Oh yeah, like they "rigorously tested" the 4.4.4 update that, despite being months behind the release on other carriers, still managed to reduce my battery life from "this easily lasts well into a second day" to "it's dead by the time I get out of work from just idling," even after multiple factory resets?

OK, so let me get this straight. My phone was happy and pretty solid. Battery life was decent and I rarely had to reboot it. I have gone several weeks without an issue or reloading it.
Now, in preparation for 5.0, they push 4.4.4 on me and the interface now crashes regularly, battery life is less than 10 hours and I have to reboot it about every two days. I have missed several calls trying to swipe and answer only to have it ignore my every attempt. How much worse can 5.0 be than the 4.4.4 I have now. Are they testing 5.0 as rigorously as they did 4.4.4? How about letting us go back a version until they can budget enough people to test 5.0?
Funny thing I've been really happy with 4.4.4 and only a few minor issues. Battery life has been the best so far for me.
I'm sure lollipop with be out by the end of March for AT&T anyways. My son in law has it on Verizon and is not really that impressed with it. I'd rather them get it as right as could be than rush it TBH.

I completely agree. My phone was pretty solid and my wife's too...now we are both ready to throw them out a window. No battery life, lots of reboots and lost calls. I'd rather have 5.0 sooner than later, but May 22 my Saygus V2 ships. I may be done with Samsung for a while.

After I got the OTA update to 4.4.4, my phone ran like crap! I downgraded back to 4.4.2, rooted and disabled all OTA apps. My phone is now running great on 4.4.2/NG3.

I replaced my phone and upgraded to 4.4.4 from stock NG3. Bluetooth issues that annoyed me such as when playing music from scratch from my radio, it would play some random ringtones. Had to manually select Google music. Downgraded to 4.4.2 and had major wifi issues due to OA1 baseband and older ROM. Realized I left re-activation lock on which wouldn't disable in 4.4.2. Flashed back to stock ND3, wouldn't boot. Did the NG3 to NCE downgrade with the reactivation lock on. Was successful and once I upgraded from NCE to NG3 stock, I was able to disable the lock. Flashed my NuclearFallout ROM back on and ran with it. This will be my last Samsung phone, I'm going Nexus next. Can't stand AT$T adding crap to my device without my permission when I'm running stock.
I can't even read the article on my phone, there's so many pop-ups, side load ads, and auto-start videos.
I will say that the 4.4.4 update pushed out to my S5 Active effectively killed my phone.
Windows ME was more responsive than this.

Never read or post links to sites that force you to mute your computer due to invasive ads. When you see sites that look like that with "news" stories, ads that adjust size as you're reading, ads that keep playing no matter how many times you pause, just hit that "x" button up there. Chances are wonderful that you didn't miss out on anything.
I just a week and half ago decided it was time to buy a house (living in a double wide for 14 years). Filled out loan preapproval, next day had answer. Met with my new realtor at houses. Saw five homes, 5th one was THE ONE. Put an offer, offer accepted same day. Escrow opened. Sent loan paperwork and down payment today. Escrow is 30-45 days. Moral of the story? I will have decided to buy a house and move in BEFORE AT&T gives lollipop to ANY Samsung device I own. At least I have something to occupy my time.

don't lament just yet, even tho it is rolling out to the AT&T Note 4 it is still version 5.0.1 and most of the die hard note 4 are sticking with the 4.4.4 at least until we have root or at least until there is a verifiable way to roll back to 4.4.4 if root is achieved. unfortunately for us Note4 owners currently there is no Odin firmware for 4.4.4 and AT&T is releasing 5.0.1 via OTA only.
just hang in the advantage you users have is there are devs with working L roms that you can flash once you get the official release and root is confirmed still working.

Google has released many leaks to what Android M will offer. T Mobile has leaked the 5.1.1 software that is expected to be pushed to Galaxy s6 and s6 edge, but we only know an expected time frame for the update. Nobody has an exact date or time with credible sources to back it up. Could we possibly be getting an Android M update soon after the push of 5.1? Or maybe (going out on a limb here) could T Mobile decide to suspend the update and hold out for Android M? (They've done this before with the s3 units.)
Probably not. M is only a preview right now and 5.1 is expected to drop in mid june

Fact is, we definitely are not going to see M on S6 anytime soon. Firstly it won't even be official until end of the year. Secondly look at the slow lollipop roll out last year, so we may get it early 2016.
Most importantly, we don't want them to do that...no update until M? This phone needs updates to fix several things, cell standby drain, volte drain, ram management, etc...

