How I downgraded my baseband/fixed 4.4.2 lag - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Background: I had updated to OA1 4.4.4 on s5 900A. I had some issues, so I decided to downgrade as described in the upgrade thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120.
I would downgrade by flashing in odin the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar, as well as the G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel, rerooting with towelroot, installing safestrap, and flashing one of the many 4.4.2 roms.
However, upon boot all of the 4.4.2 roms would be laggy, I would sometimes get a green/pixilated effect on the lockscreen when unlocking, and battery life would be sub par. I came across this app on play store:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en , and even though I had downgraded the kernel, the bootloader read as OA1, even after flashing in Odin the ND3 stock kernel.
I believed that was causing the issues I was having, and was under the impression that the bootloader could not be downgraded. In a fit of frustration I did the following, and fixed the problem!
Solution:
This is not a step by step, but a rough approximation of what I did, if you need more detail, just ask.
1. I downloaded and put on my SD card G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934525665
2. In odin 3.09 I flashed G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712464416,
3. Also in the AP slot I flashed G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712464356
3. My phone was unrooted at this time. I let it boot up, downloaded the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ to the phone from the playstore, opened and my bootloader remained OA1. The camera was normal, and the boot was slow, so I was where I was many times before.
4. I shut down the phone, I rebooted holding volume up, power and start until I got to the standard, built in samsung recovery.
5. I located my download of G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip, and flashed it via the samsung recovery. It took about 5 minutes.
6. The phone rebooted, and the phone info app said I had and NG3 baseband! It had downgraded! However, towel root was not compatible.
7. I flashed in odin G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel again. Now towelroot rooted the phone. I installed busybox and superuser from the playstore, then safestrap again.
Now I can flash any of the 4.4.2 roms, none of the slowbooting, stuttering lockscreen or battery issues seem to be present, and Phone INFO ★Samsung★ has my baseband and bootloader as NG3.
All credit goes to muniz_ri, these are all his tools! I just stumbled across this method and thought others might benefit.

I can confirm this.
I was on OA1 after flashing OA1 OTA zip from recovery.
Later, I downgraded by flashing G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar. Bootloader after this was OA1.
Flashed G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip from recovery. Bootloader and baseband changed to NG3.
Bootloader and Baseband version was verified using 'phone info' app from play store.

Likewise, just did it, I found with me, the OTA zip file would not install with the ND3 kernel installed. So I did the original odin downgrade to NCE, booted, then the OTA zip file, booted, Then the ND3 kernel Tar file in odin. Worked .Good luck:good:

so the nce to ng3 downgrade goes in the ap or BL?

NCE. to NG3. OTA zip is done in original recovery by pressing power + volume up + home key. Then install update from Sd external.

i fixed my phone with this!

was on Muniz 5.0, downgraded to xtreme dynamic kitkat. Still had oa1 bootloader, and was laggin really bad on boot.
Flashed this in stock recovery (wipes data part ) and reloaded my apps.
All seems to be well, without the need to go back to stock in between.

Thank you - this totally worked for me and got rid of the lag in my 4.4.2 ROM (XDK) as I had taken the upgrade to 4.4.4 way back when!

Hi,
do you do step 2 & 3 at the same time?
which field in Odin do you put the .tar file?
Thanks,
h

I'm not sure. Sounds like the reactivation was locked before you downgraded. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Well, I tried flashing CWM on my T mobile Note 4, and it never worked. I used Odin, and while it said it worked, I still get stock recovery. HOWEVER, when I check for OTAs, my phone says it has been modified and I need to use Kies. I'm on stock firmware and haven't even rooted, so wold it be posible, much less safe, to update via Kies when lollipop rolls out? I haven't deleted any stock apps, and as previously stated am on stock firmware and recovery and am
not rooted.
I'm not that familiar with Kies, but for sure you will be able to update by Odin flashing the Lollipop firmware once it gets posted. Your CWM flashing may have worked but then the recovery got overwritten at boot by the stock ROM. But unfortunately that would trip your Knox flag and give you 'modified' status. If you try flashing CWM again, uncheck auto reboot, and then try booting straight into recovery.

questions:
1.) How did you flash CWM without root? If you attempted this with ODIN you tripped KNOX and therfore voided the warranty and the abilitity to get an OTA.
2.) If you already have ODIN installed and know how to flash with it why bother with Kies and/or OTA's? You can use ODIN to flash the update as soon as it is posted only. With this dev community it shouldn't take too long.
Also if you are looking to use a custom recovery you should work with TWRP. Technically CWM and Philztouch are no longer being support. Finally if you already tripped KNOX by trying to flash custom recovery, why not just root the thing now. There really isn't much of a different now.

This is how you root:

If you want an update later you can always odin to stock + factory reset.

I was running stock rooted Lollipop ....Wanted to try out a new rom so when I tried to reboot to TWRP nothing happened...So I decided to just reflash TWRP via Odin and it failed...tried to reflash cf auto root via Odin and failed. I was able to flash the NK4 firmware via Odin. And same fail message came up for Cf Auto Root and TWRP...Went to check recovery and I'm back to stock. Tried doing a factory reset in stock recovery and failed...preload destination does not exist! Fudge bananas! So I flashed the firmware (OC6). It's working fine but I can not use Cf Auto root nor flash TWRP via Odin....Any ideas what's going on?

