Huge "System Data" usage on storage - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm facing a problem with my storage space. Using the app "Disk Usage" I've found the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This enormous amount of memory used for "system data" isn't explicable. And I'm not been able to find a folder with a content to delete (of course I do have root access)
My first attempt was to delete a TWRP backup, whit actually worked, in part, since the original size of this partition was more than 14gb!
But I'm not finding the origins of the rest.
Somebody have already experienced it?
What could be the solution?

Same here. I don't know what is system data, I suspect some hidden files/folders, ex. thumbnails for gallery.

What size phone do you have? My 16gb has 5.8gb of system data, only 10.2gb available.

We're talking about sdcard storage as you can see in screenshot above.

Oops

I'm thinking that it maybe related with this:

I'm having a similar issue, except my system data is showing 16728MB, more than double the OP. I never had any storage issue before the latest 5.1 update so I thought maybe it was some temp files from the update so I cleared the /cache partition but that didn't help at all. Anyone else seeing excessively large system size?

Seems to be log files.. Can you update the OP with your installed Apps list?

I maybe wrong, but those look suspiciously like data corruption files.... Is your phone hanging/crashing suddenly? Have you lost certain files in your sdcard?
This has happened with me too.. Just format your memory card from a windows pc
I tried
I formatted SD card but these files appearing again. I don't have any issues like hanging phone, application close, restarting. etc.

If these files have appeared you after deleting any file stored on the microSD with the ES Explorer app, you can be running under KK do not have write permission and does not send it to the trash or leaving a log after the destruction. To my passing me something like, the solution was a Xposed module called "KitKat SD Card Full Access"

storage/emulated/0 after custom ROM, free space and new system problem.

Hi everyone,
few days ago i decided to flash custom ROM instead of my stock 4.1.1 android to my Smasung Galaxy S3 LTE. Everything seems to be fine but when i wanted to make backup through CWM it did it but to the last cwm folder in storage/emulated and then i couldn't make recovery from it. The path of my actual place where is the data is storage/emulated/0. I don't know why the old files are saved in storage/emulated, i can't see them in my windows. Only root browser can show them. Can i delete them? Or can i just change my new storage/emulated/0 path to the old one and use my old apps with new ROM? This is very annyoing problem cus i've got ~16 gb Samsung, and windows shows that there is only 11 gb available and a lot of this space is coverd by files i can't even see. How can i fix it?

thanks for help,

check if you have important files there, i get this when use dual boot or change different kernel or cwm - better use twrp hehe
open folder /data/media/0 and replace
first copy all form /sdcard (phone memory) to computer -not sdcard1

Low on storage

To begin with, I tried searching forum for similar threads, found one that was asked on 2009.
So I hope its not against the rules if I ask here.
My Z3C is in constant low storage mode. If I manage to free ups few MB it is back again. I dont have that many app installed. I would say I have less than average.
I think mostly its cache that takes lots of space. For example com.android.vending takes 2.2GB That I have no idea why and what for.
Spotify is 1.5GB but I know why (music downloads).
Tried Drive Storage Analyzer that showed me what where but it was not able to free some space.
I went through app and tried clearing that cache/data manually but it seems like futile work. Photos are already stored on SD card same as non essential apps.
Is there reliable app that would help me out? Or another way?

com.android.vending is the Google Play Store, might want to try to clear all data + cache of the Play Store.
Also, the facebook app eats a big chunk, probably tons of stuff cached inside the app. Clear that too.
Are you rooted or not? Might want to try SD Maid, it can free up some space
easiest way to clear that problem would be a factory reset, as that would eliminate every data + cache on the device. Gotta backup first though!

Problem storage note5

Hi'
I have one problem by phone and see this problem in other phone android..
please see this picture .

Also i go to internal storage. Dcim, select thumbnail, delete all the files from that folder and check and delete all send data in whatsapp.telegram...
what's the solution?
what it dosent show you is what the actual Android OS and system back up is using

Copy all folders/files from your phone & check the size, if it doesn't match up with the problem you are facing then It's better to factory reset & copy back only needed files.
I feel may be few files are hidden.

Question Out of storage issue

On my S21 Ultra, I'm showing to be 98% full. when I go to look at storage, I see this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see, nothing much is showing up as using that memory other than the "Other" area. How can I dig down into the "Other" area and see what's there that I can get rid of?
In the event that it makes a difference, the model number is SM-998U1; Android version 12; One UI versoin 4.0; Security patch level is Nov. 1, 2021.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Dow
Just about any File Explorer in Play Store will assist in identifying the files.
Porn...guaranteed you have filled up your phone with porn
You got porn brain 4 sure!
Possibly items in secure folder. Let's say you have an app like telegram app in secure folder and it has been saving 100s of videos.
LOL!
Actually, I've used a couple of file managers, and I can see what's there, but it doesn't seem to add up. What I'd really like is a tool that would show me intalled apps, along with the amount of storage they're using, including their data and cache values.
Settings
Apps
Change sort order (Your apps .............. (sort icon))
Size
Lists apps in size order with size underneath. The size shown includes data/cache.
For example, my first one is Spotify 2.41GB which is mostly cache data as it keeps some songs on device
Thanks for that. I'll keep it in mind for later. Last night, I finally threw up my hands and factory reset my phone. I figure it'll take me about a week to get MOST of the things back the way I like them. In the meantime however, my storage is MUCH better than it was.
