CLICK HERE FOR NATIVE ROOT
IF YOU ARE GETTING STOCK RECOVERY EVEN AFTER FLASHIN CWM, SEE THIS POST
STEP 1- FLASHING CWM ON YOUR PHONE
1.At first, you'll need the "adb" and "fastboot" tools. Get them HERE
2.Extract them into a folder, let's name it "Redmi2" (You can give your own name to the folder. That doesn't matter here.)
3.Now get the CWM .img file from HERE
You can use Philz Touch recovery also. Get HERE
4.Rename cwm.img or philz.img you downloaded above and as "recovery.img" and place it in the Redmi2 folder.
Now the folder will look like this-
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5.Press and hold "shift" button and right click in the blank area of the folder and click on "open command promt window here". The command prompt will open.
6.Now turn off your Redmi2. Wait until it vibrates. After it's vibrated press and hold "Volume down and Power" keys together until it boots into "fastboot mode". Now connect the Redmi2 to your PC/Laptop through USB cable in fastboot mode itself.
7.Get to the command prompt now.
Now type: " fastboot devices " (without these- " " )
Like this-
8.Once you enter that command, you will get a non-empty name for the device meaning the device is connected. Proceed to enter the next command
9.Now enter the next command: " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img "
Like this-
10. Now this ends...
Type the last command: " fastboot reboot "
Like this-
11.Now your phone will reboot with ClockWorkMod(CWM) installed. CHEERS...
STEP 2- ROOTING YOUR PHONE
1. Firstly get the SuperSU.zip from HERE
2. Now copy the downloaded zip to your sdcard (not in any folder just in sdcard)
3. Boot into CWM recovery by turning off the phone and pressing "Volume UP and Power" button together after the phone vibrates.
4. Once CWM main menu is displayed, select "Install from zip" and browse to the zip that you downloaded earlier and select it.
5. Install the zip. If you get any warning, ignore and proceed.
6. After the installation is complete, reboot your device. (I think you can do that)
7. VOILA..!!! YOU ROOTED YOUR REDMI2

Ok my fault, It looks I miss the notification MIUI that ask me to allow my pc to dev mode...
Now I have another issue:
After I flash the recovery with flashboot I reboot into recovery but I still have the default one ... not CWM any idea what could be wrong ?
( I have already did this procedure on another phone, same issue but after doing it a couple of time something make the difference )

get "Flashify" app from playstore and first take backup of stock recovery and then flash the cwm with it. Thats it..
Actually I didn't knew this method before i made this guide..
Anyway, fastboot gives us a different feel, doesn't it? :v
wait I don't know flashify but it looks it needs root to flash the recovery ... but I think I need cwm to root ... so I think this is not gonna work ...
Ok got it, this may be useful to anybody face the issue with recovery:
I discovered you can workaround the issue in this way:
Temporary boot into CWM:
HTML:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Root the device using CWM
Flash CWM using flashify
[ CWM when you log out ask you for root so maybe it is not necessary to use the zip file ( but I'm not very expert so maybe I'm wrong)]
You can install GAPPS with CWM `gapps-kk-20140606-signed .zip` but be careful, whenever you update MIUI you will look all software installed using CWM. ( superSu and GAPPS for example )
thanks
thanks!

Okay bro :good:
I'll update the OP
I confirm #postadelmaga the CWM recovery does not stay, the only way to do access it is the fastboot boot recovery.img Here's how I succeeded with two phones now.
power on, start wifi, do Miui updates
install ADB or the files above on PC
reboot to fastboot with voldown+pwr
now comes fastboot boot recovery.img
in CWM, sideload SuperSu and Gapps
connect you preferred VPN (if in China)
install and update all Google apps needed
delete most Chinese apps

Hi buddy could you plz port touchwiz from galaxy prime?
The simpler solution is to use the xiaomi update tool and flash a developer rom that has builtin root.
http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/5-4-10.27429/
howto & root from permissions menu:
https://watchpage.wordpress.com/201...redmi-note-4g-developers-roms-version-miui-6/
But to have the cwm running on the phone is always a safe bet for some recovery actions.
not working.
I tried this method. its stuck with flashing the recovery image. always showing flashing the recovery image.... that's all.

