Hey everyone
Has anyone else noticed that their TyTN II wakes from standby when switching between GPRS and 3G. At least I think this is why mine appears to wake up randomly! It will be sat on my desk in standby mode and then the screen will switch on and the signal strength bars will move.
I've checked to make sure nothing is running in the background and performed a soft reboot.
Any ideas?
Hi
The Kaiser does turn on at least once every hour (some house keeping tasks), and will turn on if the mobile signal is lost. However these on's are in unattended mode which means the device appears off to the owner so the screen will not come on.
If you have some software that likes to do work or updates the today page for example, that software may be detecting the device has turned on and in order to get your attention or just through bad programming, issues a power announcement to say turn on proper, hence the display lights up!
Regards
Phil
Thanks for the info, I'll have a look what I have on there and try and isolate what is causing the power ups.
Cheers for the help.
If you have sprite backup installed with the auto backup on low power option that causes occasional power ups to enable the power check.
I may have solved this issue. After uninstalling enAlarm the phone, no longer appears to be waking. I'm still monitoring it though
i have the same problem when im signed on to AIM. Once i sign off it stops waking up, but if its on it'll wake up every 5 minutes or so, and it is in fact annoying. Havent found out the solution for it yet so i just dont really use it that often

it's when a friend log's in or out of AIM.. it's a paint, rediculious and ATT refuses to get rid of OZ messanger and use a real one.
here's the kicker. it supposed to use TEXT , but when a friend logs in or out, the message is sent to your phone, and then DATA brings up the list..
STUPID and ignorant of ATT but,. big companies do what they want!
I have been having the same problem as well. I just installed this DeviceLock program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
If you enable the "Lock on Wake" option, the device will be locked when it wakes up, so the backlight stays off and you won't call anyone by accidentally hitting buttons.
Also, I ran across this related thread you might want to check out (basically talking about the same thing, but for the Tilt):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335433
Strange one this but I am left handed (eared) and after making a call I always find that my ear has opened lots of programs whilst talking. Is there a way to lock the display while taking a call or some other solution?
Also after uninstalling PocketInformant I now find my Calender softkey key is unmapped. I have seen references that I just need to remap it using "Advance Config" but I can't find that either.
Can someone help a halfwit..!
Thanks, Steve.

The Advanced Config is here:http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/index.php?path=Kaiser+Cab+Collections/
hey, I have the same problem with programs opening up with my ear. the only solution I found is to turn ur screen off while on a call (press power button) or don't press ur ear as hard to the phone
omar
thats what i did. im still seeking a software which can automaticly lock the touch screen while on the call.
The easiest way is to just push the power button on the right side of your device while you're talking, as sometimes you might want to hit the speaker phone button or use the keypad. If you use this method of pushing the power button, all you need to do is hit it again and your screen is active.
PhoneAlarm will automatically blank the screen for you when a call is connected.
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
i might be wrong but when i tested S2U2 a while ago i recall seeing something about an option to "blank screen" during calls... may be worth a try, its free and available here at xda =)
cheers

