Help: Need Correct Stock Recovery to Update to Lollipop - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I currently have the Wind Mobile M7 5.0 (7.17.1500.8) Lollipop update waiting for me and I'm trying to find the correct stock recovery so that the update will successfully install. I'm running into red triangles so far. My current software is 4.4.2 (5.11.1500.8). Details of my phone are that it's currently S-Off, CID-Globa001, and Radio-4A.20.3263.16.
Can someone point me to the right stock recovery image?
Thanks,

take the one out of the update, download the update to your phone, select install later, plug your phone into the computer and copy the OTA to your computer, its just a zip file, its in the internal storage/downloads folder, open it with WinRAR, 7 zip, winzip, whatever it is you use, inside there you will see another zip called firmware.zip, open that and pull out recovery.img, flash it with fastboot then try and update again.

That looks to be getting me in the right direction.
Thanks again!

Bell stock ROM?

I'm trying to find a bell stock rom but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know where I can get it?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
You can't. Bell have yet to release a stock rom. They have said they will be releasing the official gingerbread update in "mid-summer" which really means August.
My phone is stuck in the bootloader until they release their update .

An OTA update is official, but it is not a full RUU that can be run from a PC to update a phone.

Oh ok, do they release a full RUU update every time there is a OTA?
Have a Bell Incredible S - did install CWM on it, but never installed any custom ROM (ie: still have the Bell 2.2 that came with it).
Saw the update was available OTA, so downloaded it, and tried to run it, but phone got stuck on the yellow exclamation mark screen, with no way to get out of it.
Had to remove battery manually to get it to shut down and reboot...
Rebooted in CWM recovery, figuring I'd try to install the update manually, but when I select Apply update from Zip and select the file:
OTA_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_BM_2.28.666.3-1.37.666.3_release_1996915a77tbflmphcmnen.zip
I get:
assert failed: check_cid(getprop....
...
E:Error in /sdcard/download/OTA...
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Anyone has any idea?
Could it simply be that the file itself somehow got corrupted - or is CWM somehow doing something?

The reason the first OTA update failed is because you have ClockworkMod installed. The update can only be applied to a stock Bell Mobile, including the recovery image.
The reason CWM can't 'install' the OTA zip file is because the file format is not compatible with CWM. The zip file format can be flashed by HBOOT if you copy it to the root of your rename it PG32IMG.zip and replace CWM with the stock HTC recovery image.

Is there an easy way to go back to the original Bell HBOOT that came with the phone (or is that what you mean by stock HTC recovery image)?

Well normally you can simply open up the RUU file of your currently installed ROM and extract the recovery.img, but in this case since there isn't a original Bell Mobile RUU for Froyo, you could probably extract it from one of the other IncS Froyo RUU.

So, to be clear:
1) Find a recovery.img from one of the Froyo RUU
2) Install it ...? (guessing there's an option in in the CWM menu?
That'd get me the "generic" HTC IncS HBOOT? And from that, I'd be able to use the OTA zip by renaming it to PG32IMG.zip on the root of the sd card?
If that's the case...do I then end up with the full Bell image/hboot, that'd eventually be able to accept whtaever other OTA they come up with?
Thx for your time, btw...much apreciated.

1. From the RUU extract both the recovery.img and the android-info.txt
2. Edit the android-info.txt and add the following line:
modelid: PG3212***
3. Zip those 2 files into a zip file and name it PG32IMG.zip
4. Copy it to the root of your SD card and then boot into HBOOT.
5. HBOOT should find the file, scan it and then prompt you to run the update.
6. Reboot your phone normally. Once it is booted, you need to delete the PG32IMG.zip file from your SD card.
7. Then you can copy and rename the OTA zip file to your SD card and rename it PG32IMG.zip
8. Reboot into HBOOT once again and it should find the PG32IMG.zip file, scan it and then ask to install it.

The first part worked fine...had to put in the following line in the android-info.txt though:
cidnum: BM___001
It was giving me "CID incorrect" before that...Tried the "recovery" option, just to ensure that CWM recovery wasn't present anymore...and it went to a red exclamation in a red triangle screen - which I'm guessing is normal?
Then, did as you suggested. Renamed the OTA zip file to PG32IMG.zip and put that at the root of the SD card...rebooted in HBOOT - it scanned the file, didn't give any error whatsoever, but didn't prompt to install it though - just went back to the regular HBOOT menu.
Could it be the OTA file doesn't have the same structure as a PG32IMG.zip file?
It has the following at the root:
\META-INF
\patch
\system
firmware.zip
fotaBoot

