I recently got an O2 XDA IIi (Alpine) and have fiddled about with it a bit, not gone as far as flashing the ROM or whatever. Havn't even paid for it, so don't really want to totally screw it just yet.
What I have done is transfer some songs to my SD card, and I listen to them whilst travelling to work. I just put WMP on to play, and manually disable the backlight at the moment, but its still possible for buttons or the screen to get pressed.
Simply put, short of getting a full case for it or turning it off (which stops Media Player playback) is there anyway to lock the touchscreen and hard buttons, ie: like the original Nokia Menu > * keylock? I will eventually get a case for it, but right now I've got -zero- money.
I've searched as far as I'm able this evening, and have come up with nada!
I've got a quick fix for this, in that I set my PDA to password-lock at 0 minutes, turn off the backlight manually and then turn it off and on again.
Is there a simpler way to accomplish this?
On your way to work, you could also read the manual whilst listening to the sweet music. Then you would realise that your "solution"is not the best you can find
Seriously, you can set a hardware button by clicking on Menu>Options in windows media player and set hardware button for whatever you want 8)
That works fine, but it doesn't have any keylock function. The closest is "toggle screen", but that doesn't disable any of the hard buttons (The hangup/pickup, camera, notes, calender, contacts buttons)
Also, it'd be hard to read the manual when I'm cycling to work
I use GSPlayer http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/
It is lot lighter, stable and has better playlist support. It has shut-off screen and buttons lock option that you can assign to a h/w button. Very handy.
Is there an MPEG4 AAC codec/plugin for GS? I've got TCPMP at the moment with the AAC codec from rareware.
Also got a free leather case from work, so it's not too much of a problem now.
Tried ScreenLock? http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14621
It's freeware.
I used to have another locking app on my XDA, but lost it when I hard reset, and now I can't remember its name Its icon was a big yellow padlock though, and it let you lock the keys by clicking on the shortcut in the Start menu, and you pressed and held down a combination of keys you set up during the installation process, which would unlock the device again (I chose the top button + the action button, for simplicity's sake).
Previously i used Resco Audio. Because it has automatic screen toggle function, and also, when riding bike or driving, it easy to skip songs by pressing either the camera or recorder button.
But for now i just stick to WMP10 since the volume control is differentiated with the phone's volume control. Unlike Resco Audio, when i try to lower the sound using hard button, the phone volume also lowers at the same time... making me missed my important calls. OTOH, I use SPB pocket plus, and put the screen toggle button on the today's screen. Hope my solution could solve your problem. TQ
Use psShutxp
Do a google search for psshutxp (make sure you get the one for a QVGA screen (NOT VGA)). The site is in Russian, but there's also an English version of the website. It's a free app that simulates the "Log off" screen of Windows XP. When the "Log Off" screen pops up, there's a button (the left one) that says "Light Off". It turns off the screen (not just the backlight) and prevents any "input".
I'm listening to Erasure on WMP using this. It should work for you. It does not disable the hardware buttons (i.e. if you press the contacts button, the Contacts application will be launched (but it will not turn the screen back on)) but I don't see that as a big issue.

Is it accomplishable at all with the Kaiser? I don't like the NON Stop vibrate.. but if theres any way to change how it vibrates (ie: pulse) that would be GREAT.
Thanks

I agree!! I keep my phone in my front pocket (get your minds outta the gutter!!), and the non-stop vibrating notification isn't as noticeable as my pulse-vibrating razr. I know that you can customize the notifications, but the shortest vibration is 1 second. When you soft-reset the phone, there is a quick vibration, so it appears that pulse vibrating IS possible. It's just a matter of how.

Sorry, my mind is in the gutter and that just sounds rude - lol
But if you find an answer share the wealth
ive also been looking into this, all i came up with was this information which suggests that (after playing with various different scripts) that you cant get the vibration to turn on then off(wait) and on again while the ringtone is playing, it seems that the ringtone must play all the way through before it steps over to the next code in the script so from a regisrty point its an either or case right now.... anyway have a play.... maybe theres another way in which we can get the vibrate to execute from a different script than the ringtone...
Change ringtone/vibrate/LED flash characteristics
If you would like more control over how your device rings/vibrates/flashes its LEDs on events, you can can change the Script values of these events. For example, for an incoming call performing 'activate device, play ringtone, wait 3 seconds, repeat':
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script = "apw3r" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
For performing 'active device, set volume to 33%, play ringtone, set volume to 67%, play ringtone, set volume to 100%, play ringtone (no repeat)':
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script = "ac33pc67pc100p" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
The following are the full codes available to you. Please note that all the codes are executed simultaneously except after a ringtone play / wait code. E.g. 'v1p' will vibrate and play at the same time, while vibrating for 1 second. But 'pv1' will play the ringtone through all the way first, then start vibrating for 1 second.
a = activate device
cN = set volume to N in percentage max volume
fN = flash notification LED for N seconds
p = play ringtone. Note that this will play the ringtone all the way through before continuing with the next code.
r = repeat. Note that this should be the last code in your Script string, if used at all.
vN = vibrate for N seconds
wN = wait for N seconds. Note that the device will wait this long before continuing with the next code.
anyone figure this out?
I have been playing with these settings and what I ended up with was no vibrate at all. Moreover it seems to reset to original script every time you switch between call notification modes. Something of this sorts seems to be acomplished with kaiser tweak (vibrate 3x and then ring) but it is not quite it. And you cannot permanently change registry script for this either.
So, so far tough luck.
so nothing at all?
SOLUTION
it's possible look:

