I've been using Solo launcher for a LONG time and love all the customizations it can do, but after I got my nexus 6 the solo will not let me open an app from the app drawer, i have to drag it to my home screen first.
so what launcher do you guys find is best?
Love nova, very smooth and a lot of customizations
I would say either Nova or Apex. They ware about the same, but Nova has a little more customizability.
Nova... Easily...
Just expect majority of the response will be nova.
Stock!
+1
As I said before in a similar thread, I use and love Flow Home. It's like blinkfeed...but better.
Still in development, but I already use it as my daily.
Good luck choosing, there is a lot of choice out there

what do you like about it over nova?
Long time nova prime user here. It works good on here besides the odd persistant google search box in the recent apps menu bug that feels a tad glitchy. It seems to me like it could use an update. Anyone try stock with xposed gel settings? So I'm on stock for the moment.

the thing i find about nova that's annoying is that i can't double tap the desktop to make it turn the screen off... which i could do in solo

You can do it if you have Greenify, then set the command for "Hibernate + lock screen" and done...!

About once a week I'll install Nova, customize the layout and screens, put a new icon pack on... then that same day I'll uninstall it and go back to the stock launcher. I am pretty indecisive when it comes to layouts. I probably change my wallpaper 3-4 times a day.

Me too.
It has some amazing features like Shutters, Quickpage and Quickdrawer, which, after you get used to, you just can't live without.

Nees, I like what I see of Flow Home from their website, but it's asking for an invite to install. Do you have any invites to share?
Thanks for the mention of Quick Launcher 3! I like it!
I set it up with an immediate link to Smart Launcher Pro (which I like) which also has an immediate link to Beautiful Drawers. Best of all worlds - I got a ton of apps.

Which would you prefer and why? I like adw's robust options but it seems that launcherpro is more stable. Could be a placebo though. What do u guys think?
i use AWD
(10 char)
I have both installed on my Froyo Nexus and I'm constantly going back and forth between the two. It's like a personal war between the 2 devs/teams. Its pushing both of them hard and its awesome.
I finally made my choice today and went with ADW because of the number of rows and columns I can make as well as edit the widgets to my liking. I use 5 x 6 and its pretty nice I think.
Thing I miss the most from LP is the 3d launcher and the new dock.
Both of them seem stable for everyday use for me.
But once ADW added the custom widget sizing thing, I knew ADW was the winner for me. I'll still keep LauncherPro and follow its progress but right now, its ADW.
I have 7 screens but here are the middle 3.

The top 86 is my current weather.
The 28% and 30 is one of them didn't update as fast as the other.
The 29.0c/84.2f is the battery temp.
Hope that clears it up.
I use LP. It already has scrollable lower row (with shortcuts), rows/columns change in Launcher mode, and 3D app drawer.

I have both installed and have gone between them countless times but this last week I've been leaning towards LP. It's not a placebo, Launcher pro isn't quite as customizable as ADW [yet] but updates are coming twice a week and it's gets better every time.
LP - I think a great app does not need thousands of options. While they are nice, lp just seems to work how I want and requires very little from me. I tried adw many times, but always go back.
I wish it would allow you to change the launcher background color and transparency though, like adw.
I was not a fan of changing my desktop from 4x4... Everything seemed weird at 5x5 for me.

After realizing ADW is open source and Launcher pro is not, I'm sticking with ADW.
It'd be nice if you could just switch launchers without setting EVERYTHING up again... Widgets, apps... I'm using LauncherPro right now, it's really nice.. Haven't tried ADW yet, but perhaps I will sometime.
I use adw and love it! I think that it is much cleaner and more "android" looking. The adw dev just released an update today that made it WAY more stable.

ADW FTW! i have both and constantly switching too, but i like adw best
Launcher Pro. I hate ADW launcher for some reason..
I have been using ADW and decided to try launcher pro after reading this thread. They both seem to be doing a great job. They have introduced unique ideas to almost same tasks.
If the developers of both the launchers are reading this forum, please try to see if you guys can collaborate.
Both are amazing!!
And it´s freaking great, that we can choose, what we wanna use!
Android & Android Devs rock !!!!****
I use ADW Launcher because it's open source
But Launcher Pro is very good too
I to really like ADW and especially the open source side of things
However one feature i really like on LP is the screen selector notifier bar thingy at the bottom that's real nice
but still ADW is my launcher of choice! and i only just found out about the swiping up on the bottom thing yesterday! even though that's probably been in a few versions
LauncherPro.

Hate to move away from the topic.. but I have to ask someone...
What is this instant diversion people have to closed-source software?
Just because something is open-sourced doesn't mean it is instantly better than the competition, or does it?
I myself have both installed, I switch back and forth - generally with new updates to check them out. Right now, ADW is my default, the custom widget sizes makes using a 6x6 layout possible. Which rocks!
But, LauncherPro has some great features, and is equally as good a product.
I've been a LauncherPro user for many years now, and as such I've stuck with it on my Note. However, due to the "laggy" app-drawer opening animation, I've had to disable that completely (so that the drawer opens immediately).
I believe that pretty much ALL third-party launchers suffer from stuttering in some way or another. Does anyone actually know WHY this is the case on the Note? Its not ROM specific.
The alternative is to just use TouchWiz, which I am 100% keen on doing, except for ONE little problem. 90% of Android widgets are 4 columns wide, and there is no way to resize widgets with TouchWiz.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I get the feeling that most people stick with TouchWiz, so I'd love to know what you do about the 4 column limitation.

