i'm currently using a galaxy s5 (g900a) with a visix custom rom, loaded via safestrap and rooted.
i want to remove all that so i am able to upgrade to 5.0.1, how would i go along doing that. I've seen some posts but they are confusing and don't cover the removal of safestrap.
any help is very appreciated.
Thanks In Advance.

if you're running the rooted stock dj11, then you have to unroot, apply the update, and then use superoneclick to re-root the new stock ec02 rom. alternately, you can hit the dev section, and snag a rooted ec02, which is flashable via heimdall. but your updates won't ever work with root. so you always have to unroot, and then apply the update, and then reroot.
also, if you used z4root to root, trust me when i say, it won't work for ec02. you have to use superoneclick, and you have to make sure you have the right drivers installed on the computer, or it stalls out.
I've tryed to unroot with superoneclick and it says its not rooted but never works. Is there a step iam missing?

New Note owner here, but definitely not new to Android or Samsung devices, for that matter. I immediately updated to 2.3.6 (see attached) as soon as I got the device, but now realize I would like to root the device, get the note-specific (custom) version of CWM, etc.
I really am not interested in a custom rom, just want root. Can I flash a pre-rooted rom by loading from the MicroSD card?
I did look around, but I am finding conflicting info on the best root method after a 2.3.6 update which wasn't rooted previously and prior to. I see some posts about downgrading but is that safe?
Thanks, just looking for some solid advice.

I just got my note today as well (LOVE IT!!!) I also updated immediately and the root+CWM method here worked perfectly.
Thank you!
That worked, thanks for steering me in the right direction. Much appreciated!

Were you already on stock KL7?
I tried dl'ing the KL7 package and running "not rooted yet", but it blocks the image write and just reboots.....
Any ideas?
Mark,
I think it is possible I have a different build. Mine shows KK9.
But, to answer your question, my unit was a German unit purchased from Amazon. It came out of the box with 2.3.5 and immediately wanted an update to 2.3.6 when I set it up. I went ahead and did the update.
Then, I realized I wanted to root. I followed the link from the first response in this thread and had no issues at all. The ZergRush exploit went off without a hitch on 2.3.6 - and after that I did install the slightly modified kernel to get the customized CWM for this Note, etc.
I hope that helps, let me know if you need further info.

Hi I think when it came from germany you are able to do one more update about OTA, because we are currently using KL7 it came after the KK9 update.
Just try to do the update OTA
But...
You appear to be correct on the update, I just did check and it looks like a 71MB firmware update is available.
But, should I do this OTA from KK9 to KL7? Will I lose root and CWM?
I hav answerwd u, sm other place b4 five min
Yes u will lose. I explined u how to update there
Yes, indeed you did. Thank you. I didn't intend for a cross-post, I just wanted to leave that here as well so it might help others. I agree it makes much more sense to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the full ROM, and that is what I am going to try.

Forgive me I am a noob. I recently rooted my AT&T S5 cause was waiting for the 5.0 update to come out. I decided to go back to stock and upgrade and removed the root all except the bootloader still appears with custom when starting phone and is only trace of root is all can seem to find but is keeping me from installing new 5.0 as it gets to 28% and restarts says unable to install instillation interrupted. How can I replace bootloader with stock one and where may I find one? Any and all help appreciated. I am running 4.4.4 android and is a SM-G900 AT&T S5 with kernel G900AUCU2AOA1.

Install Samsung Kies on your PC/MAC, and try flashing a new firmware with Kies. Follow the on screen instructions
I have tried that and tell me that my software is up to date have also tried a few different stock roms which were supposed to work with my phone with Odin and they all fail.
Flash the file in this thread.

Thank you very much for the help and sorry has taken so long to get back and let you know it worked great. Thank you so much
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T OA1 (G900A) and I cannot get the phone to take a custom rom flash. First I downgrade to NCE using ODIN 3.09, check install from unknown sources, then I install towelroot and successfully root the phone. Install SuperSU and update the binary, reboot, install Busybox. Shut down and go back into download mode and use ODIN to flash the OA1 kernel. I then install either flashfire or SafeStrap and then instruct them to wipe the phone other than internal memory and flash the rom zip. I have tried several roms and everytime I get back to the same thing... the default recovery screen with a dead android.
Any suggestions or ideas what I am doing wrong?

After downgrading to nce and rooting there is no need to update the kernel back to OA1 as all the kitkat roms are based off the nce build. Our you can root then upgrade to lollipop using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3076803 as the devs for the s5 roms have moved to 5.0.

I have tried to do the flash several times without going back to the OA1 kernel too, but I thought that may have been the issue. I figured out quickly it wasn't.
One thing I may have been missing is that I am trying to flash lollipop roms. Is that my problem? Do I need to be flashing a KitKat rom unless I flash the rom to linked to in your post? How do I get a lollipop rom flashed if that's the issue?

You can't flash lollipop roms unless your already on lollipop. You'll have to stick with kitkat roms unless you upgrade using the method in the link that i posted. Once you upgrade to lollipop using that method you'll be able to flash lollipop roms.

Good deal. Which one did you go with. I've ran alliance, twi5ted, and TMS 2.0. I personally like TMS best. Seems like it runs smother for me.

I went with TMS 2.0, but I was hoping to get a Cyanogenmod based rom installed. I have tried several times to install the Fusion rom using FlashFire, but each time I get an unmount failed notice and have to go back to NCE.
What do you like about TMS?

First off you can't flash cyanogenmod cause of the locked bootloader. We have to stick with TW base roms. I like the stability about TMS2.0 plus the fact that the dev is still working on it. Most all the other devs have went to other phones. TalkingMonkeys is a great dev and is constantly working on mods and features.
What is the easiest route to do this? I have been gone from xda and phone stuff awhile but my mom has the note 3 and I need to update it, it is simply rooted, but the very first firmware. I was thinking maybe the Samsung folks at bestbuy would kindly update it then I could root it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