According to reports, international s6 will get 5.1.1 in mid June. So with any luck, we will see the update through our carriers by mid July .
As far as M , it won't be released till late October/early November. Since is not such a drastic update like KK to Lollipop we will probably see it by mid January

I completely agree that the phone needs updates like wifi calling and etc. I really hope we get the update to 5.1 as soon as possible, ad preferably, before July. I have a G3 running stock 5.1.1 currently, and the battery life is amazing (even running on a stock kernal) and I have heard a few rumors that Android M will include some security fixes and additions, as well as new multi windows and some new developer options to adjust over/under clocking of the cpu. I have high hopes for M. I hope that we eventually, on the stock rom and kernal, can do some of the M stuff on the s6. It's a great phone with great potential.

True about the potential of S6. Just shocks the heck out of me that Samsung didn't notice the ram management, or didn't think it a issue in the testing phase. At first it didn't bother me, but more and more (unless it's gotten worse) it's been shutting stuff down randomly while only doing like two or three things.
And then Google...I don't get them either. Why does it take as long as six months and longer for the roll out to get to some devices especially the new ones, note 4? I know carries have something to do with that as well but if you release it say October they should penalize carries if they haven't shipped it by end of December. The whole nexus thing first should be thrown out the window since they are now releasing main stream phones not just geared at developers.

Samsung makes great phones. Hell, they pioneered the phablet idea with the Note series. My only problem with them is that they miss key features very often. For example, the ram management on the s6 and the whole overload of TouchWiz on the s3-s5 units. My battery has (this week) been decently lasting me the most of the day. Standby drain is sometimes present, but that's when I know I have to end some processes via greenify without root permissions. I'm really looking to root after the 5.1 update to get the full effect of greenify, as well as deleting some bloatware. Right now, the basic greenify is saving me tons of battery life. I recommend it. My G3 had awesome battery life stock, and even better with my custom roms.

Now that Lollipop is out what are people's thoughts about it compared to a mofo-rooted KitKat? Do the benefits of an updated OS outweigh those of root (albeit partial, but wifi-tehtering and xposed works)? What would you rather have?
Has anyone here made the switch?
From experience on other devices, lollipop is great. On the other hand, why bother sticking on xda if you were going to stay on unrooted stock (which is where 5.1 ota takers are going to stay). I'm not sure if people realize the increased difficulty finding these exploits especially on lollipop.
I guess that's the million-dollar question. Is there anything in Lollipop that would make someone switch from a mofo-rooted KK phone to Lollipop?
No, I can't stand the intrusive ads, and need Wi-Fi tethering with my unlimited plan

If we were talking about an earlier version of Android then kk I would agree in principle, but Android is so mature at this point. I love being on the latest but most missing features between the versions can be added via third party apps or xposed. Very hard for me to give up root.
For me, there are two reasons I want Lollipop... so my fitbit will display text messages.. I guess it requires 5.0 or higher... and for ART.
But to lose xposed, to lose customizing the look (white on amoled.. so dumb), to lose editing my hosts file for adblocking, just so I can have my texts readable on my wrist and a slightly faster load times for apps.. no, just not worth it. I really hope someone finds a way to root LP, until then:
Mofo'd Kitkat all that way. Been rocking the same image I made since March 28 (I nicknamed it TurboTime )
I switch to Lollipop as Wifi didn't work quite well in KK. Drop, slow connection all the time. It's rock solid when I upgrade.
Still really missed the Xposed stuffs, but I still have my nexus to play with.
Also, isn't adblock slow the internet connection too? I realize it when I started COC, it's always freeze a few secs before loading.

Non root adblocking can be slower as (some) reroute all your traffic through their servers where it strips ads before it gets to you, thus creating another step.
With root you can edit the hosts file.. which basically.. when a page, app or anything wants to go to www.AdsAllOver.com your phone believes that url is located at the ip address of 0.0.0.0 instead of the real address... thus the ad never loads. No slow down of speed just the denial of seeing crap.

