Has anyone ran the 5.1 bootloader with a 5.0 rom? Also, are you able to manually downgrade the bootloader in fastboot?
I ask because I don't fully understand the hard bricks that came with flashing CM recently. I just know that they had to do with the zip flashing the bootloader.
Thanks in advance!

You cannot downgrade the bootloader. You can run any ROM whilst having the 5.1 bootloader installed.

So I've updated to 5.1 and you say I could run blisspop 5.0.2 still which is Cm based?

You can run whatever rom you want. There was an issue with earlier CM nightlies, where they were trying to do soimething with the bootloader that failed.
Alright, I'm gonna take the dive, lol.
I'm trying to figure out how to fix the qi disconnect issue. Noticed that it's fixed in 5.1.

Good evening everybody,
I just read that accepting an OTA Update from Motorola results in a soft brick if your Bootloader is unlocked.
Does it only happen when upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1 or will it also happen, when updating from 4.1 to 4.4?
If it does, how can I upgrade without bricking my device? I know there is no KitKat ROM availble right now, but Motorola promised to release an KK update.
It should be fine if you flash stock using RSD Lite and leave it untouched.
I read it somewhere on the Moto discussion forums but can't seem to find the link.
No, no brick. You just need to have stock (no root).

I'm currently on Android 5.0.2 with CM 12 and I don't know if there is any way to simply upgrade the bootloader without restoring to stock, is there any way to do so?
Also, what's the difference if I update to 5.1 and then reflash CM12?

Um if u update to 5.1 and then flash cm12 that will cause ur device to brick. I would hold off if using cm12 is important

well then just flash cm12 if u think this. I personally would hold off, but its ur device. To upgrade your bootloader/radio look for the threads in the nexus 6 area. you will need to use fastboot

It didnt brick mine. I did it without even researching. Just assumed it was good. Flashed 5.1 as my first custom rom, and now I'm on the 3/22/15 CM12 nightly. No bricks.

I think if you have an unlocked bootloader you can use RSD Lite to flash a kit kat image and the revert
You have to do the bootloader downgrade, or you will brick your phone because when you took the update, your bootloader also updated. Here's the link but it is risky And you can brick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3058202

Um, not exactly.
GPT.BIN can't be downgraded. Parts of Mototboot.img can't be downgrade. We've seen issues of phones not working when the GPT/Motoboot are NEWER than the rom on the phone... i.e. someone tried to downgrade, or they started and failed flashing a newer SBF...
@dexter bob its a long story, which I've tried to explain (see the warning link in my signature), and some will say its safe, but I've seen way too many soft bricks (which could be recovered), hard bricks (could not be recovered so the phone is now a paperweight/door stop/trash), and others who just had some features/functions not working properly when they've attempted to downgrade, that I say... "Its your phone, you can do what you want, just please make an informed decision" and.... If you are ok with the very real possibility of rendering your phone useless, then sure do whatever you want, but if you can't afford to have a non-working phone, then do not attempt to downgrade.
ok i wont go for downgrade that but now i am using kk based cyanogen 11, that is "cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-ghost.zip ". i think it is kk based isn't it a downgrade? the thing is camera quality in kk 4.4.4 is good but i am not getting the same quality in cyanogen, how could i improve camera quality?
Just install eclipse or krypton.
They are both stock 4.4.4 based

CM roms do not touch much beyond System.. It is safe to flash those, and revert back to your stock rom.
u can use the Fastboot tools to downgrade

Try flashing moto camera, in question and answers sub forum there is a thread of some guy asking for links, I flashed one of these and working fine, but just camera, not gallery, or you will have problems with theme engine.

just download kk firmware you want and flash just system.img and boot.img then go to recovery and wipe data&cache.
i'm using 4.2.2 right now after i upgraded my xt1052 to 5.1 firmware. just flash system .img and boot.img via fastboot and wipe data&cache.
backup first!!!!!

In the Moto X General Thread, the stock Lollipop ROMs with download links are available. Download both the Lollipop ROM and the Kitkat ROM for your device.
When you are flashing(Using Fastboot), all you need to do is flash the gpt.bin and motoboot.img from the Lollipop ROM instead of the KitKat ROM and the others as is from KitKat ROM.
This method worked for me on XT-1052.
ok thank u brother, could u explain step wise because i am beginner, flashing means using cmd or twrp?

I got an Android System update today, 26mb, and it tried to install it and failed...
Phone running stock, latest OTA, no root... But the bootloader is unlocked and it does have the no-force-encrypt kernel installed... Is that why it bombed?
Anyone else gotten it?

the only way you can install an ota is by being 100% completely stock. any changed files and every ota will fail.

I flashed the stock rom with the Nexus toolkit a few weeks ago, LMY48L which was supposed to fix stagefright... So I wonder what the changelog is for this one?

I suspect you meant LMY48I (not LMY48L). If so, you are probably getting LMY48M now.
LMY48I was supposed to fix stagefright (among other bugs), but stagefright needed one more fix, which was included in LMY48M (among other bug fixes of course)

You could use the fastboot commands instead, and understand what's really happening behind the scenes (unless you already know that).

I received the update on my Nexus 9 yesterday and on my Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 today. all updates went smoothly.
So what is the latest and greatest version of the stock rom for the Verizon variant? This new M version?
How does it run with that kernel installed? Is everything faster and does games run with no issues now