Nice tool, I'll test it as soon as I'll be home.
Edit: Your toolkit works like a charm. This is the easiest way to flash kernels/recoveries I've ever used.
Doesn't work: unknown compression method in winrar,winzip and standard windows extraction program!

Try it with 7-zip.
I compressed it using 7-zip.....
btw i'll see to make it work with winzip, winrar and other compression software.
Update
I'll update a compressed version which will be compatible with all compression software soon.
Edit: UPDATED
Huston we've got a problem. It's something wrong with my port...but what is the connection between a port and a recovery flash ?4

there are two reasons for this error:-
1. when no device is connected
2. when HTCSyncManager.exe is already using adb servers

I tried to install the Prometheus kernel too now. It wrote Writing Successful but when the phone tries to boot it's stuck at the white HTC screen with the red text (This build is for development purposes only ...). What should I do?
EDIT: I tried to restore to a previous backup, I tried to install a custom ROM I had on my SD Card, none of that worked.

But thats working with my phone......
I tried installing Prometheus Kernel and it was successful....
Try installing the kernel manually.
1. Switch Off your phone and then boot into fastboot mode.
2. Connect your phone to the computer.
3. Open a command prompt in the "tools" folder.
4. Run the following command
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" (without quotes)
5. restart your phone with this command
"fastboot restart"
Tell me whether that worked or not.
Taking the case of the backup or flashing the ROM which recovery did you flashed???
I would recommend you to flash the CWM 6.0.3.0 TOUCH recovery which doesn't till now has a bug.
For this repeat the steps in this post and instead of step 4 just run the following command:
"fastboot flash recovery recovery_touch_6_0_3_0.img"
Then try to flash the ROM.
If it says "Install from sdcard failed" or something like that then retry downloading the ROM.
If nothing works then try FLASHING STOCK ROM...
Edit: How can a restore fail ? What error does it show? Did you change the recovery? Are the recoveries different i.e. the one with which you backed up and the one which you are trying to restore????

Hello,
I know there are some tutorials for this already but I felt like they missed out a few steps that might not be obvious to some who are new to this.
This tutorial applies to all of Android One Device (Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V Blue, Spice Mi-498 Dream Uno).
Unlocking bootloader will lead to formating of your phone. The stuff inside your sd card is safe but all your apps and their data will be deleted.
Unlocking bootloader:
1. Download Universal ADB Driver installer from here.
2. Connect your phone and run the Universal ADB Driver installer. Click 'Install' button and a warning should pop up. Just click "Install anyway" and it should look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Download ADT Bundle from here for Win-32 Bit and from here for 64-Bit . If you are unsure which version of windows you have just download the 32-Bit one.
4. Extract the zip file in your C:\ drive like this (You can install it wherever you like but this tutorials assumes this location for simplicity). Add adb and fastboot to system path by following this tutorial . This will allow you to run adb and fastboot commands from any location on cmdline.
3. Switch off your phone. Now, Press POWER BUTTON + VOLUME UP button for about 5 seconds. A menu should appear. Note: VOLUME UP allows to navigate the menu (move down the menu). Press VOLUME DOWN button for selecting/choosing fastboot. On your phone, it should say something like
Code:
=> FASTBOOT MODE...
Connect your phone to the computer if it wasn't already.
4. (Assuming Win 7) Click on start menu > Search for 'Command Prompt' and right click and select 'Run as Administrator'.
5. On command prompt, Type:
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows something, that means we can proceed to unlocking bootloader. Otherwise, it means that the driver was not installed correctly.
6. Now, Type the following commands:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot format userdata
fastboot reboot
Now, your bootloader is unlocked.
Install a custom recovery.
1. Download custom recovery from this thread.
2. Place the download file, 'recovery.img' file in C:\ drive. (Again, you can place it anywhere but this tutorial assumes this path).
3. Run the following command (Assuming already in fastboot mode again. If not, follow the above steps to go to fastboot mode). :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
After doing so, it should look like this:
4. Reboot your phone and you are done by typing:
Code:
fastboot reboot
Now, you have installed CWM custom recovery. On to installing root.
Rooting your phone:
1. After installing custom recovery, download Super-Su .zip file.
2. Place the .zip file on your sd-card. If your computer doesn't show your phone as MTP device, download the drivers from here.
3. Boot into recovery, by pressing POWER OFF + Volume UP button for 5 secs and choosing Recovery by pressing Volume Down (NOTE: Use Volume UP for menu navigation)
4. After booting into recovery, Choose 'Install Zip'. You can use Volume UP and Volume Down for navigating here and Power Off button for selecting a menu item.
5. Now, select 'choose zip from /external_sd' and not '/sdcard'
6. Select the Super-Su zip file you placed on your sd card and install it.
Now, Reboot your phone. It might say something like 'su may have been removed' but ignore and press 'No'.
Tutorial Complete
Let me know if there are any errors in this Tutorial.
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. Can you explain the necessity for using "fastboot format userdata" given "oem unlock" command in addition to unlocking the bootloader clears user data.