Perhaps you don't have the latest versions of cf-autroot. odin and twrp recovery.
The latest versions are twrp v2.8.6.0, odin v3.10.0 and cf-autoroot.
Both twrp and cf-autoroot are specifically for the N910T Tmobile Note 4.
Here is a direct download link to the latest versions:

p.s. Be sure to use the original Note 4 charging cable.
Good luck!

I just looked at your two screen shots and noticed that your activation
lock is ON, so go into settings>security and turn it OFF.
Then power off the phone and go into download
mode and start odin flashing cf-autoroot and twrp.
Good luck!
Your lock ? is defintley your issue. I still using twrp 2.8.4 with no issues and odin 3.9.

AT&T S5 Brick help (PLEAASEE ASAP)

Okay so I first rooted my 4.4.2 at&t g900a s5 with towelroot successfully. I then flashed a lollipop firmware with flashify directly from my phone and that firmware came with root. I didnt like lollipop so I flashed my orginal firmware (4.4.2) through odin and ended up sort of bricking my s5. When I turn it on, it goes in boot and makes the screen black and has a blue LED on top that stays on forever. I fixed the problem with this website:
http://www.galaxys5update.com/fix-black-screen-with-pulsating-blue-led-on-galaxy-s5-g900a/
I followed the steps and flashed the partition one first and got to the boot screen of the s5 and it had the lock symbol and said "custom" and paused there forever. I tried the modem one after it, but then the EXACT same thing happened with the partition one. All I want is to go back to stock or to lollipop or whatever, just a working phone. I tried factory resetting and wiping cache but nothing worked. PLEASE HELP ASAP

Go to the OP and scroll to the notes section on post #1. In step 5 it has the NCE downgrade firmware. As long as you didn't take the OTA, the downgrade firmware will fix you. Flash it with odin 3.09 in the AP slot.

Factory Reset my S6 with Odin No Network!

I rooted with ping pong root, followed these guides to do my "OTA" updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-flashfire-update-t3156221
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135
Then I used this file with Odin, to factory reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/odin-tar-files-sm-g920a-t3103835
Now it seems to have factory reset it but it says I have no IMEI, network unknown, etc....
I am suspecting that its something to do with those updates I did and flashing the Modem drivers, which maybe need to be downgraded now? or if i can update my software somehow with a legit version?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Gavin
To my understanding, the downgrade to OE2 from OE3 or OF4 causes these issues with the imei and such.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
from what I have gathered... seems right.
so I am thinking now if I can upgrade to OE3, or OF4 in a legit way... then my modem will work again....
but If i use the upgrades mentioned on those 2 threads, those are pre rooted? so ill just be rooted again (but working modem)
correct?
My files are working fine. the problem is that you're trying to keep root and the modem you flashed is NOT compatible with the bootloader you current have.
Sunderwear, no problem with your files at all, I think the problem is with me.
I am trying to remove root.
How can I put a bootloader on my device that will be compatible with my modem?
I had the same issues. I ended up using Odin to go to OCE, then OE2 then I used PPR to root, and used FF to go to OF3 then OF4. Cause a BUNCH of problemt so I went to BBuy and had them force a flash of the full OF4.
You could always try doing the Odin OI2 files and see if that leaves you fully updated with everything working. You will lose root and will not be able to downgrade.
Well, depending on your desired outcome (rootless OF4, or 5.1.1), you'll have to do slightly different things, both will wipe your phone completely.
To move to rootless OF4, just download the Full OTA from the bottom of the first post at this link this is where things get different.
The next step is to reboot your device to recovery, not download mode (hold power home and vol up). You may see a updating android icon, but nothing should be happening yet.
You should now see the manual menu for the recovery, select the sideload update option
On your computer with ADB, sideload the OTA zip Do not unplug your phone
Your phone should reboot and you're now running OF4 while rootless
For 5.1.1
Flash the ODIN files with ODIN
Please note, you must be already rooted for this to work: I made the same mistake of upgrading to of4. Here's what I did, and my phone works just awesome and is still rooted with the Of4 base band.
1. Odin 3.10.6 OCE2
2. Reboot, at this point you'll have no carrier signal/data.
3. Ping pong root, install flash fire.
4. Install Rayman's ROM, Clean ROM, or Dennis ROM with flashfire (wipe first!).
5. Download the of4 root update here. forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135 ONTO YOUR PC. unrar. Flash via Odin the two files you unrar'd according to these instructions:
In Odin put boot.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
Put modem.tar.md5 in the CP slot.
Leave all other settings alone and click start.
Reboot, and you should be up and running with cell data and carrier signal.

When that happened to me, I used muniz's methods to fix my G870A. Here's the link:
http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s5-active-to-lollipop-root-it-and-enable-wifi-tethering/
Before doing anything, try flashing the bootloader MD5 file using Odin, that could be the problem. If that doesn't work,go ahead and download the STOCK firmware for the G870A and flash it. This will take you back to 4.4.2 KK, but you can easily use muniz's method after that to get either rooted or unrooted Lollipop. Good luck!
