how do you restore app data - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I've had root so long I have no idea how to function. I have a rooted m8.
I'm trying to get some app data restored on this new s6 edge. I've tried google to restore but no app data is coming in. Tried helium but doesn't seem to work on s6 i never get a green check on the device side.
Titanium needs root...
many other backup apps i've looked at require root for app data. I'm not sure why as app data should be on /data and accessible. so any thoughts? what am i missing in this non-root world?

Well i got helium working on the s6 edge. had to do manually, no clue why.
the restore i made on the m8 to google drive restored fine after.
Here are the commands i ran to get it to "register" on the s6 edge manually: (i'm really putting this here so i know how to do it again)
first update adb and get adb shell working to the s6 edge. let's call that a pre-req.
Code:
adb shell pm path com.koushikdutta.backup
that will output stuff, the thing i cared about was package name and in my case it was:
Code:
package:/data/app/com.koushikdutta.backup-1/base.apk
then i ran adb shell to get a prompt and ran
Code:
CLASSPATH=/data/app/com.koushikdutta.backup-1/base.apk app_process /system/bin com.koushikdutta.shellproxy.ShellRunner2 [email protected] &
then the app finally said it wasn't waiting for desktop and let me into it to do the restore.
Now i know why after a reboot he says you have to do this again, cause its literally just running this in the app_process in the background

[INFO] Galaxy S4 Active Q&A - Root, Recovery

Just to clear up a lot of questions, and as AT&T is the only carrier i know of at the moment with the S4 Active, figure i post this up. Please keep this thread updated for S4 Active users.
As of right now, root has been achieved on the S4 Active.
i9505 ROMs (international based) work on i337 (US AT&T)/i337m (Canadian) versions, but DO NOT WORK on i9295 (S4 Active), i537 (AT&T version of Active) or i9500 (S4 Exynos Octa versions).
Cant Wait. This is my first android and all i need to do now is teather this thing.
i too just ordered this guy.... couldn't resist at $99. A welcome add to the collection, now just need a forum so we can get organized and root
I want one of these, but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger until I can get Cyanogen on it.
Sure, I could buy a regular S4 now, but with my lifestyle a certain degree of water and dust resistance is a simple necessity. All that and I'll still buy a good case for it, bulky or not.
Anyone with this phone had headphone volume issues? I've tried a few fixes and can't get the sound I used to get from my i777.

mssinny99, may be you already had this, but I received a popup about "Volume Levels Damaging Hearing" after repeatedly trying to turn up the volume. I think I hit the up key 4 times (similar to developer options). After I accepted the warning, the volume sky rocketed.
Also, looking forward to a root solution!!

I'm not. Perhaps that firmware would be useful to a Dev?
Sent From My Galaxy S4 Active using a Tapatalk 4
it probably would. i hope devs are working on this; if there is any possibility to flash ROMs im giving the GS4 away and getting the Active.
I know this sounds bad, but the S4 Active is the first phone I haven't felt the need to root! I disabled/uninstalled all the bloat and useless apps, I have the 5GB w/tethering plan, I can install a custom launcher and theme, really the only thing missing for me is being able to backup and restore apps - but since I can't install custom ROM's that's not an issue.

If it wasn't for the awesome monthly view calendar widget I would try another launcher. I just don't like losing it although I hate the touch wiz icons.

Samsung has released the kernel for the Active.
Does this make it much easier to root and stuff?
If so i think I'll jump on the band wagon while the deal is alive and get the Active and just wait it out.

I am in the same boat here.. Just got the S4 Active and so far the only thing I need root for is for backing up apps AND disable certain bloat, like the annoying boot sound.
For backup, have you considered Helium? It does NOT need root BUT the restore and backup can only be done while your phone is connected to a PC/MAC. It's free and works well..

Me too, I have always rooted and put ROM's on my phones, but this is the first one I don't really feel the need to do it. I kinda like all the TW features. Also, correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't used it, but doesn't Kies backup your phone and Apps?

Just to clarify: you don't need to connect to PC to do the backup, just after every reboot of the phone. After that it works like TB.

I had it done on my M8. They have to send you a link to the app, and you have to install it, they can't just do it without your permission.
The app will also block any access to keyboard (when they used it, I had to type everything and it specifically states that all access to the screen is currently blocked when typing anything), it basically just lets them use the device a bit, and check some settings to make sure everything is proper.
Just uninstall the app after, and done.

If it was new device, I don't see how they would do that unless they were going to use ATT Locker (which I hate). If to external, then it's just a setting in the phone that'll move everything to the external.
Still, she would have to ask for your permission, which she did. I wouldn't worry about it, they can't get that data anyway.