What do I do now?

A lot of people ask how to gain root on the Mi Note Pro without actually searching the posts so I decided to make a quick tutorial on how to do it. This is the way I have done it and I have found it to be the easiest way!
1st Method (THE EASIEST AND SAFEST!)
1. Go to http://en.miui.com/download-273.html and download the Developer ROM
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. If you have downloaded the file through your phone it will be in the Download folder, if not plug your phone into the PC and move the .zip file over to your device.
3. Open Updater app, tap on 3 dots to open the menu and tap on Choose update package
4. Navigate to where you have put in the zip file and click on it and let the phone update. (This will wipe all your data apart from pictures etc.)
5. Once it has loaded go through the setup. Open Security app > Permissions > Root Access.. There you are all done
Make sure you open an app that requires root access first before going to Security app as it will not show up on there.
2nd Method (Advanced Users!)(Temporary TWRP Recovery)
Requirements:
fastboot driver (Link attached)
twrp.img - https://mega.nz/#!nR0jHZqL!2cksl ... 5H76ut8UVtnu97HHAEo
supersu - https://download.chainfire.eu/740/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip
common sense
mi note pro!
1. First of all download all the things you need. Which are fastboot driver, twrp and supersu. All links are above ^ Copy SuperSu over to your device and keep other files on your PC
2. Power off your device and turn it back on by holding Power button and Volume Down at the same time. This will get you into fastboot menu.
3. Woohoo great now what you will have to do is plug your phone to your PC using a usb cable.
4. Open up the Command Promt and navigate to the location of your fastboot driver. Mine is C:/adb so I would type cd C:/adb in the command promt
5. Now type in fastboot devices just to make sure that your device is listed correctly.
6. Extract the TWRP zip so you have just the .img file. Place it inside same folder as fastboot. I tend to rename it to twrp.img (makes lifes easier)
7. Type fastboot boot twrp.img
8. Now your phone should boot into TWRP!! Go to install and flash the SuperSU zip.
9. Reboot and you are all rooted with Stock Recovery and Stable ROM!
3rd Method (Advanced Users!)(Permanent TWRP Recovery)
Requirements:
fastboot driver
twrp.img - https://mega.nz/#!nR0jHZqL!2ckslQxV-ODWnswRYpfDCp2M5H76ut8UVtnu97HHAEo

8. Now your phone should boot into TWRP!! Go to install and flash the SuperSU zip.
9. Reboot and you are all rooted with TWRP recovery, the only problem is that your OTA updates will break. You can flash them manually, when Updater downloads an update go into TWRP>Install and navigate to downloaded_rom folder
In case you need to go back to stock Recovery because you have flashed TWRP Permanently please follow instructions on this thread.http://en.miui.com/thread-124319-1-1.html
GREAT! EASY!
Need to wipe cache or data?
Nope no need to do that

