Hi,
I'm kind of desperate ..
I was using my HTC one, and it crushed and was stucked in the boot screen (the screen where we can read "HTC powered by Android"
Whatever i try, it won't work. I unlocked the phone, installed a special recovery using command line fastboot.
When i try to install a ROM, in the recovery menu i choose "install zip". I can't use "choose zip from sdcard" and "choose zip from last install folder" cause i get a "No files found" message
So i tried the "install zip from sideload". I used adb command line, with ViperOne ROM, and it worked, i obtained the ViperOne install interface, so i clicked next till arriving to the last step and start the install. So guess what ? To perform the install, the phone has to reboot, and it got stucked again in the same boot screen.
I'm really really tired please help!

Try again with TWRP 2.8.4.0 and reflash. To flash ViperOne you need TWRP
Installation failed with TWRP, i don't know why, it started the installation and then finally it said installation failed
And now i'm not able de sideload anymore with adb as it always saying no device found ...
I noticed that i always got some error messages in the console :
E: Unable to mount ./cache
E: Unable to mount ./system
...

What version of adb are you using? What version of twrp have you flashed? Are you flashing the newest viperone?
Twrp : openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-m7
ViperOne : 8.0.0
Adb : 1.0.32

you will need to clear the unable to mount errors first, especially the system one, only way to do that is select wipe - format data button, be warned though, this will wipe the entire phone, but in your condition, its the only way to get it working again, after the format make sure you reboot back into recovery, it will prompt you saying you have no OS installed, just ignore it and reboot back to recovery anyway (required for the changes to take effect), also, NO to root, then put the rom back on your internal storage and flash it again.
Ok i just Formatted Data
I got this messages :
HTML:
Formatting data using make_ext4fs function
You may need to reboot recovery to be able to use /data again
Updating partition details
E: Unable to mount '/system'
...done
And i'm still in the recovery, the phone didn't even ask for reboot ?!

it wont ask you to reboot, you need to just manually do that yourself
Rebooted, but adb is not finding my device anymore, so impossible to perform a sideload! Since i tried to install viper, there is a problem with the usb driver (see the attached file)

right click - update driver - browse computer - let me pick - android devices (if prompted) - latest myHTC driver - install anyway if you get a warning message.
EDIT: also if your using TWRP 2.8.4.0 or 2.8.5.0 you dont need to use sideload, your phone should open up on your computer when you plug it in even when in recovery as that recovery supports MTP
I got an error while updating the driver : "This device cannot start" Code 10

Ok resolved driver problem. Finally succeded to transfert the ROM zip file to the sdcard. Installed viper, and got a succeed message at the end for the first time
But now, the phone is kind of dead!! after the positive feedback after installation, it said that the phone was going to reboot. But since then the phone is off, and i'm not able to get it to work anymore!!!!!!! No fastboot, no recovery, no normal boot, NOTHING!
What's going on ?

hold down the power button, keep holding whilst the captive buttons on the bottom flash about 15 times, dont let go till they stop flashing, this is going to sound crazy but you may have to shine a very bright light into the light sensors on your phone at the same time (2 little dots by the side of the top left speaker).
I use my Mrs camera flash light on her phone to do it.
The captive buttons are not flashing. Before trying to install viper, those button were indeed flashing everytime i hold the power button.
I tried the bright light, nothing changed.
When i plug the phone in my computer, i got the usb sound, and when i hold the power, i got the usb disconnecter sound. But the screen is always black, whatever i try.
R.I.P ?

What You Need
An HTC One in distress
S-OFF
Custom ROM (or stock, we don't judge)

ADB and Fastboot in working condition
Quick verification
Start your phone in bootloader by holding the Power button and Volume-Down button (make sure there is plenty of light pointed at the sensor) or by typing
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Select "Fastboot" so that it appears in red instead of HBOOT
On your computer, make sure fastboot sees your device, then type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Do a quick copy/paste to compare later.
It should look like this :
Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
[U](bootloader) version-bootloader: [B][COLOR="Green"]1.xx.0000[/COLOR][/B][/U]
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4A.20.3263.16

Make sure the device is indeed S-OFF. If not, check your "version-bootloader" value and follow the appropriate instructions (which are linked at the top of thread depending on which version you are at)
If You Are Stuck in a Bootloop
Hold the Volume-Down button
Hold the Power button for around 10 seconds
Release the Power button (but keep Volume-Down pressed)
You should see something similar to this :

