M7 OTA Lollipop update - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have an M7 from Orange UK, which I now use on slovak Orange. Now I wanted to get the update for Lollipop, but unless I'm in the UK my options are limited. I don't have s-off, I am not rooted, I am 100% stock. So I can either flash a slovak RUU on the phone (I don't want to go through root, s-off etc) or I could possibly get the update file I would normally download from servers (from UK Orange), put it onto my phone and run it. I have found some on the Net, but only for WWE, since my CID is orang001 I'm not sure if it would work. Could you advise? Or, even better, would anyone be able to route me to the file for UK Orange? Thanks in advance for any tip, it really is appreciated.

Maybe this helps : androidruu.com/index.php?developer=M7
Sorry, can´t post links. i´m just a noob.

Flashing a ruu not intended for your phone require s-off.

Manually installing ota update require s-off.
So your option are to achieve s-off or to unlock ythe bootloader only and use custom roms.

Well...you know how when you download the update and not install it right away? Then your phone says "an update was found, would you like to install it?" - this is where I wanted to get to. But the more I think about it the more I understand I would need root to get to the folder where android keeps updates. So it would be easier to get the root, put there RUU with slovak Orange CID and then get the update the usual way.

You can't start this process yourself. The phone must detect that there is an ota update by itself when searching for it in settings--> about-->sotware update

No you don't need root. Ota updates are stored in /sdcard/Download. But you will need S-OFF to start the update process from stock recovery.

You can't change your phone to another version using a RUU without having s-off

[Q] OTA delay

Hi.
I've come to notice that every time an OTA update is available I'm the last one to get it. In December when Sense 3.0 update came out I only got it about 2 months after the official update announcement. And now it looks like it's happening again with the ICS update.
Anyhow I bought my phone second hand, and how can I now to which region it belongs? Is there a way to know how long do I have to wait for the update, or how top get it faster.?
Hmmm.... why does even HTC bother with this region nonsense.?
Please an answer to this?
Im 100% new here.
So far it looks like only some European countries have received the update, and only for WWE phones, to find out if it's a WWE phone you can check with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot getvar cid
If it's HTC__001 you have a WWE phone. I live in the UK and haven't got the update yet, but I'm hoping to get it at least this week. If your phones not WWE, then it'll probably take even longer for your update to be released.
Can you give me the steps to get in fast boot please?

since all you're needing is the cid, just go grab CID getter off the store. It's free and will tell you your carrier ID and thus who you're beholden to for updates.
As kouroshp said, if the CID is HTC_001, you have a WWE phone (SIM-unlocked and purchased from HTC, rather than via a carrier) and get your updates straight from HTC and thus you're likely to get your updates soonest.
If it isn't, then you know who to bother about when you'll be getting the update.
Either download the Android SDK or these files, either should give you fastboot.
Power off your phone, power it back on holding the power button and the volume-down button, select fastboot from the list (using the volume keys to navigate and the power to select), then connect your phone to your PC.
Then open command prompt, change to the directory containing fastboot, and enter what I said in my previous post. Select reboot afterwards.
EDIT: Or what compro01 said, got there before me
I noticed a link that was posted on the other thread. Is this for all phones?

What this means is you have a XTC Clip'd IncS, but you have the North American version based on the BM___001 value.
The NA IncS is modelid PG3212000. The update is for the modelid PG3213000, so the official OTA would fail with device id error.
The good news is since you are S-OFF/carrier unlocked via XTC Clip, you can force the WWE version of 3.11.405.2 on your phone and then force the ICS OTA.
Thanks a lot for the reply.
I understood half of what you said...i'm completey new with android and hacking but from what i understand my model of HTC isn't the on compatible with the OTA update but since i'm S-OFF i can force the update using recovery boot and forcing it to launch the instalation?(Using this file i assume)

First you have to get the latest version of GB 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 installed on your phone. This will be WWE 3.11.405.2. This is the only version that the OTA file will upgrade.

[Q] Requirements for upcoming OTA

I've been searching the threads, and didn't find one for an answer to my question, so I've decided to try here. I have the dev edition, S-OFF, unlocked, rooted, with stock recovery and stock 1.29.1540.17 rom. My question is, when the OTA's roll out, will my phone receive it, and be able to update it? If not, what do I need to do for this to happen? In other words, what are the requirements to successfully receive and update via OTA? I've updated a few times and gone back to stock (which, for me is 1.29.1540.16), and every time, with s-off, unlock and root, the OTA update always came to update to .17, so I'm inclined to think that I would receive any others as well. I guess I just would maybe like my assumptions seconded to ease my mind, lol? In any case, any help would be appreciated.

