I’m just trying to get the update. Do I need to clean up any other system files? Without root access, I can’t change my build.prop back to original, but I wouldn’t think that would have any effect.
I'm on a Nexus 6 by the way.

Does the phone boot-up? If yes enable usb debugging and you should get connected and the phone is recognised.. Test if the device is recognised in adb with cmd terminal: adb devices and in fastboot/bootloader: fastboot devices.

Yes, phone boots up and runs fine. USB debugging is enabled, but still not recognized. At best, I'll get an "unknown device" in device manager. I can't get the Nexus Root Toolkit to recognize it either, even after using the USBDeview.

Thanks. That was one of the first things I tried. I downloaded the updated drives, but not sure I "installed" them. Still not recognizing my device on any PC or Mac. I'm hoping it's not hardware, because it charges fine when connected to a PC.

Doesnt indicate anything. Data connection uses more USB pins than charging.. Double check your USB port to check for obstruction or pin damage.
Thanks everyone. I've tried multiple cables and multiple computers. Still nothing. At best, I can only get my phone to show up as an "unknown device" in device manager. Then when I manually install the Google drivers, it says "drivers already installed." Or it will install the drivers in like 1 second and finish. But still no connection. I'll keep trying. Otherwise, I'm screwed and will need to keep my non-rooted device on 5.0.1.

Anyone with the same issue ? I am stuck at the bootloader since I wiped out my system image I can get to the recovery but I don't have a way to transfer new ROM since phone wont detect USB (MTP).

I didn't have any image backed to restore to. Tried OTG cable/USB nothing worked
What are my options ?

Hi... Is data mounted and MTP enabled in TWRP?
Is your phone detected while in bootloader?
Try: fastboot devices
If phone is recognized, download stock firmware of your choice and flash it...

MTP is enabled but phone is not detected at all
I can access the terminal in recovery mode but it doesn't support ftp command to download any firmware.
I guess I am doomed

Wait... I don't get it...
Are you stuck in recovery? Or bootloader?
Also you can't use ftp commands either in bootloader or recovery... I suggest you start by reading this thread to learn a few basics about Android commands and how-to :

Sorry to confuse you I can get to the bootloader and the recovery no problem but when I try to reboot to the system it kept saying no OS installed. I don't have any ROM installed and I can't use USB cable since phone won't detect it. So I am stuck at back-end.

So...
What operating system is installed on your computer?
Did you already install adb/fastboot drivers?
In device manager, while being in bootloader, is your phone detected when you plug your USB cable?
Did you try different cables, USB ports?

I tried different cables/PCs nothing worked. I think my phone USB port is defected but what confuses me more is that it can be charged just fine but no USB connectivity
It is still under warranty but not sure if it will be honored since I have the bootloader unlocked.

Nothing like said it is dead. I have another nexus 6 can connect easily to the PC I am pretty sure it is a phone issue.
Well, if you're 100℅ sure the USB port is damaged, there's nothing else than a repair that could bring your phone back to life... Good luck..!

Tried that already it didn't work
Might be a driver problem.
Connect it your windows pc and check the Device Manager if it is detected as "Android" device. If so uninstall it and disconnect and reconnect it to the pc. Let windows install the MTP drivers.