As of my post, votes are leading going towards 5.1... however those voters arent speaking up.. Im curious why they feel being on 5.1 made things better.
Ive seen it made a 'less than optimal' wifi, a better function.. better battery life...(still havent seen an issue with KK battery [ 12 hours on batt 2 hours on screen time, still 57%]) ... and outside of that, Im still unsure why the people that voted 5.1 vs root did vote that way.
I really hope someone has a good argument toward upgrading but at this point, I feel those 5.1 Turbos offer less than a 4.4.4. rooted Turbo.

Maybe people are voting for 5.1 because they feel the need to justify taking the OTA without thinking and losing root (sarcasm).
So far I haven't heard of any real advantages for upgrading yet (increased battery life, better camera, stronger signal strength, etc.). Maybe some folks who have upgraded can chime in?
I would really like to have Lollipop on my Turbo, but moving on without wifi tether, amplify, titanium backup, and gravity box is just not an option for me. What upsets me the most is that these functions need root to begin with. We really need all of these options in stock, especially app+data backup. It's a shame we have to resort to modding our devices just to get them to work the way we want them to.
Being one of the ones giving up mofo for 5.1. For me it came down to the only benefit root for me was ad blocking and Titanium to backup / freezer apps that I couldn't disable. The advantages of 5.1 are (hopefully) improved battery, advance calling actually working for better quality and simultaneous voice / data, location-based smart unlock, better integrated notification toggles, smoother overall phone and of course the itch to be on the latest version
So while I hope they figure out a way to upgrade the kernel and system files with mofo, for me the hurdles / odds didn't seem worth it given the above tradeoffs.
So that's my $.02 from a jumper.
Coming from 4 prior phone before the Turbo with WP Off, and able to do whatever I want, running Lollipop on my Galaxy S3 before I got my Turbo. I literally had the SAME setup via apps, configuration, interface, (Besides having ART on LP, and Dalvik on kk) between my Galaxy S3 w/ Lollipop and my Turbo 4.4 w/ 'root' where I did my own images and added in what I want.
When I got rid of my S3 to get my Turbo, I really didn't notice a difference. I really did like Lollipop because I had no issues with my apps like Xposed, Viper4Android. Then again going back to kk, no problem. Only thing that sucks is this god damn phone is plagued with the WiFi issue and there was never a hotfix that was released nor is there any build.prop fix or any config file we can edit to fix the issue.
Also depends what you do, I edited my own images, put in my own ad-block hosts file so I don't deal with that **** anymore. I have xposed, I edited my GPS .conf, I have a entropy fix running which makes it slightly snappier.
If you're like me and want these options still, stick with KK, but if you don't care for your own hosts file, new gps conf, more entropy, and Viper4Android, go ahead and update. Hopefully whoever takes the 5.1 OTA can get a mofo root if there is a exploit.
I'm definitely sticking with rooted Kk. I personally prefer the UI on Kk compared to lollipop, but it's the root that keeps me permanently on it. I have LP on my shield tablet, and am not a huge fan.
Are 32 votes enough of a sample to conclude that the slight majority of XDA'ers who own Droid Turbos would rather take the OTA and likely give up all hope of attaining root on Lollipop 5.1 (despite multiple warnings to not take the OTA and wait for a rooted IMG file that can be flashed with mofo)? Since only one "jumper" actually stated why he made the switch, is being on the latest and greatest OS really so much better, customization/control be damned (note that I did not say functionality)?
Surprising...

I've got a couple theories...
1. (Is yours from before) people need to justify taking the OTA, so will vote 5.1 just so they feel vindicated in their upgrade.
2. The 5.1 voters are just casual users that, maybe in the past have had customizable phones, thus know of xda, and saw this poll, voted for what they have and left.
3. Voters that have never truly customized their phone and are happy with whatever google decides the UI should look like.
4. Voters that think a higher number is always a better number.
5. Voters that found this forum from droid-life or other news outlets, that saw the poll, voted and left (extension of 2)
6. A group of crazies that find any poll on xda and decide to vote for the least logical solution.
I'm going with 1.. the biggest thing Im hearing about 5.1 is the battery life.. however Im also hearing most are factory resetting, which makes me wonder if they had factory resetted while on KK, if they would've see the same increase of battery life? (not installing apps you forgot you installed 4 months ago, don't use anymore, and it was those apps that were draining their KK battery)
I kinda / sorta feel bad for those that want to be on the cutting edge of tech and upgraded in excitement only to realize how screwed they just made themselves... (I mean we all found xda because at one point we all wanted to root / customize some phone right? And in upgrading, 5.1 users now have no way to root and customize)

