So I would be able to save battery a little. I did the hidden menu thing and was able to force it onto 3g but when I go back into the settings it just switches back onto 4g

Won't save battery, there's only one radio in this device. The reason this saved battery in other devices is because you were turning off a radio.

There is not really a way to do this natively (although it is included in several Roms). There is this app . . although it does require root

This isn't technically true. LTE uses more energy than 3G. It doesn't matter how many radios you have. That's just how the technology works. 2 identical phones on the desk next to each other, one connected to LTE and one on 3G, the LTE one is using more energy.
You can read more about that here:
http://developer.att.com/applicatio...tices/comparing-lte-and-3g-energy-consumption
Op, please try to use descriptive thread titles.

you could try entering ##3282# , please wait while initiating...click edit mode, enter your msl. you can call sprint for your msl or run logcat and find the six digit number in there.
click on evdo, then click preferred mode. you should see automatic, hdr only, digital only, cdma only. try using digital only, it should run evdo only. also try hdr only as it should also only run in digital.
I tried entering that number and it says.the number or code u enterd is incorrect

That will only work if you're running a SenseUI (sucks, I know) ROM that has QPST on it. Flash a rom such as Nfinite's NFX or something like that. Then those ##xxxx# codes will work.
I believe you can still access basically the same menu on an aosp rom, don't remember the *#*#XXXX#*#* code though
You could check the market for an app called "network" or something similar. It may open it up

I can confirm, you need to use NFX 2.1 rom, as the FroyoSense is a GSM rom that is ported over to CDMA hero, and GSM roms dont use EPST as CDMA phones do...
So if I did the data thing would it still work if I switched back to this Rom

Well this seems to be working I switched back to nfx hero and there's a root app for cdma phones called msl reader I went to the settings selected evdo set it to hdr then I went to the top forgot what its called then hit enable then I pressed comit chAnges and it rebooted now its staying on evdo but will it still be saved in the settings if I switch back to a gsm Rom

thats great. glad i could help you out. be aware that while running evdo/digital only you wont be able to receive or place calls. calls use 1x and if im not mistaken, sms also needs 1x. thats how it was back in the day, anyway. so if you use the device strictly as a modem then you dont have to worry about switching back when youre finished with your data'ing.

Just got the revolution. 4g is killing my battery. I was wondering if there is anyway to toggle between 4g and 3g?
settings/wireless networks/mobile networks/system select/network mode/ select cdma only and it will reboot.
unfortunately, the only way to do it makes the phone reboot.. wonder why.. the charge can do it without rebooting
Widget
So theres no toggle widget like the evo? Kinda a lame. Does this cut all mobile data or does it just set me to 3g. Stupid questions ,but just asking.

setting to cdma limits it to 3g which is kinda useless since 4g allows for voice + data which is a big deal. it really is dumb how it has to reboot. hope a rooted rom fixes this somehow.
I think that would require a radio update from LG if i'm not mistaken. Someone will correct me if i'm wrong. I guess a rom dev could fake a reboot or something possibly. I really don't have that big of an issue letting it reboot.

Nah, looking through the code and it doesn't seem to *require* a reboot, it's just LG's cheap way to avoid having to tell all the 4G-related frameworks that 4g isn't available anymore.
They took the easy route it would appear.. (however, I haven't dumped the radio just yet, so I honestly dunno if it's required by the radio)

why download a app for something that is already built into the phone menu? Lte switch was usefull for my old thunderbolt, because the only other way to switch off 4g was to type in a number into the dialer.
Has anyone tried the RoamControl app on the stock One? (non rooted)

No you do not. I used it on my EVO 4g and 3D before I got root on those devices. It even states that it will work on some non rooted phones on their website. I sent an email to the dev, but I don't expect him to get back to me before I get the phone. Lol

I tried it on my unrooted HTC one, the app takes very long time to try roaming, but fails. I checked it under about, it says "Not roaming". How did you make it work, thanks.
I'm rooted, using v 1.4 of roam control which had been reported to work with the one.
my set up: using PRL 01115
Mobile data > network mode > automatic
Domestic voice and data are checked.
I am able to force the phone to roam and the roaming 3g speeds are at least double that of sprint's 3g speeds.
hope that helps.

The newest 2.8 update fixed all the licensing problems for me, but their support was frankly atrocious and did not get back to me at all. By the time they pushed the 2.8 update, my 7 day window for a refund had expired, so I wasn't able to refund/rebuy at the $1.
I have no problem with paying a dev for their work, but keep in mind that their e-mail support seems very hit and miss, which is poor form.
I updated to the latest OTA and I now don't have simultaneous voice + LTE. I know that the new tri band phones with Sprint Spark lost this feature but I didn't think the OTA would break an existing feature. Anyone else experience this??
First off, wrong section. Secondly, there is no way for that to be possible. When I was using the Sense 5.5 ports, the LTE signal would disappear on call, but the devs confirmed it was still working. We never found out why it happened, but data & voice on LTE will always work hence why everyone SVDO was dropped.

Data and voice at same times works fine on cm11.

The EVO LTE & S3 generation of phones were the only SVDO phones. S4 until now CAN'T do voice over 3g. You'll only get voice/data on WiFi and/or LTE!
I have noticed that since the update every-time I end a call I get the no data message and it takes 20-30 seconds for it to come back, rather annoying actually.

This phone prefers LTE, I have a very week and unstable LTE at my house so it's constantly cutting in and out. When I'm at home or work I set the phone to CDMA only. Look under mobile data settings. My battery lasts WAY longer and don't have a problem with getting calls. There is zero benefit to being on LTE when you are using wifi. Since LTE at the moment is data only. Only annoying part is switching it back and forth. I wish there was a widget for it or could set tasker to do it automatically.

Yea
LTE is built in to the SoC so when activated, it doesn't turn off. Unlike previous phones who had an external LTE radio, the battery usage is minimal. So overall you are saving battery. and true if you have weak or no LTE signal turning it off will help.

SoC = System on a Chip so LTE, CPU, GPU, CDMA, 3G etc... Are all on 1 chip the Snapdragon 801. Older phones had separate components and used more power but the components could be turned off when not needed. When you are switching to CDMA only you are not just turning off LTE you are changing the core settings on the chip.

I most definitely agree. I have an Airave at home and I have to manually switch to CDMA only while at home for the phone to connect to it. I have a very weak LTE signal so the phone automatically tries to connect to it. Very frustrating. Called airave supprt who said they are aware of the problem and are trying to work on a solution, but for now just manually switch to CDMA only when I get home.
