Back in September 2014, NVIDIA launched a lawsuit against Samsung Galaxy devices equipped with Qualcomm SoCs. NVIDIA stated that Samsung and Qualcomm violated its GPU unit vectors and 6 other GPU data processing utility patents. NVIDIA asked for a ban on all Galaxy devices starting from Galaxy S3 to Galaxy Note 4.
In December 2014, Samsung launched a countersuit with several of its utility patents on transistors and data occupational vectors. Samsung asked for a ban on all NVIDIA devices including SHIELD devices.
In April 2015, pretrial hearing concluded 6 patents in favor of NVIDIA and 1 patent in favor of Samsung.
There are several other companies such as HTC, Sony, LG, and Nokia that utilize Qualcomm SoC processors and GPU units, but NVIDIA targeted only Samsung (the biggest company out of all phone manufacturers). If the final ruling concludes in favor of NVIDIA, Samsung will be required to provide them with monetary damages (possibly as high as $4 billion) and removing its devices from all the stores in the US.

I think Apple paid NVIDIA to sue Samsung. Although NVIDIA is a tech giant, I don't think it has that much money to hire lawyers from top universities and the Supreme Court. And why now lol? Samsung used Qualcomm chips since Galaxy S3 which debuted in 2012. It took three years for NVIDIA to realize that Samsung was using their technology?

All current Galaxy S phones are pretty much the same in terms of hardware, give or take a front facing camera or led flash. So given that Samsung has just unveiled the Infuse 4G (labeled a Galaxy S phone), and has also announced it will still unveil new phones at WMC 2011 (including dual core phones), it sounds like Samsung intends on having different levels of Galaxy S phones this time around. I'm thinking the infuse is going to be considered their entry level Galaxy S phone, hence it's early introduction at CES 2011, and the upper end Galaxy S phones (dual-core) will be the ones to be announced at WMC 2011. Given how Samsung has come out with some seriously beautiful designs in other devices (Series 9 laptop, TV line up, heck even their appliances) I'm hoping for something really exciting at WMC 2011.
Samsung is rumoured to have a version called the 2K Galaxy S5 Prime up its sleeve. As the name suggests, it'll have a 2K screen, also known as QHD (as in "Quite High Definition", no, okay "quad HD"), packing 2560x1440 pixels rather than the current S5's 1920x1080.
Within Samsung's hallowed halls, the 2K Galaxy S5 Prime is said to be known by the codename 'KQ', with the model number SM-G900. A handset with that model number was recently spotted on a shipping database. It's reportedly being used for research and development purposes.
So why not launch the S5 with the better screen in the first place? That was the plan, according to SamMobile, but it was abandoned due to production issues. These are currently being ironed out, and the hi-res S5 should be with us this year.
Hopefully it is soon. It would be nice if they offered some type of trade in for all the people who might want to upgrade from the s5. I think moto did something similar with the X? They gave people the option to return theirs for a wood back one for 50 bucks or something.
Although it might not be worth it. Would need to have similar battery life or that would be a deal breaker.

2. The replaceable/removable battery.
3. A micro SD card slot for external storage of up to 128GB.
In addition to all of the other enhancements over the current S5.
I will have no respect for Samsung if this is true. They outright said to us that there will be no "premium" Galaxy S5. If that is true, it might not be an "S5" it might be part of another series.
These are the specs released on the news.

agreed...the VP of samsung said a prime is a no-go...
if he was lying just to increase sales of the s5 instead of having people hold out, screw samsung...ill never buy from that deceiving company again....and this is coming from someone who had a s2, s3, s4, note 10, note 8, original samsung tab 10, etc

Those were actually the initial rumoured specs for the generic S5... So whichever journalist dug those up should be fired for being incredibly slow.

Yeah they do that kind of thing all the time, release a nice phone with a few features of current technology missing, then a few months later they release one with the better tech so people upgrade. If there aren't free upgrades (which there won't be since it's not a fault) it's just a planned marketing strategy to make more money. yay!
I dont think they will release anything else to kill the S5 they have just released this year. They smart enough not to **** with those who has purchased the S5.

If this is true, the iPhone 6 will likely destroy Samsung in sales. First big iPhone display and an even faster/efficient chipset than the i7, which is already faster than the S801. This might be the first time since the S2 where the iPhone trumps Samsung.
I am not an iPhone fan, so do not find this potential scenario of revived dominance a good thing. I do like the iPad Air though, in spite of my Android affliction. That said, Kitkat's killing of sd card writes ofr third party apps is making Android more like iOS....

I think that if Samsung released the S5 Prime, then it would anger a LOT of people.
However, I'm not quite sure how you got the impression that Apple's Cyclone based A7 chip is faster than the i7. Quite simply put, it's not.

Even if the score were four times higher, it still wouldn't match up with the MOBILE version of the i7 Haswell.

I agree with you in terms of iPhone 6 sales outpacing that of the S5. Apple usually sells more, and has more loyal followers.

Someone should make one like the qi receivers for the Note 4. I contacted Looppay who sells the MST cards but they only replied back the galaxy s6 and Note 5 has it built in.