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

Plug the phone into the computer
Using the Volume buttons and the Power button, select Fastboot and make sure FASTBOOT USB shows up (like on the picture)
To make sure fastboot is properly connected, use
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Destroying to Better Rebuild
****Steps 1 to 4 are, although optional, recommended. They will completely erase what you have on your phone, but will reduce conflict; especially in cases where difficulties are encountered.
If you are still on stock recovery and ROM, select the FACTORY RESET option (If it is not there, select BOOTLOADER and then the FACTORY RESET option should appear.) Then skip to Step #4
If you are on a custom recovery, select the RECOVERY option in FASTBOOT If it is not there, select BOOTLOADER and then the RECOVERY option should appear.)
In recovery, select
Code:
Wipe data/factory reset
Code:
Wipe cache
Code:
Advanced - > Wipe dalvik cache
Type
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
Flashing Firmware
Prepare your firmware.zip file for imminent flashing.
Type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Type
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once it's rebooted on a silver HTC logo, type :
Code:
fastboot flash zip [pathonyourcomputer/firmware.zip]
You should the following message :
Code:
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
finished. total time: [I]X.xxx[/I] s
Re-type :
Code:
fastboot flash zip [pathonyourcomputer/firmware.zip]
Wait until it is done on your computer. The green progress bar shown on the phone will never reach the end.
Type
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Allows you, by comparing with your "old" results that the flash indeed worked.
Reinstalling recovery
Rename the recovery you downloaded to recovery.img and place it in your adb/fastboot folder
Reflash your recovery
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Reboot into recovery by selecting the option in fastboot by selecting BOOTLOADER and then RECOVERY (use the Volume-buttons to navigate and the Power-button to select )
***If it starts a boot loop, just force the phone to enter fastboot by holding the Volume-down button and use "fastboot erase cache"
***If you get an error similar to"mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p37 on /data failed: Invalid argument", follow this excellent guide by mike1986 on how to fix the issue.
Select the option "Wipe data/factory reset" (You will loose everything not previously backed up outside the phone.)
Select "Wipe Cache partition"
Select "Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Installing Custom ROM
Now you have 2 options :
Push (Preferred)
While in recovery, type
Code:
adb push [path/rom.zip] /sdcard/rom.zip
Select "Install zip"
Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Voila ! You should be good to go !
Sideload (If you can't push for some reason)
Select "Install zip"
Select "Install zip from sideload"
Type
Code:
adb sideload [path/rom.zip]
Voila ! You should be good to go !
If anything needs to be changed or if you have any questions, I am subscribed to this thread and will check a minimum of once a day.
Not sure all this is necessary (IMHO), but anyway thanks for the guide.
One thing step 15: "fastboot flash zip [pathonyourcomputer/firmware.zip]"
has to be done twice in succession. first time will come back with "FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)"
and the second "fastboot flash zip [pathonyourcomputer/firmware.zip]" will succeed.

I try on 3 computer with 3 different original htc cables.

first hide IMEI and SN from your OP. Refer to nkk71's guide linked in my signature to return stock. To s-off your device with rumrunner you'll need a rom in your phone. So you should try arhd. adb push it to /sdcard/ and flash from latest twrp recovery. then try again to s-off and follow the guide.
Done,
I forgot to do it, thanks
Edit : i've already try to install arhd but i got an error message
Code:

set_metadata_recursive:some changes failed
I'm going to try with your link
Edit 2 : i has read already this guide but it's said that you need to be s-off
i'm going to try, who knows
Edit 3 : i confirm that don't work because i'm not s-off

Yes, you'll need to have a functioning ROM on your phone for http://rumrunner.us/ or http://firewater-soff.com/ to work.
What recovery and version are you using to install which ROM? (please do not say latest!!! give me a version number, all of it, not just 2.6 or something)
HI,
So i try with twrp 2.6.0.1, CWR 6.0.3.4 and 6.0.4.5
Soon to your post i test with twrp 2.6.3.3 for m7 and it work, i install succesfully ARHD 51 rom
Now i'm going to try to s-off again
Thanks a lot :good::good:
Edit : i try again and adb don't work and device isn't find.
I disable fastboot and check usb debugging why is don't working :crying:

how about some basic info,
* what OS are you using,
* what kind of USB ports
* and you went from latest "twrp 2.6.0.1" to latest "twrp 2.6.3.3"
* adb devices working?
* adb shell working -> gives you normal prompt ($) or su prompt (#)
* fastboot devices working?
* you are able to adb push but not "i try again and adb don't work and device isn't find" (where? in bootloader, recovery, or ROM)?
* no copy/paste of command prompt or terminal?
the less information you give, the less help you're gonna get

I have an HTC One M7 running CyanogenMod and need to restore it so that I can change operators.
It will not let me unlatch it using the O2 unlatch code.

