[Q] Roll back on OS? - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted a droid incredible, a galaxy nexus and most recently a LG G3. Is there a way to roll back an OS on kindle fire hd 7 from 4.5.3 to an earlier OS? I want to root it and flash some roms. I am no noob. I can work with computers as well. If someone could point me in the rite direction i would greatly appriciate it.

Search the forums, there are a lot of amazing people here who have done a lot of work to put things together for the rest of us. Least we can do is exert the effort to look for their solutions.

Windows phone 7 ROM's

So can anyone enlight me with what's the point of having a custom ROM in a Windows Phone 7 platform?
Some of the features I've seen under the development section adds multi language support, xap installs(not sure what this is), but I don't really see any major improvements.
Am I missing something here?

Many improvements, Android fanboys wanting to start trouble are not welcome here. Exact same can be said of the hundreds of copycat android roms.

I'm not a fanboy lol. I have an HD7 wanted to know what was the advantage of adding a custom ROM to my phone.
Thanks anyway

I apologize, my mistake. Custom roms now give the user a different look and the ability to sideload apps. Access to file system is also moving along nicely with unlocked roms. There are many advantages allowing for more customization of WP7.

I would also like to know. My buddy had his hd2 replaced w a hd7 and he wants to sell it. Im considering buying it and it would be my first wp7 device.
I want to veer away from android for ****z n giggles, but wanna make sure I'm not blowing money for no reason. I love custom roms, so please, what's the advantage, are there special apps that benefit from root access? Are there other devices that get more dev support? Or is the hd7 a good all around device? I'd be paying like 150 for my buddy's refurb which he didn't even take out of the box yet. Can't be that bad of a deal right?

$150 is a lot for the HD7 these days.
Sent from Galaxy Nexus (GSM)
If it's in great condition, 150 would seem fair, this device is getting more and more support as time goes on. Gen 2 devices are just starting to come out, so it is not really outdated yet.

New Bionic owner looking for tips!

Getting my bionic tomorrow, what are the first few things I should do to it, apps to get, or anything else y'all would suggest. I want to root it but don't know how.

if you want something you can flash roms and kernels with, you chose the wrong phone unless moto unlocks the bootloader
Lol well that was a lot of help. It's a replacement for my crap Samsung Charge or should I say the previous 4 replacements.

Get a spare battery. I got 2 with a charger for less than $13 on ebay with free shipping.

For tethering, try ClockworkMod Tether. I also installed Eclipse ROM 2.1 a few days ago and it seems to work pretty well, without any bloatware (which didn't bother me much on this phone anyway).

Hi thereisone. I also just switched over from the charge last week. I've been very happy with the bionic. I had the static problem with my radio, but I was also disappointed with the battery life, slow GPS, and general slow response on the charge. All these were improved on the bionic. Of course the screen isn't as nice, but I can live with it. Only real complaint is that the camera sucks.
Anyway, I've been writing up a guide for how to root and get to the latest and greatest. It can be hard to figure it all out because of out-of-date posts. Like others have told you already, we can only go so far right now, but if you just need a phone that functions without all the bloat you'll be alright. I'll have it up by tomorrow.
Get a 901 radio data is,very stady nit so hot on 893,

The other day I went to the verizon store and played with the Galaxy Nexus. I've been thinking about retiring the Bionic for the Nexus, bad thing is the Bionic was a birthday present from my family and I feel bad for ridding it. Anyways, to my surprise, it felt like the Nexus was running as fast and smooth as my Bionic was. I was kind of shocked honestly. So the only thing the Galaxy has going for it: unlocked bootloader, ICS, its a Nexus Device.
anyways hope that makes you feel a little better about having the Bionic.
Before there were any roms for the Bionic, I rooted it (there are guides on how to in the dev section) then found some free apps from the market that remove bloat.
If you are comfortable installing roms, there are instructions on doing so in the dev section but read them carefully and do not skip steps. I recommend eclipse 2.1. It's fast, it looks nice, and it has a much better data connection thanks to the 901 radio. It's a bit tricky to flash for some, but because you are on stock, you will have less of a problem.
Hope it helps!
Happy Droiding!
As stated above, I would make sure you have the 901 System Version. You can check that on the Settings->About Phone menu. It will read 5.9.901.XT875 ... The next thing would be to root it and then install a Custom ROM which is compatible with this version. AFAIK, you have to buy a MySQL app to modify one of the system settings to allow you to do the WiFi tether. You have to fake out the installed Verizon app. Sorry if you already know all of this but when you install the Custom ROM they generally recommend you clear all of the stored data so you will have to set up all of account usernames and passwords again for the apps that are in /system.
I rooted my phone before I did anything. I just took it home, plugged it into the computer and started the scripts I needed.
Good Luck.
It came with 893. Should I use forever root update then flash eclipse?