As in post # 6 I also recommend PhoneAlarm. Does the job really nicely for me.
Thanks for all your fast answers..!
I knew all you smart guys would know what to do...
Somehow I am able to manage to switch of my phone ...
With my ear I am entering the connection manager and than I disable the phone or enter flight mode.
I am coming from a SE P990 and here the screen is automaticaly locked during a call.
It would make defenitly sense to block the input from the touch panel during a call, but keeping the display on for basic information. On the other side I would like to have also access if I want to look for a contact information or agenda setting during a call.
Claus
There are alternative solutions like PalmarySoft Phone ScreenLock which explicitely locks the touch screen without turning it off during call.
The best is that this app. does nothing else ... no today plugins ... nothing in excess.
Simple ... yet usefull.
Does it have the functionality to unlock while you're on the call?
Say you want to look something up while on the phone....
yes it does.
Does anyone know how to stop the device returning to the Touchflo 3D home screen every time I wake the device up? I have a Touch Pro but no-one seems to know the answer to this in the forum and I guess it's a TF3D issue.
I can't find anything about this on a search, but I'm sure I remember reading about it in the Diamond forum.
It's annoying when it goes off when I'm writing a text message or in a call or listening to music and I have to navigate all the way back.
Same Problem
yes... i have the exact same problem.
To add to it, I've set autolock also. When I'm trying to watch a vedio on you tube, and if it's taking some time to buffer, the phone locks. And upon unlocking, i'll find myself in the home screen... and have to navigate back to youtube menu all again.
Very uncomfortable behaviour, especially when you are trying to show off the features on your phone to friends...
Is this solved in any new ROMs... or is there a tweak for setting this right?
I like the autolock thing - it's great. However when I'm writing a message or something it is so annoying.
Also, because the screen on the Touch Pro goes off in calls, it always goes back to the home screen so you can't see the call status, can't add notes and can't read contacts as easily. More annoyingly, my line of work involves phone systems that require entering numbers a lot so I always need to see the phone keypad. Very annoying.
did you guys every get this sorted. Just got my diamond 2 and I have the same annoying problem
Is there ANYTHING I can do to make this device work in a sensible way?
I mean I find it deeply unsettling that I have yet to see anyone else complain about the huge design flaw this phone has.
That being, when I receive a call, the touch screen activates at the slightest touch. That doesn't make sense because I don't tie it to my wrist... I carry it in my pocket or my belt clip and even in my belt clip it presses random spots on the touch screen. I want it to not do that, first of all. In fact I don't want the phone to even turn on touch activation until I give it clearance to turn on, because otherwise it will stay there and randomly press buttons until I check my phone and realize someone called me an hour ago.
Because that's the thing—I need it on vibrate a vast majority of the time, I can't feel it vibrate but it'll open random programs or do random crap. I can always tell because whenever I decide to reach down and check my phone I feel it overheating, and I think, "Yup. Someone called me and I didn't hear or feel it vibrate." That's actually ridiculous. That's severely headache inducing at how completely backwards it is without the option to change it in settings. At least not that I've seen. As I've said, no one else is complaining about it... so what are you guys doing?
I'm sorry but as I said, this phone drives me nuts. I can't help but feel angry just by talking about it.
Actually you could either turn on the screen lock so that even if it turns on, it's locked and none of the buttons or screen touching will do anything, and the machine will turn itself off after a while.
Or,
you can install BSB tweaks and set it so that the phone doesn't turn on unless you tell it to.
Most of the time it's not the device, it's the user. Especially obvious when reading user reviews and most users claim features don't exist when in fact they never found them. Or phone is capable of certain things, but the user is not only unaware, they are angry the features are not there.
GET TO KNOW YOUR DEVICE or use available tweaks and information
use a loud ringtone, use vibrate, use a screenlock program... (S2U2 is excellent, but you may find it complex).
Or extend the phone ring time before it goes into voicemail (that's in phone settings I recall)
The phone is not perfect, but it can very easily be configured to avoid accidental answering or not noticing the call in the first place. That said, the standard options are not good...
To be fair, I'm not stupid, but I am pretty ignorant when it comes to stuff like this. Bear in mind I've been using an old flip phone for the majority of my life, and I've spent a good amount of time looking through my X1 for a setting that would make my phone work better. I've found nothing that would keep the touch screen off for incoming calls or texts, which genuinely irks me.
Yes I tried locking the phone for a while, but it's a pain getting a call and then not being able to answer in time because I notice it late, pull it out, and then have to unlock it to answer. Also, locking the phone didn't stop the touch screen from turning on and pressing random buttons... it was just that with it locked there were no buttons to press except the digit code and I might be right to guess that my phone would lock me out completely if I randomly hit the wrong buttons enough times. Also the backlight was draining the battery and it was overheating anyway. It didn't make a difference.
I also spent a generous amount of time on the internet looking for solutions, but as I've said, no one else seems to have had my problem, so I was certain I wouldn't find a solution until I asked for myself. Believe me, I wouldn't have posted anything here if I'd found one.
Anyway I'll try "tweaking" it as was suggested. Thanks for the help.
(Also bear in mind having to "tweak" a device DOES suggest it was badly designed in the first place, which was kind of my point. Paul C knows what I'm talkin' 'bout.)
Peace.