This is from another thread. It works for me. You must install MortScript in order to make Treovibe work completely.

You can make the phone vibrate just as u want it to with a bit of tweaking.

yeah! I have ideas for games but unfortunatly not the possibilities to write the soft
Read this article for more information about the SDK:
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7477.html
Let's try this in VB.net, as soon as I manage to get it to work I will try to write some games (don't know if I can but I will try )
I hope someone can create some kind of calibrating tool, mine needs to be calibrated really bad.
I'm still working on a new app which uses the sensor, but it'll takes a bit time, until i can release it.

ahaa.. godd news. v all r waiting.
This really does allow developers to start making some killer apps for our diamon. Carnt wait to see what pops up over the next few weeks!!
Hi I've a idea is:
1) When shake on vertical (UP => Down => UP) then LOCK the phone
2) When shake on horizontal (LEFT => RIGHT => LEFT) then UNLOCK the phone
I think this is so cool when you use the phone ^_^
So, here is my app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406769
@Wolfblood: I can do this, if i have time, because it is not so different than my new app. Instead of changing the profile, i would change the lock status.

Maybe there could be a sticky thread with links to the apps which make use of the g-sensor?
I am about to develop a very, very simple spirit-level app for teh diamond just to get used to the sensor api for C# http://blog.enterprisemobile.com/2008/07/using-htc-diamonds-sensor-sdk-from-managed-code/

That feature was on the Athena .. VueFlo I think it was called
Would be pretty sweet indeed.
One question though .. if we had more than one app making use of the tilt sensor, so say Gsen and the Profile switcher (haven't tried the latter yet, sounds great though), would they both work together?
Very nice very nice, the idea by Mr. Stesa, ill like my diamond to wake and .... !
peace.
Can somebody post a "Hello World" package with the included dll for VisualStudio 2005?
Tilt Sensor Calibration
I think a VERY usefull application will be a sensor calibration app, may Diamonds including mine, have sensor declination.
You can test it laying diamond without backcover in a flat table, you can se if Teeter ball´s stay without moving or it´s going to anyway, in my case, it going down and to the left.
I Don´t know if this calibratión can be stored in registry and make it permanent, but this would be great. Calibration app only have to ask user to put diamond in really flat an leveled surface to make the work.
Thanks for this great stuff.