Not exactly sure, but I thought you also needed to have the bootloader locked (or relocked) and no root (has to be odexed stock rom, so root wouldnt be included).
But, as I said, I'm not 100% sure.
Hope someone can add more info, as I am also interested.
Just gonna add my input here.
I'm more than 90% sure that if you have S-Off, you can flash the OTA using rebootRUU (downloading the OTA, connecting your phone to the computer, extracting the firmware.zip and flashing using fastboot oem rebootRUU, then fastboot flash zip firmware.zip) provided you're running some version of the previous firmware with a locked bootloader.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Two things:
1- how do you get the OTA if you're not 100% stock? It wont download unless your phone is "recognized" to be stock and locked/relocked
2- if it is an official OTA, then the firmware would be signed anyway, so you dont need s-off. if you are s-off then you can flash ANY firmware from any MID & CID found on the various threads here (that's how I was able to update). Otherwise you CID and MID have to match a signed firmware

The dev edition comes factory shipped bootloader unlocked. So, really the only changes I made to the phone are s-off and root. Could that be why I received my OTA? Perhaps my specific update takes that into account?

OTAs will be fine, you might lose root, but putting it back is easy enough, same procedure as before.
I think you can keep S-off and unlocked bootloader. You need stock recovery though.

[Q] Can I accept the OTA download?

I have an AT&T HTC One that I converted to a rooted Dev Edition 4.3 and I've been using CWM touch. I'm S-Off and recently switched back to AT&T CID since I read that that was a better setting than SuperCID. I'm now being offered OTA download of the KitKat/Sense 5.5 update, but I'm not sure whether I should accept the download? Will it work? If not, what would happen?
Thanks for insights.

Nope. I wouldn't touch it if I were you. Unless you're using the stock recovery (and ideally not rooted), don't accept an OTA update. If you for some reason want to keep your custom recovery, you could try manually downloading it and sticking it in your phone memory to install from.
Download link from HTC: http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_M7_UL_K44....1540.1_R4_release_342621pwc1arsthngg08zv.zip
If you want to take it via OTA, you must first flash the stock recovery to the phone. You can leave it rooted if you want, but you may lose root after the update anyway. Can't say for certain since I'm running stock (aside from being unlocked and S-Off). Also, change your CID to BS_US001. There's no advantage to using the wrong CID.

Thanks. That was kind of what I was guessing. Is it possible to remove root temporarily? Given that I'm S-off, I'm not too worried about being able to get it back. I'm trying to avoid a full wipe if possible.
To completely remove root I think you have to flash a stock RUU, which will wipe your phone. If you get back to stock recovery, flash the OTA update through recovery, you should be ok. But you may need to root again.

[Q] HTC One update with unlocked SIM

HTC One update with unlocked SIM
Hello everyone,
This is my first post on this forum and I apologize if the post is in the wrong category. And sorry for the android rookie questions, but I really need your help.
I own HTC One
I bought it with SIM lock
Phone has custom recovery (TeamWin) and it is s-OFF. I am not sure that I understand completely what this means but I found out this facts while reading this forum.
At the end, phone is unlocked (SIM unlock) by local service store (40 EUR).
I would like to update the software and OTA update does not work.
I would be grateful for step by step instructions how to update the phone software and not to SIM-lock the phone again.
My biggest concern is not to pay again for SIM unlock.
You have attached screenshots…
Thank you!

To receive and install OTA updates you need to have the stock recovery on your device. If you re-flash the stock recovery, you can install the OTA update. Once it has properly installed you can go replace stock recovery with TWRP.
I'm pretty sure it won't re-apply the SIM-lock to your phone, but I wouldn't like to say for certain. (Mine came already unlocked)

That's not true. Just have to install the stock recovery, then you can do the OTA update. After the update, reinstall either CWM or TWRP and flash SuperSU or Superuser to regain root. The OTA should not affect SIM unlock at all, at least it never has in my experience.
honestly it would be easier to just go with a custom rom since hes already s-off and custom recovery
OP. 2. options.
1. Flash this recovery, and hit the OTA check button. http://d-h.st/M4R
2. Download this RUU package: http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...31.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe

yes you can update your firmware and flash a custom rom, if your looking for a close to stock experience i would advise ARHD 51
I just wanted to chime in and assure you that your sim unlock will not be affected by flashing custom ROMs, RUUs, firmwares, radios, recoveries, etc. I have flashed everything under the sun on my One and have retained my sim unlock.

