[Q] D5803 lollipop to D5833 region - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to try the lollipop that everyone loses their mind with so is it okay to flash d5803 firmware to d5833 phone? Is there a very simple guide here that explains everything? And when I flashed that d5803 firmware will I lose my keys?
Also, if I dont like the lollipop, can I flash back to d5833 kitkat firmware?
Thank you guys! I dont have any knowledge about this flashing things so I wanna ask you guys first.

I'm no pro and not sure if folks will answer without telling you to search. But I'm almost sure this is a surefire way to brick your phone. Differences between radios and stuff will have a significant impact on your device functionality. Talking from experience of flashing a lot of roms, not a dev by any means.

I actually searched about it here and this is the only thread that I saw. http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/flashing-d5803-to-d5833-make-difference-t3068857
One member said that he has d5833 singapore version with d5803 italy firmware. I am convinced that nothing will happen but I know there will be. But I want to ask also for assurance
With your experience in flashing a lot of roms, I can reflash back to kitkat( d5833 firmware) from my bricked phone right?

I am using 5803 firmware Italy on my 5833. Everything works. You will have absolutely no problems. In fact i didn't even wipe data. (Using flashtool)
Also you can flash back to 5833 kitkat firmware but it has to be a clean flash (must wipe data).

Btw, when I flash back to kitkat, is it the same procedure but Im wiping data this time? I saw this guide from xperia blog and I think this is the guide that I will follow through http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
Is that a good guide? Thank you for your reply!

Been out of the flashing world for some time now, as i need my phone for work and can't risk a bricked phone for even a day. Do we still have to worry about losing Sony licenses for the camera and bravia engines from unlocking the bootloader? Forgive me, i can't remember all of the terms. Do we need top unlock the bootloader to boot still?

If you root with this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/giefroot-rooting-tool-cve-2014-4322-t3011598 your bootloader will stay locked with TA keys, if you want to unlock the bootloader - FIRST backup the TA keys with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 then you can unlock bootloader and if you need to send your phone in for repairs just restore the TA keys

NaminatoR1254jaime.sier said:
Yeah, I did flash it.
I used xperifirm to download a Generic Latinamerican Firmware, because Im from Chile, and I use carrier Movistar, and their firmware is soooooo old, is the number version you use to root the z3c (the one finishing in .93)
After that, I used flashtool (I used 0.9.18.3) and built the firmware, but left cust-reset.ta and the other reset.ta out of it.
Finally, with the same flashtool I flashed everything, except baseband and in wipe I unticked data.
Took a long while to flash and a longer to boot (optimizing apps blabla) but it runs great.
EDIT: Working with it a little more, the only thing I dont have working is the led notifications.
EDIT2: Yes I do. Turns out I love to use the phone in silent mode...but silent mode [and priority mode] disables led notifications (even if they are in fact enabled in settings). So I have to use "sound mode" and vibration.

Usually when you downgrade from a newer firmware (this is from experience) without wiping data there will be an unlimited wave of error messages popping up. so yes if you want to go back to KitKat wipe data as well - you can make a backup of data using TWRP then restore only the data (that worked for me a few times)
And yes that guid looks good - although you can just download the .ftf file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706 Just makes the process a bit easier

Yes it's the best guide. go for it! When you flash back to kit kat you have to wipe data. But when you upgrade to lollipop from kitkat you don't necessarily have to wipe data. Have fun
And like he said, just grab the ftf from that link. That will save you the trouble of going through the xperifirm steps. Just follow the flashtool steps. Make sure you copy the ftf you download from that link to flashtool>firmwares. Then it will show up in the list. Follow the rest of the steps from the xperiablog link

Hello there!
I am with Nordic (5803) version on my 5833 phone since a week ago. No problems so far, i am just not using 4G (where the most differences are assumed to be).
The only issue I had, was the battery drain in the first hours after I've flashed. Then i just restarted the phone, and since then, no problems.

I'm using the Baltic D5803 Lollipop update on my Australian D5833. No issues or noticeable change in radio connectivity, I'd say flash away.
Seems 100% cross compatible with D5833. No idea why some users are suggesting it will soft brick or otherwise harm your device.

I must admit, I'm pretty surprised to see this. Haven't rooted anything since my Z1. When i had my previous Samsung and HTC phones, using firmware from models usually bricked the phone. Nice to see it possible here.

