Should I bother upgrading from LMY47D to LMY47E? Was anything important changed, or are there any problems with LMY47D? I'm stock rooted (and unlocked obviously).
Small camera change and the radio but no nothing major.

@EvanVanVan,
Depends on what network you're on. If VZW then definitely yes. If TMO, you should be on "M". Anyone else, " D" appears to work as well as anything else.

Hmm, ok... I'm on VZW but bought it from Motorola...So that's still a yes? May I ask why "definitely"?

VZW branded phones are shipping with E. And several users have reported that VOLTE works for them on E, but not D or M.

Oh, nice yeah I haven't been able to get VoLTE activated on my line. I will definitely try upgrading right now.
Thanks man

You're right, and I actually had it in there when I first wrote it, but I thought it got kinda confusing and wordy...and didn't honestly think it would matter since they're all the same phone (at least the non verizon ones).
Thanks for the help though.

VoLTE/Advanced Calling is working fine on my Nexus 6 running LMY47D with Verizon. I purchased my Nexus 6 from Motorola months ago and updated to 5.1 LMY47D as soon as it was available. I used the instructions found at Droid Life and activated Advanced Calling through my Verizon Wireless account on their website.
Didn't flash boot loader from 47D to 47E fats boot
I side loaded 47D then unlocked the boot loader and fastboot flashed everything but boot loader and user data, my question is should I go a head and flash the bootloader from 47E? Will it make any difference and if I do will it cause any problems like erase data or anything like that?
From my understanding if you are on any version 5 .1 bootloader you are fine there's no difference. but you can't go back to 5 .0 without loading a 5.0 bootloader

I have a Nexus 6 I bought from a 3rd party. Its a TMo variant so its Sim unlocked and whatnot. When I put my VZW Sim in I get LTE and such. I can't call nor send texts messages from said device. From what I get from threads on here I should request a new Sim card and stuff from VZW but if that doesn't work how would I go about fixing this issue. I mean I've already tried the whole calling the Verizon and having them elevate the case but that doesn't do anything. Eh. I mean I still have my M8 so I've been using that but it seems like this phone just doesn't want to work on VZW.
Are there any special things I should do to my phone to make it work. Or any special APNs I should use
Thanks
-ElChibo
Please could you describe your question in the thread title? Maybe something a bit more descriptive like "using Verizon sim in TMO N6 - no calls or sms"? That way you will target the people who may know the answer whilst saving people who don't the time spent on reading the thread?
Thanks for your consideration
The phone is going to be blocked via the IMEI.
I don't see it happening on Verizon. Maybe after they roll out the Nexus on their network we would know more.

The N6 is carrier unlocked except the AT&T version and that's easily remedied, it's got to be APN related. Try a ROM that includes all of the Verizon APN's like Chroma and see if that helps.
If you have a SIM that was already activated then there probably won't be a problem -- it should work fine in any N6 (except I hear the AT&T is network locked).
Hi,
From what i've seen it sounds like Verizon no longer locks their LTE phones. So am I correct in believing that if I got a nexus 6 through verizon, I would be able to just plug in a t-mobile SIM and use it without issue?
Would wiping completely and flashing all the stock google images remove any verizon bloat/bootscreen?
THanks

My GF had a verizon upgrade she didn't care to use. So figured it would be nice to pay $350 vs $650. First time i've bought a phone off a carrier in like 4 years. Can't believe they charged a $40 upgrade fee. Tmobile FTW!

Thats not necessarily true some carriers still can sim lock until device is paid off or contract is complete.
Edit: AT&T did this

Yeah, I know from my ATT days. However as far as I can tell, I believe Verizon doesn't follow this tactic.

Device Unlocking Policy
Postpay Device Unlocking Policy:
We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Edge installment sales agreement.
We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.

Be careful about this assumption. The Droid Turbo boot loader is still locked an there is no root, while the Droid Moto Maxx (International Turbo version is unlocked) . Most verizon phones can go from Carrier to carrier if they are a global phone so from that perspective they are not locked and can be used on other carriers but it doesn't guarantee the boot loader is unlocked and root is available.