First of all tweaking does not mean a phone was badly designed, tweaking or modding gives the option to add, remove, or change anything you want in your phone. With your logic every smart phone was badly design becuase everybody tweaks their phones. And what you are saying makes no freaking sense. How can you not answer a call when your phone is lock, the incoming call pops up on the screen? How is your phone turning on and pressing random buttons when it's locked lol? How about you give more info on what rom you are using becuase what your saying makes no dam sense.
Oh, come on, man. It was my first smart phone. If I wasn't giving it the benefit of the doubt that I COULD do something about my issues, I would've taken the phone back. Instead I posted here and asked, because I was fed up using the search function trying to figure out what I was doing.

I'm sure most people don't tweak their phone to fix rudimentary issues that cripple the usability of the phone.
Don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD my issue can be fixed, and thank you. I'm just saying. I didn't know, and the result of not being able to figure it out was me being upset with the device.
Do you want to continue this pointless argument or can we just drop it now?

The screen turns on regardless of whether or not it's locked. It rings, and the screen turns on, but instead of allowing you to answer right away, it prompts you for the pin to unlock it. So I CAN answer a call, just sometimes not fast enough because of factors I already specified.
And if I'm not aware I'm being called, when I miss the call the screen stays on in my belt clip, and every time the screen is touched, the backlight remains on. Since it keeps being touched, it never shuts off. And the only buttons on the screen are the pinpad numbers, so it just hits those instead. This is how I got the phone.
So, since whether I lock it or not I get the same annoyances, I choose not to lock it.
Also I have yet to find a tweak that keeps the phone's touch response off for receiving calls, and turns off the screen entirely when or if the call is missed. I would really benefit from something like that to prevent it opening random programs or texting landlines with "aufgfdjkw"...
I'll keep looking.

For the 2nd time what rom are you using? 6.1 or 6.5? If it keeps being touched on your belt clip why not just keep your phone in your pocket instead? Also what is your backlight power time settings, like what is the time intervals of when you screen shuts off? Also maybe the latest version of the lock app S2U2 V2.41 might solve your problems. I've had my phone for 8 month's and have never experienced what you are saying or herd of but then again I don't keep my phone on a beltclip I keep it in my pocket. It sounds like S2U2 2.41 should help because it gives access to those options you want to change in the S2U2 settings.
This seems to be a rom problem. My phone does nothing you described. After the screen goes off it does not react to any touching of the screen at all. When its in standy mode (screen off) and a call comes in it reactivates the screen and the call can be answered either by touching the corresponding area of the screen or by pressing the green hardware button. The same behaviour can be witnessed when I lock the phone prior to the screen turning off. So I can say I have never experienced problems like you. My phone runs the latest stock rom for Switzerland (German) and is not branded.

As mentioned previously there are many alternitive unlocking programs
Slide to unlock 2 (S2u2) is very good, customisable and free.
Here is the website http://ac-s2.com/ you can also find threads about it on XDA Developers.
I am currently using Throttle lock, Provides extra security without having to use pins, customisable, and free here is the website http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/Products/ThrottleLock/throttlelock-09
Once again you can find threads about it on XDA Developers.
to use either of these programs, just download the .cabs from the websites, transfer them to your phone and click on them to begin installation.
hope that helps.

What difference would that make? I keep other things in my pocket that are probably more likely to hit the touch screen. Besides, I got the phone before I got a belt clip. It was in my pocket first. I thought the belt clip would make it better. Since it doesn't I still prefer the belt clip for the phone's accessibility.

