Hi there,
I've been searching forums and web pages for days now to find a guide to rooting the HTC Desire C. There is no sub-forum for this phone and I've only been able to find about 4 small threads on this device so I'm posting here. I have some dev knowledge but, nothing to do with mobile devices so excuse my ignorance if you can.
I've tried superOneClick and z4root to no avail. Didn't think it would be this tricky to find a way to root the phone. If any one can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful or if they can, maybe you know a decent guide to explaining how root access is obtained so I can try it myself(if possible).
Thanks for any information.
On MoDaCo, there seems to be a method to root the Desire C. See http://www.modaco.com/topic/355158-r1-superboot-how-to-root-the-htc-desire-c/
Thanks a lot. That guide did the job.

Im a completed noob!!! I've registered with HTC dev to get the unlock code for my desire c but cant get my cmd to understand what I'm trying to do! I'm using my laptop which runs windows 7. Each time I type the comand 'Android>...' & press enter I just get the message 'don't recognise Android as an internal or external drive' ... please please please help!! ... again I must stress I'm a very very noob who don't know much so any help is very welcome... ta
@rob# I have gone through this process, so I know it works! When you are in the command prompt window you must change directory to where you have saved the files so for example if you saved them in a directory 'c:\android' and your command prompt is 'c:\username\whatever' then your command should be 'cd \android' then the instructions should work.....
:fingers-crossed:Thanks bobmcann, brilliant advice & that bit worked fine... but then I did something else wrong!!! I completed all the unlock bit via the cmd screen, got my e-mail message from htc to tell me what to do next & then my power failed on my pc! I've since tried to redo everything the HTC dev page says but when I try to generate another unlock code everything just hangs & nothing happens for about 15 mins, then I get bored, disconnect everything & turn off my pc/phone... what am I doing wrong now!!?!! is there an easy way to fix this or have I screwed everything up? Please help me (again! - I will get better at this I promise) - thanks
@rob# you removed the device while trying to install a root or unlocking ur bootloader, tbh am supprized it isnt fully bricked, try reinstalling everything from the start
The rooting method works, but is there any unroot procedure?
After having the desire successfully connected and starting the bat-file I always get the following error message: "booting....failed <remote: not allowed>". What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
I have problems with Android 1.0 driver. It doesnt works so I cant root the phone. How can I solved this problem? Where I can find driver? Thanks for replys.
I used the guide posted on modaco and it worked fine for me. Posting some screenshots or a more detailed explanation of what you're typing and what you're seeing would allow people to help figure out why you're having issues.

You have to follow the instructions very closely on the HTCdev website -- make sure you have all the software they ask for including:
Android SDK Tools
HTC Sync Manager
Java Runtime
All three of these are at the upper right corner of the first page of instructions. Once you've downloaded the HTC Sync Manager, an OS reboot should then fix it. When you connect your phone the driver should self-install.

Hi guys, I am having an issue i cant seem to resolve on my razr i. apologies if this has already been covered in another thread (or 10, which is usually the way with these things because nobody reads the other threads) I have been through a load of other threads but cannot seem to resolve my issue so i started my own.
Right, I have switched from iphone to razr and am not stupid when it comes to jailbreaking etc so thought rooting the razr wouldnt be a problem. when trying to root it it failed and i am stuck at the fastboot menu, however, everything on the menu is disabled so i cant use it. i get the usual message:
fastboot reason: flash failure
fastboot max download size: 100mb
usb connected
if i try to use anything on the menu i get the following message:
fastboot menu disabled.
my phone is not unlocked and not rooted. i have barely done anything to it other than install a couple of free apps. i am unable to progress past this screen. the phone is GB and is on 4.0.4
any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. again, apologies if this has already been covered, none of the solutions i found were able to resolve my issue. as i said, i had no problems jailbreaking my old iphone, i am a bit of a n00b when it comes to droids...
AW: [Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu
Are you able to run fastboot commands ? Cause in that case you might be able To unlock bootloader and reflash the software .

I am not able to do anything. if i scroll to any of the options on the menu as soon as i hit the volume up key it just returns a message advising the fastboot menu is disabled.
**edit
ah commands not menu options. not sure how i go about doing that. i am 100% new to droid...