Well their Root Access works a bit different to SuperSU instead of popping up with a box promting you to give root access what you have to do is open the app the requires root access, do an action that needs root access then you go to Security > Premissions > Root Access and you have to grant it then.
Is only way to root to do a full wipe?
Can we still do normal updates after installing this developer rom?
Yup you get newest weekly updates and they work perfectly fine! I'm on 5.7.2 currently
Updated.
Is it equally safe to flash the latest 1.0.0 supersu from chainfire? Is there any compatibility constraints? or are all version compatible with all devices? thanks for shedding some light into this
Can you use Flashify and install twrp and supersu or is supersu not needed using method 1? ?
sent from mobile thingy
Super su is not needed using method 1 as they use their own root manager.

Boot into fastboot mode and install the latest version of TWRP, which is 2.8.7.0. You can download it from the TWRP official website.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-file-name.img
Boot into recovery and connect your phone to the PC.
Download any ROM from the forum, transfer it to the phone and flash it. Don`t since we don`t know anything about your previous ROM wipe cache, dalvik, data and system before flashing your chosen ROM.
Since you`re S-On, extract the boot.img file from the ROM zip and flash it manually in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot phone and enjoy.

No need to extract anything. S-on doesn't matter for kernel flashing on this phone. So, flash ROM.zip and enjoy

"any ROM" from the forum won't work on his phone. For example, his actual firmware is way to old to run roms based on Sense + Lollipop. With this firmware version (2.24.401.8), he is limited to JellyBean or Kitkat Roms.
Since you`re S-On, extract the boot.img file from the ROM zip and flash it manually in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Won't hurt but not needed on the M7 (unlike some other HTC phones). The kernel partition isn't secured and is flashed with the rom from twrp.
@zuppiger
If you want the phone back to stock and be able to intall ota updates (or if you want to install a custom lollipop + sense rom), flash this rom using twrp recovery. Select "yes" for stock recovery and stock radio, select "no" to root. then reboot the phone to the OS, install all the ota updates (a lot) until your version is 7.19.401.30. Then you can use the phone like this or you'll be ready to flash a lollipop custom rom. Otherwise you can go like suggested above but with older (JB or KitKat) Sense rom or any CM/AOSP roms.
Thanks guys.
but i think i might need some more help.
i downloaded the sdk manager to install TWRP, but when i try to write "adb reboot bootloader" it says "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" (not entirly sure if this is the correct translation, in german it says the command is either wrong or could not be found)
i think it could be because of some driver issues.
any advice??

Download the android sdk tools:
https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other
Make sure you have the latest htc drivers installed:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/2lyl151pt5pah2v
Make sure you don't have HTC Sync installed on your computer, if yes, uninstall it since it will interfere with fastboot/adb commands
To use adb or fastboot commands, open a command window from the same folder where adb.exe and fastboot.exe are located on your computer (C::\Programs\Android SDK Tools\platform-tools). To start a command window from this folder, hold your left "shift" key and right click a blank space in that folder, then in the contextual menu, select "open a command window here".
Don't forget that adb commands can only works when the phone is booted in the OS with "USB debugging" turned on from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. Fastboot commands only works from the bootloader (in the fastboot menu).

Thanks. I installed everything like explained.

Well without any connectivity to the phone there is nothing we can do unfortunately. Might worth to try on another computer. Otherwise if you are 100% sure that the problem isn't the usb cable, the drivers or the computer then the phone usb port might be broken. This can be replaced (probably the "easiest" part to replace on that phone), you'll need to open the cover and replace that small usb/front mic board.
But the fact that your phone says FASTBOOT USB when in bootloader makes me believe its more a driver/computer problem since it would only says FASTBOOT if there were no connection detected...
thanks a lot for your help. I don't think I will get it working again anytime soon.
But i will look for a way
Hi I've been trying to root this phone all day and I'm getting to the stage were this phone might fly out my window if i can get this sorted soon so I'm asking for some help with the issues I'm having i managed to unlock the phone i can boot into fast boot but i cant boot into twrp i have read numerous guides but I'm still stuck and Iv never really used command prompt either so I'm lost with that if anyone can talk me through this

