I know sometimes there are variants of phones and ROMs for one variant can work on others, but I'm not sure if this is really a totally different phone. I've pretty much settled on the Z3C being the phone I want, but the root and ROM support seems to be pretty light compared to a lot of other phones, and if it turns out I don't like the stock ROM that can end up being a big deal.
Roms for Z3 will not work here unless they have been ported by someone

damn.
I really need to learn how to do some ROM dev. I can't find a good guide anywhere on how to get started.

I haven't seen much on roms lately. All the one's out here aren't stable either. We only have a couple fully working roms and none of them are being update. If I get a new phone any suggestions on what it should be to take advantage of the most fully functional roms?

I found Liberty ROM to be quite stable, and while I don't want to jinx it, I've been running Maverick 4.0 for a day or so and it seems great!
If the bootloader ever gets unlocked, it will open up more kernel dev options (for the genius' out there!) which could open up more/better ROM possibilities for us (fingers crossed).
I don't think I'll be upgrading to another phone until a new physical keyboard model comes out. And hopefully it's quad-core with at least a gig of RAM. (512mb on my XT860 has been killing me) ;D
Unfortunately I dont think the kernel will ever be unlocked on our phones... that's Motorola for you.

But now it's Google...we may get lucky

Ever since they switched to the nightlies and stopped posting new beta's on here It slowed down, IMO.
I'm happy with Mavrom 4.0 I guess, but would've loved to see hashcode etc. focussing on getting video on ICS, rather than adding features etc. Other ROM makers could've tried that. Who cares about advanced settings when you can't even record a video?
Google is going to probably sell Motorola hardware section to Huawei and keep the core just as legal requirements. Also, they said they are not going to interfere with Motorola decisions on their products. Google only bought Motorola for their parents, nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly ... but I don't want this to be a Motorola bash... even tho its easy to do... lol... so for now I would like to see a list of roms that are fully functional. I'm on liberty and I keep going back to that just because everything works... what other roms are in this category. And I agree that a extra features aren't important till a fully or close to fully completely working roms is in place. What's the point of all the bells and whistles if you can't even use the basic functions of a phone.. don't get me wrong now. I love trying new roms but it becomes a downer when you get one that has cool extras but you end up going back to a working rom for taking video or watching Netflix .... even if your on safestrap to go back to that functional rom. And the other question is if I change phones what would be a good phone to go to just for rom purposes ...

The problem iswith the hardware codes and drivers. Every phone probably has this problem with ics. They add more features cause this is almost impossible. The attic has a really good developer support. I would definitely go back yo it if I could but I had nothing but problems with mine. Anyone know how to make a rom? I wanna get into it.

I assume you mean Atrix instead of attic?
The real issue to all of the problems is the bootloader. When you can customize the kernel to fit your rom you pretty much take care of any problems. Not to say there aren't roms with custom kernels that don't have issues .... there are but thats due to other things. Programming or incompatibly issues. All of our roms are franken roms held together by bungee cords and duct tape. The devs do a great job with what they have at hand so when time comes for them to build a rom on a phone with a unlocked bootloader, I don't blame them.. much more freedom and the ability to create awesome roms the way they want. All the stable roms we have are just built around the original with some cleaning up and a splash of color... I wonder what it feels like to know when you pick a rom no matter what it is and you know its going to work and the only reason you don't stick with it is because you don't like the way it looks or it doesn't have a extra you want... how sweet.

So im getting the Note in the UK as an upgrade from my slowly degrading HD2 which was a brilliant phone, but i took out the contract after looking at general reviews and it looks like the phone for me, but what kind of mods are there for it? not really roms per say but things i can add to it? and how have other people found the phone to live with? cheers Ray
Its a huge phone definitely going to take a little getting used to coming from the HD2 (which may I add is one of my favourite phones of all time). There are lots of custom roms available ranging from Samsung stock style to aosp/aokp, as well as themes, ported Galaxy S3 mods/features etc. I run a stock style rom and love it, its fast and sturdy with a beautiful HD screen, its hard not to be impressed even after having it a month already!

Hd2...The true legendary smartphone all the time....please keep it even you upgrade to note like me. Another few months hd2 flasher will have the chance to taste window 8....
Anyway, note is the great option if you looking for bigger screen. But at the moment the development for note temporary slowing down because of the brick bug occured after ics released. But still hv few custom rom and cm9 available and consistently keep update weekly.