Had the same problem, I used the recommendation in this thread, 5th post and it worked, but afterwards need to re-download apps from PlayStore:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36612151
Follow the instructions exactly - you need the drivers and RSD lite on Windows PC, then connect the phone via usb cable that came with it; and you'll need a full unzip program (cost) so you can move the unzipped files into RSD lite. Get the right flash file though - there's a list in the linked post if you don't want GB retail which I used. Important: this only works for ICS 4.0.4 and don't try to downgrade to an earlier version than what's currently on your phone e.g. v.39 to v.31, for example.
Good luck.
AW: [Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu
If the solution from mervluk does not work (It didn't work for me either) , you should try if you are able to use the fast boot commands .
To do that simply connect your phone to the PC. Then download fast boot , if you do not already have that. It is in the .zip from the RAZR I root thread.
The go to the downloaded folder. There hold shift and perform a right mouse click. Then choose" start a command prompt here "or something similar (don't know how the option is called in English).
Then type in
fastboot reboot
When the phone reboots you might be able to unlock your phone and flash the software.
BUT BE AWARE! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR WARRANTY!!
So you better try the other solution first. This should be your last option.
If you don't know how to unlock the bootloader look in the RAZR I forum or pn me .

Glad about that. This phone can be a bit of a so-and-so. ics is being updated ota to Jelly Bean 4.1.2, which I've avoided so far to keep fm (although not activated on the supplied software). I did succeed with unlocking the bootloader (loose warranty - important) following the whole complicated procedure on Moto's website - but couldn't myself use the shortcuts on here. (Then had to set up again and re-download everything from the PlayStore). It required the Moto-supplied key. I then rooted, though I think the JB ota download unroots again? You can't use RSD lite with JB.
With JB the procedures are different, and a modified JB European (not for use with GB) firmware is now available on another thread which is impressing some posters. But I think just be a bit cautious as there does not appear to be any fix for the "service code corrupt" bootloader error yet. Looks like the options are very restricted whilst no-one understand the interaction between Google Android and the intel atom chipset.
I have a network unlock key from one of the commercial suppliers (cellunlocker.net), but haven't needed to try and use it yet!
So I have just moved from an iPhone 4 to an Xperia Z and I love it!
I am new to all this rooting and flashing business, so go easy on me! I am quite tech-savvy so I doubt I will have much problem with any of this, but hey, we all get stumped sometimes.
Now my question is, how does one go about unlocking an Xperia Z on a Mac? I want to know this as I was getting an error when trying with windows that read "<waiting for device>". I tried setting the fastboot.exe to run as admin as well as cmd, but neither solved the problem. After messing around with no success, I decided I would see if I could do it on Mac.
Thus far, I have my Xperia Z rooted (via windows), and have received my unlock key from sony (used above ^ with no success). I have downloaded the android SDK on both windows and mac, downloaded the adb and fastboot binaries for mac, fastboot driver for windows, and have followed various methods all with no success.
What do I need to do, to unlock the bootloader on Mac? Would it be a similar process to this?
Or what are some things I could try to get it working on windows?
Thanks
Andy
Bump..
Im having the exact same problem, I have tried using the generic wlan0 profile and the suggested netd option with combinations of the reset driver 1 and 0. like the OP i have gotten no log errors but it still isnt broadcasting.

If you're stuggling to find the ADB drivers for your phone, I'm not sure that you should be trying to root your phone, no offence.
Rooting it will break the camera completely. There is a DRM fix, which does leave all the functions of the camera working. But I wouldn't go down that route personally. The 'fix' was actually stolen from another developer and released without permission. The Dev who's running the drm fix thread didn't build the fix and has no idea how it works. Read for yourself, support is very patchy, it's a difficult thing to get right. You need to apply the right patches in the right sequence on top of a 8.49 CE firmware build, or it wont work.
It's a fix not a workaround, you destroy your TA keys buy unlocking your phone and you will never get them back.
Also you're dependent on the Dev (sToRm//) compiling a new fix to go with any new firmware released.
You could never update again without his help, and right now, he's got the hump.

Thanks you for you help, i think you are right but it's very difficult to tell me i don't "root" my phone because every smartphone i have in my life was root. I buy a Sony phone for the first time and maybe the last because it's what i like with Android, Root, change ROM, again and again. Maybe Modpunk release a stable LineageOS ?
I buy this phone because it is small, very small, snap 835, sd card, speakers on the front and fingerprint on the right but i hope Oneplus make a little phone like this a day
I feel like I'm in prison

I know, every phone I've ever owned I rooted, it's almost a habit, but with this bootloader Sony is giving us the finger. The main reasons I wanted to root were usually to get a better battery and to mod the framework to make it look better, but the battery with this phone is already good, it doesn't need any help.
If you want to mod the looks then it's possible to do that too.
I don't want to be negative and put you off trying to do amazing things with your phone, but I thought you should know the details before you start.
Edit: yes, I think LineageOS is very close now, perhaps when that is working I might move to that.