One more:
7) Users who actually have a real need for Lollipop, whether it be application development or for a bug fix (even though I haven't heard of any major bugs in KK fixed in 5.1 but there might be some).
Highly doubt this would apply to the majority of people who voted for Lollipop
I will patiently be waiting for L to be rooted just as I did for KK. When MOFO came out and I was finally able to block ads and use gravitybox, any thoughts of lollipop just disappeared.
I heard that LP 5.1.1 is the most stable. We are stuck in 5.0.2 on Note 4. So is my Tab S. So is my Alpha phone. All at 5.0.2
Why is Samsung so slow? I think they might have abandoned us.
Samsung screw up on Note 5 and all the updates are slow.
Its a bad company.
It's not Samsung. They updated. The update is now with US carriers. They are holding it up. Sprint, I believe, already pushed the 5.1.1 update to their phones a couple weeks ago.

There are a few 5.1.1 custom roms available. But if you are not rooted or you need T-Mobile features, you'll have to wait for T-Mobile to push the update.
Best decision I ever made was to install a custom rom. I currently have 5.1.1 and do not have to deal with the ever slowing TouchWiz. After StageFright was announce the very next day the developer of the rom i'm currently using patched it up, the only downside is I did have to sacrifice Wi-Fi calling but soon enough Android M will come out and that will fix it.

Been using PopRocks v10x and it is amazing, fast and stable. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...procks-rom-v1-tw-rom-bases-tmo-stock-t3096286 ). Now if you want to try 5.1.1 there are many choices to choose from and can recommend them all.
Just me, but I think Samsung is in no hurry to push it 5.1.1. I guess there mentality is if they (note 4)users want 5.1.1, buy a note 5, which for me it ain't happening.
My note 4 came with 5.1.1. There should be a few customs floating around, such as TekXodus.
Samsung and the note 5 is very disappointed. I will stay on Note 4
FUN FACT:
Tmobile already has 5.1.1 and it is installed on Note 4s with the SM-N910T3. You can buy it in the store right now or warranty your phone and get it. Both of those options will be faster than waiting for the carrier to release it.
Tmobile gets a thumb down for this move. Uncarry that update Uncarrier.

Dang, I wish they'd send the update
I have gotten a few private messages plus some people have posted on the threads with the updates.
Do NOT update to 5.1.1 if you want to maintain root.
After days of tinkering, here are your possible outcomes (none of which are what you want):
A. Continuous soft reboot after upgrading via FlashFire updates.
B. Use ODIN to flash the system/boot partitions or properly done FlashFire update... Hoorah! You're on 5.1.1, but your fingerprint sensor and LTE are dead - plus no root.
C. You try to downgrade after B, and you no longer have signal under any circumstance.
Personally, I am now just going to flash the OI2 ODIN files in full and be done with it until a new root method is available. Sorry guys, I have tried everything that I can think of. As you can see above that something in the 5.1.1 kernel/system images require the latest bootloader which is what allows us to downgrade and get root from OE2 using PingPong.
There is a possibility of a new solution soon enough... see progress here for other models of S6: UniKernel
Yeah I ended up tripping knox in my attempts at working something out. Fortunately I was able to revert but thats only because I didn't dare try and flash the bootloader or modem. Man this is like a sick mind-game. I wish I would have had more experience with Samsung and AT&T before I bought this damn phone. This is my first phone on AT&T and my first Samsung. It was the perfect **** storm... I never anticipated this bull****, after this long... And I can't even get rid of the damn thing. Nobody wants it.

Forgive my ignorance here...I've not kept close track of the progress of unikernel. But it was my impression that without a custom recovery option, we are entirely SOL regarding custom kernels. Am I misunderstanding things, or did something change? I didn't see anything in the recent posts there that got my hopes up...