I assume you mean to SIM unlock the device. For the code to work you need to flash an O2 stock Rom.

And your device is in fastboot usb mode? Check your drivers in Windows device manager. What is your HTC listed as. Anything other than "My HTC" indicates a driver issue.

So I guess your still having driver problems?
There is and ruu you can flash https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347813898 but you will need to get those drivers working to do so. As it requires fastboot.
I did find a nandroid backup https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934549269 you could download this direct to the phone and restore it with twrp. But the RUU is a better option if you can get the drivers to work :good:

Ok cool, download the ruu from the first link in my previous post.
Download htc_fastboot https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934550031 Copy both files to your existing fastboot folder and rename the RUU zip file to something simple. e.g "ruu"
Boot your device to the bootloader and connect fastboot usb. Then relock your bootloader and flash the RUU with the following commands.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Wait for reboot
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
The device will reboot during the flash, and the progress bar on the phone won't quite reach 100% that's normal. Wait till the command windows competes it's output with a successful message then
Code:
fastboot reboot
Note first boot will take longer than usual. It may seem to be stuck on the HTC boot screen for 15 to 20 minutes.

fastboot cannot see the ruu file. Possible reasons for this.
Is the ruu file in the fastboot folder? The ruu needs to be in your fastboot folder in order for the flash command to work. Otherwise you need to specify the full path to the files location.
Is the command window working from your fastboot folder? To make sure of this Open your fastboot folder on your pc. Hold shift and right click on an empty space inside the folder window. Select option - "Open Command Window Here"
File name can also cause a problem. The fastboot flash zip command must specify the correct file name.
Also Windows appends file extensions so they should not be included in the file name. i.e
If you name a file ruu.zip Windows will see it as ruu.zip.zip. so make sure to rename the file simply as "ruu" Windows will automatically append the .zip :good:
Failing all that there is the full proof drag and drop method. Enter the first part of the command "htc_fastboot flash zip " leaving a space on the end.
Then simply drag the ruu file with your mouse into the command window. It will automatically add the full file path to the ruu. Hit enter :good:

Evening,
I've been desperately trying to figure this out myself but I've concluded that it's too complex for me to go it alone, as it stands my HTC one M7_UL is I believe soft bricked, I can get to the bootloader and into TWRP recovery but I've had no luck with FASTBOOT/ADB, I can sideload a rom.zip but it just fails to do anything after 100%, I reboot it and it just gets stuck on the previous bootloop. Currently have no OS installed and honestly I don't have a clue what I'm doing, exactly why I'm in this mess in the first place, I bricked it a while ago but I figure I wiped system partitions and as a result am in a bad place any advice you could offer would be brilliant.

You should take a few minutes and update your twrp first because there's not much you'll be able to flash with this version and also because newer version will allow you to use mtp instead of sideload (you'll be able to see your phone storage from your computer when booted in TWRP like if it was a thumb drive)
Here is the link to download the latest version (3.0.M5.0) http://android.cmphys.com/twrp-m7/
Save the file in your fastboot/adb folder. With the phone booted in bootloader mode showing "fastboot usb" in red, start a command window and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.M5-0-m7univ.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then you can restore this twrp backup: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722646675
To restore a backup, boot in twrp and make a backup of boot.img only (this is only to generate a backup path). Then using twrp's files manager navigate to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/your_serial_number/date_of_backup and delete backup files in this folder and replace them by the files contained in the nandroid backup you want to use. Then select "restore" and restore all available partitions.

In order to flash the official OTA you need stock recovery. You can't update your phone the official way with custom recovery
HTC One
I followed your instructions, copied all the downloaded files to the Date folder, except the file "system.ext4.win000" 1.5GB. It hangs, won't go past approx. 15-20%. I tried a very similar method yesterday, and the same happened.