No problem
I have tried most of the available launchers. The one i am most happy with at the moment is spb shell 3d, its not cheap. But when in tablet mode, looks great on the note. The widgets really make use of the screen resolution.
The only issue is there is no ability to alter the row/column count. Which in tablet mode has a count of 8. Which is a little high for the screen size of the note.
I have emailed the Developers of spb shell 3d and they have told me a update will be available soon.
Just my opinion
Thanks. I wish there was a way to test SPB before buying.
Are you able to resize widgets with SPB?

There is, but not one that I could ever recommend
I admit I tried it and found it very wanting. I only did it for the trial, because the cost was so high. I am glad I did, as I found it very wanting on my device. Others seem faster to me.
I use ssLancher. It has a very different approach, and everything is customisable. I also use a separate app launcher and Folder Organiser, leaving me 'free' from the app organisation that most launchers pin on you. That allows me to play with more with less effort.
go launcher is good because you can use ICS theme.
But this stupid launcher removes ICS animation ! (returns Gingerbread stock)
I hope new update (4.0) will bring for us more then just a nice shell.

No matter what Kernel/ROM I use, every single launcher lags noticeably. I never had this problem with my previous phones (Atrix, Defy+, SGS2). And yes, I'm and advanced user so I know how to optimize the OS.
I just stuck to ADW EX, selecting the Fast interface and setting drawing cache to low quality. It lags but it's way less than Launcher Pro, GO and SS Launcher.
Hope this gets fixed on ICS.

Hi there!
proud owner of a 1p1 for 5 hours now.
I really like the feature of swiping to the left on the left-most-screen to trigger the google-now app.
But I hate google now
Do you have any recommendations for others apps which offer this intent, so I can swipe to the left to trigger the alternative app?
I only know one, I have instaled by default, its a bus-fixtures app called "öffi".
Thanks in advance

That is very true indeed. I have betrayed it with action launcher 3.
I don't like usual launchers, they are all kind of the same.
Just try Total Launcher, it's new and has a tons of options.

I tested a lot of launchers and I think that Action Launcher 3 was the best of all for me.
Regards
Action Launcher 3. I'll find it hard to go back to any other launcher. It just has all the features I want/need.
I suppose like a lot of people I regularly go through the launchers trying the new and revisiting the old. I load the screens every which way seeking an optimal layout where minimal clicks lead to the goods and with an eye on aesthetics.I just completed such a cycle now and before long I always end up back on Action Launcher 2, its just flat a better mousetrap. I find 3 is a move toward being another Nova, Apex, or (seemingly) fifty other similar launchers without adding anything else and I think we have enough of those already. Plus I think that Lacy that makes Action Launcher is a Richard. Every time he iterates the launcher you have to buy a new pro license and that is crap. So cred for the covers/blinds idea and the Launcher 2 which is a fairly brilliant re-imagination of how a launcher can work, but heavy diss for being a Richard. As to this thread, I dislike all three launchers mentioned about equally.

That is very true. I have tried all the launchers and do every month but i always end up going back to action launcher, but action launcher 3 because of the material design but true action launcher 2 is better.
Yeah, I imagine a lot of this is just preference. On the other hand I cant make any objective argument as to standout reasons one of the OPs choices would be a good one whereas I can make some about Nova, Action, etc. I didn't mean to imply 3 was junk BTW, I just felt the combo of moving toward another Nova clone (which one could argue is a clone of older launchers which first carved out that general path) along with the shut out to previous buyers was a turn off for me personally.
I use Lightning Launcher.....supports up to 99 distinct desktops, which is perfect for my obsession with widgets. I created shortcut "buttons" that jump to whatever desktop I want to see.

The memory usage...LOL.
I cant recall now which version of touchwiz came with the buttons across the bottom for each homescreen with these being shortcuts to that screen but I thought it was a great touch that I fully expected other launchers to copy but it didn't happen. Wasn't enough to keep me on touchwiz of course but I really liked having every screen one touch a way.

I still think you'll end up using Nova Launcher. Google's launcher just isn't that customizable, even with Xposed and mods. Nova Launcher, especially now with it's material design really fits stock Android setups MUCH better. It's what I'll be adding to mine once I get it.

Apex Launcher Pro is the best IMO. I like hiding apps from the drawer if I already have them elsewhere. The customization with it is also better than all of the launchers I tested on Android. It's also the closest to stock UI, I don't like the cartoonish feel of all the other ones.

As most here have said, NOVA will always be the staple.
If you want to spend a few bucks, try something like SPB Shell 3D. While power hungry, today's phones can handle launchers like this with ease. Far better then when SPB and others first came to be.
These launchers (SPB and the like) are gimmicky, though rather cool
Another vote for Nova here, though when I have like a month to fully sit down and mess with it, I might switch to Lightning Launcher.
If google would add folder support in the app drawer, I would drop Nova. But sadly, they omit this easy add.

Its funny you mention that, I was part of the original beta testers back in 2010 and then purchased the full shell at $20. It is cool for the effects BUT I think as far as functionality goes its hard to say. Once that Russian company bought SPB out, development went to sh1t.