[Q] Xperia Z unbranding and keeping stock data

Is there a way to unbrand my Xperia Z without loosing stock video and pictures? The thing is, I want all additional software added to my phone by T-mobile to be gone while keeping that beautiful stock landscapes video and pictures. If I check all three "wipe" in flashtool, I guess I will loose everything. If I uncheck all three "wipe" I guess that wont remove any additional software.
Can I do that without backing up and restoring via PC Companion. Restoring data via PC Companion mixes up all the pictures and video in album menu, and I hate that.
The way to unbrand the phone is:
-flash whatever firmware you want
-root it.
-uninstall all unwanted apps using a tool such as Titanium Backup.
-delete the customization files to avoid reinstallation after a reboot with Root Explorer or something like it. These files are usually in /etc/product/applications and /etc/product/content.
That's the way I do it, I don't know any other..

Hi, If only flash without rooting your phone, wont void warranty. U can debrand urs using flashtool. And if wanna preserve ur user data, just untick option "wipe data" . I did mine, downgraded 253 FW SING..to Unbrand UK 350 firmware. U may check ur customization version to determine ur phone software region to be flashed, using *#*#7378423#*#* and go Software info. We have ftf region database in xda
Oh right, sometimes, u may have faster/slower updates via OTA due different regions receiving their updates in different time. Hope helps

No, u only sound mod like AcidEngine forgot its name when U ROOT (which u sorta void warranty) As i mentioned, it helps to determine your Z software info and its software region originated. By looking at its customisation version for example:
1270-XXXX-R6A is belongs to Singapore
You can visit
this thread for finding best compatible FTF files for you to flash.
And also focus on File System Version too, because some xperia Z doesnt have LTE support..if flash wrong firmware, will mess up with LTE bands
Hope helps

Flashing roms questions LB

So i swapped this phone for my HTC One with a buddy of mine, and he had this 4.2.2 rom installed on it. He kind of told me what i needed in order to flash a rom. He said I need TFT and the rom file.
Well last night he was able to help me install TWRP recover with an XDA app that is floating around, he then told me that I can simply flash a locked bootloader from there, no Gapps or anything else needed.
So I did that, but now my wifi is not working and my Google account is not syncing, and I have no option to have it synced. So i asked the rom thread and was told that now i need to flash a certain kernel in order for my wifi to work again.
Coming from a regular flash and ready phone this seems like a headache to do each time i flash a rom. Last night i had made up my mind that i was going back to the HTC or possibly the S4. But now this phone is growing on me, i actually am starting to like it a lot!
My question is this, is there any rom out there that i can flash that will have everything working out of the box or do i ALWAYS need this TFt tool thing in order for my phone to work properly?
Please dont flame me and reply only if you can help me.
First, your friend might has done something wrong with your phone, although the TWRP seems working fine.
Second, figure out what your friend has done, in detail. So you know exactly the steps.
Third, look for a thread titled like "Xperia Z resources thread ... " learn everything from it so you can get basic knowledge about your XZ. Then analyze your problem based on the information of what your friend has done to your phone. In this step, you should have figured out what's wrong quickly and do something about it.
Answer for your question : flash stock firmware. Look for. 244 ftf file. Stock firmware always have everything working.

Thanks for the quick reply bro, can I flash this through TWRP or what do you recommend? I know that TWRP is working properly, but from what I reading i will always need some tft file ...I just want my phone to work like it should. Is there a ROM that you recommend? I am currently on monxDified.
I recommend a clean flash using flashtool and then flash your desired ROM. Monxdified is quite awesome. To get rid of all your problems, I recommend a clean install of your favorite ROM and kernel. Are you willing to do that? Because it will take some time to finish.

Yes I am willing to, so download the rom zip, and .244 kernel and flash the rom first then the kernel through tft correct?
By the way where can I get that kernel? I have been looking for it...
Hi, I suggest you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38122227, then you'll be able to choose any ROM you like.

Thanks bud i read throuhg this now and located what I needed...kinda. I am told that I need kernel 244, and that i need tft to do this, yet in this guid it indicates that I can use recovery method to flash a kernel..
CUSTOM KERNELS ARE SPECIFIC TO ROMs...
you cant use stock kernel on CM ROM and you cant use CM kernel on stock ROM....
there are two ways to flash custom kernel
first download the kernel file... if it is a boot.img then use Method 1 (fastboot mode) or if its a update.zip file then use Method 2 (recovery)
See how this is confusing .....so is there such a thing as a 244 kernel zip file?

Hi.
First of all it's an .ftf file you need not TFT, and did he say the bootloader is unlocked or that you can do it if you want? You can flash certain ROMs on a locked bootloader but not all, so I would clarify if it is or it isn't. Flash a full stock ftf for now and go from there, it will be better off in the long run.

[Q] Downgrade from 4.4.2 KK - 4.3 JB. Help.