So I flashed the stock recovery .img you linked and I searched for software updates, clicked ok and it reboots and comes up with a screen with a phone displaying a green triangle, after a couple of minutes the triangle turns red, I pressed the power button and the volume up button so I could see the error report and I got this:

Check /data/preload/SoundHound_Freemium.apk failed, error No such file or directory()

Looks like the nandrdoid backup was missing the files in /data/preload. When unlocking the bootloader, /data is wiped to prevent unauthorized access to your files. Unfortunately HTC packed a few stock apps in /data/preload so these apps are lost when unlocking. So the person who made that nandroid backup did it after unlocking the bootloader hence why the missing files. Sorry
When installing an OTA update, the updater-script check for all the files to be updated (thousand of files). They must all be there and as expected (not modded or corrupt). If only one of these files is missing/corrupt, the ota installation will abort, this is to prevent patching wrong files and making your system unusable.
This can usually be corrected by restoring the missing files. Unfortunately I can't find the /data/preload files for your version...
Another option would be to update your firmware so you can flash the latest version using a RUU
Download these 3 files and save them in your adb/fastboot folder on your computer:

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24385226645962836
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24341993505161791
re-lock your bootloader (needed since your phone is S-ON):
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Update your firmware:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip M7_UL_Firmware_7.18.206.2.zip
fastboot flash zip M7_UL_Firmware_7.18.206.2.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Flash the RUU:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_O2_UK_7.18.206.51_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_459056_signed.zip
fastboot reboot

Ok I'm all sorted that worked, thanks for your time!
Hi there.
Well, my 802w (M7Cdug) is bricked. First it used to have this cycle of "turn on - work for a couple of minutes - restart - work for a couple of minutes", when I woke up next day after leaving it on cable I got this message of "decrypt storage, to start Android enter your password", of course whatever password I write it ends up with "pasword is correct, but data is corrupt", then it suggests to hard reset the phone. Doing that ends up with opening the Android system recovery with the following info in the log:
Code:
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument).. try emmc mount handle_cota_install: Can't mount /data/data/cwtemp/cwpkg.zi, 508056 times
Wiping cache partition (which is completed) and wiping data (which ends up with the same info and information on completion) does nothing.
Getting to the bootloader it says it's locked.
What else have I tried (I'm a real newbie in this topic so I might have done something absolutely stupid which couldn't have worked, but if you have any solution, please tell me):
* Unlocking: using the command "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" makes the phone show the "Unlock bootloader?" screen, choosing yes restarts it and makes it go back to the recovery screen, going back to the bootloader it's still locked.
* Moonshine S-OFF: ends up with "ERROR: run distiller again and READ"
* Minimal ADB and Fastboot & TWRP: the device is connected, doing the "fastboot flash recovery" ends up with "(bootloader) signature checking... FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)" and the "fastboot oem unlock" with "Command error".
* Minimal ADB and Fastboot & RUU: running "rebootRUU" ends up with phone again at the decrypt screen, getting it back there and running flash zip RUU.zip ends up with: signature checking / rom parsing start / rom parsing finish / FAILnot allowed / FAIL (remote: not allowed)"
I'm out of ideas - maybe I'm doing something wrong? If you guys have any idea what can help or if you'd like to help eg. via a TeamViewer I would be really thankful - having a $200 brick is not really satysfying, as well as having to use a shabby Xperia J with a broken screen as I can't afford anything new
If you need some info on what files should be used here's some stuff I got from fastboot getvar all:
Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 2.49.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: U3.19.3509.04
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main: 7.17.402.55
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
(bootloader) serialno: ...
(bootloader) imei: ...
(bootloader) meid: 00000000000000
(bootloader) product: m7cdug
(bootloader) platform: HBOOT-8064
(bootloader) modelid: PN0771000
(bootloader) cidnum: HTC__032
(bootloader) battery-status: good
(bootloader) battery-voltage: 4281mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: on
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: dirty-d0e3b226
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
Bump?
Like... seriously? Nothing can be done?

These 3 symptoms make it sounds like your Emmc might be faulty

You must have an unlocked bootloader to flash the recovery partition, it can't be unlocked so trying to flash recovery is useless, will not work.
"fastboot oem unlock" with "Command error".

fastboot oem unlock isn't a supported command on your model, on the GPE variant can be unlocked this way.

Getting it back where? In bootloader? RUU can only be flashed when booted in RUU mode (black screen with silver HTC logo). If you're not booted at this screen, trying to flash RUU is useless, will not work.

The dual sim variant can be flashed using the external sd card. Rename the RUU file to "PN071IMG.zip" (watch out for souble file extension when renaming). Move the file at the root of your external sd card (must be formatted using FAT32), reboot in bootloader mode and you should be asked if you want to update. Btw what RUU were you using? With S-On you can only use the same (or newer) RUU than your version-main number (you're already on the newest version so only the 7.17.402.55 should work, hope you already have it cause I cant find this version).
Also the ouput of "fastboot oem dmesg" and "fastboot oem last_dmesg" might help determine any hardware failure.