I called att once when I had my s4. However I had that phone so locked down even they couldn't get a connection established. When they would try to connect they would get a rejection message and my phone would force close the app. They use this to trouble shoot our phones when we call support. They ask you to accept a text link which grants them control of your phone. What you see they see. I do not like this because they can see notifications like text messages in the status bar. You will also be asked to install an apk. I don't like this idea because I have private information on my phone. But someone who is not very literate with phones may need this type of support to fix their phone malfunctions.

Sprint DM Service?

In my list of running apps is an app called Sprint DM Service. It has permissions accessing virtually everything on the phone, in or out. Does anyone know what this is? I've searched online, and can't find anything. Btw, this is a Nexus 6 through AT&T, so I kinda figured it has nothing to do with Sprint. Any info would be appreciated.

Removing SprintDM
I'm on AT&T Nexus 6 and was successful in removing ATT startup splash screen, logo, and rigntones... therefore I would like to exterminate all traces of Sprint from my NEXUS PHONE!
Anyone have success with rooting & removing this completely unnecessary bloat? (Sprint worked just fine on Nexus 5 phones without SprintDM).
What directory would I need to delete when rooted?

Freeze them first to see if there are secondary consequences or breakage. Going nuclear deleting directories you don't understand is how you end up with a firmware won't boot.
We don't yet know how far the spare carrier libs are baked into the firmware.

True, which is why I was asking if anyone else has already found this directory and deleted it successfully. From what we know, all carrier bloat was added onto a separate partition as to not affect Google OTA updates. Wondering if the same is true of Sprint's BS...

Not yet. I have a pending query still in another thread: I'm on AOCE right now, and that tether patch will not work on anything but AOE2. It isn't clear if I can ODIN the AOE2 ROM over the top of my rooted AOCE (thereby nuking all my everything... ugh*) and then re-root, or if I have to ODIN all the way back to stock and start over (again, ugh*).
*My inertia level is pretty high, exceeded only by the level of activity I put into getting a new device to a solid steady-state and then I leave it alone for a Long Long Time(tm). Case in point: my S3 running rooted 4.1.2 died 2 nights ago, or I'd still be using that (laugh if you want, but it was super stable)... I was really only a week or so away from either pulling the trigger on a G920i unlocked/int'l version or going w/ the AT&T one and rooting it. Once folks confirmed PingPong Root worked, the decision was made easier, and then my phone dying on its own clinched it.
Worst-case, I guess I can schedule some offline time to go all the way back, but I really really really really don't want to. My phone generates employment/income, so when its offline, I'm losing money....

Did you try Adblock Fast that is build into Samsung 4.0? Download from App store and then manually setup using instructions.
I'm using it on my S7 with zero issues and no ads. Of course, limited to Samsung browser.
I'm using adguard which sets up personal VPN on phone to block ads. Seems to work for all apps but does hit battery life a bit. Worth it for me.

Bootloaders are locked. Flash secured and all. All us carriers, not the exynos, but all us snapdragons, including tmobile. We are on twitter and got a response from John Legere who claims to be working on a potential solution to at least getting tmobiles unlocked. Historically we have always been fine, but for some reason we aren't now. Doesn't make sense for the exynos to unlocked and SD to be locked imo

I'm sure something will come up eventually. Us folks on ATT are used to being screwed with the locked bootloaders. Think it might be new for T-Mobile users though. It might take a little longer, but ATT Samsung devices typically get root after some point.
I've had it since launch, my Nexus 6 basically died. I miss the debloating root allows, like how I'm forced to have the Directv app when I don't have any interest in having Directv. I do like it though it's a nice phone. If we can get root to remove the bloatware I'm for that otherwise I'll live with it for a year until something better drops.

VPNs like Adguard don't "eat" battery. What your seeing is that the system attributes all battery used by apps that access the internet to the VPN.

Seems like Pre-Lollipop builds were always hacked for root. Also, at least on my S5 G900A, Pre-rooted 5.0 was able to be flashed as long as the BL was kept OA1 (KK 4.4.4). But if you took the OTA to 5.0, no root ever! Also they totally locked it down with 5.1. FU ATT!!!!:silly:
But they sure did get into that S6 pretty fast, didn't they? Go figure.
I applied to this Samsung Mobile Insights program. Might get a free G935A or G930A if accepted into it. I do not know how I will live without root, but at least it has a sdcard. I do not have a good feeling about a battery that does not come out though...