First of all, I've tried searching and reading tons of forums/guides the past hours, but I can't get this to work. So please excuse me if I've missed something
I'm trying to downgrade my Xperia Z1 from (the horrible) KK update 4.4.2. to my stock 4.3 JB. I've tried flashing the following FTF's:
C6903_14.2.A.1.136_Generic Nordic NCB_1276-9897.ftf
C6903_14.2.A.0.290_Customized NCB 1276-9897 (Nordic Combined).ftf
C6903_14.1.G.1.534_1276-4314_R2A.ftf
All found here!
No one works. I keep getting bootloops (I can se the startup animation, then it restarts). I manged to get my phone working with using the orginal KK FTF (C6903_14.3.A.0.681_Generic NCB 1276-9897 (Nordic).ftf).
Could somebody please help me and figure out what the problem is? I've added my Software Info as an attachment.
Thanks for any replies!
Really weird, if you flashed them correctly from Flashtool v0.9.15 they should work, check the version of your Flashtool if is correct. Also try the one (FW .534) provided by NUT for C6903, here.

Flashmode->Choose FTF->Wipe Appslog and Cache, uncheck Data->Flash
That looks like 4.2. FW, and a custom ROM? I would like to have the original 4.3 .

Hm.. I'm not sure about a custom ROM, It's a road I'm not quite familiar with, if you understand .
There isn't any troubleshooting I could do that you can think of? Have i selected the right FTF for my phone? Is it actually possible to downgrade from 4.4.2. to 4.3?
EDIT:
If I'm going to delete my data, exactly WHAT am I losing? I want to know what I have to take backup of before trying that out.

OK, then, wipe everything and make a fresh installation of 4.3, I think this will work. Backup anything what is important to you, Pictures, Vids, or Data games to not going to download them again. I don't know, wipe everything..

You will find all on XDA just by searching the right Words.
You have to use "Flashtool v0.9.16", download the FTF from "Mega Collection" for your Model (C6902/3/6). Download the FTF "Generic" or "Commercial", the customization have nothing to do with that, put that FTF in the Folder of Flashtool, Run Flashtool, Flash, select the right FTF, put your Phone in "Flashmode" and when Flashtool asking connect the phone via USB to PC, Wipe everything Data, Cashe, Appslog. Done.
Do not ask for step by step, all what you have to know I already wrote.
Clik Thanx.

LB = locked bootloader
UB = unlocked bootloader
I also used @Nut's .757, my bootloader is locked and have never suffered from any camera issues.
Unfortunately my only suggestions would be to wipe cache..

I have noticed a trend with UB and camera issues. are you using a custom kernel? If not, i would consider relocking your bootloader or flashing your back up if you made one before you unlocked. Once thats done and you confirm camera working on .534.. follow this quide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52407809&postcount=2 this page is by @gregbradley
Hopefully everythin gwill work for you.

Go back to 534 using flashtool, then re-root your phone, then install a custom recovery, then install a custom rom, don't boot, boot to flashmode and flash the global or region specific FTF for your phone not the stripped version, obviously taking care not to include TA and System in the flash, also don't perform a wipe from within flashtool on the second flash.
Done
Obviously do this only when all else has failed, should only take around 20 minutes max

No I dont think so, I'm pretty sure you can relock your bootloader. There should be a guide in the develpment section.

upgrade or downgrade into 4.3 thats hope it will works
I had this issue with .681 using nut method aswell.
Followed all directions and wiped prior to flash in recovery. All was fine but.camera was pitch black and fuzzy it would take a picture with flash but only crap.
All I had to do was
back up using titanium
Enter recovery and factory reset
Wipe dalvic cache
Reboot
Reinstall vital data only from titanium
Do not restore any camera app or data
Working perfectly.
Hope this helps and is untested on .757
Sent from my C6906 using XDA Free mobile app
Everything is working now.
Just see above. how i fixed it and i am using 757.

Ivyroot only works on certain devices and certain lollipop kernels dated before Dec 15th you'll probably have to downgrade back to lollipop first.

If you have backed up your TA, all you need to do is to start the phone in flash mode (Google it) and use flashtool (Google it) and flash the ftf i.e. the firmware of your choice (Google it). Or use Sony Xperia companion to repair the firmware.
Remember that the advice of strangers is never a replacement for your own personal research. Take a look at the guide that I have posted in the general forum.

Well, of course I know! That is why I wrote the above-mentioned guide for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/guide-safe-bootloader-unlock-restore-t3386915
Please read it. Makes me feel less remorse for the hours I spent on writing it...