I found mine from:
RUU_Vivo_HTC_WWE_1.36.405.1_Radio_Radio_20.23.30.0802U_38.02.01.11_M_release_172670_signed
Decided to try using the regular OTA route now...hit the Software Update, re-downloaded the OTA file...installed it - it seems to be updating now.
Went thru 2x update screens with the progress bar (going thru the 2nd one at this moment)...
Will let you know once it ends.
Edit: Worked! Woot! Thanks again tpbklake ... am now running Bell Gingerbread (2.28.666.3)!

do you have a link for this, every link i have tried dosn't work
I'll send you a PM - dunno if there are any rules against posting links or whatnot.
Is it worth going back to stock for this update or should I just keep my phone rooted? If its worth going back to bell stock can someone direct me to doing so? I got this phone from a trade of another phone and it already was rooted and had a mod so I'm not sure how to go back to stock

[Q] OTA Lollipop Update failing.

Hey guys
I tried to update my HTC One [m7] unlocked/international to the new Android Lollipop with the OTA update that got pushed yesterday. However, it keeps failing.
My HTC is rooted, and is currently running 6.12.161.9 (trying to update to 7.18.616.2). It is S-ON and has an hboot 1.57.
Now, the problem keeps appearing in the following way: (I have the correct stock recovery on the phone)
The phone starts the update process normaly. It goes to the recovery and the progress bar starts to move. However as soon as it reaches about 1/4 of its way (always the same), it stops the installation and returns to the recovery title screen (the red triangle and exclamation mark). When I then press volume up and power button to see the recovery menu, it gives me the following readout at the bottom on the console:
Code:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
L50QCT.01.102.008
Package expects build fingerprint of htc/vodafone_uk/m7:4.4.3/KTU84L/[B]366813.9[/B]:user/release-keys
or htc/vodafone_uk/m7:5.0.2/LRX22G/476210.2:user/release-keys;
this device has htc/vodafone_uk/m7:4.4.3/KTU84L/[B]366813.5[/B]:user/release-keys.
Installation aborted.
Write host_mode:0 done
It gives me this readout every time, and the only difference in expectation and device, is the bold part in the output.
The update expects 366813.9, the device has 366813.5. What does this difference mean? What is .9 and what is .5, and how can I fix this?
I would be very happy for any help possible. Thanks in advance!
- Cheers
Wrong stock recovery installed. OTA expect 6.12.161.9 (366813.9) recovery but you have 6.12.161.5 (366813.5) recovery installed.
If you can't find stock recovery 6.12.161.9, download OTA, select install later, copy OTA zip from Download folder to PC. Open OTA zip with 7-zip, open firmware.zip, extract out recovery.img <--- use this one.
Thank you!

[Q] Where can I find Tmobile US Stock Recovery 6.10.531.10?

Hellos guys,
I am trying to find the stock recovery for T-mobile US 6.10.531.10 (NOT 6.10.531.9) . Does anybody has it or point me on the right direction? I want to update my phone through OTA so I can get lollipop however I cannot find the stock recovery.
I am S-On all stock except for the recovery, I had TWRP so I can make backups. Now I want to install back the stock recovery so i can upgrade but I don't seem to find it anywhere. I managed to find the RUU but the recovery image is not inside the "rom.zip" on my Temp folder when I run it. These are the only files that it shows:
android-info.txt
dzdata_16g.hdr
dzdata_32g.hdr
dzdata_64g.hdr
tp_HMX852XD.img
boot_signed.img
dzdata_16.img
dzdata_32.img
dzdata_64.img
Am I missing something? Please help. I have tried to find it the whole day with no luck.

just run the Lollipop RUU, same as the OTA but its the full thing rather than an OTA: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-t-mobile/news/ follow the manual update instructions, download is at the bottom.
edit: it will wipe your phone, so backup anything you want to keep first.

Seanie, thank you for your reply. I need the stock recovery because precisely I was trying to avoid wiping my phone. I am just a very small step away to be able to update without wiping, I just can't find this stock recovery. Why is it that the recovery.img it is not inside the rom.zip RUU? Am I missing something?
Currently I flashed the stock recovery 6.10.5310.9 and i tried to install the OTA but when it gets to the recovery it looks like it starts installing moving the green line a little bit but soon after I get a red triangle and stops, which I am assuming it is because i do not have the proper recovery.
Any help so i do not need to wipe will be greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

ok, you cant take it out of the RUU.zip as its an encrypted RUU, so take it out of the OTA.
download the OTA as normal, but select install later, then plug your phone into the computer and copy the OTA.zip to your computer from your phone, its in the internal storage, downloads folder, its just a zip file, so once its on your computer, open it with WinRAR or whatever you use to open zip files and in there you will see firmware.zip, open that too and take out recovery.img, flash it like any other recovery, then reboot and try and update again.
If the OTA then fails again, it will be down to modified system files or root, you will have no choice but to backup and use the full RUU.

oh I see. I see! Great news! Good to know. So the OTA can be install with a newer stock recovery (matching the OTA I presume).
I am currently at work without my cell phone but I will try this, as soon as I get back home and post the results.
One last thing, to flash the stock recovery is as simple as "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (or whatever the recovery file .img name is), correct?
I do not need to lock the bootloader in order to upgrade using the OTA as long as everything else is still stock. ...I do have root though, but I also read that this shouldn't be a problem either, correct?
Thank you sooo much!