Hi Sushilange,
Thanks for you hear my voice ^_^
Today I've think more what can we do on Diamond. Then I think maybe we can add function key + shake to do more. Like:
1) Hold Down the Vol Down Key + shake horizontal = Play Next Music/SMS/Email/Photo
2) Hold Down the Vol Up Key + shake horizontal = Play Previous Music/SMS/Email/Photo
3) Hold Down the Action Key [The Round Button] + shake to Right = Move the TouchFLO3D Tab to Next Right Tap
4) Hold Down the Action Key [The Round Button] + shake to Left = Move the TouchFLO3D Tab to Next Left Tap
5) Hold Down the End Key + shake = Close all application
6) Hold Down the Phone Key + shake = Open the Contacts
7) Hold Down the Back Key [←] + shake = Switch to Next Running application
8) Hold Down the Home Key + shake = Open your favorite application
9) Hold Down the Power Key + shake = Turn the LCD in WHITE and MAX the Backlight, So Diamond become a supper flashlight!
10) When not press any key + Rotation = Auto-Rotation just like GSen
See the Diamond can do a lot of things and iPhone can go back to home
Maybe if can open those setting for user then they can custom the action what they need will be best for all people ^o^
Sushilange, You are very cool and you creating a very cool tools too ^o^
Shake to Wake UP
I'm one of you guys waiting to see any app that will wake the device up from stand by just by shaking it. If anyone has any info please share it. Thank you.
My apologies if I've missed an answer to what seems like a fairly straightforward question. I searched around and found the question asked a few times over the past few years, but unfortunately no satisfactory solution. Perhaps this has now changed?
Does anybody know of a shortcut to COMPLETELY shut down / power off the Kaiser? i.e. the equivalent of pressing and holding the power key, then selecting "YES" at the "Power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them. Do you want to continue?" warning (sorry for overemphasising this but in previous threads people have offered answers which referred to the screen off / semi-power off / suspend state - not what I'm after in this instance).
psShutXP is a useful program but the "Shut Down" option does not completely shutdown my Kaiser - i.e. it wakes immediately on sliding the keyboard or pressing the power key.
I have seen suggestions that \WINDOWS\PowerOffWarning.exe might be the solution - I cannot get this to run from Total Commander or File Explorer, nor can I get it to run from a shortcut. Is it protected in some way as a system file?
If possible I'd like to achieve this without installing any software, or at least just installing something with a very small footprint - i.e. not iLauncher, Wisbar etc (which are fine pieces of software but I like to keep my machine as fast and lean as possible). I'd be quite happy with simply being able to raise the Power Off Warning mentioned in the first paragraph with a shortcut, rather than having to having to hold the power key down. As part of my job I need to frequently switch my device completely off. I am running WM6.1.
Many thanks and again, my apologies if I've missed an obvious answer to this. My portion of humble pie is on the table in front of me, ready to be eaten...
http://tiltsite.com/2008/04/tiltsite-software-spotlight-psshutxp/
It's an awesome app and takes up almost no space.
Thanks for the reply, but as mentioned in my first post psShutXP does not completely shut down / power off my device - it simply puts it into the low power sleep / suspend mode (where it can still receive calls, texts etc. and will wake immediately if you slide the keyboard).
I am looking for a shortcut to completely turn off my device, just like when you hold down the power key for a few seconds and hit yes when the warning comes up.
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks.
JC6 - I've been in the position for a while - and I've still come up with nothing.
I agree psShutXP is a useful application, but the power off function doesn't do what it's supposed to.
raiisak was going to work on one a while back, but I'm not sure if he ever got to it.
Yeah, I figured that if there was an answer to this one it would be easy enough to find on a search - it seems like the kind of thing quite a few people would want so I guess it would have been done by now if it was easy to do.
I'm not a programmer, but surely when you press and hold the power button it is executing some sort of shutdown function which can somehow be accessed through alternate means? \WINDOWS\PowerOffWarning.exe would seem like a likely candidate for this (and has been mentioned on a few threads) but it won't run when you try to access it directly (on my Kaiser / WM6.1)
I tried using VJKeyPress (great program) with a shortcut to the power key but it only seems to emulate a single short press. I couldn't see a numeric key code for a long press of the power key.
If anybody comes up with anything it would be very much appreciated...
Hi, has anyone come up with a solution for this. I have been searching the net for a while now to achieve this and have tried numerous software programmes, but have found none that achieve a complete shutdown of the device.
Ok had a little play with this, i can get the power off dialogue to appear from a shortcut using any one of the following commands and parameters in a .lnk file:
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff"
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX (EWX_POWEROFF, 0)
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX (EWX_SHUTDOWN, NULL)
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX
Not sure if any of this helps you guys out but i've attached an example, maybe some else will know a way to be able to bypass the yes/no prompt.....
Well this seems to have completely solved the problem, thank you so much! I couldn't be completely sure, but I spent a LONG time searching around for a solution to this issue, and I believe this may be the first time it's been successfully implemented (which is surprising given how it would seem like a function quite a lot of people would want).
Personally I'm not too bothered about the yes/no warning - it gives me chance to abort the process if I select it by accident.
Thanks a lot _DrG_, nice job!

Nice job!! I know the OP said "No extra software" but just though I'd throw in that I bet MortScript could be wrapped around this link and hit the Yes for the user.
Now I'm trying to think of how I'd use this...
how you sposed to put this shortcut on today screen?
Personally I access mine from WM5NewMenu (I love this program) - you could also put it in the start menu (copy the shortcut to \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS and it will then show up as as an option for one of your items in the Start Menu).
If you want it to appear on the today screen then any program which allows you to launch shortcuts from a today plugin (e.g. iLauncher etc. - you may well already have something like this) will do this for you. It's "just" a shortcut (which is the best thing about it - i.e. no need to install anything extra which clogs up your system).
Cheers.