I got a Verizon Nexus 6 activated on Sprint yesterday. They just dropped the last digit of the IMEI and it activated with no issue. No SIM lock either. Store was very reluctant to try but 1 guy there had a Nexus himself and wanted to see if it worked.

Long story short, I traded my vzw iPhone for a nexus 6 that is unlocked, I put in my Sim and everything works fine, verizon says they can not activate the phone on their network although the phone works. The person says they thought the phone was originally was for t-mobile. How can I find out what carrier the phone was originally on?

nope. when i said that they are all the exact same nexus 6, i meant it. they are the same, hardware and software. there are two nexus 6, the US version and the international version. and their only difference is which lte bands they get.

Hello All,
I'm considering getting a Nexus 6 on Verizon, as my company is moving away from ATT. My understanding is that the Nexus 6 in the Google Play Store and direct from Verizon are physically identical phones, since the GP version has worked with Verizon since launch (just Verizon wouldn't activate it). I know that Verizon has made several modifications to the Nexus 6 that they are shipping, like they usually do with Nexus phone (Thinking back to the Galaxy Nexus fiasco), but they were very minor. Specifically, they added in their changes to the build.prop for tethering to be blocked without a subscription.
Do any of you know, if I get one, if I can just flash the stock factory images from Google and get OTA updates from Google with all of the tethering functionality and such unlocked by default? Is the build.prop modification the only difference?

Build.prop isn't different. The devices are identical. The advantages/differences of the VZW N6 versus every other at two fold:
1) VZW device IMEI is "whitelisted" on Verizon. No others are. This means that if you buy from anywhere else, you are going to have to fool Verizon (several ways to do this). They won't give you a SIM. And this, in turn, means that you will not get your BYOD discount on EDGE.
2) VZW version ships with LMY47E (which includes 98R radio). There is no OTA for this. But the factory image can be downloaded from Google and fastboot flashed.

There is no "Google Play" edition phone. You can buy a Nexus 6 from the Google Play store, but it's not a special edition. It's the same phone you can buy from Motorola, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. Verizon whitelists their IMEI as I've noted above. There are four factory images for 5.1, LMY47D, LMY47E, LMY47M, and LMY47I. You can flash any on these on any Nexus 6.
And, you're welcome.

its the same software. when you put in the verizon sim and boot the first time, is when it installs verizons apps. if you boot the first time without the sim catd, it wont install verizons apps.
If you plan on using VZW's Advanced Calling 1.0 you have to run version LMY47E.

This is according to Verizon...
From the Verizon Website said:
Advanced Calling 1.0 is a first generation suite of services enabled by VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology.
VoLTE is a new technology platform that delivers voice calls over the 4G LTE network instead of the traditional voice network.
The benefits of Advanced Calling 1.0 include:
- HD Voice
- 1-way or 2-way video calls* (including support for video calls over Wi-Fi)
- 6-way conference calls
- Simultaneous voice and 4G LTE data**

Google has not provided any official definitions, but it's generally accepted here (Not hard and fast rules, though) that:
LMY47D is for AT&T and Sprint
LMY47E is for Verizon
LMY47M is for T-Mobile
LMY47I is for international (but a lot of US users use it, myself included).

Hi, I have a Nexus 6 that was originally tied to AT&T, but I unlocked it and it uses another carrier now, however I just got the message to update to 5.1.1, I always do it using fastboot because I'm rooted, so I looked for the image at google's website, and it says that's only for T-Mobile having said that, should I still update knowing that my phone is no longer using any carrier? would that (somehow) lock my phone again against a us carrier or cause some weird behavior on the phone? thanks in advanced, and I appreciate your help!

Yes, update. There's several threads on this already.
Thanks a lot, I do apologize for repeating the same question, I just wanted to make sure since it's weird that google posts an image "only" for T-Mobile. Does it matter if I use the one for "Sprint" or "T-Mobile"?

I would recommend the Sprint version, as it is being pushed to international users. That being said, you can use the other and it should work as well but there may be unnecessary or missing features.
Excellent, thanks!!