Are you on miui MM or N?
I'm on miui global 8.2|stable 8.2.2.0 (naamieb)

I'm assuming you have usb debugging, adb drivers and all set up.
If you've set any password or pattern lock or PIN, remove it
Download this https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8rqkXJNwRqLa1JIY1B5TGpkN2M
Extract to your desktop
Download latest twrp 3.1.0-x . Link is available in another thread in this forum
Place the downloaded image on your phone's internal memory
Power off and enter fastboot mode. Connect to your PC
Open the folder you had extracted earlier. Rename the recovery image to twrp.img
Press shift+right click and open command window
Execute this code
fastboot devices (to make sure if phone is being detected properly.)
fastboot boot twrp.img
Now it will boot into the recovery. The recovery is in chinese by default. In the main screen, select the sixth option which is settings, then select the rightmost tab on the next screen and change the language.
Next install the latest twrp image you had placed on phone memory earlier, select "Recovery" and reboot. You will have installed twrp permanently.
Then flash supersu 2.79 and you're set
when I extract the files it dosent create a folder just the files I can just make the folder but what do I name it also theres no recovery image file

Just create a new folder on desktop and extract to it. The file named ZCX-TWR-3.0.2-X... Is the image file which you need to rename to "twrp"

You're having issue with copying files to your phone storage?
Reinstall the Xaiomi drivers
how do I reinstall the drivers, also when the phone is connected to the pc if I go to the phone it says portable media player and its empty inside.
and when I go to command prompt and type fastboot devices I get a code then fastboot and then I type fastboot boot twrp.img it says could not load twrp.img : no error
I can't get this working i done all in you guide i have downloaded the drivers but still can't get by the phase i posted above what do i do next
Sent from my MI 5 using Tapatalk
It's okay if it shows portable media player but if it's not showing any files inside it, you have a problem. Go to developer options > enable USB debugging and click Revoke USB authorisations. Device drivers install automatically when the device is connected but you can get them seperately as well, just search for mi 5 drivers and install them. Now connect to PC and see if you can access files on your device. If you can, proceed with the guide I've given
When you say device drivers install automatically when the device is connected do you mean they install to the PC
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I have installed the drivers as far as I'm aware

Hi I'm still not able to install/flash twrp so i can root my device i think it's something to do with the device not the pc as phone storage is empty any ideas what i should do
Sent from my MI 5 using Tapatalk
download mi flash http://api.bbs.miui.com/url/MiFlash
install mi flash if you are on windows 8 or above, you need to disable driver singnature enforcement - how to? google it.
during mi flash installation some windows will pop up, just click install this driver anyway. after installation go to c: > xiaomiflash > source > thirdparty > google > android then shift + right click > open command window here. Power off your phone and boot into fastboot then connect to pc. On command window type fastboot devices if xxxxxxx fastboot or something show up on next line, you successfully install fastboot driver.
I have already done that and got f******9 fastboot
then I type fastboot boot twrp.img and I get
cannot load 'twrp.img' = no error
that's exactly what comes up in command prompt and that's as far as I can get also if I boot into recovery I get 3 options reboot, wipe or im assistant so twrp has not installed,
iv been at this for 3 days now and im not any further than I was back then
See if i factory reset my phone and start fresh would i loss my unlocked status

Try to install twrp, fastboot flash recovery xxx.img.
And if you want temporarily, fastboot boot recovery xxx.img.
If you are on miui, you must use zcx twrp or else it won't boot.
Good luck.

I think something is wrong with your twrp.img. Try redownloading. Use latest twrp from twrp.me or zcx from afh.
fastboot flash recovery xxx.img, then disconnect the phone. Press and hold power+vol_up until you see mi logo.