Are these OK and which to use?
If these are not OK which should I use?
Please, please, I just need this one info.
Let me ask different question:
Is it must for RUU to match version-main?
My version is on the picture (1.29.401.12) and I found only one RUU for this version but not for my CID (HTC__032).
What to do?

The important thing to verify is that your CID matches what the RUU is designed for. On either of those RUU's you mention, look in the comments section of the post and see the CIDs. As long as you have one of those CIDs, you can install it.
Also, if you look at the RUU version number (1.20.401.1), you notice the third number in the sequence is "401". This signifies the WWE (World Wide Edition) version, so it will work with the majority of devices. The .401 firmwares are what most custom ROMs are based on, and are generally considered to be the most compatible. I am running a .401 firmware on my AT&T device without any issues. So any RUU with a .401 version would work for you.

No, the version-main doesn't need to match. That is just the current firmware version you have installed. If you install an RUU, it will update you to whatever version the RUU is based on. The only thing, if your device is still s-on, you can't install an RUU with a LOWER version than what is shown in version-main. You can upgrade with an RUU if you are s-on, just not downgrade.
The important thing is to find an RUU that works with CID "HTC__032".
Hmm... both those RUUs are lower than what you currently have, so they won't run with s-on. If you really want to be able to run the RUU, you're going to have to s-off so you can run the lower RUU, then update with the OTA.
If you're not ready for doing s-off, you might want to think about just leaving it as is, installing a custom recovery like TWRP, and flashing a custom stock ROM like the ARHD Stock Rom. You can't get OTA, but that's alright because it already is updated. Any of the custom ROMs will work fine with .401 firmwares like you have. I would recommend this route over the s-off and RUU method, honestly, that's a lot of work for little gain, unless you just absolutely must get back to stock.
Anyway, hope this helps!

Stuck on 4.1.2 can't update to Sense 6/4.4, Three UK Unlocked Stock ROM

Hi everyone,
I've just bought an used HTC One M7 that was locked to Three UK but I managed to get it unlocked via a code from ebay. The phone is on 4.1.2 and the recovery mode shows S-ON, LOCKED so I'm guessing its all stock. The CID is H3G_001 and the OTA updater keeps saying that I'm already on the latest update. The phone isn't rooted either. I've already tried resetting to factory settings but that didn't help. I've had a look at RUU's but couldn't find anything for Three UK/H3G_001.
Could anyone tell me how I could get the Sense 6 update? I've tried clearing the data/cache in the updater and google services framework but still nothing. I don't want to tamper with the bootloader etc if possible.
Thanks,
Anthony

Updates are dependent on the carrier for carrier locked phones. It is possible that H3G has not updated their phone. A lot of people will S-OFF their phone to change their CID & MID to get the updates quicker by going to either the Int'l (.401) version or the DevEd (.1540) version which are updated directly from HTC. Your version is .771. For carrier updates, you must remain on the carrier's network to receive them. Check with H3G to see if an update is available and when or if you can expect to receive it.

Hey there, thanks for your reply.
I've had a look around the internet and I've found the OTA update zip for my phone from 4.1.2 to 4.2 (1.28.771 to 2.24.771), then another one OTA zip for 4.2 to 4.3 (2.24.771 to 3.62.771). However the issue now is, I can't flash it using the stock recovery as I have S-ON I believe and it throws back an "invalid operation" error when I try to apply an update via internal storage. I'm trying to get S-OFF but I'm not having any luck at the moment, as ideally I don't want to mess with the bootloader. I'll give it another go tomorrow, given up for tonight.
The phone is for my brother and he's fine with 4.1.2/Sense 5 tbh but would like Sense 6 features if possible.

if you don't want to mess with the bootloader then try Sunshine to s-off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53624322

OTA update is flashed in stock recovery. Here is a post explaining the OTA process. This post might explain what you are missing for the OTA to work. I think you must select from "internal storage" instead of "sdcard" when you install the OTA.

I've tried following the process but it just gives a "Invalid Operation" message when ever I select from Internal Storage. I'm losing patience with this, why can't OTA just work.
Thanks for your help anyways.

Try following this post. Make sure that your version number matches exactly the second version in the file name. Change the name to "update.zip" and place in the SDCARD.