No need to lock the bootloader for an ota, root might be a problem as it modifies system files, just give it a go, and yes, the flash of the recovery is the same as any other recovery file.

Seanie, all went as expected! It worked. I was able to extract the recovery.img file from the firmware.zip inside the 7.18 OTA zip file that was downloaded to the internal storage. Then proceed to flash it as any other recovery with fastboot. Afer that, the OTA update installed with o problem. Having root did not mattered. I did have to root it again though.
Thank you so much for your support!!! :good:
Worked for me as well, thank you.

Recovery VS ROM for HTC m7

Hello, I flashed LOS with my m7 international version. Sadly, Lineage dropped the support. I then flashed back to stock ROM via twrp. However, the stock ROM always prompt me to install the OTA update and I couldn't because I replaced the stock recovery with twrp.
So, my question is can I just revert twrp back to stock recovery with the ROM being untouched. Or do I need to do so like this 100%?
Thanks.
If you can find the correct version of the stock recovery for your current firmware you can fastboot flash that.

How can I find the stock recovery? My version is: 7.18.708.21
However, I cannot find it on google.com.
please help.
When I typed "HTC One M7 stock recovery" into Google the first result I got was this XDA thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545227, so that's where I'd start looking.
As far as I can tell 7.18.708.21 is a HTC Asia HK software version. That thread has a recovery image for 7.18.708.2. I couldn't tell you whether the recovery changed at all between that and 7.18.708.21, so it's possible that that file will do what you want, but I cannot make any promises.
Otherwise you just have to try an RUU, as that guide you linked describes.
Yeah, I also got 7.18.708.2. However, I would not take the risk unless I found the right one. Thanks though.

T-Mobile HTC One M9 Not Receiving Nougat OTA. Unable to flash Nougat RUU as well

Folks,
I recently purchased a preowned HTC One M9 in good shape. The phone does not appear to have been rooted, s-offed or any such thing. It looks bone stock. It currently has Android 6.0 on it. and software number 3.39.531.41
It has been over a month since t-mobile has rolled out the nougat update for the HTC One-M9 and I have not received any update on the phone. I constantly keep checking if the phone has an update available but the phone always says no update available. I gave up on the OTA being rolled out for the phone so I downloaded the Nougat RUU which is 4.27.531.6 .
When I follow the procedure for installing the update I got a signature error 132 . Now I know that error shows up when the phone is rooted or is s-off or any such thing but my phone seems to be completely stock. Does anyone know why I cant install the RUU or receive OTA updates to Nougat for my phone?
I think I figured it out. I contacted T-Mobile support who told me to contact HTC since the HTC servers are responsible for pushing out updates. So I contacted HTC customer support and shared my IMEI with the representative. She looked up some information on the HTC database using the IMEI number and told me that my phone was a store demo phone and that demo phones are blocked from receiving updates from the HTC servers. Oh well.
Hello,
Just got the same phone with same error. If someone provides me with 0PJAIMG.ZIP, I can test and see how it goes. So far update from phone >> didn't work; RUU update >> didn't work. same error
Thanks
I had the same problem some time a go what you have to do is to check if its relock and has stock recovery. If yes first flash 3.39.531.41 RUU before you can flash the 4.27.531.6 or the OTA. But my receives the OTA alright but could neither install that or RUU

So it has to be locked with stock recovery? Then flash ruu 3.49 ad then the newest version?
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the info. However, I couldn't get into the recovery mode. Either from bootloader -> "Boot to recovery mode" or via command "adb reboot recovery", after the phone reboots, the screen will show a phone icon with triangle. Then after awhile the phone will restart normally. I can't get to step to do sideload the zip file.
I also put the above ota.zip on a micro SD card and load the card in the phone, then boot to download mode. In that mode, it shows the following 2 lines:
FILE /mnt/media_rw/ext_sd/0PJAIMG.zip
File NOT FOUND
Where do I find that missing file?
Thanks