Oh for those with mortscript try this, it'll bypass the prompt (well click the yes of the prompt) for you, so nice and automated!:

MouseClick(80,185)
you may need to tweak the sleep parameter, 750 does it for me....

coz im a nice guy, heres how you do it, well the "easy way" (as apposed to assigning the icon to the PowerOffWarning.exe then having to resign it to reflect the icon... )
Just keep the PowerOff.exe installed on your device, wherever it doesn't matter, ill assume for now is in \Windows\ on your device.....
basically the .lnk would have to look like this to use the icon your after:
Code:
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff"?\Windows\PowerOff.exe, -101
OR if you have the PowerOff.exe somewhere else on your device, just replace ?\Windows \PowerOff.exe with your location
Here's the updated .lnk with the icon parameter pointing to the PowerOff.exe if its in \Windows\....
You may require a reboot to reflect the change on your device....

As soon as I just started to read DrG's solution on previous page I decided to make a cab, but you have already done it. thx
(and BTW @OP: is your power off button on your kaiser broken or you just wanted it just because psshut didnt work correctly?
Personally I'd still use the physical power off button on my kaiser, but certainly it is great idea for other devices that may not have such option, ie my old iPAQ6515)

I see you used hardcoded path to "\Windows\Start Menu" rather than %CE11% or %CE17%
You are aware it makes your cab for WWE only, right?
Could someone please please please integrate _DrG_'s amazing find into psShutXP so that the "shutdown" button actually shuts down the phone. Im sure a lot of people would really like this.
Hey guys, i just spent like an hour trying to figure this damn thing out but i cant seem to do it!
here's the game, gfDoom,
http://home.freeuk.com/gamefreaks/pql/gfDoom.htm
just FYI.
I'm attaching the "keyboard" skin for the game, which allows landscape and i'm quite happy with it. The only problem is in landscape i cant see a way to save the game, or exit the game.
By default for Touch Pro, landscape
VOLUME DOWN = OPEN DOOR (which is fine)
BACK BUTTON/OK BUTTON = SHOOT (also fine)
Other hardkey buttons unmapped.
doesnt need a map button since on screen, bottom left corner activates the map
now i'm trying to map the pause/menu button to one of the hardkeys. Make full use of em. Like the enter key and the volume up key. Can someone help me out here? I think one key shud be a letter or something so that can save the game. Like when i wanna save the game i have to type a name.
I have found this link "Keys and Key Codes for Windows Mobile" but am unable to get it to work after several attempts.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb431750.aspx
see attachment for the instructions and the folder containing the skin "Keyboard"
Hopefully someone can help me out by helping me map it out.
Please post results here

bump one more time. maybe i shud ask in raphael main forum section?
Change the title of your thread. It sounds like you're trying to get someone to give you registration keys for software, or something equally illegal. I realize you're not, but I may simply be more curious than the average reader.
Look for a program called HButton. It might do what you're looking for.
Also, it's considered bad form to bump your own threads, unless they fall off the first page without getting responses.

yea it fell off the first page which is why i bumped it.
oh okay will edit thread title.
and btw HButton is to assign apps to hardware buttons. what i need is some help regarding configuring the .txt file for gfDoom to configure Doom controls. what i need is a hardware button for the menu key
Managed to get it working reasonably.
Volume down = FIRE
Volume up = STRAFE (hold down whilst pressing left or right)
OK/Select = OPEN
Back = FULLSCREEN (Toggles between portrait and landscape)
Couldn't seem to map the Call and Call-end buttons successfully.
Having the "Back" button as a full screen button seemed more functional than just using it to pause or quit the game, as from the portrait/keyboard mode you can access these facilities and more (e.g. save, load, exit etc).
Just stick the modded text file in your "KEYBOARD" folder. I've renamed my "KEYBOARD" folder "DEFAULT" so I don't have to use the launcher .exe (configuration tool) and can just use the direct .exe to go straight into the game.
P.s. The game seems to run ever so slightly more smoothly if you disable TF3D (Manila) from: Settings/Today
before launching the game. Simply enable again once you're finished.
In case you want to setup you controls differently, here are the mapping codes for the buttons:
Code:
Button Hex Dec
vol+ 0x75 117
vol- 0x76 118
back 0x5c 92
end 0x73 115
call 0x72 114
ok 0x86 134
up 0x26 38
down 0x28 40
left 0x25 37
right 0x27 39
You need to enter the decimal values within the text file.
i'm actually using the up button to pause game to save etc etc. but i'll definitely try to follow your config for the volume up button. cuz i cant get mine to work. i prefer back as shoot. lets me run around with stylus and shoot/strafe.
I've modded the skin a little further, using the default skins layout and the keyboard skins toolbar (with fullscreen and exit etc)
Attached the skin files...
Made two new skins for GFDOOM from scratch with as much functionality for the Raphael as I could map. I'm quite pelased with them.
One is a Doom themed skin, the other one is to match NRG's EnergyROM theme.