I can be considered a newb when it a to all this rooting. I know nothing so I'm leaning as I go. Following the guides I can find and useful users like y'all.
Thanks.

My instructions are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455888
Still updating a few details. Allow until this evening and then try it out.
I also just got my Bionic today as a replacement for my Charge. My Charge had an unfortunate accident and were out of them so they offered me the Bionic and LG Revolution. Like I'd really pick the Revolution over the Bionic? Lol
But looking forward to the guide cause I am completely lost when it comes to the Moto World. And also am looking to wifi tether.

I've had my Bionic for a few months, and have been recently resisting the .901 update because I didn't want to lose root. All that aside, followed this guide and it worked great!

How to port webOS

I read an article where it stated that since webOS went open source. Some developers are succesful in porting it ro android devices. I want to know how true it is and is there any flashable for our galaxy note???
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It will be impossible without proper sources for hardware drivers.
but you can try
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Web os itself may be fine to import, but it's still so new, as previous poster said it's the kernel that needs the real work per device.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If I knew how, i'd even help.

I was going to start a thread on this, but the search function turned this one up, recently Open WebOS has been spotted in the wild on a Galaxy Nexus and the Asus Nexus 7, so does this bring us any closer to a Note port? or even better a way to dualboot both similar to the HP Touchpad would be awesome! are their any devs actively working on this since i can't seem to find any info around the forums / internet in general, but i think there would be quite a lot of interest and plenty would be willing to test it if someone with the skills was able to make it happen
I like webos because its plain and simple and can do the basic required work if u succed in getting any info regarding its port then feel free to post.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Sorry to revive but if I had WebOS on my GT-N7000 it'd be like heaven in my palm!! We can't allow the Nexus to have this over us! Sorry to say but IMHO, WebOS smoothness and multitasking ability straight kills both android and iOS! (I have an iPhone, Note I, and Palm Pre). Sign me up if we need a team to get this going on our n7000.
Its also my wish to get the webos on my note or any other mobile device. I am now fed up of android and their spying data collection stuff. The permissions just feaks me out when a simple game says it needs to read the phone book and call logs. Wtf where the hell an app needs to get these permissions. The second is the location thing. they just make us use their os because of the wow factor. Ignoring what its doing to UA

I-957 Development?

Just curious if development for this device has been lost for our lowly 8.9 LTE? I know we never had any serious effort but I would love to have a good rom to run on this device. I ran the Danno Rom for a short while but had to go back to stock due to issues I can't remember now. This really is a perfect form factor device just need some Dev love for it. Come on guys this should be interesting because it is a challenge to find the right stuff to make things work on this device.
Orlando what say you? Have you moved on to a new device? Still using the I-957?

This whole forum is basically dead. But I too world love to see some new development. If only I was smart enough and had the patience and time I might try to learn. But I'm lacking the smarts and patience.

I have to say i am pretty happy with dan-htc's AOKP Jellybean build. Never expected a lot with this tab, considering my Note2 basically doubles processing and RAM. I'm just happy not to be stuck on Stock TW for my Internet browsing and reading lol.

It should be very easy to get the newest aokp build for this tab. It's above me but it's out for the skyrocket which is basically the same thing
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
We are doomed, I think we are better off selling this tablet and getting the international version that seems to have a lit more of support and many roms updated to choose from...

time for round 2

alright hard bricked my old g1 and im getting another tonight and another sometime in the future. not sure quite exactly what i did but it was bad and i was sad in the end, i only want to get a stable CM 6 or 7 on the device nothing fancy. can anyone lead me to a thread please? also i remember i had a problem with the recovery, every time i turned off the device it would get rid of CWM and get back stock recovey.
Just look at the stickies for rooting guides, and for an FYI I'll be selling off all my phones real soon (ol lady forcing me) this includes 20+ g1s all rooted and fully updated - pm me if you want and I'll share eBay links or whatever (not trying to use xda to sell)
And if you have issues or questions when rooting let me know, there are still a few of us who frequent the forums who will help