I ran into a similar issue when trying to use Emma. It only runs on Windows, so I had to go through this as well.
First, download and install Android Studio for your OS:
developer . android .com/studio/ index. html
(Note: Android Studio is not required, just the SDK. But Android Studio will install the SDK for you in a standard location. This might make things easier for you.)
Once this is done, launch it to install the SDK. You can select all defaults.
Once the SDK is installed, click Configure in the bottom-right of Android Studio and select SDK Manager. On the first screen, select the SDK Tools tab in the middle. Here you will want to select Google USB Driver and click Apply. This should install the driver.
Then, go back to the device in the device manager and right-click the device and select Update Driver.
After that, I followed the steps here:
stackoverflow . com /questions/14559734/ install-adb-interface-driver-for-android
to get the driver installed. This was because I kept getting an error that the system could not find the Android ADB Interface.
For the record, the Google USB Driver was installed on a Windows 10 box in the following location:
%localappdata%\Android\Sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
Hope this helps you out..

What do you mean by "these drivers do not contain the correct drivers"? Did they fail to install for you?
I just spun up a new Windows 7 VM to test this out again, and it worked for me.
What steps are you taking exactly?
Did you receive any errors when you tried to install the driver this way?
How is your device appearing in the device manager?

The device in fastboot will appear in the device manager as Android as the first stick.
Drivers dowload from Sony developed or Android SDK reports not found driver.
Drivers from Sony or Google they work in USB debugging but not driver in fastboot, still reports Android without drivers.

Sometimes the drivers don't install properly in Windows 10, although it doesn't tell you they failed to install (helpful). You need to start Windows in safe mode and look for 'Disable driver signing'
Also, if you've used your computer for another device, then it's likely those drivers are still in it kicking about and probably getting in the way. You might have better luck going to another computer that has never been used for ADB and starting fresh.

Want to unlock the bootloader of my phone via Sony website... step 1 and 2 are no problem and I have my unlock code. Unfortunately I can't get my phone into FASTBOOT mode. Connected cable to laptop, hold volume button up and connected phone to cable but nothing happens. Is there anyone that can help me out?

Did you use the standalone SDK, or did you use Android Studio?
If you used Android Studio, what do you see in: %localappdata%\Android\Sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\
If you did not use Android Studio, would you be willing to try it? I only suggest it since it installs everything to specific locations, so perhaps removing an additional variable could be useful.
Otherwise, Didgesteve's suggestion seems like a good next step.
I have the exact same problem. Sony driver and Google driver both don't work. Driver sign in Windows 10 is disabled. How can I don now?
Edit: After followed the steps showed in this video the drivers are successfully installed but when unlocking the bootloader it says "command not allowed". Do I have to unlock it if I want to root my phone?

Yes, unlocking your phone is the first part of rooting your phone. Unlocking is a one way process, you can't ever undo it and it will break your camera, completely. Be aware of that before you continue, the threads are full of people crying about broken phones that can't be re-locked.
It might be your phone is not allowed to be unlocked. Some phone providers in the UK sell phones that cannot be unlocked, mostly because they don't want the headache of people claiming unlocked phones be repaired.
Type *#*#7378423#*#* into your phone dialer to access the service menu.
Then look under Service info/configuration.
Under Rooting Status it should say Bootlock unlock allowed - yes.
If it says no then forget it.
Edit: you also need to allow OEM unlocking in the developer options

Yes, I forgot to allow OEM unlock in my phone settings.
I gave up unlocking my phone anyway, compare to years ago, stock rom nowadays isn't that unacceptable after all.
Hi - after months I finally solved the fast boot issue by using the above mentioned video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=105&v=nQjg6ePnGAc
Basically - the key is that there are 2 steps:
1. Connect phone in usb debugging mode - then install sony adb driver using device manager and "have disk"
2. Boot into fastboot - and again install sony adb driver using device manager and "have disk"
Result = fastboot now working!
today I root my XZ1C
I have lots of problems with fastboot and i have other solution
for ADB i use driver from Sony ( installed by device manager )
but for fastboot
I use "Android ADB Interface" installed with Android Studio (you can choose it device manager --> update driver --> manual install --> installed on pc --> google or on my PC it was Samsung and there was google --> Android ADB Interface )
thats was only think that work for my device
I lost today 3/4h for this one think
maybe it will help someone to safe this time
Enjoy !