On that screen in the settings there's an option to turn off the device after a certain amount of time. Before, when I was in those settings, I had it unchecked, thinking it would turn the phone off completely. But it does exactly what I want—it disables the touch screen after a minute.
Still, that's not a perfect solution, but it helps a lot. That plus the lock app should make it well within working standards. Thank you.
SORRY FOR WASTING YOUR TIME GUYS. I take back what I said. I'm now an enlightened individual. I can build rainbows with my mouth.

Maybe a magnet on your belt phone keeper
turns on the phone...........
Recently I also discovered that keeping X1 close to a second mobile phone MAKES X1 randomly open apps by itself....
Crazy but true!!!!
Once somebody calls you and quits,
without your reaction there's no way you can activate anything if your phone is locked with a code....
A short press of the power button suspends the screen? lol.
I was about to say it but sean0r beat me to it (by weeks lol)
I felt the same thing when I first bought the phone (1-2 hours).
I just usually set my backlight to turn off after 10-30 secs. (Settings->Power->Advance Tab)
And I also don't use the lock feature since I think it's more of a hassle then to just turn the screen off (power button, like sean0r said) then turn the screen on again when I'm about to use it. It basically does the same thing like the lock/unlock button, it help prevents unwanted screen touch, only I feel it's way way more faster than the unlock button (even if you configured the lock/unlock button, to lock quicker).
And since you're new, if you haven't used any of the great custom ROMs you should definitely try it!! Read the guides carefully though, I warn you it might be addictive =D
The custom ROMs and this great XDA community is what made me keep this phone despite this phone's poor poor poor poor poor...I mean horrible build quality! Sony should thank these guys...seriously...
Sorry for bumping an old thread...
I'll rebump - flash Mr. Rusch's Touch X ROM if you are a noob. It is slick, stable, and well configured by default.
It isn't the flashiest, but it is stable and convenient. I highly recommend for beginners.
Sounds like you're using the actual security lock with password, try just using the keylock where you slide it to use it. (Like iphone)
regardless, I think you should flash energie rom on your phone.
Ive flashed many many roms including spikegottis, 826x, and even various Titanium roms but energie is the best overall for speed, apps and reliability
Hi, I have a huge problem. Every time I make a call, preferably my voicemail, it asks me to press a number in the keypad.
Okay, that's fine. But the only problem is the screen blacks out immediately when the call is made and I cannot choose any of the options. I'm still in the call, although it will repeat the options for about a minute and just end the call.
I can't end the call manually or use the keypad. Tried pressing the lock button, the search, the menu, and Back button. Nothing seems to work.
Is there anything I can do about this? Because this is really becoming a hinderance.
Hi the proximity sensor should brighten the display up the moment you take it away from your ear, if it dosent prpbably there is a problem with it and you need to check it out with either the provider or HTC if you can.
normally to end call you click on the notification on top of the phone.
It is kinda annoying there is no physical button to end calls but i guess thats touchscreens for you
Probabily you use one case
that cover the proximty sensor
I don't use any case or screen protiction... maybe I should to replace it...Thanks..

I had the same problem. Hard reset solved it. Also solved a problem I had connecting with intermittent connections to Wifi. I think a bum app may have caused the problems.
Starting to happen again, not like last time though. Now it's intermitent and seem to recover when the other end hangs up. May try to get a replacement phone this time.
From what I've seen around the internet this is an OS issue... And it happens to me intermittently as well, though my lock button brightens the display... It seems to have something to do with the screen timeout and the lock screen enabling itself...
Mine had the same issue.
I would pull it away from my face, nothing.
Laid it down flat, nothing
Occasionally it would flash.
I had to return it, no problems since.
The sensor must have been loose and slid behind the open area of the glass.
If you can still, get a replacement
My replacement is in the mail. I have found that if I shake or tap the phone it will flicker and come back during a call. I think the sensor is faulty.