Hello everyone,
I'm new here,
Starting this thread so that beginners and new users (like me) can know about what people have done with their monsters and what they are capable of!
Tell me about your favorite top 10 apps and must haves!
Reason for choosing Droid 3?
I'd also like to know if some serious droidians can provide links on how to achieve what they have!
Would also like if they can tell users like me what should be done with their Droid 3 if they just took it out of the box!
I have a Motorola Droid 3 Verizon [XT862 (its obvious but still)],
5.6.890.xt862.verizon.en.us (I think its stock rom, but I could be wrong)
Using it in India.
And thats all I know about it.
Its not even rooted.
My reason for choosing Droid 3:
I wanted something solid, which felt like a monster in my hand, not like the new phones being thin and light as a paper, I needed something heavy! The large screen, 8 mp cam, 16+16 Gb memory are just add-ons to the list,
the main reason being the 5 row physical keyboard. I did not find any other phone with k/b with such screen and cam. And Motorola is well known for being modded and customized!
Share anything and everything you can, it is always helpful to someone!
Tell us about different processes of flashing, about roms, latest updates and so on.
Very excited to hear from y'all!
Hope. to get some really interesting and helpful posts!
Don't forget to have fun while doing this and help as many people as you can
Thanks a lot.
Really?
Really guys,
no one?
I was hoping to get some really good feedback!
Kinda old phone! I got it because i wanted the original but went with the Droid Incredible for processor. So I saw the droid 3 and it looked just as good.
Phone is end of life. These discussions have been had many times before. People are waiting to upgrade to a better phone.

Droid Incredible?
Isn't it a cdma phone? With 1Ghz processor?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, I see.
But buddy, this discussion is not only about the features of the phone but more about what can one do or should do if they just got it.
This phone is not available at the place I'm using it. Specs are incredible, except for the software update.
I do not see a single phone with a keyboard like this with such a screen over here.
Even though it is an old phone, I got it regardless of its lousy software update.
And therefore I wanted to know, what people are doing with their droid3 regarding software?
I wanted to know which rom are they using and what apps are must haves!
Thats all.
Thank you all for reading.
Rom toolbox, safestrap3, thats all i recommend for must have apps.
Run stock for a while, and then put on safestrap and see what roms you like.
You can also use the ubuntu install app in the market if you want a linux distribution, worked ok on my droid3.
If you like at&t or tmobile, use the radio hack to skip verizon.

you shouldn't loose unlock but if the rom wasn't dev'd for your specific device..ie..xt862,xt860 ect you might have to flash the proper radio and build prop
Please help me decide between 2 ROMS
I canĀ“t decide between iHackers(minimal) and RomAur.
What i want is clean ROM with good battery life.
Can users of there ROMs write here pros and cons.
Thank you so much
No one can do that, its like asking for the best flavour pizza, it is an individual choice.
try them both for a week and see which one YOU like best
Ya i know but i would like to hear something from users....
Btw.....im quite suprised that Z1 has so small development.....its perfect phone

It's new on the market, give xda some time.
Sony phones have less ROMs than other OEM's phones. Stock ROMs here are very stable and less buggy than those of other manufacturers.
Plus, the camera issues with unlocked bootloaders aren't helping any.
Don't worry, with some time, we'll get good ROMs too. Just have a look at the Xperia Z forum.

I tried monxified and romaur.
Monxified is cleaner (maybe too clean lol) and I like the power menu so i stayed with that.
So I know we are not to say " this is the best rom.." and things like that.. So I hope this question is acceptable..
I came from the galaxy s4.. But did not look into roms before the switch. I was quite disappointed to discover the issues that cause so few roms to be developed currently.
The thing is, I use my phone at my work phone.. So I need a ROM stable enough to do so. I have been on Knoxraid for about 2 months.. With no major problems... But there are a few issues, and since it is no longer being developed I really want to move to a different ROM.
If I may ask, what are you guys using as a daily driver, and what are you finding extremely stable?

IMO, If you're needing your device for work? Stock; ESPECIALLY if you are using your device for work in a "mission critical" environment (No disrespect meant to the developers of custom Rom's at all).
For me what it's come down to now is being able to have root, and being able to do basic customization (Which is all supported by Wanam module for Xposed). I'm not a developer myself, so I can't even speculate what needs to be done to create a custom Rom, but this has been my experience
Depends on where you work. Where I work, I'm restricted from even connecting to their network since my device is rooted. Therefor I use Cisco IP 7945 XP
Moderator Comment: Rom that may have the features you seek is the one you've assayed against your own needs and chosen accordingly; thread closed.
And best advice has already been given...best stability is ALWAYS stock or stock based