I was literally researching this topic an hour ago... Here are my findings:
Samsung acquired LoopPay back in February 2015. LoopPay had a few products aimed at iPhones to give it contactless payment using MST.
2. LoopPay has 2 different products according to their site; MST sleeve for the iPhone 5/5s/6/6Plus and a standalone "card" that is programmable.
There is no official news that Samsung will provide a bolt-on accessory for other Samsung devices. My theory/hope is that there will be some kind of accessory in the near future for S5 and Note 4 devices to help boost the adoption rate of Samsung Pay. The pessimistic side of me thinks that Samsung bought LoopPay exclusively to leverage the MST patents and block any MST tech from ending up in Apple's future devices - a smart move, but has no plans to create any accessories for older Samsung devices nor license out the patents on MST to 3rd party accessory makers like NFC and Qi wireless charging accessories.
Title: Galaxy S9 series and Galaxy Note 9 should update to One UI 3.x with Android 11.
On that terrible day, Samsung anounced the update plan for One UI 3, 4, and 5. Samsung Galaxy S10 series, S20 series, Note10 series, Note20 series, Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z series users leaped with joy, but Galaxy S9 series and Note9 users hung their head low, because the "2 Major Updates Only" curse was still on us. All Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note9 users are disappointed by Samsung for this reasonless decision, for not provided Android 11 for a fully capable flagship device.
Both Galaxy S9 and Note9 is equipped with Exynos 9810 or Snapdragon 845 chipset, which has 10-nm Octa-Core 4x2.7-2.8 GHz+4x1.7-1.8GHz. They have epic specs, which can only be challenged by Huawei Mate20 in 2018. It is not hard to provide a full 1TB hard disk of evidence to prove that the three 2018 flagships can easily run Android 11. For example, they are fully treble compliant, which means, they have enough specs to run latest Android as long as Project Treble is alive; and it has better specs than Galaxy A01 except the camera, as A01 has 12nm Quad-Core 4x1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.45 GHz Cortex A53 chipset, and Galaxy A01 is in the list of One UI 3.0 update, WHICH MEANS THAT ONE UI 3.X UPDATE PLAN IS BIASED. And a low specs camera is not even possible to be a visible obstacle in the path of Android 11 update. It is astonishing, for Samsung to say that biased words on Galaxy Unpacked. Why? Simply our phone got out the box with Oreo? No. I mean it is not our fault to launch Oreo with S9, S9+ and Note9. Especially for Galaxy Note9, it is Samsung's fault. Samsung can wait one week or two, and launch Note9 with Pure Android 9+GMS, and add One UI as soon as it is ready by OTA. It is no need to launch with Oreo and toture us when Android 11 is released. This terrible decision forces us to either stay on Android 10, which is nothing but the same OS as a crappy 28nm Nokia C3, or go to custom roms which voids Knox and warranty, requires quite an amount of computer knowledge and is very easy to brick your device with one click.
We only ask Samsung to push One UI 3.x, AT LEAST ONE UI 3.0 CORE, based on Android 11 to Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note9, which has the certain right to update to Android 11. We are all going to sign this petition, not only the carriers of a Galaxy S9/Note9/S9+, but also anyone, who has their rage ignited due to the biased Samsung update policy. There is absolutely a piece of cake, as S9, S9+ And Note9 does not have custom resolution for both screen and camera, and Android 10 to Android 11 is not an enormous update, not like Windows XP update to 10. One man with a spare hour or two after work can do this in three months if enough knowledge. We strongly demand Galaxy S9 series And Note9 to update to Android 11, globally and stably.

Feels like we need to have this same conversation once every smartphone generation. Recap:
Breathing life into old electronics is not good business. Samsung is a business, they're in it for the money. Introducing new features for old phones will not sell new hardware; if anything, it will cause Samsung to sell less new hardware. Less sales means less revenue. That's why it's bad for business.
Developing software for additional platforms consumes more resources; resources which could be used for advancing development of newer hardware, and better software for said newer hardware. Again, why waste resources into something that will cause you to sell fewer next-gen phones?
Let me reiterate. Samsung is a business. They will not make poor business decisions to benefit users who hang on to old hardware instead of buying new hardware. End of story.

Tech companies love to tout how their products are more friendly to the environment, but it often amounts to little more than marketing. For example, while Apple uses smaller boxes and more recycled materials in its newer products, the company has also fought against right-to-repair legislation that could extend the life of older iPhones and Mac computers and keep them out of landfills. Samsung is now taking another small step towards sustainability, with the promise to sell replacement parts for repair to anyone.
Repair shops can already purchase replacement components for Samsung’s phones and tablets, but starting “this summer,” Samsung says anyone will be able to purchase the parts for self-repairs. The program will start with the Galaxy S20 and S21 lineup, as well as the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. Samsung will sell display assemblies with integrated batteries, back glass panels, and charging ports, and you’ll be able to return used parts to Samsung to recycle.
The company said in a press release, “Samsung consumers will get access to genuine device parts, repair tools, and intuitive, visual, step-by-step repair guides.” Samsung is partnering with iFixit to create the repair guides, which seems to be a growing trend with electronics manufacturers — Valve recently worked with iFixit to sell parts and create repair guides for the Steam Deck console.
Samsung says it plans to extend parts availability to more devices. The new Galaxy S22 series is notably missing from the current list, and the inclusion of only one Galaxy Tab model is a bit strange. Still, assuming Samsung follows through with its plans (and the replacement parts aren’t overpriced), it’s a great move to keep functioning phones and tablets out of landfills.
iFixit already has repair guides available for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Plus, and the rest of the guides will be available “in the coming weeks.”