Well technically you can flash the kernel using FlashFire however a screen will stop you from booting.. Says something about at&t detecting modified software on your device please take to repair center blah blah

Gah! I don't even use custom roms. Stupid Textra App has this ****ty ghost notification that does not work on 5.0.x android. I would go to 5.1 unrooted but I just can't stand the thought of not being able to get rid of annoying notifications (wifi, etc). Plus all the custom easy hacks. So lame. Never going AT&T again. Why do they make it so difficult anyways? Tmobile doesn't.
They make the majority of their money from enterprise customers. These customers desire the locked bootloader as to avoid security risks. Since this is AT&T's main source of profit this is their main consideration. In short this phone and its software was not designed with our consumer use cases in mind. We are merely an after thought. I have waited too long I am jumping ship, just ordered a Moto X Pure and as soon as it gets here I am leaving this phone behind. Had it since launch and haven't been able to accomplish my original intention since then. Never buying from AT&T and also I am staying far away from anything with an Exynos chipset. Touch Wiz is a lag fest nightmare. For this to be pretty much the most powerful chip in the mobile space and to experience such a lag on it is truly unnerving. Samsung is all too eager to jump the Android band wagon all together and probably intend to do so as soon as they feel their tizen offerings stack up. And I sincerely hope they fail miserably. They are a good hardware company but they should just give up on software. They just don't get it at all.

Amen. Well said. Bravo.... I feel your pain. My first real SmartPhone was the Fire Phone with AT&T, exactly a year ago, and I took its enema for 10+ months before I finally decided to just add payments for the S6 and finally have a good phone I could root. So now I'm paying for both, and the more I search for help and answers on here, the more I feel like my kind aren't welcome. Not by the community, but by ATT and Samsung. Gee thanks.
Well, at least I have a new phone... I'm totally down to build and burn a 5.1.1 effigy with you, if you want.
Well I have already given up on this phone. See my post above. My sister has already agreed to take over the line and the phone payment and I just bought a Moto X Pure outright yesterday. Just waiting for it to arrive now.
I've been thinking of just doing an Odin back to stock (unrooted) and OTA update up to the newest 5.1.1 on my 925a for a week or so now. For anyone that is already on OI2, how is it working out for you? Is the phone still slow at times? Does the memory issues still exist?
I recall seeing an app a little while ago that is able to freeze/disable apps without root. What was that app? Has anyone tried doing something like this? How did it work out?

Thanks! Is it the "for Samsung" one? or do you have another one in mind?
How is OI2 working out for you?
Don't have oi2, I have an s6 active, no update yet.
AT&T just pushed out another update. We'll see how it performs. Still no 6.0 Marshmallow....

Mine just popped up too.
I don't get it why are they stalling
Somewhat dissappointing
The AT&T page doesn't even show this update yet. Somewhat of a mystery.
They just did:
Software update includes
Device security improvements
Disappointing...
i thought i saw there was a problem with 6.0 and not being to unlock phones with pin/ fingerprint after updating..

There's nothing disappointing about improved security when it comes to my mobile device.
For shame with that attitude.
Bad dog, that is a no-no.

Well, most of us are waiting for Marshmallow. We are almost the last ones to get that update.
However if this update makes you happy, that's cool.

Its pretty disappointing when every other major carrier in the US has released Marshmallow for the S5 weeks ago, and they're still sitting here dilly dallying with security updates. Fine security updates are good, but we want Marshmallow end of story.
Anyone care to share the update here? I have to use Odin, no AT&T account. Thanks.

It's too late. You are already a bad dog.
Its a little early...but based on some very heavy use yesterday...this update seems as stable as all the other Lollipop builds to date.
Based on what I've seen from other carrier flavors of Marshmallow on this device...about the only thing that Marshmallow is going to give me is the ability to sideload GoodLock and MAYBE better mem management in regards to suspended apps/multi-tasking. Its not like Marshmallow is going to magically give me 2 hours extra SOT and make me a ham sandwich or something...Lollipop builds have been stable, bug free, been delivering 4-6 hours SOT, relatively snappy performance and the ability to go many days without a reboot based upon my use...and I don't think that will change drastically with Marshmallow. I'll probably keep this device for another year/year and a half anyway...so it will happen when it happens.
Even though it is annoying that the locked bootloader is keeping me from root and the ability to modify a few things (like running AdAway and uninstalling bloatware) and due to the fact that I can't run Xposed on Lollipop with Samsung ROMS anyway...this phone on AT&T has been one of the most stable, dependable devices I've owned to date.

So.... anyone able to post the update file for this one? Those without ATT sim are in dire need of it...