I think your recovery file is damaged. Thou i am novice in this but i think you should run RUU of existing rom it may repair your recovery then try this method.
OK,
I found the 0PJAIMG.zip for version 3.39.531.7 in this forum "https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-one-m9/general/please-read-rooting-using-twrp-t3069022"
I put that on my SD card and was able to update the phone from Lollipop to Marshmallow.
However, after that update, the phone still won't update from Marshmallow to Nougat using the file RUU_HIMA_UL_N70_SENSE80_TMUS_MR_TMOUS_4.27.531.6 downloaded from htc website nor the OTA.zip downloaded from this thread. The phone keeps having the same Error [132] Signature Error. Or it won't go into the Recovery mode to do sideload of the OTA.zip. If the original Recovery file (from Lollipop) was bad/corrupt, wouldn't the Marshmallow update correct/fix that file?
So, do we have any other idea to upgrade the phone from Android 6.0 to 7.0? Does anyone have a 0PJAIMG.zip for 7.0?
Thanks

In order to OTA to work which is in this forum you have to be in 3.39.531.41 first find RUU of this version run it then go for OTA.
Noted that you wont be able to update from marshmallow to nougat using RUU you have to use OTA but for that you must be in version 3.39.531.41 .
Ok. I was able to install 3.39.531.41. I will try the OTA now

I updated to version 3.39.531.41 but I am still unable to get to Recovery mode on my phone. It keeps showing the red triangle with exclamation mark.
So, is that correct that I am now having two choices (besides obviously stay with Marshmallow)
1. Need to somehow fix the recovery mode on the phone? It is a demo unit so I don't know if that has anything with the recovery not working
2. Try to download the 0PJAIMG for 4.27 (Nougat) and install from sd card. I did find the file from AndroidFileHost website, but the phone gave error when it tried to load the zip file from download mode:
12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
FAIL 12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
Do you have a reliable source for the OPJAIMG file for Nougat?
I did a research on the 12 RU_ZIP_ERROR and found an instruction for AT&T from developer Blueberry who suggested "If you're on Marshmallow base, first of all you need to upgrade your firmware and then flash this 0PJAIMG zip file via download mode in otherwise you'll be getting "12 RU_ZIP ERROR" during the flash process. No Wipe Firmware Link: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120692233"
The above was for AT&T but I found the no_wipe zip for TMobile, however, I don't know how to upgrade the firmware on my phone using one of these files
the firmware no_wipe files are here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=134381
The file I downloaded is "firmware_tmous_4.27.531.6_NoWipe.zip", but like I said above, I don't know how to update the firmware.... Can someone give me some directions?
Update: I renamed the file "firmware_tmous_4.27.531.6_NoWipe.zip" to "0PJAIMG.zip" and tried to update from download mode, but the phone gave error: 8 RU_SIGNATURE_FAIL.
Another research indicated that since the phone is S-ON and Locked, these firmware wouldn't install because they were not signed. Where can I find signed firmware for this phone?
Thanks

To continue on to recovery mode, try this:
" If a device with a red triangle and exclamation point appears, Hold Power while pressing and releasing Volume Up to continue."
As for the 3.39.531.41 RUU, put the zip from this link into your external SD then boot into fastboot/download mode. From that point on the phone should automatically recognize the .zip and install from there.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911969398,
Thank you much! I will try everything you suggested now. I really appreciate your help!

I downloaded the RUU from above link [https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911969398], but after installing, the phone went from 3.39.531.41 back to 3.39.531.7. Was the above zip file really the 531.41 version?
I tried to reinstall the 0PJAIMG for 531.41 downloaded earlier, but the phone said signature error.
I tried to install using the OTA zip from this link [http://fotadl-az.htc.com/secure/OTA_...kwvabkx6lv.zip] from Recovery mode but the phone said "E3001: Package expects build fingerprint of htc/himaul_tmous/htc_himaul:6.0/MRA58K/690290.41:user/release-keys or htc/himaul_tmous/htc_himaul:7.0/NRD90M/869604.6:user/release-keys; this device has htc/himaul_tmous/htc_himaul:6.0/MRA58K/690290.7:user/relea
E:Error in /sideload/package.zip (Status 7)
Installation aborted
You have any idea to go back to 531.41? Since the OTA message seemed to indicate it expected a 531.41 version?
Thanks
Ok. I was able to get back to 3.39.531.41 by getting the 0PJAIMG from AndroidFileHost.
After that, I went to Recovery Mode (using pwr + vol up after seeing the red triangle), chose Apply Update from SDCard, selected the OTA file for 4.27.531.6. This time It didn't give any error, at the end it appeared to get stuck for a long time at the line Script Succeeded Result was [/preload]. After about an hour, I turned off the phone and on again, now it is stuck at HTC logo splash screen.
Questions here:
1. Was the phone really stuck at the "script succeeded" line?
2. Didn't I wait long enough?
3. What should I have done at that time when it stopped at that "script succeeded" line?
4. What should I do at this splash screen? It has been like that for the last 10 minutes
Thanks
